And now, amend your ways, and your doings, and hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God, and Jehovah doth repent concerning the evil that He hath spoken against you.

Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Didn’t he fear Yahweh, and entreat the favor of Yahweh, and Yahweh relented of the disaster which he had pronounced against them? We would commit great evil against our own souls that way!”

‘I have made the earth, the men, and the animals that are on the surface of the earth by my great power and by my outstretched arm. I give it to whom it seems right to me.

And it hath come to pass, the nation and the kingdom that do not serve him-Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon-and that which putteth not its neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, with sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, I lay a charge on that nation-an affirmation of Jehovah-till I consume them by his hand.

But as for you, don’t listen to your prophets, to your diviners, to your dreams, to your soothsayers, or to your sorcerers, who speak to you, saying, “You shall not serve the king of Babylon;”

Therefore hearken H8085 (QalImpf) not ye to your prophets, H5030 nor to your diviners, H7080 (QalActPtc) nor to your dreamers, H2472 nor to your enchanters, H6049 (PoelPtc) nor to your sorcerers, H3786 which speak H559 (QalActPtc) unto you, saying, H559 (QalInf) Ye shall not serve H5647 (QalImpf) the king H4428 of Babylon: H894

‘And ye, ye do not hearken unto your prophets, and unto your diviners, and unto your dreamers, and unto your observers of clouds, and unto your sorcerers who are speaking unto you, saying, Ye do not serve the king of Babylon,-

But the nation that brings their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serves him, that nation I will let remain in their own land,’ says Yahweh; ‘and they will till it and dwell in it.’ ” ’ ”

But the nations H1471 that bring H935 (HiphImpf) their neck H6677 under the yoke H5923 of the king H4428 of Babylon, H894 and serve H5647 (QalPerf) him, those will I let remain still H3240 (HiphPerf) in their own land, H127 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord; H3068 and they shall till H5647 (QalPerf) it, and dwell H3427 (QalPerf) therein.

And the nation that causeth its neck to enter into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and hath served him-I have left it on its ground-an affirmation of Jehovah-and it hath tilled it, and dwelt in it.’

Why will you die, you and your people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as Yahweh has spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?

Why do ye die, thou and thy people, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as Jehovah hath spoken concerning the nation that doth not serve the king of Babylon?

which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon didn’t take when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem—

That Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath not taken, in his removing Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon with all the freemen of Judah and Jerusalem,

That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahweh’s house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

Within two years of days I am bringing back unto this place all the vessels of the house of Jehovah that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath taken from this place, and doth carry to Babylon,

even the prophet Jeremiah said, “Amen! May Yahweh do so. May Yahweh perform your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Yahweh’s house, and all those who are captives, from Babylon to this place.

Yea, Jeremiah the prophet saith, ‘Amen! so may Jehovah do; Jehovah establish thy words that thou hast prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the house of Jehovah and all the removal from Babylon, unto this place.

Nevertheless listen now to this word that I speak in your ears, and in the ears of all the people:

‘Only, hear, I pray thee, this word that I am speaking in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people.

The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, of evil, and of pestilence.

The prophets H5030 that have been before H6440 me and before H6440 thee of old H5769 prophesied H5012 (NiphImpf) both against many H7227 countries, H776 and against great H1419 kingdoms, H4467 of war, H4421 and of evil, H7451 and of pestilence. H1698

The prophets who have been before me, and before thee, from of old, even they prophesy concerning many lands, and concerning great kingdoms, of battle, and of evil, and of pestilence.

As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that Yahweh has truly sent him.”

The prophet who doth prophesy of peace-by the coming in of the word of the prophet, known is the prophet that Jehovah hath truly sent him.’

Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the residue of the elders of the captivity, and to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Now these [are] the words H1697 of the letter H5612 that Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 sent H7971 (QalPerf) from Jerusalem H3389 unto the residue H3499 of the elders H2205 which were carried away captives, H1473 and to the priests, H3548 and to the prophets, H5030 and to all the people H5971 whom Nebuchadnezzar H5019 had carried away captive H1540 (HiphPerf) from Jerusalem H3389 to Babylon; H894

And these are words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem unto the remnant of the elders of the removal, and unto the priests, and unto the prophets, and unto all the people-whom Nebuchadnezzar removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

by the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon). It said:

By the hand of Eleasah son of Shaphan, and Gemariah son of Hilkijah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah sent unto Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon-to Babylon, saying,

Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says to all the captives whom I have caused to be carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon:

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 unto all that are carried away captives, H1473 whom I have caused to be carried away H1540 (HiphPerf) from Jerusalem H3389 unto Babylon; H894

‘Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, to all the removal that I removed from Jerusalem to Babylon,

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

And seek H1875 (QalImpv) the peace H7965 of the city H5892 whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, H1540 (HiphPerf) and pray H6419 (HithImpv) unto the Lord H3068 for it: for in the peace H7965 thereof shall ye have peace. H7965

And seek the peace of the city whither I have removed you, and pray for it unto Jehovah, for in its peace ye have peace.

For Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: “Don’t let your prophets who are among you and your diviners deceive you. Don’t listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed.

For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 Let not your prophets H5030 and your diviners, H7080 (QalActPtc) that [be] in the midst H7130 of you, deceive H5377 (HiphImpf) you, neither hearken H8085 (QalImpf) to your dreams H2472 which ye cause to be dreamed. ‘For thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Let not your prophets who are in your midst, and your diviners, lift you up, nor hearken ye unto their dreams, that ye are causing them to dream;

I will be found by you,” says Yahweh, “and I will turn again your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places where I have driven you, says Yahweh. I will bring you again to the place from where I caused you to be carried away captive.”

And I will be found H4672 (NiphPerf) of you, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord: H3068 and I will turn away H7725 (QalPerf) your captivity, H7622 (Qere) H7622 and I will gather H6908 (PielPerf) you from all the nations, H1471 and from all the places H4725 whither I have driven H5080 (HiphPerf) you, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord; H3068 and I will bring you again H7725 (HiphPerf) into the place H4725 whence I caused you to be carried away captive. And I have been found of you-an affirmation of Jehovah; and I have turned back to your captivity, and have gathered you out of all the nations, and out of all the places whither I have driven you-an affirmation of Jehovah-and I have brought you back unto the place whence I removed you.

Yahweh says concerning the king who sits on David’s throne, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your brothers who haven’t gone with you into captivity,

[Know] that thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of the king H4428 that sitteth H3427 (QalActPtc) upon the throne H3678 of David, H1732 and of all the people H5971 that dwelleth H3427 (QalActPtc) in this city, H5892 [and] of your brethren H251 that are not gone forth H3318 (QalPerf) with you into captivity; H1473

Surely thus said Jehovah concerning the king who is sitting on the throne of David, and concerning all the people that is dwelling in this city, your brethren who went not forth with you in the removal;

I will pursue after them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence, and will deliver them to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth, to be an object of horror, an astonishment, a hissing, and a reproach among all the nations where I have driven them,

And I will persecute H7291 (QalPerf) them H310 with the sword, H2719 with the famine, H7458 and with the pestilence, H1698 and will deliver H5414 (QalPerf) them to be removed H2189 (Qere) H2113 to all the kingdoms H4467 of the earth, H776 to be a curse, H423 and an astonishment, H8047 and an hissing, H8322 and a reproach, H2781 among all the nations H1471 whither I have driven H5080 (HiphPerf) them:

And I have pursued after them with sword, with famine, and with pestilence, and have given them for a trembling to all kingdoms of the earth, for a curse and for an astonishment, and for a hissing, and for a reproach among all the nations whither I have driven them,

because they have not listened to my words,” says Yahweh, “with which I sent to them my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but you would not hear,” says Yahweh.

Because they have not hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) to my words, H1697 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 which I sent H7971 (QalPerf) unto them by my servants H5650 the prophets, H5030 rising up early H7925 (HiphInf) and sending H7971 (QalInf) [them]; but ye would not hear, H8085 (QalPerf) saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. Because that they have not hearkened unto My words-an affirmation of Jehovah-that I sent unto them by My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, and ye hearkened not-an affirmation of Jehovah.

Hear therefore Yahweh’s word, all you captives whom I have sent away from Jerusalem to Babylon.

Hear H8085 (QalImpv) ye therefore the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 all ye of the captivity, H1473 whom I have sent H7971 (PielPerf) from Jerusalem H3389 to Babylon: H894

‘And ye, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all ye of the captivity that I have sent from Jerusalem to Babylon,

A curse will be taken up about them by all the captives of Judah who are in Babylon, saying, ‘Yahweh make you like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;’

And of them shall be taken up H3947 (PualPerf) a curse H7045 by all the captivity H1546 of Judah H3063 which [are] in Babylon, H894 saying, H559 (QalInf) The Lord H3068 make H7760 (QalImpf) thee like Zedekiah H6667 and like Ahab, H256 whom the king H4428 of Babylon H894 roasted H7033 (QalPerf) in the fire; H784

And taken from them hath been a reviling by all the removed of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah doth set thee as Zedekiah, and as Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted with fire;

because they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them. I am he who knows, and am witness,” says Yahweh.

Because that they have done folly in Israel, and commit adultery with the wives of their neighbours, and speak a word in My name falsely that I have not commanded them, and I am He who knoweth and a witness-an affirmation of Jehovah.

“Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘Because you have sent letters in your own name to all the people who are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

Thus speaketh H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) Because thou hast sent H7971 (QalPerf) letters H5612 in thy name H8034 unto all the people H5971 that [are] at Jerusalem, H3389 and to Zephaniah H6846 the son H1121 of Maaseiah H4641 the priest, H3548 and to all the priests, H3548 saying, H559 (QalInf)

Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, saying, Because that thou hast sent in thy name letters unto all the people who are in Jerusalem, and unto Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, and unto all the priests, saying,

“Send to all of the captives, saying, ‘Yahweh says concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite: “Because Shemaiah has prophesied to you, and I didn’t send him, and he has caused you to trust in a lie,”

‘Send unto all the removal, saying, Thus said Jehovah concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah prophesied to you, and I-I have not sent him, and he doth cause you to trust on falsehood,

The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

The word H1697 that came to Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf)

The word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

“Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.

Thus speaketh H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) Write H3789 (QalImpv) thee all the words H1697 that I have spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto thee in a book. H5612

‘Thus spake Jehovah, God of Israel, saying, Write for thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee on a book.

These are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

And these [are] the words H1697 that the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielPerf) concerning Israel H3478 and concerning Judah. H3063

And these are the words that Jehovah hath spoken concerning Israel and concerning Judah:

but they will serve Yahweh their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.

But they shall serve H5647 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 their God, H430 and David H1732 their king, H4428 whom I will raise up H6965 (HiphImpf) unto them.

And they have served Jehovah their God, And David their king whom I raise up to them.

For I am with you, says Yahweh, to save you; for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished.”

For I [am] with thee, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 to save H3467 (HiphInf) thee: though I make H6213 (QalImpf) a full end H3617 of all nations H1471 whither I have scattered H6327 (HiphPerf) thee, yet will I not make H6213 (QalImpf) a full end H3617 of thee: but I will correct H3256 (PielPerf) thee in measure, H4941 and will not leave thee altogether H5352 (PielInf) unpunished. For with thee am I, An affirmation of Jehovah-to save thee, For I make an end of all the nations Whither I have scattered thee, Only, of thee I do not make an end, And I have chastised thee in judgment, And do not entirely acquit thee.

not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which covenant of mine they broke, although I was a husband to them,” says Yahweh.

Not like the covenant that I made with their fathers, In the day of My laying hold on their hand, To bring them out of the land of Egypt, In that they made void My covenant, And I ruled over them-an affirmation of Jehovah.

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

For this is the covenant that I make, With the house of Israel, after those days, An affirmation of Jehovah, I have given My law in their inward part, And on their heart I do write it, And I have been to them for God, And they are to me for a people.

Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

For then the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 army H2428 besieged H6696 (QalActPtc) Jerusalem: H3389 and Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 was shut up H3607 (QalPasPtc) in the court H2691 of the prison, H4307 which [was] in the king H4428 of Judah’s H3063 house. H1004

And then the forces of the king of Babylon are laying siege against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet hath been shut up in the court of the prison that is in the house of the king of Judah,

For Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy, and say, ‘Yahweh says, “Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will take it;

‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.” ’ ”

Lo, Hanameel son of Shallum, thine uncle, is coming unto thee, saying, Buy for thee my field that is in Anathoth, for thine is the right of redemption-to buy.

“So Hanamel my uncle’s son came to me in the court of the guard according to Yahweh’s word, and said to me, ‘Please buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the land of Benjamin; for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Buy it for yourself.’ “Then I knew that this was Yahweh’s word.

And Hanameel, my uncle’s son, cometh in unto me, according to the word of Jehovah, unto the court of the prison, and saith unto me, ‘Buy, I pray thee, my field that is in Anathoth, that is in the land of Benjamin, for thine is the right of possession, and thine of redemption-buy for thee.’ And I know that it is the word of Jehovah,

I bought the field that was in Anathoth of Hanamel my uncle’s son, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels° of silver.

“Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.

‘Lo, the mounts-they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which Thou hast spoken hath come to pass, and lo, Thou art seeing;

The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

And come in have the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city, and they have set this city on fire, and have burned it, and the houses on whose roofs they made perfume to Baal, and poured out libations to other gods, so as to provoke Me to anger.

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to defile it.

They built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through fire to Molech, which I didn’t command them. It didn’t even come into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”

Now therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning this city, about which you say, “It is given into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:”

‘And now, therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning this city, of which ye are saying, It hath been given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence,

“Behold, I will gather them out of all the countries where I have driven them in my anger, and in my wrath, and in great indignation; and I will bring them again to this place. I will cause them to dwell safely.
