Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan,

And also all the Jews who are in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who are in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon hath given a remnant to Judah, and that he hath appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,

then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered very much wine and summer fruits.

and all the Jews from all the places whither they have been driven, turn back and enter the land of Judah, unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit-very much.

Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

Then arose H6965 (QalImpf) Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 and the ten H6235 men H582 that were with him, and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 with the sword, H2719 and slew H4191 (HiphImpf) him, whom the king H4428 of Babylon H894 had made governor H6485 (HiphPerf) over the land. And Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldean men of war who were found there.

Ishmael H3458 also slew H5221 (HiphPerf) all the Jews H3064 that were with him, [even] with Gedaliah, H1436 at Mizpah, H4709 and the Chaldeans H3778 that were found H4672 (NiphPerf) there, [and] the men H582 of war. H4421

And all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there-the men of war-hath Ishmael smitten.

Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (this was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

And the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel-it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

Then Ishmael carried away captive all of the people who were left in Mizpah, even the king’s daughters, and all the people who remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam. Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

And Ishmael taketh captive all the remnant of the people who are in Mizpah, the daughters of the king, and all the people who are left in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, hath committed to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, and Ishmael son of Nethaniah taketh them captive, and goeth to pass over unto the sons of Ammon.

Now when all the people who were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, then they were glad.

Now it came to pass, [that] when all the people H5971 which [were] with Ishmael H3458 saw H7200 (QalInf) Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all the captains H8269 of the forces H2428 that [were] with him, then they were glad. H8055 (QalImpf)

And it cometh to pass, when all the people who are with Ishmael see Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces who are with him, that they rejoice.

So all the people who Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

So all the people H5971 that Ishmael H3458 had carried away captive H7617 (QalPerf) from Mizpah H4709 cast about H5437 (QalImpf) and returned, H7725 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) unto Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah. H7143

And all the people whom Ishmael hath taken captive from Mizpah turn round, yea, they turn back, and go unto Johanan son of Kareah.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces who were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam—the men of war, with the women, the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces who are with him, take all the remnant of the people whom he hath brought back from Ishmael son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah-after he had smitten Gedaliah son of Ahikam-mighty ones, men of war, and women, and infants, and eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon,

They departed and lived in Geruth Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt

And they departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and dwelt in H3427 (QalImpf) the habitation H1628 of Chimham, H3643 which is by H681 Bethlehem, H1035 to go H3212 (QalInf) to enter H935 (QalInf) into Egypt, H4714

and they go and abide in the habitations of Chimham, that are near Beth-Lehem, to go to enter Egypt,

because of the Chaldeans; for they were afraid of them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon made governor over the land.

from the presence of the Chaldeans, for they have been afraid of them, for Ishmael son of Nethaniah had smitten Gedaliah son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

that Yahweh your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the things that we should do.”

That the Lord H3068 thy God H430 may shew H5046 (HiphImpf) us the way H1870 wherein we may walk, H3212 (QalImpf) and the thing H1697 that we may do. H6213 (QalImpf)

and Jehovah thy God doth declare to us the way in which we walk, and the thing that we do.’

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to Yahweh your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing Yahweh answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”

Then Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, I have heard H8085 (QalPerf) [you]; behold, I will pray H6419 (HithPtc) unto the Lord H3068 your God H430 according to your words; H1697 and it shall come to pass, [that] whatsoever thing H1697 the Lord H3068 shall answer H6030 (QalImpf) you, I will declare H5046 (HiphImpf) [it] unto you; I will keep H4513 nothing H1697 back H4513 (QalImpf) from you.

And Jeremiah the prophet saith unto them, ‘I have heard: lo, I am praying unto Jehovah your God according to your words, and it hath come to pass, the whole word that Jehovah answereth you, I declare to you-I do not withhold from you a word.’

Then they said to Jeremiah, “May Yahweh be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which Yahweh your God sends you to tell us.

Then they said H559 (QalPerf) to Jeremiah, H3414 The Lord H3068 be a true H571 and faithful H539 (NiphPtc) witness H5707 between us, if we do H6213 (QalImpf) not even according to all things H1697 for the which the Lord H3068 thy God H430 shall send H7971 (QalImpf) thee to us.

And they have said to Jeremiah, ‘Jehovah is against us for a witness true and faithful, if-according to all the word with which Jehovah thy God doth send thee unto us-we do not so.

Whether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of Yahweh our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of Yahweh our God.”

Whether [it be] good, H2896 or whether [it be] evil, H7451 we will obey H8085 (QalImpf) the voice H6963 of the Lord H3068 our God, H430 to whom we H580 send H7971 (QalActPtc) thee; that it may be well H3190 (QalImpf) with us, when we obey H8085 (QalImpf) the voice H6963 of the Lord H3068 our God. Whether good or evil, to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we are sending thee, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Jehovah our God.’

and said to them, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:

And said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 unto whom ye sent H7971 (QalPerf) me to present H5307 (HiphInf) your supplication H8467 before H6440 him;

and he saith unto them, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall before Him:

Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Don’t be afraid of him,’ says Yahweh, ‘for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

Be not afraid H3372 (QalImpf) of H6440 the king H4428 of Babylon, H894 of whom H6440 ye are afraid; H3373 be not afraid H3372 (QalImpf) of him, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord: H3068 for I [am] with you to save H3467 (HiphInf) you, and to deliver H5337 (HiphInf) you from his hand. H3027

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, whom ye are afraid of; be not afraid of him-an affirmation of Jehovah-for with you am I, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

saying, “No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there we will dwell;” ’

Saying, H559 (QalInf) No; but we will go H935 (QalImpf) into the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 where we shall see H7200 (QalImpf) no war, H4421 nor hear H8085 (QalImpf) the sound H6963 of the trumpet, H7782 nor have hunger H7456 (QalImpf) of bread; H3899 and there will we dwell: H3427 (QalImpf)

saying, No; but the land of Egypt we enter, that we see no war, and the sound of a trumpet do not hear, and for bread be not hungry; and there do we dwell.

then it will happen that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, will follow close behind you there in Egypt; and you will die there.

Then it shall come to pass, [that] the sword, H2719 which ye feared, H3373 shall overtake H5381 (HiphImpf) you there in the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 and the famine, H7458 whereof ye were afraid, H1672 (QalActPtc) shall follow close H1692 (QalImpf) after H310 you there in Egypt; H4714 and there ye shall die. H4191 (QalImpf)

then it hath come to pass, the sword that ye are afraid of, doth there overtake you, in the land of Egypt; and the hunger, because of which ye are sorrowful, doth there cleave after you in Egypt, and there ye die.

So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.’

So shall it be with all the men H582 that set H7760 (QalPerf) their faces H6440 to go H935 (QalInf) into Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) there; they shall die H4191 (QalImpf) by the sword, H2719 by the famine, H7458 and by the pestilence: H1698 and none of them shall remain H8300 or escape H6412 from H6440 the evil H7451 that I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) upon them.

‘Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die-by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;

For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to Yahweh your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to Yahweh our God; and according to all that Yahweh our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.’

For ye dissembled H8582 (HiphPerf) in your hearts, H5315 when ye sent H7971 (QalPerf) me unto the Lord H3068 your God, H430 saying, H559 (QalInf) Pray H6419 (HithImpv) for us unto the Lord H3068 our God; H430 and according unto all that the Lord H3068 our God H430 shall say, H559 (QalImpf) so declare H5046 (HiphImpv) unto us, and we will do H6213 (QalPerf) [it].

for ye have shewed yourselves perverse in your souls, for ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God saith, so declare to us, and we have done it;

I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed Yahweh your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.

And [now] I have this day H3117 declared H5046 (HiphImpf) [it] to you; but ye have not obeyed H8085 (QalPerf) the voice H6963 of the Lord H3068 your God, H430 nor any [thing] for the which he hath sent H7971 (QalPerf) me unto you.

and I declare to you to-day, and ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, and to anything with which He hath sent me unto you.

Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.”

Now therefore know H3045 (QalImpf) certainly H3045 (QalInf) that ye shall die H4191 (QalImpf) by the sword, H2719 by the famine, H7458 and by the pestilence, H1698 in the place H4725 whither ye desire H2654 (QalPerf) to go H935 (QalInf) [and] to sojourn. H1481 (QalInf)

And now, know ye certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye die, in the place that ye have desired to go in to sojourn there.’

When Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all the words of Yahweh their God, with which Yahweh their God had sent him to them, even all these words,

And it came to pass, [that] when Jeremiah H3414 had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of speaking H1696 (PielInf) unto all the people H5971 all the words H1697 of the Lord H3068 their God, H430 for which the Lord H3068 their God H430 had sent H7971 (QalPerf) him to them, [even] all these words, H1697

And it cometh to pass, when Jeremiah doth finish to speak unto all the people all the words of Jehovah their God, with which Jehovah their God hath sent him unto them-all these words-

But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, who had returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to live in the land of Judah—

But Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all the captains H8269 of the forces, H2428 took H3947 (QalImpf) all the remnant H7611 of Judah, H3063 that were returned H7725 (QalPerf) from all nations, H1471 whither they had been driven, H5080 (NiphPerf) to dwell H1481 (QalInf) in the land H776 of Judah; H3063

and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces, take all the remnant of Judah who have turned from all the nations whither they were driven to sojourn in the land of Judah,

“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.

Take H3947 (QalImpv) great H1419 stones H68 in thine hand, H3027 and hide H2934 (QalPerf) them in the clay H4423 in the brickkiln, H4404 which [is] at the entry H6607 of Pharaoh’s H6547 house H1004 in Tahpanhes, H8471 in the sight H5869 of the men H582 of Judah; H3064

‘Take in thy hand great stones, and thou hast hidden them, in the clay, in the brick-kiln, that is at the opening of the house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of Judah,

He will come, and will strike the land of Egypt; such as are for death will be put to death, and such as are for captivity to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.

And when he cometh, H935 (QalPerf) he shall smite H5221 (HiphPerf) the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 [and deliver] such [as are] for death H4194 to death; H4194 and such [as are] for captivity H7628 to captivity; H7628 and such [as are] for the sword H2719 to the sword. H2719

and he hath come, and smitten the land of Egypt-those who are for death to death, and those who are for captivity to captivity, and those who are for the sword to the sword.

He will also break the pillars of Beth Shemesh that is in the land of Egypt; and he will burn the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.’ ”

He shall break H7665 (PielPerf) also the images H4676 of Bethshemesh, H1053 that [is] in the land H776 of Egypt; H4714 and the houses H1004 of the gods H430 of the Egyptians H4714 shall he burn H8313 (QalImpf) with fire. H784

and he hath broken the standing pillars of the house of the sun, that is in the land of Egypt, and the houses of the gods of Egypt he doth burn with fire.’

because of their wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that they went to burn incense, to serve other gods that they didn’t know, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers.

Because H6440 of their wickedness H7451 which they have committed H6213 (QalPerf) to provoke me to anger, H3707 (HiphInf) in that they went H3212 (QalInf) to burn incense, H6999 (PielInf) [and] to serve H5647 (QalInf) other H312 gods, H430 whom they knew H3045 (QalPerf) not, [neither] they, ye, nor your fathers. H1

because of their wickedness that they have done, by provoking Me to anger, by going to make perfume, by serving other gods, that they knew not, they, ye, and your fathers.

However I sent to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, “Oh, don’t do this abominable thing that I hate.”

Howbeit I sent H7971 (QalImpf) unto you all my servants H5650 the prophets, H5030 rising early H7925 (HiphInf) and sending H7971 (QalInf) [them], saying, H559 (QalInf) Oh, do H6213 (QalImpf) not this abominable H8441 thing H1697 that I hate. H8130 (QalPerf)

‘And I send unto you all my servants, the prophets, rising early and sending, saying: I pray you, do not this abomination that I have hated-

in that you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have gone to live, that you may be cut off, and that you may be a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

In that ye provoke me unto wrath H3707 (HiphInf) with the works H4639 of your hands, H3027 burning incense H6999 (PielInf) unto other H312 gods H430 in the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 whither ye be gone H935 (QalActPtc) to dwell, H1481 (QalInf) that ye might cut yourselves off, H3772 (HiphInf) and that ye might be a curse H7045 and a reproach H2781 among all the nations H1471 of the earth? H776

by provoking Me to anger by the works of your hands, by making perfume to other gods in the land of Egypt, whither ye are going in to sojourn, so as to cut yourselves off, and so as to your being for a reviling and for a reproach among all nations of the earth?

Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, the wickedness of the kings of Judah, the wickedness of their wives, your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

Have ye forgotten H7911 (QalPerf) the wickedness H7451 of your fathers, H1 and the wickedness H7451 of the kings H4428 of Judah, H3063 and the wickedness H7451 of their wives, H802 and your own wickedness, H7451 and the wickedness H7451 of your wives, H802 which they have committed H6213 (QalPerf) in the land H776 of Judah, H3063 and in the streets H2351 of Jerusalem? H3389

‘Have ye forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah, and the wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your wives, that they have done in the land of Judah, and in streets of Jerusalem?

They are not humbled even to this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.’

They are not humbled H1792 (PualPerf) [even] unto this day, H3117 neither have they feared, H3372 (QalPerf) nor walked H1980 (QalPerf) in my law, H8451 nor in my statutes, H2708 that I set H5414 (QalPerf) before H6440 you and before H6440 your fathers. H1

They have not been humbled unto this day, nor have they been afraid, nor have they walked in My law, and in My statutes, that I have set before you and before your fathers.

I will take the remnant of Judah that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to live there, and they will all be consumed. They will fall in the land of Egypt. They will be consumed by the sword and by the famine. They will die, from the least even to the greatest, by the sword and by the famine. They will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach.

And I will take H3947 (QalPerf) the remnant H7611 of Judah, H3063 that have set H7760 (QalPerf) their faces H6440 to go H935 (QalInf) into the land H776 of Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) there, and they shall all be consumed, H8552 (QalPerf) [and] fall H5307 (QalImpf) in the land H776 of Egypt; H4714 they shall [even] be consumed H8552 (NiphImpf) by the sword H2719 [and] by the famine: H7458 they shall die, H4191 (QalImpf) from the least H6996 even unto the greatest, H1419 by the sword H2719 and by the famine: H7458 and they shall be an execration, H423 [and] an astonishment, H8047 and a curse, H7045 and a reproach. H2781

and I have taken the remnant of Judah, who have set their faces to enter the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they have all been consumed in the land of Egypt; they fall by sword, by famine they are consumed, from the least even unto the greatest, by sword and by famine they die, and they have been for an execration, for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach.

so that none of the remnant of Judah, who have gone into the land of Egypt to live there, will escape or be left to return into the land of Judah, to which they have a desire to return to dwell there; for no one will return except those who will escape.’ ”

and there is not an escaped and remaining one of the remnant of Judah, who are entering into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, even to turn back to the land of Judah, whither they are lifting up their soul to return to dwell, for they do not turn back, except those escaping.’

Thus Yahweh could no longer bear it, because of the evil of your doings and because of the abominations which you have committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation, an astonishment, and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is today.

Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is today.”

“Behold, he will come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation; for I will suddenly make them run away from it, and whoever is chosen, I will appoint him over it. For who is like me? Who will appoint me a time? Who is the shepherd who will stand before me?”
