For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David.

I said, “I will watch my ways, so that I don’t sin with my tongue.
I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me.”
[2] I was mute with silence.
I held my peace, even from good.
My sorrow was stirred.
[3] My heart was hot within me.
While I meditated, the fire burned.
I spoke with my tongue:
[4] “Yahweh, show me my end,
what is the measure of my days.
Let me know how frail I am.
[5] Behold, you have made my days hand widths.
My lifetime is as nothing before you.
Surely every man stands as a breath.”
Selah.
[6] “Surely every man walks like a shadow.
Surely they busy themselves in vain.
He heaps up, and doesn’t know who shall gather.
[7] Now, Lord, what do I wait for?
My hope is in you.
[8] Deliver me from all my transgressions.
Don’t make me the reproach of the foolish.
[9] I was mute.
I didn’t open my mouth,
because you did it.
[10] Remove your scourge away from me.
I am overcome by the blow of your hand.
[11] When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity,
you consume his wealth like a moth.
Surely every man is but a breath.”
Selah.
[12] “Hear my prayer, Yahweh, and give ear to my cry.
Don’t be silent at my tears.
For I am a stranger with you,
a foreigner, as all my fathers were.
[13] Oh spare me, that I may recover strength,
before I go away and exist no more.”

To the chief Musician,H5329(PielPtc) [even] to Jeduthun,H3038 A PsalmH4210 of David.H1732

I said,H559(QalPerf) I will take heedH8104(QalImpf) to my ways,H1870 that I sinH2398(QalInf) not with my tongue:H3956 I will keepH8104(QalImpf) my mouthH6310 with a bridle,H4269 while the wickedH7563 is before me.
[2] I was dumbH481(NiphPerf) with silence,H1747 I held my peace,H2814(HiphPerf) [even] from good;H2896 and my sorrowH3511 was stirred.H5916(NiphPerf) [3] My heartH3820 was hotH2552(QalPerf) withinH7130 me, while I was musingH1901 the fireH784 burned:H1197(QalImpf) [then]H227 spakeH1696(PielPerf) I with my tongue,H3956 [4] Lord,H3068 make me to knowH3045(HiphImpv) mine end,H7093 and the measureH4060 of my days,H3117 what it [is; that] I may knowH3045(QalImpf) how frailH2310 I [am]. [5] Behold, thou hast madeH5414(QalPerf) my daysH3117 [as] an handbreadth;H2947 and mine ageH2465 [is] as nothing before thee: verily everyH3605 manH120 at his best stateH5324(NiphPtc) [is] altogetherH3605 vanity.H1892 Selah.H5542 [6] Surely every manH376 walkethH1980(HithImpf) in a vain shew:H6754 surely they are disquietedH1993(QalImpf) in vain:H1892 he heapeth upH6651(QalImpf) [riches], and knowethH3045(QalImpf) not who shall gatherH622(QalActPtc) them. [7] And now, Lord,H136 what waitH6960(PielPerf) I for? my hopeH8431 [is] in thee. [8] DeliverH5337(HiphImpv) me from all my transgressions:H6588 makeH7760(QalImpf) me not the reproachH2781 of the foolish.H5036 [9] I was dumb,H481(NiphPerf) I openedH6605(QalImpf) not my mouth;H6310 because thou didstH6213(QalPerf) [it]. [10] RemoveH5493 thy strokeH5061 awayH5493(HiphImpv) from me: I am consumedH3615(QalPerf) by the blowH8409 of thine hand.H3027 [11] When thou with rebukesH8433 dost correctH3256(PielPerf) manH376 for iniquity,H5771 thou makest his beautyH2530(QalPasPtc) to consume awayH4529(HiphImpf) like a moth:H6211 surely every manH120 [is] vanity.H1892 Selah.H5542 [12] HearH8085(QalImpv) my prayer,H8605 O Lord,H3068 and give earH238(HiphImpv) unto my cry;H7775 hold not thy peaceH2790(QalImpf) at my tears:H1832 for I [am] a strangerH1616 with thee, [and] a sojourner,H8453 as all my fathersH1 [were]. [13] O spareH8159(HiphImpv) me, that I may recover strength,H1082(HiphImpf) before I go hence,H3212(QalImpf) and be no more.
