It shall be on the day when you shall pass over the Jordan to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, that you shall set yourself up great stones, and coat them with plaster.

And it shall be on the day H3117 when ye shall pass over H5674 (QalImpf) Jordan H3383 unto the land H776 which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 (QalActPtc) thee, that thou shalt set thee up H6965 (HiphPerf) great H1419 stones, H68 and plaister H7874 (QalPerf) them with plaister: H7875

και εσται η αν ημερα διαβητε τον ιορδανην εις την γην ην κυριος ο θεος σου διδωσιν σοι και στησεις σεαυτω λιθους μεγαλους και κονιασεις αυτους κονια

You shall write on them all the words of this law, when you have passed over, that you may go in to the land which Yahweh your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has promised you.

And thou shalt write H3789 (QalPerf) upon them all the words H1697 of this law, H8451 when thou art passed over, H5674 (QalInf) that thou mayest go in H935 (QalImpf) unto the land H776 which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 giveth H5414 (QalActPtc) thee, a land H776 that floweth H2100 (QalActPtc) with milk H2461 and honey; H1706 as the Lord H3068 God H430 of thy fathers H1 hath promised H1696 (PielPerf) thee.

και γραψεις επι των λιθων παντας τους λογους του νομου τουτου ως αν διαβητε τον ιορδανην ηνικα εαν εισελθητε εις την γην ην κυριος ο θεος των πατερων σου διδωσιν σοι γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι ον τροπον ειπεν κυριος ο θεος των πατερων σου σοι

It shall be, when you have crossed over the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones, which I command you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall coat them with plaster.

Therefore it shall be when ye be gone over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan, H3383 [that] ye shall set up H6965 (HiphImpf) these stones, H68 which I command H6680 (PielPtc) you this day, H3117 in mount H2022 Ebal, H5858 and thou shalt plaister H7875 them with plaister. H7874 (QalPerf)

“These shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have crossed over the Jordan: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.

These shall stand H5975 (QalImpf) upon mount H2022 Gerizim H1630 to bless H1288 (PielInf) the people, H5971 when ye are come over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan; H3383 Simeon, H8095 and Levi, H3878 and Judah, H3063 and Issachar, H3485 and Joseph, H3130 and Benjamin: H1144

ουτοι στησονται ευλογειν τον λαον εν ορει γαριζιν διαβαντες τον ιορδανην συμεων λευι ιουδας ισσαχαρ ιωσηφ και βενιαμιν

that you may enter into the covenant of Yahweh your God, and into his oath, which Yahweh your God makes with you today,

That thou shouldest enter H5674 (QalInf) into covenant H1285 with the Lord H3068 thy God, H430 and into his oath, H423 which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 maketh H3772 (QalActPtc) with thee this day: H3117

(for you know how we lived in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the middle of the nations through which you passed;

^[29:15] οτι υμεις οιδατε ως κατωκησαμεν εν γη αιγυπτω και παρηλθομεν εν μεσω των εθνων ους παρηλθετε

Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who will go over the sea for us, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?”

Neither [is] it beyond H5676 the sea, H3220 that thou shouldest say, H559 (QalInf) Who shall go H5674 (QalImpf) over H5676 the sea H3220 for us, and bring H3947 (QalImpf) it unto us, that we may hear H8085 (HiphImpf) it, and do H6213 (QalImpf) it?

ουδε περαν της θαλασσης εστιν λεγων τις διαπερασει ημιν εις το περαν της θαλασσης και λημψεται ημιν αυτην και ακουστην ημιν ποιησει αυτην και ποιησομεν

I declare to you today that you will surely perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you pass over the Jordan to go in to possess it.

I denounce H5046 (HiphPerf) unto you this day, H3117 that ye shall surely H6 (QalInf) perish, H6 (QalImpf) [and that] ye shall not prolong H748 (HiphImpf) [your] days H3117 upon the land, H127 whither thou passest over H5674 (QalActPtc) Jordan H3383 to go H935 (QalInf) to possess H3423 (QalInf) it.

αναγγελλω σοι σημερον οτι απωλεια απολεισθε και ου μη πολυημεροι γενησθε επι της γης ης κυριος ο θεος σου διδωσιν σοι εις ην υμεις διαβαινετε τον ιορδανην εκει κληρονομησαι αυτην

He said to them, “I am one hundred twenty years old today. I can no more go out and come in. Yahweh has said to me, ‘You shall not go over this Jordan.’

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, I [am] an hundred H3967 and twenty H6242 years H8141 old H1121 this day; H3117 I can H3201 (QalImpf) no more go out H3318 (QalInf) and come in: H935 (QalInf) also the Lord H3068 hath said H559 (QalPerf) unto me, Thou shalt not go over H5674 (QalImpf) this Jordan. Yahweh your God himself will go over before you. He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. Joshua will go over before you, as Yahweh has spoken.

The Lord H3068 thy God, H430 he will go over H5674 (QalActPtc) before H6440 thee, [and] he will destroy H8045 (HiphImpf) these nations H1471 from before H6440 thee, and thou shalt possess H3423 (QalPerf) them: [and] Joshua, H3091 he shall go over H5674 (QalActPtc) before H6440 thee, as the Lord H3068 hath said. H1696 (PielPerf)

κυριος ο θεος σου ο προπορευομενος προ προσωπου σου αυτος εξολεθρευσει τα εθνη ταυτα απο προσωπου σου και κατακληρονομησεις αυτους και ιησους ο προπορευομενος προ προσωπου σου καθα ελαλησεν κυριος

and that their children, who have not known, may hear and learn to fear Yahweh your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over the Jordan to possess it.”

And [that] their children, H1121 which have not known H3045 (QalPerf) [any thing], may hear, H8085 (QalImpf) and learn H3925 (QalPerf) to fear H3372 (QalInf) the Lord H3068 your God, H430 as long as H3117 ye live H2416 in the land H127 whither ye go over H5674 (QalActPtc) Jordan H3383 to possess H3423 (QalInf) it.

και οι υιοι αυτων οι ουκ οιδασιν ακουσονται και μαθησονται φοβεισθαι κυριον τον θεον υμων πασας τας ημερας οσας αυτοι ζωσιν επι της γης εις ην υμεις διαβαινετε τον ιορδανην εκει κληρονομησαι αυτην

For it is no vain thing for you, because it is your life, and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Jordan to possess it.”

For it [is] not a vain H7386 thing H1697 for you; because it [is] your life: H2416 and through this thing H1697 ye shall prolong H748 (HiphImpf) [your] days H3117 in the land, H127 whither ye go over H5674 (QalActPtc) Jordan H3383 to possess H3423 (QalInf) it.

οτι ουχι λογος κενος ουτος υμιν οτι αυτη η ζωη υμων και ενεκεν του λογου τουτου μακροημερευσετε επι της γης εις ην υμεις διαβαινετε τον ιορδανην εκει κληρονομησαι αυτην

Yahweh said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, This [is] the land H776 which I sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto Abraham, H85 unto Isaac, H3327 and unto Jacob, H3290 saying, H559 (QalInf) I will give H5414 (QalImpf) it unto thy seed: H2233 I have caused thee to see H7200 (HiphPerf) [it] with thine eyes, H5869 but thou shalt not go over H5674 (QalImpf) thither.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην αυτη η γη ην ωμοσα αβρααμ και ισαακ και ιακωβ λεγων τω σπερματι υμων δωσω αυτην και εδειξα αυτην τοις οφθαλμοις σου και εκει ουκ εισελευση

“Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go across this Jordan, you and all these people, to the land which I am giving to them, even to the children of Israel.

μωυσης ο θεραπων μου τετελευτηκεν νυν ουν αναστας διαβηθι τον ιορδανην συ και πας ο λαος ουτος εις την γην ην εγω διδωμι αυτοις

“Pass through the middle of the camp, and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare food; for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess.’ ”

Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but you shall pass over before your brothers armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them

αι γυναικες υμων και τα παιδια υμων και τα κτηνη υμων κατοικειτωσαν εν τη γη η εδωκεν υμιν υμεις δε διαβησεσθε ευζωνοι προτεροι των αδελφων υμων πας ο ισχυων και συμμαχησετε αυτοις

Then the two men returned, descended from the mountain, crossed the river, and came to Joshua the son of Nun. They told him all that had happened to them.

So the two H8147 men H582 returned, H7725 (QalImpf) and descended H3381 (QalImpf) from the mountain, H2022 and passed over, H5674 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) to Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun, H5126 and told H5608 (PielImpf) him all [things] that befell H4672 (QalActPtc) them:

Joshua got up early in the morning; and they moved from Shittim and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel. They camped there before they crossed over.

και ωρθρισεν ιησους το πρωι και απηραν εκ σαττιν και ηλθοσαν εως του ιορδανου και κατελυσαν εκει προ του διαβηναι

After three days, the officers went through the middle of the camp;

And it came to pass after H7097 three H7969 days, H3117 that the officers H7860 (QalActPtc) went H5674 (QalImpf) through H7130 the host; H4264

και εγενετο μετα τρεις ημερας διηλθον οι γραμματεις δια της παρεμβολης

Yet there shall be a space between you and it of about two thousand cubits° by measure—don’t come closer to it—that you may know the way by which you must go; for you have not passed this way before.”

Joshua 3:4 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters, so 2,000 cubits is about 920 meters.

Yet there shall be a space H7350 between you and it, about two thousand H505 cubits H520 by measure: H4060 come not near H7126 (QalImpf) unto it, that ye may know H3045 (QalImpf) the way H1870 by which ye must go: H3212 (QalImpf) for ye have not passed H5674 (QalPerf) [this] way H1870 heretofore. αλλα μακραν εστω ανα μεσον υμων και εκεινης οσον δισχιλιους πηχεις στησεσθε μη προσεγγισητε αυτη ιν επιστησθε την οδον ην πορευεσθε αυτην ου γαρ πεπορευσθε την οδον απ εχθες και τριτης ημερας

Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and cross over before the people.” They took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

And Joshua H3091 spake H559 (QalImpf) unto the priests, H3548 saying, H559 (QalInf) Take up H5375 (QalImpv) the ark H727 of the covenant, H1285 and pass over H5674 (QalImpv) before H6440 the people. και ειπεν ιησους τοις ιερευσιν αρατε την κιβωτον της διαθηκης κυριου και προπορευεσθε του λαου και ηραν οι ιερεις την κιβωτον της διαθηκης κυριου και επορευοντο εμπροσθεν του λαου

Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord^§ of all the earth passes over before you into the Jordan.

When the people moved from their tents to pass over the Jordan, the priests who bore the ark of the covenant being before the people,

the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off. Then the people passed over near Jericho.

και εστη τα υδατα τα καταβαινοντα ανωθεν εστη πηγμα εν αφεστηκος μακραν σφοδρα σφοδρως εως μερους καριαθιαριμ το δε καταβαινον κατεβη εις την θαλασσαν αραβα θαλασσαν αλος εως εις το τελος εξελιπεν και ο λαος ειστηκει απεναντι ιεριχω

The priests who bore the ark of Yahweh’s covenant stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the nation had passed completely over the Jordan.

And the priests H3548 that bare H5375 (QalActPtc) the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the Lord H3068 stood H5975 (QalImpf) firm H3559 (HiphInf) on dry ground H2724 in the midst H8432 of Jordan, H3383 and all the Israelites H3478 passed over H5674 (QalActPtc) on dry ground, H2724 until all the people H1471 were passed H5674 clean H8552 (QalPerf) over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan. και εστησαν οι ιερεις οι αιροντες την κιβωτον της διαθηκης κυριου επι ξηρας εν μεσω του ιορδανου και παντες οι υιοι ισραηλ διεβαινον δια ξηρας εως συνετελεσεν πας ο λαος διαβαινων τον ιορδανην

When all the nation had completely crossed over the Jordan, Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

And it came to pass, when all the people H1471 were clean H8552 (QalPerf) passed over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan, H3383 that the Lord H3068 spake H559 (QalImpf) unto Joshua, H3091 saying, H559 (QalInf)

και επει συνετελεσεν πας ο λαος διαβαινων τον ιορδανην και ειπεν κυριος τω ιησοι λεγων

and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you’ll camp tonight.’ ”

συνταξον αυτοις λεγων ανελεσθε εκ μεσου του ιορδανου ετοιμους δωδεκα λιθους και τουτους διακομισαντες αμα υμιν αυτοις θετε αυτους εν τη στρατοπεδεια υμων ου εαν παρεμβαλητε εκει την νυκτα

Joshua said to them, “Cross before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

And Joshua H3091 said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Pass over H5674 (QalImpv) before H6440 the ark H727 of the Lord H3068 your God H430 into the midst H8432 of Jordan, H3383 and take ye up H7311 (HiphImpv) every H259 man H376 of you a stone H68 upon his shoulder, H7926 according unto the number H4557 of the tribes H7626 of the children H1121 of Israel: H3478

ειπεν αυτοις προσαγαγετε εμπροσθεν μου προ προσωπου κυριου εις μεσον του ιορδανου και ανελομενος εκειθεν εκαστος λιθον αρατω επι των ωμων αυτου κατα τον αριθμον των δωδεκα φυλων του ισραηλ

then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’ ”

Then ye shall answer H559 (QalPerf) them, That the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 were cut off H3772 (NiphPerf) before H6440 the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the Lord; H3068 when it passed over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan, H3383 the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 were cut off: H3772 (NiphPerf) and these stones H68 shall be for a memorial H2146 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 for H5704 ever. και συ δηλωσεις τω υιω σου λεγων οτι εξελιπεν ο ιορδανης ποταμος απο προσωπου κιβωτου διαθηκης κυριου πασης της γης ως διεβαινεν αυτον και εσονται οι λιθοι ουτοι υμιν μνημοσυνον τοις υιοις ισραηλ εως του αιωνος

The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they camped, and laid them down there.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 (QalImpf) so as Joshua H3091 commanded, H6680 (PielPerf) and took up H5375 (QalImpf) twelve H8147 H6240 stones H68 out of the midst H8432 of Jordan, H3383 as the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto Joshua, H3091 according to the number H4557 of the tribes H7626 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and carried them over H5674 (HiphImpf) with them unto the place where they lodged, H4411 and laid them down H3240 (HiphImpf) there.

For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.

For the priests H3548 which bare H5375 (QalActPtc) the ark H727 stood H5975 (QalActPtc) in the midst H8432 of Jordan, H3383 until every thing H1697 was finished H8552 (QalInf) that the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) Joshua H3091 to speak H1696 (PielInf) unto the people, H5971 according to all that Moses H4872 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) Joshua: H3091 and the people H5971 hasted H4116 (PielImpf) and passed over. ειστηκεισαν δε οι ιερεις οι αιροντες την κιβωτον της διαθηκης εν τω ιορδανη εως ου συνετελεσεν ιησους παντα α ενετειλατο κυριος αναγγειλαι τω λαω και εσπευσεν ο λαος και διεβησαν

When all the people had completely crossed over, Yahweh’s ark crossed over with the priests in the presence of the people.

And it came to pass, when all the people H5971 were clean H8552 (QalPerf) passed over, H5674 (QalInf) that the ark H727 of the Lord H3068 passed over, H5674 (QalImpf) and the priests, H3548 in the presence H6440 of the people. H5971

και εγενετο ως συνετελεσεν πας ο λαος διαβηναι και διεβη η κιβωτος της διαθηκης κυριου και οι λιθοι εμπροσθεν αυτων

The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.

And the children H1121 of Reuben, H7205 and the children H1121 of Gad, H1410 and half H2677 the tribe H7626 of Manasseh, H4519 passed over H5674 (QalImpf) armed H2571 before H6440 the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 as Moses H4872 spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto them:

και διεβησαν οι υιοι ρουβην και οι υιοι γαδ και οι ημισεις φυλης μανασση διεσκευασμενοι εμπροσθεν των υιων ισραηλ καθαπερ ενετειλατο αυτοις μωυσης

About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war, passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

τετρακισμυριοι ευζωνοι εις μαχην διεβησαν εναντιον κυριου εις πολεμον προς την ιεριχω πολιν

Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over,

αποξηραναντος κυριου του θεου ημων το υδωρ του ιορδανου εκ του εμπροσθεν αυτων μεχρι ου διεβησαν καθαπερ εποιησεν κυριος ο θεος ημων την ερυθραν θαλασσαν ην απεξηρανεν κυριος ο θεος ημων εμπροσθεν ημων εως παρηλθομεν

When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.

και ειπεν ιησους δεομαι κυριε ινα τι διεβιβασεν ο παις σου τον λαον τουτον τον ιορδανην παραδουναι αυτον τω αμορραιω απολεσαι ημας και ει κατεμειναμεν και κατωκισθημεν παρα τον ιορδανην

Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.

ημαρτηκεν ο λαος και παρεβη την διαθηκην ην διεθεμην προς αυτους και κλεψαντες απο του αναθεματος ενεβαλον εις τα σκευη αυτων

It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’ ”

And it shall be, [that] he that is taken H3920 (NiphPtc) with the accursed thing H2764 shall be burnt H8313 (NiphImpf) with fire, H784 he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed H5674 (QalPerf) the covenant H1285 of the Lord, H3068 and because he hath wrought H6213 (QalPerf) folly H5039 in Israel. και ος αν ενδειχθη κατακαυθησεται εν πυρι και παντα οσα εστιν αυτω οτι παρεβη την διαθηκην κυριου και εποιησεν ανομημα εν ισραηλ
