Joshua 5 (WEBP)
[1] When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.
[2] At that time, Yahweh said to Joshua, “Make flint knives, and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.”
[3] Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.
[4] This is the reason Joshua circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way, after they came out of Egypt.
[5] For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.
[6] For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to Yahweh’s voice. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
[7] Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.
[8] When they were done circumcising the whole nation, they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed.
[9] Yahweh said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal° to this day.
[10] The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.
[11] They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.
[12] The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
[13] When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our enemies?”
[14] He said, “No; but I have come now as commander of Yahweh’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and asked him, “What does my lord say to his servant?”
[15] The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.
Joshua 5:9 “Gilgal” sounds like the Hebrew for “roll.”

Joshua 5 (KJVS)
[1] And it came to pass, when all the kings H4428 of the Amorites H567, which [were] on the side H5676 of Jordan H3383 westward H3220, and all the kings H4428 of the Canaanites H3669, which [were] by the sea H3220, heard H8085 (8800) that the LORD H3068 had dried up H3001 (8689) the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 from before H6440 the children H1121 of Israel H3478, until we were passed over H5674 (8800), that their heart H3824 melted H4549 (8735), neither was there spirit H7307 in them any more, because H6440 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478.
[2] At that time H6256 the LORD H3068 said H559 (8804) unto Joshua H3091, Make H6213 (8798) thee sharp H6697 knives H2719, and circumcise H4135 (8798) again H7725 (8798) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 the second time H8145.
[3] And Joshua H3091 made H6213 (8799) him sharp H6697 knives H2719, and circumcised H4135 (8799) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 at the hill H1389 of the foreskins H6190.
[4] And this [is] the cause H1697 why Joshua H3091 did circumcise H4135 (8804): All the people H5971 that came out H3318 (8802) of Egypt H4714, [that were] males H2145, [even] all the men H582 of war H4421, died H4191 (8804) in the wilderness H4057 by the way H1870, after they came out H3318 (8800) of Egypt H4714.
[5] Now H3588 all the people H5971 that came out H3318 (8802) were circumcised H4135 (8803): but all the people H5971 [that were] born H3209 in the wilderness H4057 by the way H1870 as they came forth H3318 (8800) out of Egypt H4714, [them] they had not circumcised H4135 (8804).
[6] For the children H1121 of Israel H3478 walked H1980 (8804) forty H705 years H8141 in the wilderness H4057, till all the people H1471 [that were] men H582 of war H4421, which came out H3318 (8802) of Egypt H4714, were consumed H8552 (8800), because they obeyed H8085 (8804) not the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068: unto whom the LORD H3068 sware H7650 (8738) that he would not shew H7200 (8687) them the land H776, which the LORD H3068 sware H7650 (8738) unto their fathers H1 that he would give H5414 (8800) us, a land H776 that floweth H2100 (8802) with milk H2461 and honey H1706.
[7] And their children H1121, [whom] he raised up H6965 (8689) in their stead, them Joshua H3091 circumcised H4135 (8804): for they were uncircumcised H6189, because they had not circumcised H4135 (8804) them by the way H1870.
[8] And it came to pass, when they had done H8552 (8804) circumcising H4135 (8736) all the people H1471, that they abode H3427 (8799) in their places in the camp H4264, till they were whole H2421 (8800).
[9] And the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799) unto Joshua H3091, This day H3117 have I rolled away H1556 (8804) the reproach H2781 of Egypt H4714 from off you. Wherefore the name H8034 of the place H4725 is called H7121 (8799) Gilgal H1537 unto this day H3117.
[10] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 encamped H2583 (8799) in Gilgal H1537, and kept H6213 (8799) the passover H6453 on the fourteenth H702 H6240 day H3117 of the month H2320 at even H6153 in the plains H6160 of Jericho H3405.
[11] And they did eat H398 (8799) of the old corn H5669 of the land H776 on the morrow H4283 after the passover H6453, unleavened cakes H4682, and parched H7033 (8803) [corn] in the selfsame H6106 day H3117.
[12] And the manna H4478 ceased H7673 (8799) on the morrow H4283 after they had eaten H398 (8800) of the old corn H5669 of the land H776; neither had the children H1121 of Israel H3478 manna H4478 any more; but they did eat H398 (8799) of the fruit H8393 of the land H776 of Canaan H3667 that year H8141.
[13] And it came to pass, when Joshua H3091 was by Jericho H3405, that he lifted up H5375 (8799) his eyes H5869 and looked H7200 (8799), and, behold, there stood H5975 (8802) a man H376 over against him with his sword H2719 drawn H8025 (8803) in his hand H3027: and Joshua H3091 went H3212 (8799) unto him, and said H559 (8799) unto him, [Art] thou for us, or for our adversaries H6862?
[14] And he said H559 (8799), Nay; but [as] captain H8269 of the host H6635 of the LORD H3068 am I now come H935 (8804). And Joshua H3091 fell H5307 (8799) on his face H6440 to the earth H776, and did worship H7812 (8691), and said H559 (8799) unto him, What saith H1696 (8764) my lord H113 unto his servant H5650?
[15] And the captain H8269 of the LORD’S H3068 host H6635 said H559 (8799) unto Joshua H3091, Loose H5394 (8798) thy shoe H5275 from off thy foot H7272; for the place H4725 whereon thou standest H5975 (8802) [is] holy H6944. And Joshua H3091 did H6213 (8799) so.

Joshua 5 (YLT)
[1] And it cometh to pass when all the kings of the Amorite which are beyond the Jordan, towards the sea, and all the kings of the Canaanite which are by the sea, hear how that Jehovah hath dried up the waters of the Jordan at the presence of the sons of Israel till their passing over, that their heart is melted, and there hath not been in them any more spirit because of the presence of the sons of Israel.
[2] At that time said Jehovah unto Joshua, ‘Make for thee knives of flint, and turn back, circumcise the sons of Israel a second time;’
[3] and Joshua maketh for him knives of flint, and circumciseth the sons of Israel at the height of the foreskins.
[4] And this is the thing for which Joshua circumciseth them: all the people who are coming out of Egypt, who are males, all the men of war have died in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out of Egypt,
[5] for all the people who are coming out were circumcised, and all the people who are born in the wilderness, in the way, in their coming out from Egypt, they have not circumcised;
[6] for forty years have the sons of Israel gone in the wilderness, till all the nation of the men of war who are coming out of Egypt, who hearkened not to the voice of Jehovah, to whom Jehovah hath sworn not to show them the land which Jehovah sware to their fathers to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey, are consumed;
[7] and their sons He raised up in their stead, them hath Joshua circumcised, for they have been uncircumcised, for they have not circumcised them in the way.
[8] And it cometh to pass when all the nation have completed to be circumcised, that they abide in their places in the camp till their recovering;
[9] and Jehovah saith unto Joshua, ‘To-day I have rolled the reproach of Egypt from off you;’ and one calleth the name of that place Gilgal unto this day.
[10] And the sons of Israel encamp in Gilgal, and make the passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at evening, in the plains of Jericho;
[11] and they eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow of the passover, unleavened things and roasted corn, in this self-same day;
[12] and the manna doth cease on the morrow in their eating of the old corn of the land, and there hath been no more manna to the sons of Israel, and they eat of the increase of the land of Canaan in that year.
[13] And it cometh to pass in Joshua’s being by Jericho, that he lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, one standing over-against him, and his drawn sword in his hand, and Joshua goeth unto him, and saith to him, ‘Art thou for us or for our adversaries?’
[14] And He saith, ‘No, for I am Prince of Jehovah’s host; now I have come;’ and Joshua falleth on his face to the earth, and doth obeisance, and saith to Him, ‘What is my Lord speaking unto His servant?’
[15] And the Prince of Jehovah’s host saith unto Joshua, ‘Cast off thy shoe from off thy foot, for the place on which thou art standing is holy;’ and Joshua doth so;
