Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow Yahweh will do wonders among you.”

και ειπεν ιησους τω λαω αγνισασθε εις αυριον οτι αυριον ποιησει εν υμιν κυριος θαυμαστα

The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they camped, and laid them down there.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 (QalImpf) so as Joshua H3091 commanded, H6680 (PielPerf) and took up H5375 (QalImpf) twelve H8147 H6240 stones H68 out of the midst H8432 of Jordan, H3383 as the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto Joshua, H3091 according to the number H4557 of the tribes H7626 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and carried them over H5674 (HiphImpf) with them unto the place where they lodged, H4411 and laid them down H3240 (HiphImpf) there.

και εποιησαν ουτως οι υιοι ισραηλ καθοτι ενετειλατο κυριος τω ιησοι και λαβοντες δωδεκα λιθους εκ μεσου του ιορδανου καθαπερ συνεταξεν κυριος τω ιησοι εν τη συντελεια της διαβασεως των υιων ισραηλ και διεκομισαν αμα εαυτοις εις την παρεμβολην και απεθηκαν εκει

For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over,

αποξηραναντος κυριου του θεου ημων το υδωρ του ιορδανου εκ του εμπροσθεν αυτων μεχρι ου διεβησαν καθαπερ εποιησεν κυριος ο θεος ημων την ερυθραν θαλασσαν ην απεξηρανεν κυριος ο θεος ημων εμπροσθεν ημων εως παρηλθομεν

At that time, Yahweh said to Joshua, “Make flint knives, and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.”

Joshua 5:2 Or, knives of flints

υπο δε τουτον τον καιρον ειπεν κυριος τω ιησοι ποιησον σεαυτω μαχαιρας πετρινας εκ πετρας ακροτομου και καθισας περιτεμε τους υιους ισραηλ

Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

και εποιησεν ιησους μαχαιρας πετρινας ακροτομους και περιετεμεν τους υιους ισραηλ επι του καλουμενου τοπου βουνος των ακροβυστιων

The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.

The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.

και λεγει ο αρχιστρατηγος κυριου προς ιησουν λυσαι το υποδημα εκ των ποδων σου ο γαρ τοπος εφ ω συ εστηκας αγιος εστιν

All of your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days.

The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.

For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”

και ακουσας ο χαναναιος και παντες οι κατοικουντες την γην περικυκλωσουσιν ημας και εκτριψουσιν ημας απο της γης και τι ποιησεις το ονομα σου το μεγα

It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’ ”

And it shall be, that he that is taken H3920 (NiphPtc) with the accursed thing H2764 shall be burnt H8313 (NiphImpf) with fire, H784 he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed H5674 (QalPerf) the covenant H1285 of the Lord, H3068 and because he hath wrought H6213 (QalPerf) folly^§ H5039 in Israel. Joshua 7:15 Or, wickedness

και ος αν ενδειχθη κατακαυθησεται εν πυρι και παντα οσα εστιν αυτω οτι παρεβη την διαθηκην κυριου και εποιησεν ανομημα εν ισραηλ

Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”

And Joshua H3091 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Achan, H5912 My son, H1121 give, H7760 (QalImpv) I pray thee, glory H3519 to the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 and make H5414 (QalImpv) confession H8426 unto him; and tell H5046 (HiphImpv) me now what thou hast done; H6213 (QalPerf) hide H3582 (PielImpf) it not from me.

και ειπεν ιησους τω αχαρ δος δοξαν σημερον τω κυριω θεω ισραηλ και δος την εξομολογησιν και αναγγειλον μοι τι εποιησας και μη κρυψης απ εμου

Achan answered Joshua, and said, “I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.

And Achan H5912 answered H6030 (QalImpf) Joshua, H3091 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Indeed H546 I have sinned H2398 (QalPerf) against the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 and thus and thus have I done: H6213 (QalPerf)

και απεκριθη αχαρ τω ιησοι και ειπεν αληθως ημαρτον εναντιον κυριου θεου ισραηλ ουτως και ουτως εποιησα

You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except you shall take its goods and its livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”

και ποιησεις την γαι ον τροπον εποιησας την ιεριχω και τον βασιλεα αυτης και την προνομην των κτηνων προνομευσεις σεαυτω καταστησον δε σεαυτω ενεδρα τη πολει εις τα οπισω

It shall be, when you have seized the city, that you shall set the city on fire. You shall do this according to Yahweh’s word. Behold, I have commanded you.”

κατα το ρημα τουτο ποιησετε ιδου εντεταλμαι υμιν

But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,

And when the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Gibeon H1391 heard H8085 (QalPerf) what Joshua H3091 had done H6213 (QalPerf) unto Jericho H3405 and to Ai, H5857

και οι κατοικουντες γαβαων ηκουσαν παντα οσα εποιησεν κυριος τη ιεριχω και τη γαι

they also resorted to a ruse, and went and made as if they had been ambassadors, and took old sacks on their donkeys, and old, torn-up and bound up wine skins,

και εποιησαν και γε αυτοι μετα πανουργιας και ελθοντες επεσιτισαντο και ητοιμασαντο και λαβοντες σακκους παλαιους επι των ονων αυτων και ασκους οινου παλαιους και κατερρωγοτας αποδεδεμενους

They said to him, “Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of Yahweh your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt,

και ειπαν εκ γης μακροθεν σφοδρα ηκασιν οι παιδες σου εν ονοματι κυριου του θεου σου ακηκοαμεν γαρ το ονομα αυτου και οσα εποιησεν εν αιγυπτω

and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.

and all that he did H6213 (QalPerf) to the two H8147 kings H4428 of the Amorites, H567 that were beyond H5676 Jordan, H3383 to Sihon H5511 king H4428 of Heshbon, H2809 and to Og H5747 king H4428 of Bashan, H1316 which was at Ashtaroth. H6252

και οσα εποιησεν τοις βασιλευσιν των αμορραιων οι ησαν περαν του ιορδανου τω σηων βασιλει εσεβων και τω ωγ βασιλει της βασαν ος κατωκει εν ασταρωθ και εν εδραιν

Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them.

And Joshua H3091 made H6213 (QalImpf) peace H7965 with them, and made H3772 (QalImpf) a league H1285 with them, to let them live: H2421 (PielInf) and the princes H5387 of the congregation H5712 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) unto them.

και εποιησεν ιησους προς αυτους ειρηνην και διεθετο προς αυτους διαθηκην του διασωσαι αυτους και ωμοσαν αυτοις οι αρχοντες της συναγωγης

We will do this to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.”

τουτο ποιησομεν ζωγρησαι αυτους και περιποιησομεθα αυτους και ουκ εσται καθ ημων οργη δια τον ορκον ον ωμοσαμεν αυτοις

They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were certainly told how Yahweh your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

και απεκριθησαν τω ιησοι λεγοντες ανηγγελη ημιν οσα συνεταξεν κυριος ο θεος σου μωυση τω παιδι αυτου δουναι υμιν την γην ταυτην και εξολεθρευσαι ημας και παντας τους κατοικουντας επ αυτης απο προσωπου υμων και εφοβηθημεν σφοδρα περι των ψυχων ημων απο προσωπου υμων και εποιησαμεν το πραγμα τουτο

Now, behold, we are in your hand. Do to us as it seems good and right to you to do.”

και νυν ιδου ημεις υποχειριοι υμιν ως αρεσκει υμιν και ως δοκει υμιν ποιησατε ημιν

He did so to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, so that they didn’t kill them.

And so did H6213 (QalImpf) he unto them, and delivered H5337 (HiphImpf) them out of the hand H3027 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 that they slew H2026 (QalPerf) them not.

και εποιησαν αυτοις ουτως και εξειλατο αυτους ιησους εν τη ημερα εκεινη εκ χειρων υιων ισραηλ και ουκ ανειλον αυτους

Now when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them,

Now it came to pass, when Adoni-zedec H139 king H4428 of Jerusalem H3389 had heard H8085 (QalInf) how H3588 Joshua H3091 had taken H3920 (QalPerf) Ai, H5857 and had utterly destroyed H2763 (HiphImpf) it; as he had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Jericho H3405 and her king, H4428 so he had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Ai H5857 and her king; H4428 and how the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Gibeon H1391 had made peace H7999 (HiphPerf) with Israel, H3478 and were among H7130 them;

ως δε ηκουσεν αδωνιβεζεκ βασιλευς ιερουσαλημ οτι ελαβεν ιησους την γαι και εξωλεθρευσεν αυτην ον τροπον εποιησαν την ιεριχω και τον βασιλεα αυτης ουτως εποιησαν την γαι και τον βασιλεα αυτης και οτι αυτομολησαν οι κατοικουντες γαβαων προς ιησουν και προς ισραηλ

They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.

And they did H6213 (QalImpf) so, and brought forth H3318 (HiphImpf) those five H2568 kings H4428 unto him out of the cave, H4631 the king H4428 of Jerusalem, H3389 the king H4428 of Hebron, H2275 the king H4428 of Jarmuth, H3412 the king H4428 of Lachish, H3923 and the king H4428 of Eglon. H5700

και εξηγαγοσαν τους πεντε βασιλεις εκ του σπηλαιου τον βασιλεα ιερουσαλημ και τον βασιλεα χεβρων και τον βασιλεα ιεριμουθ και τον βασιλεα λαχις και τον βασιλεα οδολλαμ

Joshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

And Joshua H3091 said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Fear H3372 (QalImpf) not, nor be dismayed, H2865 (NiphImpf) be strong H2388 (QalImpv) and of good courage: H553 (QalImpv) for thus shall the Lord H3068 do H6213 (QalImpf) to all your enemies H341 (QalActPtc) against whom ye fight. H3898 (NiphPtc)

και ειπεν προς αυτους ιησους μη φοβηθητε αυτους μηδε δειλιασητε ανδριζεσθε και ισχυετε οτι ουτως ποιησει κυριος πασι τοις εχθροις υμων ους υμεις καταπολεμειτε αυτους

Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king. He utterly destroyed it and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

And that day H3117 Joshua H3091 took H3920 (QalPerf) Makkedah, H4719 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and the king H4428 thereof he utterly destroyed, H2763 (HiphPerf) them, and all the souls H5315 that were therein; he let H7604 (HiphPerf) none remain: H8300 and he did H6213 (QalImpf) to the king H4428 of Makkedah H4719 as he did H6213 (QalPerf) unto the king H4428 of Jericho. H3405

και την μακηδα ελαβοσαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη και εφονευσαν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και εξωλεθρευσαν παν εμπνεον εν αυτη και ου κατελειφθη εν αυτη ουδεις διασεσωσμενος και διαπεφευγως και εποιησαν τω βασιλει μακηδα ον τροπον εποιησαν τω βασιλει ιεριχω

Yahweh delivered it also, with its king, into the hand of Israel. He struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining in it. He did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.

and the Lord H3068 delivered H5414 (QalImpf) it also, and the king H4428 thereof, into the hand H3027 of Israel; H3478 and he smote H5221 (HiphImpf) it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and all the souls H5315 that were therein; he let H7604 (HiphPerf) none remain H8300 in it; but did H6213 (QalImpf) unto the king H4428 thereof as he did H6213 (QalPerf) unto the king H4428 of Jericho. και παρεδωκεν αυτην κυριος εις χειρας ισραηλ και ελαβον αυτην και τον βασιλεα αυτης και εφονευσαν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και παν εμπνεον εν αυτη και ου κατελειφθη εν αυτη ουδε εις διασεσωσμενος και διαπεφευγως και εποιησαν τω βασιλει αυτης ον τροπον εποιησαν τω βασιλει ιεριχω

Yahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. He took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls who were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah.

and the Lord H3068 delivered H5414 (QalImpf) Lachish H3923 into the hand H3027 of Israel, H3478 which took H3920 (QalImpf) it on the second H8145 day, H3117 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and all the souls H5315 that were therein, according to all that he had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Libnah. H3841

και παρεδωκεν κυριος την λαχις εις τας χειρας ισραηλ και ελαβεν αυτην εν τη ημερα τη δευτερα και εφονευσαν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και εξωλεθρευσαν αυτην ον τροπον εποιησαν την λεβνα

They took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.

They took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king and all its cities, and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls who were in it.

and they took H3920 (QalImpf) it, and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and the king H4428 thereof, and all the cities H5892 thereof, and all the souls H5315 that were therein; he left H7604 (HiphPerf) none remaining, H8300 according to all that he had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Eglon; H5700 but destroyed H2763 (HiphImpf) it utterly, and all the souls H5315 that were therein.

και επαταξεν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και παν εμπνεον οσα ην εν αυτη ουκ ην διασεσωσμενος ον τροπον εποιησαν την οδολλαμ εξωλεθρευσαν αυτην και οσα ην εν αυτη

He took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.

and he took H3920 (QalImpf) it, and the king H4428 thereof, and all the cities H5892 thereof; and they smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and utterly destroyed H2763 (HiphImpf) all the souls H5315 that were therein; he left H7604 (HiphPerf) none remaining: H8300 as he had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Hebron, H2275 so he did H6213 (QalPerf) to Debir, H1688 and to the king H4428 thereof; as he had done H6213 (QalPerf) also to Libnah, H3841 and to her king. H4428

ελαβον αυτην και τον βασιλεα αυτης και τας κωμας αυτης και επαταξαν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και εξωλεθρευσαν αυτην και παν εμπνεον εν αυτη και ου κατελιπον αυτη ουδενα διασεσωσμενον ον τροπον εποιησαν την χεβρων και τω βασιλει αυτης ουτως εποιησαν τη δαβιρ και τω βασιλει αυτης

Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

And Joshua H3091 did H6213 (QalImpf) unto them as the Lord H3068 bade H559 (QalPerf) him: he houghed H6131 (PielPerf) their horses, H5483 and burnt H8313 (QalPerf) their chariots H4818 with fire. H784

και εποιησεν αυτοις ιησους ον τροπον ενετειλατο αυτω κυριος τους ιππους αυτων ενευροκοπησεν και τα αρματα αυτων ενεπρησεν εν πυρι

As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.
