1 Kings 11 (WEBP)
[1] Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites,
[2] of the nations concerning which Yahweh said to the children of Israel, “You shall not go among them, neither shall they come among you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon joined to these in love.
[3] He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines. His wives turned his heart away.
[4] When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as the heart of David his father was.
[5] For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
[6] Solomon did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and didn’t go fully after Yahweh, as David his father did.
[7] Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the children of Ammon.
[8] So he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
[9] Yahweh was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Yahweh, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
[10] and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he didn’t keep that which Yahweh commanded.
[11] Therefore Yahweh said to Solomon, “Because this is done by you, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant.
[12] Nevertheless, I will not do it in your days, for David your father’s sake; but I will tear it out of your son’s hand.
[13] However, I will not tear away all the kingdom; but I will give one tribe to your son, for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.”
[14] Yahweh raised up an adversary to Solomon: Hadad the Edomite. He was one of the king’s offspring in Edom.
[15] For when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army had gone up to bury the slain, and had struck every male in Edom
[16] (for Joab and all Israel remained there six months, until he had cut off every male in Edom),
[17] Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt, when Hadad was still a little child.
[18] They arose out of Midian and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, and appointed him food, and gave him land.
[19] Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him as wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.
[20] The sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh’s house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh’s house among the sons of Pharaoh.
[21] When Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.”
[22] Then Pharaoh said to him, “But what have you lacked with me, that behold, you seek to go to your own country?” He answered, “Nothing, however only let me depart.”
[23] God raised up an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord, Hadadezer king of Zobah.
[24] He gathered men to himself, and became captain over a troop, when David killed them of Zobah. They went to Damascus and lived there, and reigned in Damascus.
[25] He was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, in addition to the mischief of Hadad. He abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.
[26] Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow, also lifted up his hand against the king.
[27] This was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of his father David’s city.
[28] The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Joseph.
[29] At that time, when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him on the way. Now Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and the two of them were alone in the field.
[30] Ahijah took the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces.
[31] He said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces; for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you
[32] (but he shall have one tribe, for my servant David’s sake and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel),
[33] because they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.
[34] “ ‘However, I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my statutes,
[35] but I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand and will give it to you, even ten tribes.
[36] I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.
[37] I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel.
[38] It shall be, if you will listen to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my eyes, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did, that I will be with you, and will build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you.
[39] I will afflict the offspring of David for this, but not forever.’ ”
[40] Therefore Solomon sought to kill Jeroboam, but Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
[41] Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, aren’t they written in the book of the acts of Solomon?
[42] The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
[43] Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in his father David’s city; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

1 Kings 11 (KJVS)
[1] But king H4428 Solomon H8010 loved H157 (8804) many H7227 strange H5237 women H802, together with the daughter H1323 of Pharaoh H6547, women of the Moabites H4125, Ammonites H5984, Edomites H130, Zidonians H6722, [and] Hittites H2850;
[2] Of the nations H1471 [concerning] which the LORD H3068 said H559 (8804) unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478, Ye shall not go in H935 (8799) to them, neither shall they come in H935 (8799) unto you: [for] surely H403 they will turn away H5186 (8686) your heart H3824 after H310 their gods H430: Solomon H8010 clave H1692 (8804) unto these in love H157 (8800).
[3] And he had seven H7651 hundred H3967 wives H802, princesses H8282, and three H7969 hundred H3967 concubines H6370: and his wives H802 turned away H5186 (8686) his heart H3820.
[4] For it came to pass, when H6256 Solomon H8010 was old H2209, [that] his wives H802 turned away H5186 (8689) his heart H3824 after H310 other H312 gods H430: and his heart H3824 was not perfect H8003 with the LORD H3068 his God H430, as [was] the heart H3824 of David H1732 his father H1.
[5] For Solomon H8010 went H3212 (8799) after H310 Ashtoreth H6253 the goddess H430 of the Zidonians H6722, and after H310 Milcom H4445 the abomination H8251 of the Ammonites H5984.
[6] And Solomon H8010 did H6213 (8799) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068, and went not fully H4390 (8765) after H310 the LORD H3068, as [did] David H1732 his father H1.
[7] Then did Solomon H8010 build H1129 (8799) an high place H1116 for Chemosh H3645, the abomination H8251 of Moab H4124, in the hill H2022 that [is] before H6440 Jerusalem H3389, and for Molech H4432, the abomination H8251 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983.
[8] And likewise did H6213 (8804) he for all his strange H5237 wives H802, which burnt incense H6999 (8688) and sacrificed H2076 (8764) unto their gods H430.
[9] And the LORD H3068 was angry H599 (8691) with Solomon H8010, because his heart H3824 was turned H5186 (8804) from the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478, which had appeared H7200 (8738) unto him twice H6471,
[10] And had commanded H6680 (8765) him concerning this thing H1697, that he should not go H3212 (8800) after H310 other H312 gods H430: but he kept H8104 (8804) not that which the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 (8765).
[11] Wherefore the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799) unto Solomon H8010, Forasmuch as this is done of thee, and thou hast not kept H8104 (8804) my covenant H1285 and my statutes H2708, which I have commanded H6680 (8765) thee, I will surely H7167 (8800) rend H7167 (8799) the kingdom H4467 from thee, and will give H5414 (8804) it to thy servant H5650.
[12] Notwithstanding in thy days H3117 I will not do H6213 (8799) it for David H1732 thy father’s H1 sake: [but] I will rend H7167 (8799) it out of the hand H3027 of thy son H1121.
[13] Howbeit H7535 I will not rend away H7167 (8799) all the kingdom H4467; [but] will give H5414 (8799) one H259 tribe H7626 to thy son H1121 for David H1732 my servant’s H5650 sake, and for Jerusalem’s H3389 sake which I have chosen H977 (8804).
[14] And the LORD H3068 stirred up H6965 (8686) an adversary H7854 unto Solomon H8010, Hadad H1908 the Edomite H130: he [was] of the king’s H4428 seed H2233 in Edom H123.
[15] For it came to pass, when David H1732 was in Edom H123, and Joab H3097 the captain H8269 of the host H6635 was gone up H5927 (8800) to bury H6912 (8763) the slain H2491, after he had smitten H5221 (8686) every male H2145 in Edom H123;
[16] (For six H8337 months H2320 did Joab H3097 remain H3427 (8804) there with all Israel H3478, until he had cut off H3772 (8689) every male H2145 in Edom H123:)
[17] That Hadad H111 fled H1272 (8799), he and certain H582 Edomites H130 of his father’s H1 servants H5650 with him, to go H935 (8800) into Egypt H4714; Hadad H1908 [being] yet a little H6996 child H5288.
[18] And they arose H6965 (8799) out of Midian H4080, and came H935 (8799) to Paran H6290: and they took H3947 (8799) men H582 with them out of Paran H6290, and they came H935 (8799) to Egypt H4714, unto Pharaoh H6547 king H4428 of Egypt H4714; which gave H5414 (8799) him an house H1004, and appointed H559 (8804) him victuals H3899, and gave H5414 (8804) him land H776.
[19] And Hadad H1908 found H4672 (8799) great H3966 favour H2580 in the sight H5869 of Pharaoh H6547, so that he gave H5414 (8799) him to wife H802 the sister H269 of his own wife H802, the sister H269 of Tahpenes H8472 the queen H1377.
[20] And the sister H269 of Tahpenes H8472 bare H3205 (8799) him Genubath H1592 his son H1121, whom Tahpenes H8472 weaned H1580 (8799) in H8432 Pharaoh’s H6547 house H1004: and Genubath H1592 was in Pharaoh’s H6547 household H1004 among H8432 the sons H1121 of Pharaoh H6547.
[21] And when Hadad H1908 heard H8085 (8804) in Egypt H4714 that David H1732 slept H7901 (8804) with his fathers H1, and that Joab H3097 the captain H8269 of the host H6635 was dead H4191 (8804), Hadad H1908 said H559 (8799) to Pharaoh H6547, Let me depart H7971 (8761), that I may go H3212 (8799) to mine own country H776.
[22] Then Pharaoh H6547 said H559 (8799) unto him, But what hast thou lacked H2638 with me, that, behold, thou seekest H1245 (8764) to go H3212 (8800) to thine own country H776? And he answered H559 (8799), Nothing: howbeit let me go H7971 (8762) in any wise H7971 (8763).
[23] And God H430 stirred him up H6965 (8686) [another] adversary H7854, Rezon H7331 the son H1121 of Eliadah H450, which fled H1272 (8804) from his lord H113 Hadadezer H1909 king H4428 of Zobah H6678:
[24] And he gathered H6908 (8799) men H582 unto him, and became captain H8269 over a band H1416, when David H1732 slew H2026 (8800) them [of Zobah]: and they went H3212 (8799) to Damascus H1834, and dwelt H3427 (8799) therein, and reigned H4427 (8799) in Damascus H1834.
[25] And he was an adversary H7854 to Israel H3478 all the days H3117 of Solomon H8010, beside the mischief H7451 that Hadad H1908 [did]: and he abhorred H6973 (8799) Israel H3478, and reigned H4427 (8799) over Syria H758.
[26] And Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028, an Ephrathite H673 of Zereda H6868, Solomon’s H8010 servant H5650, whose mother’s H517 name H8034 [was] Zeruah H6871, a widow H490 woman H802, even he lifted up H7311 (8686) [his] hand H3027 against the king H4428.
[27] And this [was] the cause H1697 that he lifted up H7311 (8689) [his] hand H3027 against the king H4428: Solomon H8010 built H1129 (8804) Millo H4407, [and] repaired H5462 (8804) the breaches H6556 of the city H5892 of David H1732 his father H1.
[28] And the man H376 Jeroboam H3379 [was] a mighty man H1368 of valour H2428: and Solomon H8010 seeing H7200 (8799) the young man H5288 that he was industrious H6213 (8802) H4399, he made him ruler H6485 (8686) over all the charge H5447 of the house H1004 of Joseph H3130.
[29] And it came to pass at that time H6256 when Jeroboam H3379 went out H3318 (8804) of Jerusalem H3389, that the prophet H5030 Ahijah H281 the Shilonite H7888 found H4672 (8799) him in the way H1870; and he had clad H3680 (8693) himself with a new H2319 garment H8008; and they two H8147 [were] alone in the field H7704:
[30] And Ahijah H281 caught H8610 (8799) the new H2319 garment H8008 that [was] on him, and rent H7167 (8799) it [in] twelve H8147 H6240 pieces H7168:
[31] And he said H559 (8799) to Jeroboam H3379, Take H3947 (8798) thee ten H6235 pieces H7168: for thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, the God H430 of Israel H3478, Behold, I will rend H7167 (8802) the kingdom H4467 out of the hand H3027 of Solomon H8010, and will give H5414 (8804) ten H6235 tribes H7626 to thee:
[32] (But he shall have one H259 tribe H7626 for my servant H5650 David’s H1732 sake, and for Jerusalem’s H3389 sake, the city H5892 which I have chosen H977 (8804) out of all the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478:)
[33] Because that they have forsaken H5800 (8804) me, and have worshipped H7812 (8691) Ashtoreth H6253 the goddess H430 of the Zidonians H6722, Chemosh H3645 the god H430 of the Moabites H4124, and Milcom H4445 the god H430 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983, and have not walked H1980 (8804) in my ways H1870, to do H6213 (8800) [that which is] right H3477 in mine eyes H5869, and [to keep] my statutes H2708 and my judgments H4941, as [did] David H1732 his father H1.
[34] Howbeit I will not take H3947 (8799) the whole kingdom H4467 out of his hand H3027: but I will make H7896 (8799) him prince H5387 all the days H3117 of his life H2416 for David H1732 my servant’s H5650 sake, whom I chose H977 (8804), because he kept H8104 (8804) my commandments H4687 and my statutes H2708:
[35] But I will take H3947 (8804) the kingdom H4410 out of his son’s H1121 hand H3027, and will give H5414 (8804) it unto thee, [even] ten H6235 tribes H7626.
[36] And unto his son H1121 will I give H5414 (8799) one H259 tribe H7626, that David H1732 my servant H5650 may have a light H5216 alway H3117 before H6440 me in Jerusalem H3389, the city H5892 which I have chosen H977 (8804) me to put H7760 (8800) my name H8034 there.
[37] And I will take H3947 (8799) thee, and thou shalt reign H4427 (8804) according to all that thy soul H5315 desireth H183 (8762), and shalt be king H4428 over Israel H3478.
[38] And it shall be, if thou wilt hearken H8085 (8799) unto all that I command H6680 (8762) thee, and wilt walk H1980 (8804) in my ways H1870, and do H6213 (8804) [that is] right H3477 in my sight H5869, to keep H8104 (8800) my statutes H2708 and my commandments H4687, as David H1732 my servant H5650 did H6213 (8804); that I will be with thee, and build H1129 (8804) thee a sure H539 (8737) house H1004, as I built H1129 (8804) for David H1732, and will give H5414 (8804) Israel H3478 unto thee.
[39] And I will for this afflict H6031 (8762) the seed H2233 of David H1732, but not for ever H3117.
[40] Solomon H8010 sought H1245 (8762) therefore to kill H4191 (8687) Jeroboam H3379. And Jeroboam H3379 arose H6965 (8799), and fled H1272 (8799) into Egypt H4714, unto Shishak H7895 king H4428 of Egypt H4714, and was in Egypt H4714 until the death H4194 of Solomon H8010.
[41] And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Solomon H8010, and all that he did H6213 (8804), and his wisdom H2451, [are] they not written H3789 (8803) in the book H5612 of the acts H1697 of Solomon H8010?
[42] And the time H3117 that Solomon H8010 reigned H4427 (8804) in Jerusalem H3389 over all Israel H3478 [was] forty H705 years H8141.
[43] And Solomon H8010 slept H7901 (8799) with his fathers H1, and was buried H6912 (8735) in the city H5892 of David H1732 his father H1: and Rehoboam H7346 his son H1121 reigned H4427 (8799) in his stead.
Young’s Literal Translation
1 Kings 11 (YLT)
[1] And king Solomon hath loved many strange women, and the daughter of Pharaoh, females of Moab, Ammon, Edom, Zidon, and of the Hittites,
[2] of the nations of which Jehovah said unto the sons of Israel, ‘Ye do not go in to them, and they do not go in to you; surely they turn aside your heart after their gods;’ to them hath Solomon cleaved for love.
[3] And he hath women, princesses, seven hundred, and concubines three hundred; and his wives turn aside his heart.
[4] And it cometh to pass, at the time of the old age of Solomon, his wives have turned aside his heart after other gods, and his heart hath not been perfect with Jehovah his God, like the heart of David his father.
[5] And Solomon goeth after Ashtoreth goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites;
[6] and Solomon doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and hath not been fully after Jehovah, like David his father.
[7] Then doth Solomon build a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is on the front of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the sons of Ammon;
[8] and so he hath done for all his strange women, who are perfuming and sacrificing to their gods.
[9] And Jehovah sheweth Himself angry with Solomon, for his heart hath turned aside from Jehovah, God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,
[10] and given a charge unto him concerning this thing, not to go after other gods; and he hath not kept that which Jehovah commanded,
[11] and Jehovah saith to Solomon, ‘Because that this hath been with thee, and thou hast not kept My covenant and My statutes that I charged upon thee, I surely rend the kingdom from thee, and have given it to thy servant.
[12] ‘Only, in thy days I do it not, for the sake of David thy father; out of the hand of thy son I rend it;
[13] only all the kingdom I do not rend away; one tribe I give to thy son, for the sake of David My servant, and for the sake of Jerusalem, that I have chosen.’
[14] And Jehovah raiseth up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; of the seed of the king is he in Edom;
[15] and it cometh to pass, in David’s being with Edom, in the going up of Joab head of the host to bury the slain, that he smiteth every male in Edom-
[16] for six months did Joab abide there, and all Israel, till the cutting off of every male in Edom-
[17] and Hadad fleeth, he and certain Edomites, of the servants of his father, with him, to go in to Egypt, and Hadad is a little youth,
[18] and they rise out of Midian, and come into Paran, and take men with them out of Paran, and come in to Egypt, unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he giveth to him a house, and bread hath commanded for him, and land hath given to him.
[19] And Hadad findeth grace in the eyes of Pharaoh exceedingly, and he giveth to him a wife, the sister of his own wife, sister of Tahpenes the mistress;
[20] and the sister of Tahpenes beareth to him Genubath his son, and Tahpenes weaneth him within the house of Pharaoh, and Genubath is in the house of Pharaoh in the midst of the sons of Pharaoh.
[21] And Hadad hath heard in Egypt that David hath lain with his fathers, and that Joab head of the host is dead, and Hadad saith unto Pharaoh, ‘Send me away, and I go unto my land.’
[22] And Pharaoh saith to him, ‘But, what art thou lacking with me, that lo, thou art seeking to go unto thine own land?’ and he saith, ‘Nay, but thou dost certainly send me away.’
[23] And God raiseth to him an adversary, Rezon son of Eliadah, who hath fled from Hadadezer king of Zobah, his lord,
[24] and gathereth unto himself men, and is head of a troop in David’s slaying them, and they go to Damascus, and dwell in it, and reign in Damascus;
[25] and he is an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, (besides the evil that Hadad did), and he cutteth off in Israel, and reigneth over Aram.
[26] And Jeroboam son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda-the name of whose mother is Zeruah, a widow woman-servant to Solomon, he also lifteth up a hand against the king;
[27] and this is the thing for which he lifted up a hand against the king: Solomon built Millo-he shut up the breach of the city of David his father,
[28] and the man Jeroboam is mighty in valour, and Solomon seeth the young man that he is doing business, and appointeth him over all the burden of the house of Joseph.
[29] And it cometh to pass, at that time, that Jeroboam hath gone out from Jerusalem, and Ahijah the Shilonite, the prophet, findeth him in the way, and he is covering himself with a new garment; and both of them are by themselves in a field,
[30] and Ahijah layeth hold on the new garment that is on him, and rendeth it-twelve pieces,
[31] and saith to Jeroboam, ‘Take to thee ten pieces, for thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, lo, I am rending the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and have given to thee the ten tribes,
[32] and the one tribe he hath for My servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have fixed on, out of all the tribes of Israel.
[33] ‘Because they have forsaken Me, and bow themselves to Ashtoreth, goddess of the Zidonians, to Chemosh god of Moab, and to Milcom god of the sons of Ammon, and have not walked in My ways, to do that which is right in Mine eyes, and My statutes and My judgments, like David his father.
[34] ‘And I do not take the whole of the kingdom out of his hand, for prince I make him all days of his life, for the sake of David My servant whom I chose, who kept My commands and My statutes;
[35] and I have taken the kingdom out of the hand of his son, and given it to thee-the ten tribes;
[36] and to his son I give one tribe, for there being a lamp to David My servant all the days before Me in Jerusalem, the city that I have chosen to Myself to put My name there.
[37] ‘And thee I take, and thou hast reigned over all that thy soul desireth, and thou hast been king over Israel;
[38] and it hath been, if thou dost hear all that I command thee, and hast walked in My ways, and done that which is right in Mine eyes, to keep My statutes and My commands, as did David My servant, that I have been with thee, and have built for thee a stedfast house, as I built for David, and have given to thee Israel,
[39] and I humble the seed of David for this; only, not all the days.’
[40] And Solomon seeketh to put Jeroboam to death, and Jeroboam riseth and fleeth to Egypt, unto Shishak king of Egypt, and he is in Egypt till the death of Solomon.
[41] And the rest of the matters of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written on the book of the matters of Solomon?
[42] And the days that Solomon hath reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel are forty years,
[43] and Solomon lieth with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David his father, and reign doth Rehoboam his son in his stead.
