Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor. He was the son of a prostitute. Gilead became the father of Jephthah.

και ιεφθαε ο γαλααδιτης δυνατος εν ισχυι και αυτος ην υιος γυναικος πορνης και ετεκεν τω γαλααδ τον ιεφθαε

Gilead’s wife bore him sons. When his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, “You will not inherit in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”

και ετεκεν η γυνη γαλααδ αυτω υιους και ηδρυνθησαν οι υιοι της γυναικος και εξεβαλον τον ιεφθαε και ειπον αυτω ου κληρονομησεις εν τω οικω του πατρος ημων οτι γυναικος υιος εταιρας ει συ

Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. Outlaws joined up with Jephthah, and they went out with him.

και απεδρα ιεφθαε εκ προσωπου των αδελφων αυτου και κατωκησεν εν γη τωβ και συνελεγοντο προς τον ιεφθαε ανδρες λιτοι και συνεξεπορευοντο μετ αυτου

When the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah out of the land of Tob.

And it was so, that when the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 made war H3898 (NiphPerf) against Israel, H3478 the elders H2205 of Gilead H1568 went H3212 (QalImpf) to fetch H3947 (QalInf) Jephthah H3316 out of the land H776 of Tob: H2897

και εγενηθη ηνικα επολεμουν οι υιοι αμμων μετα ισραηλ και επορευθησαν οι πρεσβυτεροι γαλααδ παραλαβειν τον ιεφθαε εν γη τωβ

They said to Jephthah, “Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.”

and they said H559 (QalImpf) unto Jephthah, H3316 Come, H3212 (QalImpv) and be our captain, H7101 that we may fight H3898 (NiphImpf) with the children H1121 of Ammon. H5983

και ειπαν προς ιεφθαε δευρο και εση ημιν εις ηγουμενον και πολεμησωμεν εν τοις υιοις αμμων

Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Didn’t you hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”

And Jephthah H3316 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the elders H2205 of Gilead, H1568 Did not ye hate H8130 (QalPerf) me, and expel H1644 (PielImpf) me out of my father’s H1 house? H1004 and why are ye come H935 (QalPerf) unto me now when ye are in distress? H6887 (QalPerf)

και ειπεν ιεφθαε τοις πρεσβυτεροις γαλααδ ουχ υμεις εμισησατε με και εξεβαλετε με εκ του οικου του πατρος μου και εξαπεστειλατε με αφ υμων και τι οτι ηλθατε προς με ηνικα εθλιβητε

The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Therefore we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us and fight with the children of Ammon. You will be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

And the elders H2205 of Gilead H1568 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Jephthah, H3316 Therefore we turn again H7725 (QalPerf) to thee now, that thou mayest go H1980 (QalPerf) with us, and fight H3898 (NiphPerf) against the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and be our head H7218 over all the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Gilead. και ειπαν οι πρεσβυτεροι γαλααδ προς ιεφθαε ουχ ουτως νυν ηλθομεν προς σε και συμπορευση ημιν και πολεμησομεν εν τοις υιοις αμμων και εση ημιν εις κεφαλην πασιν τοις κατοικουσιν γαλααδ

Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “If you bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivers them before me, will I be your head?”

And Jephthah H3316 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the elders H2205 of Gilead, H1568 If ye bring me home again H7725 (HiphPtc) to fight H3898 (NiphInf) against the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and the Lord H3068 deliver H5414 (QalPerf) them before H6440 me, shall I be your head? H7218

και ειπεν ιεφθαε προς τους πρεσβυτερους γαλααδ ει επιστρεφετε με υμεις πολεμησαι εν τοις υιοις αμμων και παραδω κυριος αυτους ενωπιον εμου εγω υμιν εσομαι εις κεφαλην

The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “Yahweh will be witness between us. Surely we will do what you say.”

And the elders H2205 of Gilead H1568 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Jephthah, H3316 The Lord H3068 be witness H8085 (QalActPtc) between us,^§ if we do H6213 (QalImpf) not so according to thy words. H1697

Judges 11:10 Heb. be hearer between us

και ειπαν οι πρεσβυτεροι γαλααδ προς ιεφθαε κυριος εσται ο ακουων ανα μεσον ημων ει μη κατα το ρημα σου ουτως ποιησομεν

Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them. Jephthah spoke all his words before Yahweh in Mizpah.

και επορευθη ιεφθαε μετα των πρεσβυτερων γαλααδ και κατεστησαν αυτον επ αυτων εις κεφαλην εις ηγουμενον και ελαλησεν ιεφθαε παντας τους λογους αυτου ενωπιον κυριου εν μασσηφα

Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “What do you have to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”

και απεστειλεν ιεφθαε αγγελους προς βασιλεα υιων αμμων λεγων τι εμοι και σοι οτι ηκεις προς με συ πολεμησαι με εν τη γη μου

The king of the children of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, “Because Israel took away my land when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and to the Jordan. Now therefore restore that territory again peaceably.”

And the king H4428 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 answered H559 (QalImpf) unto the messengers H4397 of Jephthah, H3316 Because Israel H3478 took away H3947 (QalPerf) my land, H776 when they came up H5927 (QalInf) out of Egypt, H4714 from Arnon H769 even unto Jabbok, H2999 and unto Jordan: H3383 now therefore restore those lands again H7725 (HiphImpv) peaceably. και ειπεν βασιλευς υιων αμμων προς τους αγγελους ιεφθαε διοτι ελαβεν ισραηλ την γην μου εν τη αναβασει αυτου εξ αιγυπτου απο αρνων εως ιαβοκ και εως του ιορδανου και νυν επιστρεψον αυτας μετ ειρηνης

Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon;

And Jephthah H3316 sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 again H3254 (HiphImpf) unto the king H4428 of the children H1121 of Ammon: H5983

και απεστρεψαν οι αγγελοι προς ιεφθαε και απεστειλεν ιεφθαε αγγελους προς τον βασιλεα υιων αμμων

and he said to him, “Jephthah says: Israel didn’t take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon;

and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) Jephthah, H3316 Israel H3478 took not away H3947 (QalPerf) the land H776 of Moab, H4124 nor the land H776 of the children H1121 of Ammon: H5983

λεγων ταδε λεγει ιεφθαε ουκ ελαβεν ισραηλ την γην μωαβ και την γην υιων αμμων

However, the king of the children of Ammon didn’t listen to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.

Howbeit the king H4428 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) not unto the words H1697 of Jephthah H3316 which he sent H7971 (QalPerf) him.

και ουκ εισηκουσεν βασιλευς υιων αμμων και ουκ εισηκουσεν των λογων ιεφθαε ων απεστειλεν προς αυτον

Then Yahweh’s Spirit came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.

Then the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 came upon Jephthah, H3316 and he passed over H5674 (QalImpf) Gilead, H1568 and Manasseh, H4519 and passed over H5674 (QalImpf) Mizpeh H4708 of Gilead, H1568 and from Mizpeh H4708 of Gilead H1568 he passed over H5674 (QalPerf) unto the children H1121 of Ammon. και εγενηθη επι ιεφθαε πνευμα κυριου και διεβη την γην γαλααδ και τον μανασση και διεβη την σκοπιαν γαλααδ και απο σκοπιας γαλααδ εις το περαν υιων αμμων

Jephthah vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,

And Jephthah H3316 vowed H5087 (QalImpf) a vow H5088 unto the Lord, H3068 and said, H559 (QalImpf) If thou shalt without fail H5414 (QalInf) deliver H5414 (QalImpf) the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 into mine hands, H3027

και ηυξατο ιεφθαε ευχην τω κυριω και ειπεν εαν παραδωσει παραδως μοι τους υιους αμμων εν χειρι μου

So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Yahweh delivered them into his hand.

So Jephthah H3316 passed over H5674 (QalImpf) unto the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 to fight H3898 (NiphInf) against them; and the Lord H3068 delivered H5414 (QalImpf) them into his hands. H3027

και διεβη ιεφθαε προς τους υιους αμμων του πολεμησαι προς αυτους και παρεδωκεν αυτους κυριος εν χειρι αυτου

Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.

And Jephthah H3316 came H935 (QalImpf) to Mizpeh H4709 unto his house, H1004 and, behold, his daughter H1323 came out H3318 (QalActPtc) to meet H7125 (QalInf) him with timbrels H8596 and with dances: H4246 and she was his only child; H3173 beside her he had neither son H1121 nor H176 daughter.^§ H1323

και ηλθεν ιεφθαε εις μασσηφα εις τον οικον αυτου και ιδου η θυγατηρ αυτου εξεπορευετο εις απαντησιν αυτου εν τυμπανοις και χοροις και αυτη μονογενης αυτω αγαπητη και ουκ εστιν αυτω πλην αυτης υιος η θυγατηρ

that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.

εξ ημερων εις ημερας συνεπορευοντο αι θυγατερες ισραηλ θρηνειν την θυγατερα ιεφθαε του γαλααδιτου τεσσαρας ημερας εν τω ενιαυτω

The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”

και συνηχθησαν οι υιοι εφραιμ και ηλθον εις σεφινα και ειπον προς ιεφθαε τι οτι επορευθης πολεμειν εν τοις υιοις αμμων και ημας ου κεκληκας πορευθηναι μετα σου τον οικον σου εμπρησομεν εν πυρι

Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.

και ειπεν προς αυτους ιεφθαε ανηρ αντιδικων ημην εγω και ο λαος μου και οι υιοι αμμων εταπεινουν με σφοδρα και εβοησα προς υμας και ουκ εσωσατε με εκ χειρος αυτων

Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the middle of Ephraim, and in the middle of Manasseh.”

Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in the cities of Gilead.

και εκρινεν ιεφθαε τον ισραηλ εξ ετη και απεθανεν ιεφθαε ο γαλααδιτης και εταφη εν τη πολει αυτου γαλααδ

Yahweh sent Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you lived in safety.
