1 Kings 21 (WEBP)
[1] After these things, Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria.
[2] Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, “Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near my house; and I will give you for it a better vineyard than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money.”
[3] Naboth said to Ahab, “May Yahweh forbid me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!”
[4] Ahab came into his house sullen and angry because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him, for he had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers.” He laid himself down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread.
[5] But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, “Why is your spirit so sad that you eat no bread?”
[6] He said to her, “Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, ‘Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.’ He answered, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’ ”
[7] Jezebel his wife said to him, “Do you now govern the kingdom of Israel? Arise, and eat bread, and let your heart be merry. I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.”
[8] So she wrote letters in Ahab’s name and sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and to the nobles who were in his city, who lived with Naboth.
[9] She wrote in the letters, saying, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
[10] Set two men, wicked fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, ‘You cursed God and the king!’ Then carry him out, and stone him to death.”
[11] The men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who lived in his city, did as Jezebel had instructed them in the letters which she had written and sent to them.
[12] They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people.
[13] The two men, the wicked fellows, came in and sat before him. The wicked fellows testified against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, “Naboth cursed God and the king!” Then they carried him out of the city and stoned him to death with stones.
[14] Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, “Naboth has been stoned and is dead.”
[15] When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, Jezebel said to Ahab, “Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead.”
[16] When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.
[17] Yahweh’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
[18] “Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who dwells in Samaria. Behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it.
[19] You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “Have you killed and also taken possession?” ’ You shall speak to him, saying, ‘Yahweh says, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs will lick your blood, even yours.” ’ ”
[20] Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do that which is evil in Yahweh’s sight.
[21] Behold, I will bring evil on you, and will utterly sweep you away and will cut off from Ahab everyone who urinates against a wall,§ and him who is shut up and him who is left at large in Israel.
[22] I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which you have provoked me to anger, and have made Israel to sin.”
[23] Yahweh also spoke of Jezebel, saying, “The dogs will eat Jezebel by the rampart of Jezreel.
[24] The dogs will eat he who dies of Ahab in the city; and the birds of the sky will eat he who dies in the field.”
[25] But there was no one like Ahab, who sold himself to do that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.
[26] He did very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites did, whom Yahweh cast out before the children of Israel.
[27] When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes, put sackcloth on his body, fasted, lay in sackcloth, and went about despondently.
[28] Yahweh’s word came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
[29] “See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days; but I will bring the evil on his house in his son’s day.”

1 Kings 21 (KJVS)
[1] And it came to pass after H310 these things H1697, [that] Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158 had a vineyard H3754, which [was] in Jezreel H3157, hard by H681 the palace H1964 of Ahab H256 king H4428 of Samaria H8111.
[2] And Ahab H256 spake H1696 (8762) unto Naboth H5022, saying H559 (8800), Give H5414 (8798) me thy vineyard H3754, that I may have it for a garden H1588 of herbs H3419, because it [is] near H7138 unto H681 my house H1004: and I will give H5414 (8799) thee for it a better H2896 vineyard H3754 than it; [or], if it seem good H2896 to thee H5869, I will give H5414 (8799) thee the worth H4242 of it in money H3701.
[3] And Naboth H5022 said H559 (8799) to Ahab H256, The LORD H3068 forbid H2486 it me, that I should give H5414 (8800) the inheritance H5159 of my fathers H1 unto thee.
[4] And Ahab H256 came H935 (8799) into his house H1004 heavy H5620 and displeased H2198 because of the word H1697 which Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158 had spoken H1696 (8765) to him: for he had said H559 (8799), I will not give H5414 (8799) thee the inheritance H5159 of my fathers H1. And he laid him down H7901 (8799) upon his bed H4296, and turned away H5437 (8686) his face H6440, and would eat H398 (8804) no bread H3899.
[5] But Jezebel H348 his wife H802 came H935 (8799) to him, and said H1696 (8762) unto him, Why is thy spirit H7307 so sad H5620, that thou eatest H398 (8802) no bread H3899?
[6] And he said H1696 (8762) unto her, Because I spake H1696 (8762) unto Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Give H5414 (8798) me thy vineyard H3754 for money H3701; or else, if it please H2655 thee, I will give H5414 (8799) thee [another] vineyard H3754 for it: and he answered H559 (8799), I will not give H5414 (8799) thee my vineyard H3754.
[7] And Jezebel H348 his wife H802 said H559 (8799) unto him, Dost thou now govern H6213 (8799) the kingdom H4410 of Israel H3478? arise H6965 (8798), [and] eat H398 (8798) bread H3899, and let thine heart H3820 be merry H3190 (8799): I will give H5414 (8799) thee the vineyard H3754 of Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158.
[8] So she wrote H3789 (8799) letters H5612 in Ahab’s H256 name H8034, and sealed H2856 (8799) [them] with his seal H2368, and sent H7971 (8799) the letters H5612 unto the elders H2205 and to the nobles H2715 that [were] in his city H5892, dwelling H3427 (8802) with Naboth H5022.
[9] And she wrote H3789 (8799) in the letters H5612, saying H559 (8800), Proclaim H7121 (8798) a fast H6685, and set H3427 (8685) Naboth H5022 on high H7218 among the people H5971:
[10] And set H3427 (8685) two H8147 men H582, sons H1121 of Belial H1100, before him, to bear witness H5749 (8686) against him, saying H559 (8800), Thou didst blaspheme H1288 (8765) God H430 and the king H4428. And [then] carry him out H3318 (8689), and stone H5619 (8798) him, that he may die H4191 (8799).
[11] And the men H582 of his city H5892, [even] the elders H2205 and the nobles H2715 who were the inhabitants H3427 (8802) in his city H5892, did H6213 (8799) as Jezebel H348 had sent H7971 (8804) unto them, [and] as it [was] written H3789 (8803) in the letters H5612 which she had sent H7971 (8804) unto them.
[12] They proclaimed H7121 (8804) a fast H6685, and set H3427 (8689) Naboth H5022 on high H7218 among the people H5971.
[13] And there came H935 (8799) in two H8147 men H582, children H1121 of Belial H1100, and sat H3427 (8799) before him: and the men H582 of Belial H1100 witnessed H5749 (8686) against him, [even] against Naboth H5022, in the presence of the people H5971, saying H559 (8800), Naboth H5022 did blaspheme H1288 (8765) God H430 and the king H4428. Then they carried him forth H3318 (8686) out H2351 of the city H5892, and stoned H5619 (8799) him with stones H68, that he died H4191 (8799).
[14] Then they sent H7971 (8799) to Jezebel H348, saying H559 (8800), Naboth H5022 is stoned H5619 (8795), and is dead H4191 (8799).
[15] And it came to pass, when Jezebel H348 heard H8085 (8800) that Naboth H5022 was stoned H5619 (8795), and was dead H4191 (8799), that Jezebel H348 said H559 (8799) to Ahab H256, Arise H6965 (8798), take possession H3423 (8798) of the vineyard H3754 of Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158, which he refused H3985 (8765) to give H5414 (8800) thee for money H3701: for Naboth H5022 is not alive H2416, but dead H4191 (8804).
[16] And it came to pass, when Ahab H256 heard H8085 (8800) that Naboth H5022 was dead H4191 (8804), that Ahab H256 rose up H6965 (8799) to go down H3381 (8800) to the vineyard H3754 of Naboth H5022 the Jezreelite H3158, to take possession H3423 (8800) of it.
[17] And the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 came to Elijah H452 the Tishbite H8664, saying H559 (8800),
[18] Arise H6965 (8798), go down H3381 (8798) to meet H7125 (8800) Ahab H256 king H4428 of Israel H3478, which [is] in Samaria H8111: behold, [he is] in the vineyard H3754 of Naboth H5022, whither he is gone down H3381 (8804) to possess H3423 (8800) it.
[19] And thou shalt speak H1696 (8765) unto him, saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, Hast thou killed H7523 (8804), and also taken possession H3423 (8804)? And thou shalt speak H1696 (8765) unto him, saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, In the place H4725 where dogs H3611 licked H3952 (8804) the blood H1818 of Naboth H5022 shall dogs H3611 lick H3952 (8799) thy blood H1818, even thine.
[20] And Ahab H256 said H559 (8799) to Elijah H452, Hast thou found H4672 (8804) me, O mine enemy H341 (8802)? And he answered H559 (8799), I have found H4672 (8804) [thee]: because thou hast sold H4376 (8692) thyself to work H6213 (8800) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068.
[21] Behold, I will bring H935 (8688) evil H7451 upon thee, and will take away H1197 (8765) thy posterity H310, and will cut off H3772 (8689) from Ahab H256 him that pisseth H8366 (8688) against the wall H7023, and him that is shut up H6113 (8803) and left H5800 (8803) in Israel H3478,
[22] And will make H5414 (8804) thine house H1004 like the house H1004 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028, and like the house H1004 of Baasha H1201 the son H1121 of Ahijah H281, for the provocation H3708 wherewith thou hast provoked [me] to anger H3707 (8689), and made Israel H3478 to sin H2398 (8686).
[23] And of Jezebel H348 also spake H1696 (8765) the LORD H3068, saying H559 (8800), The dogs H3611 shall eat H398 (8799) Jezebel H348 by the wall H2426 of Jezreel H3157.
[24] Him that dieth H4191 (8801) of Ahab H256 in the city H5892 the dogs H3611 shall eat H398 (8799); and him that dieth H4191 (8801) in the field H7704 shall the fowls H5775 of the air H8064 eat H398 (8799).
[25] But there was none like unto Ahab H256, which did sell H4376 (8694) himself to work H6213 (8800) wickedness H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068, whom Jezebel H348 his wife H802 stirred up H5496 (8689).
[26] And he did very H3966 abominably H8581 (8686) in following H3212 (8800) H310 idols H1544, according to all [things] as did H6213 (8804) the Amorites H567, whom the LORD H3068 cast out H3423 (8689) before H6440 the children H1121 of Israel H3478.
[27] And it came to pass, when Ahab H256 heard H8085 (8800) those words H1697, that he rent H7167 (8799) his clothes H899, and put H7760 (8799) sackcloth H8242 upon his flesh H1320, and fasted H6684 (8799), and lay H7901 (8799) in sackcloth H8242, and went H1980 (8762) softly H328.
[28] And the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 came to Elijah H452 the Tishbite H8664, saying H559 (8800),
[29] Seest H7200 (8804) thou how Ahab H256 humbleth H3665 (8738) himself before H6440 me? because H3282 he humbleth H3665 (8738) himself before H6440 me, I will not bring H935 (8686) the evil H7451 in his days H3117: [but] in his son’s H1121 days H3117 will I bring H935 (8686) the evil H7451 upon his house H1004.
Young’s Literal Translation
1 Kings 21 (YLT)
[1] And it cometh to pass, after these things, a vineyard hath been to Naboth the Jezreelite, that is in Jezreel, near the palace of Ahab king of Samaria,
[2] and Ahab speaketh unto Naboth, saying, ‘Give to me thy vineyard, and it is to me for a garden of green herbs, for it is near by my house, and I give to thee in its stead a better vineyard than it; if good in thine eyes, I give to thee silver-its price.’
[3] And Naboth saith unto Ahab, ‘Far be it from me, by Jehovah, my giving the inheritance of my fathers to thee;’
[4] and Ahab cometh in unto his house, sulky and wroth, because of the word that Naboth the Jezreelite hath spoken unto him when he saith, ‘I do not give to thee the inheritance of my fathers,’ and he lieth down on his bed, and turneth round his face, and hath not eaten bread.
[5] And Jezebel his wife cometh in unto him, and speaketh unto him, ‘What is this?-thy spirit sulky, and thou art not eating bread!’
[6] And he saith unto her, ‘Because I speak unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and say to him, Give to me thy vineyard for money, or if thou desire, I give to thee a vineyard in its stead; and he saith, I do not give to thee my vineyard.’
[7] And Jezebel his wife saith unto him, ‘Thou now dost execute rule over Israel! rise, eat bread, and let thy heart be glad,-I do give to thee the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.’
[8] And she writeth letters in the name of Ahab, and sealeth with his seal, and sendeth the letters unto the elders, and unto the freemen, who are in his city, those dwelling with Naboth,
[9] and she writeth in the letters, saying, ‘Proclaim a fast, and cause Naboth to sit at the head of the people,
[10] and cause two men-sons of worthlessness-to sit over-against him, and they testify of him, saying, Thou hast blessed God and Melech; and they have brought him out, and stoned him, and he dieth.’
[11] And the men of his city, the elders and the freemen who are dwelling in his city, do as Jezebel hath sent unto them, as written in the letters that she sent unto them,
[12] they have proclaimed a fast, and caused Naboth to sit at the head of the people,
[13] and two men-sons of worthlessness-come in, and sit over-against him, and the men of worthlessness testify of him, even Naboth, before the people, saying, ‘Naboth blessed God and Melech;’ and they take him out to the outside of the city, and stone him with stones, and he dieth;
[14] and they send unto Jezebel, saying, ‘Naboth was stoned, and is dead.’
[15] And it cometh to pass, at Jezebel’s hearing that Naboth hath been stoned, and is dead, that Jezebel saith unto Ahab, ‘Rise, possess the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, that he refused to give to thee for money, for Naboth is not alive but dead.’
[16] And it cometh to pass, at Ahab’s hearing that Naboth is dead, that Ahab riseth to go down unto the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to possess it.
[17] And the word of Jehovah is unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
[18] ‘Rise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria,-lo, in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he hath gone down to possess it,
[19] and thou hast spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Hast thou murdered, and also possessed? and thou hast spoken unto him, saying, Thus said Jehovah, In the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, do the dogs lick thy blood, even thine.’
[20] And Ahab saith unto Elijah, ‘Hast thou found me, O mine enemy?’ and he saith, ‘I have found-because of thy selling thyself to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah;
[21] lo, I am bringing in unto thee evil, and have taken away thy posterity, and cut off to Ahab those sitting on the wall, and restrained, and left, in Israel,
[22] and given up thy house like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which thou hast provoked Me, and dost cause Israel to sin.
[23] ‘And also of Jezebel hath Jehovah spoken, saying, The dogs do eat Jezebel in the bulwark of Jezreel;
[24] him who dieth of Ahab in a city do the dogs eat, and him who dieth in a field do fowl of the heavens eat;
[25] surely there hath none been like Ahab, who sold himself to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, whom Jezebel his wife hath moved,
[26] and he doth very abominably to go after the idols, according to all that the Amorite did whom Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel.’
[27] And it cometh to pass, at Ahab’s hearing these words, that he rendeth his garments, and putteth sackcloth on his flesh, and fasteth, and lieth in sackcloth, and goeth gently.
[28] And the word of Jehovah is unto Elijah the Tishbite, saying,
[29] ‘Hast thou seen that Ahab hath been humbled before Me? because that he hath been humbled before Me, I bring not in the evil in his days; in the days of his son I bring in the evil on his house.’
