I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me didn’t see the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves.

And I Daniel H1840 alone saw H7200 (QalPerf) the vision: H4759 for the men H582 that were with me saw H7200 (QalPerf) not the vision; H4759 but H61 a great H1419 quaking H2731 fell H5307 (QalPerf) upon them, so that they fled H1272 (QalImpf) to hide H2244 (NiphInf) themselves.

So I was left alone and saw this great vision. No strength remained in me; for my face grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.

Daniel 10:8 Or, vigour

και εγω υπελειφθην μονος και ειδον την οπτασιαν την μεγαλην ταυτην και ουχ υπελειφθη εν εμοι ισχυς και η δοξα μου μετεστραφη εις διαφθοραν και ουκ εκρατησα ισχυος

Behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who stood before me, “My lord, by reason of the vision my sorrows have overtaken me, and I retain no strength.

For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? For as for me, immediately there remained no strength in me. There was no breath left in me.”

Daniel 10:17 Or, this servant of my Lord

και πως δυνησεται ο παις σου κυριε λαλησαι μετα του κυριου μου τουτου και εγω απο του νυν ου στησεται εν εμοι ισχυς και πνοη ουχ υπελειφθη εν εμοι

When he stands up, his kingdom will be broken and will be divided toward the four winds of the sky, but not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom will be plucked up, even for others besides these.

And when he shall stand up, H5975 (QalInf) his kingdom H4438 shall be broken, H7665 (NiphImpf) and shall be divided H2673 (NiphImpf) toward the four H702 winds H7307 of heaven; H8064 and not to his posterity, H319 nor according to his dominion H4915 which he ruled: H4910 (QalPerf) for his kingdom H4438 shall be plucked up, H5428 (NiphImpf) even for others H312 beside those.

At the end of years they will join themselves together; and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north to make an agreement, but she will not retain the strength of her arm. He will also not stand, nor will his arm; but she will be given up, with those who brought her, and he who became the father of her, and he who strengthened her in those times.

The multitude will be carried off, and his heart will be exalted. He will cast down tens of thousands, but he won’t prevail.

And when he hath taken away H5375 (NiphPerf) the multitude, H1995 his heart H3824 shall be lifted up; H7311 (QalPerf) (Qere) H7311 (QalImpf) and he shall cast down H5307 (HiphPerf) many ten thousands: H7239 but he shall not be strengthened H5810 (QalImpf) by it.

και λημψεται τον οχλον και υψωθησεται η καρδια αυτου και καταβαλει μυριαδας και ου κατισχυσει

So the king of the north will come and cast up a mound, and take a well-fortified city. The forces of the south won’t stand, neither will his select troops, neither will there be any strength to stand.

και εισελευσεται βασιλευς του βορρα και εκχεει προσχωμα και συλλημψεται πολεις οχυρας και οι βραχιονες του βασιλεως του νοτου ου στησονται και αναστησονται οι εκλεκτοι αυτου και ουκ εσται ισχυς του στηναι

He will set his face to come with the strength of his whole kingdom, and with him equitable conditions. He will perform them. He will give him the daughter of women, to destroy the kingdom, but she will not stand, and won’t be for him.

Then he will turn his face toward the fortresses of his own land; but he will stumble and fall, and won’t be found.

“In his place a contemptible person will stand up, to whom they had not given the honor of the kingdom; but he will come in time of security, and will obtain the kingdom by flatteries.

Daniel 11:21 Or, place

στησεται επι την ετοιμασιαν αυτου εξουδενωθη και ουκ εδωκαν επ αυτον δοξαν βασιλειας και ηξει εν ευθηνια και κατισχυσει βασιλειας εν ολισθρημασιν

In time of security he will come even on the fattest places of the province. He will do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers. He will scatter among them prey, plunder, and wealth. Yes, he will devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time.

“He will stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south will wage war in battle with an exceedingly great and mighty army, but he won’t stand; for they will devise plans against him.

As for both these kings, their hearts will be to do evil, and they will speak lies at one table; but it won’t prosper, for the end will still be at the appointed time.

Daniel 11:27 Heb. their hearts

και αμφοτεροι οι βασιλεις αι καρδιαι αυτων εις πονηριαν και επι τραπεζη μια ψευδη λαλησουσιν και ου κατευθυνει οτι ετι περας εις καιρον

“He will return at the appointed time and come into the south; but it won’t be in the latter time as it was in the former.

At the time appointed H4150 he shall return, H7725 (QalImpf) and come H935 (QalPerf) toward the south; H5045 but it shall not be as the former, H7223 or as the latter. H314

εις τον καιρον επιστρεψει και ηξει εν τω νοτω και ουκ εσται ως η πρωτη και ως η εσχατη

He won’t regard the gods of his fathers, or the desire of women, or regard any god; for he will magnify himself above all.

και επι παντας θεους των πατερων αυτου ου συνησει και επι επιθυμιαν γυναικων και επι παν θεον ου συνησει οτι επι παντας μεγαλυνθησεται

But in their place, he will honor the god of fortresses. He will honor a god whom his fathers didn’t know with gold, silver, and with precious stones and pleasant things.

But in his estate H3653 shall he honour H3513 (PielImpf) the God H433 of forces:^§ H4581 and a god H433 whom his fathers H1 knew H3045 (QalPerf) not shall he honour H3513 (PielImpf) with gold, H2091 and silver, H3701 and with precious H3368 stones, H68 and pleasant things.^§ H2532

He will also stretch out his hand on the countries. The land of Egypt won’t escape.

“At that time Michael will stand up, the great prince who stands for the children of your people; and there will be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time. At that time your people will be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book.

I heard, but I didn’t understand. Then I said, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?”

και εγω ηκουσα και ου συνηκα και ειπα κυριε τι τα εσχατα τουτων

Many will purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined, but the wicked will do wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

She conceived again, and bore a daughter. Then he said to him, “Call her name Lo-Ruhamah,° for I will no longer have mercy on the house of Israel, that I should in any way pardon them.

Hosea 1:6 Lo-Ruhamah means “not loved”.

Yet the number of the children of Israel will be as the sand of the sea, which can’t be measured or counted; and it will come to pass that, in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’

Indeed, on her children I will have no mercy, for they are children of unfaithfulness.

Therefore behold,^§ I will hedge up your way with thorns, and I will build a wall against her, that she can’t find her way.

Hosea 2:6 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Hosea 2:6 Heb. wall a wall

She will follow after her lovers, but she won’t overtake them; and she will seek them, but won’t find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for then it was better with me than now.’

They will eat, and not have enough. They will play the prostitute, and will not increase; because they have abandoned listening to Yahweh.

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, Ephraim, you have played the prostitute. Israel is defiled.

Hosea 5:4 Heb. they will not give

ουκ εδωκαν τα διαβουλια αυτων του επιστρεψαι προς τον θεον αυτων οτι πνευμα πορνειας εν αυτοις εστιν τον δε κυριον ουκ επεγνωσαν

They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Yahweh, but they won’t find him. He has withdrawn himself from them.
