Moses diligently inquired about the goat of the sin offering, and, behold,^§ it was burned. He was angry with Eleazar and with Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left, saying,

Leviticus 10:16 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

“Why haven’t you eaten the sin offering in the place of the sanctuary, since it is most holy, and he has given it to you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Yahweh?

Wherefore have ye not eaten H398 (QalPerf) the sin offering H2403 in the holy H6944 place, H4725 seeing it is most H6944 holy, H6944 and God hath given H5414 (QalPerf) it you to bear H5375 (QalInf) the iniquity H5771 of the congregation, H5712 to make atonement H3722 (PielInf) for them before H6440 the Lord? δια τι ουκ εφαγετε το περι της αμαρτιας εν τοπω αγιω οτι γαρ αγια αγιων εστιν τουτο εδωκεν υμιν φαγειν ινα αφελητε την αμαρτιαν της συναγωγης και εξιλασησθε περι αυτων εναντι κυριου

Aaron spoke to Moses, “Behold, today they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before Yahweh; and such things as these have happened to me. If I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been pleasing in Yahweh’s sight?”

And Aaron H175 said H1696 (PielImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Behold, this day H3117 have they offered H7126 (HiphPerf) their sin offering H2403 and their burnt offering H5930 before H6440 the Lord; H3068 and such things have befallen H7122 (QalImpf) me: and if I had eaten H398 (QalPerf) the sin offering H2403 to day, H3117 should it have been accepted H3190 (QalImpf) in the sight H5869 of the Lord? Leviticus 16:9 Heb. went up

“Aaron shall present the bull of the sin offering, which is for himself, and shall make atonement for himself and for his house, and shall kill the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.

Leviticus 16:16 Heb. dwelleth

Leviticus 16:21 Heb. a man of opportunity

“This shall be an everlasting statute for you, to make atonement for the children of Israel once in the year because of all their sins.” It was done as Yahweh commanded Moses.

και εσται τουτο υμιν νομιμον αιωνιον εξιλασκεσθαι περι των υιων ισραηλ απο πασων των αμαρτιων αυτων απαξ του ενιαυτου ποιηθησεται καθαπερ συνεταξεν κυριος τω μωυση

The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before Yahweh for his sin which he has committed; and the sin which he has committed shall be forgiven him.

“ ‘If you in spite of these things will not listen to me, then I will chastise you seven times more for your sins.

“ ‘If you walk contrary to me, and won’t listen to me, then I will bring seven times more plagues on you according to your sins.

And if ye walk H3212 (QalImpf) contrary H7147 unto me,^§ and will H14 (QalImpf) not hearken H8085 (QalInf) unto me; I will bring H3254 seven times H7651 more H3254 (QalPerf) plagues H4347 upon you according to your sins. H2403

Leviticus 26:21 Or, at all adventures with me, etc. so verse 24

και εαν μετα ταυτα πορευησθε πλαγιοι και μη βουλησθε υπακουειν μου προσθησω υμιν πληγας επτα κατα τας αμαρτιας υμων

then I will also walk contrary to you; and I will strike you, even I, seven times for your sins.

“Speak to the children of Israel: ‘When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit, so as to trespass against Yahweh, and that soul is guilty,

πασαι αι βοες εις ολοκαυτωσιν μοσχοι δωδεκα κριοι δωδεκα αμνοι ενιαυσιοι δωδεκα και αι θυσιαι αυτων και αι σπονδαι αυτων και χιμαροι εξ αιγων δωδεκα περι αμαρτιας

You shall do this to them to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of cleansing on them, let them shave their whole bodies with a razor, let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves.
