All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”

There was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Yahweh. Yahweh said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

Therefore I will give thanks to you, Yahweh, among the nations, and will sing praises to your name.

Notwithstanding, the king’s word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to count the people of Israel.

Then come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne; for he shall be king in my place. I have appointed him to be prince over Israel and over Judah.”

The days that David reigned over Israel were forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his place over the army; and the king put Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar.

King Solomon was king over all Israel.

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the army; Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

και σαδουχ και αβιαθαρ ιερεις

Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan was chief minister, the king’s friend;

And Azariah H5838 the son H1121 of Nathan H5416 [was] over the officers: H5324 (NiphPtc) and Zabud H2071 the son H1121 of Nathan H5416 [was] principal officer, H3548 [and] the king’s H4428 friend: H7463

και ορνια υιος ναθαν επι των καθεσταμενων και ζαβουθ υιος ναθαν εταιρος του βασιλεως

Ahishar was over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to forced labor.

Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided food for the king and his household. Each man had to make provision for a month in the year.

When Hiram heard the words of Solomon, he rejoiced greatly, and said, “Blessed is Yahweh today, who has given to David a wise son to rule over this great people.”

^[5:21] και εγενηθη καθως ηκουσεν χιραμ των λογων σαλωμων εχαρη σφοδρα και ειπεν ευλογητος ο θεος σημερον ος εδωκεν τω δαυιδ υιον φρονιμον επι τον λαον τον πολυν τουτον

He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses: for a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor.

besides Solomon’s chief officers who were over the work: three thousand three hundred who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

In the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month Ziv, which is the second month, he began to build Yahweh’s house.

The porch in front of the temple of the house had a length of twenty cubits, which was along the width of the house. Ten cubits was its width in front of the house.

Against the wall of the house, he built floors all around, against the walls of the house all around, both of the temple and of the inner sanctuary; and he made side rooms all around.

και εδωκεν επι τον τοιχον του οικου μελαθρα κυκλοθεν τω ναω και τω δαβιρ και εποιησεν πλευρας κυκλοθεν

He built the floors all along the house, each five cubits high; and they rested on the house with timbers of cedar.

It was covered with cedar above over the forty-five beams that were on the pillars, fifteen in a row.

The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they were not seen outside. They are there to this day.

And they drew out H748 (HiphImpf) the staves, H905 that the ends H7218 of the staves H905 were seen out H7200 (NiphImpf) in the holy H6944 [place] before H6440 the oracle, H1687 and they were not seen H7200 (NiphImpf) without: H2351 and there they are unto this day. H3117

και υπερειχον τα ηγιασμενα και ενεβλεποντο αι κεφαλαι των ηγιασμενων εκ των αγιων εις προσωπον του δαβιρ και ουκ ωπτανοντο εξω

‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’

αφ ης ημερας εξηγαγον τον λαον μου τον ισραηλ εξ αιγυπτου ουκ εξελεξαμην εν πολει εν ενι σκηπτρω ισραηλ του οικοδομησαι οικον του ειναι το ονομα μου εκει και εξελεξαμην εν ιερουσαλημ ειναι το ονομα μου εκει και εξελεξαμην τον δαυιδ του ειναι επι τον λαον μου τον ισραηλ

“If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to Yahweh toward the city which you have chosen, and toward the house which I have built for your name,

οτι εξελευσεται ο λαος σου εις πολεμον επι τους εχθρους αυτου εν οδω η επιστρεψεις αυτους και προσευξονται εν ονοματι κυριου οδον της πολεως ης εξελεξω εν αυτη και του οικου ου ωκοδομησα τω ονοματι σου

then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’

και αναστησω τον θρονον της βασιλειας σου επι ισραηλ εις τον αιωνα καθως ελαλησα τω δαυιδ πατρι σου λεγων ουκ εξαρθησεται σοι ανηρ ηγουμενος εν ισραηλ

Though this house is so high, yet everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss; and they will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this land and to this house?’

And at this house, H1004 [which] is high, H5945 every one that passeth H5674 (QalActPtc) by it shall be astonished, H8074 (QalImpf) and shall hiss; H8319 (QalPerf) and they shall say, H559 (QalPerf) Why hath the Lord H3068 done H6213 (QalPerf) thus unto this land, H776 and to this house? H1004

και ο οικος ουτος ο υψηλος πας ο διαπορευομενος δι αυτου εκστησεται και συριει και ερουσιν ενεκα τινος εποιησεν κυριος ουτως τη γη ταυτη και τω οικω τουτω

and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’ ”

και ερουσιν ανθ ων εγκατελιπον κυριον θεον αυτων ος εξηγαγεν τους πατερας αυτων εξ αιγυπτου εξ οικου δουλειας και αντελαβοντο θεων αλλοτριων και προσεκυνησαν αυτοις και εδουλευσαν αυτοις δια τουτο επηγαγεν κυριος επ αυτους την κακιαν ταυτην

These were the five hundred fifty chief officers who were over Solomon’s work, who ruled over the people who labored in the work.

She said to the king, “It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts and of your wisdom.

και ειπεν προς τον βασιλεα σαλωμων αληθινος ο λογος ον ηκουσα εν τη γη μου περι του λογου σου και περι της φρονησεως σου

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.

^[11:5] τοτε ωκοδομησεν σαλωμων υψηλον τω χαμως ειδωλω μωαβ και τω βασιλει αυτων ειδωλω υιων αμμων

and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he didn’t keep that which Yahweh commanded.

And had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) him concerning this thing, H1697 that he should not go H3212 (QalInf) after H310 other H312 gods: H430 but he kept H8104 (QalPerf) not that which the Lord H3068 commanded. H6680 (PielPerf)

και εντειλαμενου αυτω υπερ του λογου τουτου το παραπαν μη πορευθηναι οπισω θεων ετερων και φυλαξασθαι ποιησαι α ενετειλατο αυτω κυριος ο θεος

He was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, in addition to the mischief of Hadad. He abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.

And he was an adversary H7854 to Israel H3478 all the days H3117 of Solomon, H8010 beside the mischief H7451 that Hadad H1908 [did]: and he abhorred H6973 (QalImpf) Israel, H3478 and reigned H4427 (QalImpf) over Syria. H758

αυτη η κακια ην εποιησεν αδερ και εβαρυθυμησεν εν ισραηλ και εβασιλευσεν εν γη εδωμ

I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.

And I will take H3947 (QalImpf) thee, and thou shalt reign H4427 (QalPerf) according to all that thy soul H5315 desireth, H183 (PielImpf) and shalt be king H4428 over Israel. H3478

και σε λημψομαι και βασιλευσεις εν οις επιθυμει η ψυχη σου και συ εση βασιλευς επι τον ισραηλ

The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

And the time H3117 that Solomon H8010 reigned H4427 (QalPerf) in Jerusalem H3389 over all Israel H3478 [was] forty H705 years. H8141

και αι ημεραι ας εβασιλευσεν σαλωμων εν ιερουσαλημ τεσσαρακοντα ετη

But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

But [as for] the children H1121 of Israel H3478 which dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) in the cities H5892 of Judah, H3063 Rehoboam H7346 reigned H4427 (QalImpf) over them.
