I will raise up a faithful priest for myself who will do according to that which is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house. He will walk before my anointed forever.

and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he doth do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he hath walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;

and God’s lamp hadn’t yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down in Yahweh’s temple where God’s ark was,

And ere the lamp H5216 of God H430 went out H3518 (QalImpf) in the temple H1964 of the Lord, H3068 where the ark H727 of God H430 [was], and Samuel H8050 was laid down H7901 (QalActPtc) [to sleep];

And the lamp of God is not yet extinguished, and Samuel is lying down in the temple of Jehovah, where the ark of God is,

Yahweh said to Samuel, “Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) to Samuel, H8050 Behold, I will do H6213 (QalActPtc) a thing H1697 in Israel, H3478 at which both H8147 the ears H241 of every one that heareth H8085 (QalActPtc) it shall tingle. H6750 (QalImpf)

And Jehovah saith unto Samuel, ‘Lo, I am doing a thing in Israel, at which the two ears of every one hearing it do tingle.

For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knew, because his sons brought a curse on themselves, and he didn’t restrain them.

For I have told H5046 (HiphPerf) him that I will judge H8199 (QalActPtc) his house H1004 for H5704 ever H5769 for the iniquity H5771 which he knoweth; H3045 (QalPerf) because his sons H1121 made themselves vile, H7043 (PielPtc) and he restrained H3543 (PielPerf) them not.

and I have declared to him that I am judging his house-to the age, for the iniquity which he hath known, for his sons are making themselves vile, and he hath not restrained them,

The men who didn’t die were struck with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

And the men H582 that died H4191 (QalPerf) not were smitten H5221 (HophPerf) with the emerods: H2914 (Qere) H6076 and the cry H7775 of the city H5892 went up H5927 (QalImpf) to heaven. H8064

and the men who have not died have been smitten with emerods, and the cry of the city goeth up into the heavens.

Then they said, “What should the trespass offering be which we shall return to him?” They said, “Five golden tumors and five golden mice, for the number of the lords of the Philistines; for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) they, What [shall be] the trespass offering H817 which we shall return H7725 (HiphImpf) to him? They answered, H559 (QalImpf) Five H2568 golden H2091 emerods, H2914 (Qere) H6076 and five H2568 golden H2091 mice, H5909 [according to] the number H4557 of the lords H5633 of the Philistines: H6430 for one H259 plague H4046 [was] on you all, and on your lords. H5633

And they say, ‘What is the guilt-offering which we send back to Him?’ and they say, ‘The number of the princes of the Philistines-five golden emerods, and five golden mice-for one plague is to you all, and to your princes,

“Now therefore take and prepare yourselves a new cart and two milk cows on which there has come no yoke; and tie the cows to the cart, and bring their calves home from them;

‘And now, take and make one new cart, and two suckling kine, on which a yoke hath not gone up, and ye have bound the kine in the cart, and caused their young ones to turn back from after them to the house,

and take Yahweh’s ark and lay it on the cart. Put the jewels of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go.

And take H3947 (QalPerf) the ark H727 of the Lord, H3068 and lay H5414 (QalPerf) it upon the cart; H5699 and put H7760 (QalImpf) the jewels H3627 of gold, H2091 which ye return H7725 (HiphPerf) him [for] a trespass offering, H817 in a coffer H712 by the side H6654 thereof; and send it away, H7971 (PielPerf) that it may go. and ye have taken the ark of Jehovah, and put it on the cart, and the vessels of gold which ye have returned to Him-a guilt-offering-ye put in a coffer on its side, and have sent it away, and it hath gone;

The Levites took down Yahweh’s ark and the box that was with it, in which the jewels of gold were, and put them on the great stone; and the men of Beth Shemesh offered burnt offerings and sacrificed sacrifices the same day to Yahweh.

And the Levites H3881 took down H3381 (HiphPerf) the ark H727 of the Lord, H3068 and the coffer H712 that [was] with it, wherein the jewels H3627 of gold H2091 [were], and put H7760 (QalImpf) [them] on the great H1419 stone: H68 and the men H582 of Bethshemesh H1053 offered H5927 (HiphPerf) burnt offerings H5930 and sacrificed H2076 (QalImpf) sacrifices H2077 the same day H3117 unto the Lord. And the Levites have taken down the ark of Jehovah, and the coffer which is with it, in which are the vessels of gold, and place them on the great stone; and the men of Beth-Shemesh have caused to ascend burnt-offerings and sacrifice sacrifices in that day to Jehovah;

These are the golden tumors which the Philistines returned for a trespass offering to Yahweh: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

And these [are] the golden H2091 emerods H2914 which the Philistines H6430 returned H7725 (HiphPerf) [for] a trespass offering H817 unto the Lord; H3068 for Ashdod H795 one, H259 for Gaza H5804 one, H259 for Askelon H831 one, H259 for Gath H1661 one, H259 for Ekron H6138 one; H259

And these are the golden emerods which the Philistines have sent back-a guilt-offering to Jehovah: for Ashdod one, for Gaza one, for Ashkelon one, for Gath one, for Ekron one;

and the golden mice, according to the number of all the cities of the Philistines belonging to the five lords, both of fortified cities and of country villages, even to the great stone on which they set down Yahweh’s ark. That stone remains to this day in the field of Joshua of Beth Shemesh.

And the golden H2091 mice, H5909 [according to] the number H4557 of all the cities H5892 of the Philistines H6430 [belonging] to the five H2568 lords, H5633 [both] of fenced H4013 cities, H5892 and of country H6521 villages, H3724 even unto the great H1419 [stone of] Abel, H59 whereon they set down H3240 (HiphPerf) the ark H727 of the Lord: H3068 [which stone remaineth] unto this day H3117 in the field H7704 of Joshua, H3091 the Bethshemite. and the golden mice-the number of all the cities of the Philistines-for the five princes, from the fenced city even unto the hamlet of the villages, even unto the great meadow on which they placed the ark of Jehovah-are unto this day in the field of Joshua the Beth-Shemeshite.

The cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even to Gath; and Israel recovered its border out of the hand of the Philistines. There was peace between Israel and the Amorites.

And the cities H5892 which the Philistines H6430 had taken H3947 (QalPerf) from Israel H3478 were restored H7725 (QalImpf) to Israel, H3478 from Ekron H6138 even unto Gath; H1661 and the coasts H1366 thereof did Israel H3478 deliver H5337 (HiphPerf) out of the hands H3027 of the Philistines. H6430 And there was peace H7965 between Israel H3478 and the Amorites. H567

And the cities which the Philistines have taken from Israel are restored to Israel-from Ekron even unto Gath-and their border hath Israel delivered out of the hand of the Philistines; and there is peace between Israel and the Amorite.

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken me and served other gods, so they also do to you.

According to all the works H4639 which they have done H6213 (QalPerf) since the day H3117 that I brought them up H5927 (HiphInf) out of Egypt H4714 even unto this day, H3117 wherewith they have forsaken H5800 (QalImpf) me, and served H5647 (QalImpf) other H312 gods, H430 so do H6213 (QalActPtc) they also unto thee.

According to all the works that they have done from the day of My bringing them up out of Egypt, even unto this day, when they forsake Me, and serve other gods-so they are doing also to thee.

Now therefore, listen to their voice. However, you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”

Now therefore hearken H8085 (QalImpv) unto their voice: H6963 howbeit H389 yet protest H5749 (HiphImpf) solemnly H5749 (HiphInf) unto them, and shew H5046 (HiphPerf) them the manner H4941 of the king H4428 that shall reign H4427 (QalImpf) over them.

And now, hearken to their voice; only, surely thou dost certainly protest to them, and hast declared to them the custom of the king who doth reign over them.’

He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) This will be the manner H4941 of the king H4428 that shall reign H4427 (QalImpf) over you: He will take H3947 (QalImpf) your sons, H1121 and appoint H7760 (QalPerf) [them] for himself, for his chariots, H4818 and [to be] his horsemen; H6571 and [some] shall run H7323 (QalPerf) before H6440 his chariots. and saith, ‘This is the custom of the king who doth reign over you: Your sons he doth take, and hath appointed for himself among his chariots, and among his horsemen, and they have run before his chariots;

You will cry out in that day because of your king whom you will have chosen for yourselves; and Yahweh will not answer you in that day.”

And ye shall cry out H2199 (QalPerf) in that day H3117 because H6440 of your king H4428 which ye shall have chosen H977 (QalPerf) you; and the Lord H3068 will not hear H6030 (QalImpf) you in that day. H3117

And ye have cried out in that day because of the king whom ye have chosen for yourselves, and Jehovah doth not answer you in that day.’

When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, “Come! Let’s return, lest my father stop caring about the donkeys and be anxious for us.”

[And] when they were come H935 (QalPerf) to the land H776 of Zuph, H6689 Saul H7586 said H559 (QalPerf) to his servant H5288 that [was] with him, Come, H3212 (QalImpv) and let us return; H7725 (QalImpf) lest my father H1 leave H2308 (QalImpf) [caring] for the asses, H860 and take thought H1672 (QalPerf) for us.

They have come in unto the land of Zuph, and Saul hath said to his young man who is with him, ‘Come, and we turn back, lest my father leave off from the asses, and hath been sorrowful for us.’

The servant said to him, “Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says surely happens. Now let’s go there. Perhaps he can tell us which way to go.”

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold now, [there is] in this city H5892 a man H376 of God, H430 and [he is] an honourable H3513 (NiphPtc) man; H376 all that he saith H1696 (PielImpf) cometh H935 (QalImpf) surely to pass: H935 (QalInf) now let us go H3212 (QalImpf) thither; peradventure he can shew H5046 (HiphImpf) us our way H1870 that we should go. And he saith to him, ‘Lo, I pray thee, a man of God is in this city, and the man is honoured; all that he speaketh doth certainly come; now, we go there, it may be he doth declare to us our way on which we have gone.’

Then Saul said to his servant, “Well said. Come! Let’s go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was.

Then said H1697 Saul H7586 to his servant, H5288 Well H2896 said; H559 (QalImpf) come, H3212 (QalImpv) let us go. H3212 (QalImpf) So they went H3212 (QalImpf) unto the city H5892 where the man H376 of God H430 [was].

And Saul saith to his young man, ‘Thy word is good; come, we go;’ and they go unto the city where the man of God is.

When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said to him, “Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.”

And when Samuel H8050 saw H7200 (QalPerf) Saul, H7586 the Lord H3068 said H6030 (QalPerf) unto him, Behold the man H376 whom I spake H559 (QalPerf) to thee of! this same shall reign H6113 (QalImpf) over my people. H5971

When Samuel hath seen Saul, then hath Jehovah answered him, ‘Lo, the man of whom I have spoken unto thee; this one doth restrain My people.’

Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Set it aside.’ ”

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the cook, H2876 Bring H5414 (QalImpv) the portion H4490 which I gave H5414 (QalPerf) thee, of which I said H559 (QalPerf) unto thee, Set H7760 (QalImpv) it by thee.

And Samuel saith to the cook, ‘Give the portion which I gave to thee, of which I said unto thee, ‘Set it by thee?’

When you have departed from me today, then you will find two men by Rachel’s tomb, on the border of Benjamin at Zelzah. They will tell you, ‘The donkeys which you went to look for have been found; and behold, your father has stopped caring about the donkeys and is anxious for you, saying, “What shall I do for my son?” ’

When thou art departed H3212 (QalInf) from me H5978 to day, H3117 then thou shalt find H4672 (QalPerf) two H8147 men H582 by Rachel’s H7354 sepulchre H6900 in the border H1366 of Benjamin H1144 at Zelzah; H6766 and they will say H559 (QalPerf) unto thee, The asses H860 which thou wentest H1980 (QalPerf) to seek H1245 (PielInf) are found: H4672 (NiphPerf) and, lo, thy father H1 hath left H5203 (QalPerf) the care H1697 of the asses, H860 and sorroweth H1672 (QalPerf) for you, saying, H559 (QalInf) What shall I do H6213 (QalImpf) for my son? In thy going to-day from me-then thou hast found two men by the grave of Rachel, in the border of Benjamin, at Zelzah, and they have said unto thee, The asses have been found which thou hast gone to seek; and lo, thy father hath left the matter of the asses, and hath sorrowed for you, saying, What do I do for my son?

“After that you will come to the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is; and it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a band of prophets coming down from the high place with a lute, a tambourine, a pipe, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying.

After H310 that thou shalt come H935 (QalImpf) to the hill H1389 of God, H430 where [is] the garrison H5333 of the Philistines: H6430 and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither H935 (QalInf) to the city, H5892 that thou shalt meet H6293 (QalPerf) a company H2256 of prophets H5030 coming down H3381 (QalActPtc) from the high place H1116 with a psaltery, H5035 and a tabret, H8596 and a pipe, H2485 and a harp, H3658 before H6440 them; and they shall prophesy: H5012 (HithPtc)

‘Afterwards thou dost come unto the hill of God, where the garrison of the Philistines is, and it cometh to pass, at thy coming in thither to the city, that thou hast met a band of prophets coming down from the high place, and before them psaltery, and tabret, and pipe, and harp, and they are prophesying;

Let it be, when these signs have come to you, that you do what is appropriate for the occasion; for God is with you.

And let it be, when these signs H226 are come H935 (QalImpf) unto thee, [that] thou do H6213 (QalImpv) as occasion H4672 (QalImpf) serve H3027 thee; for God H430 [is] with thee.

and it hath been, when these signs come to thee-do for thyself as thy hand findeth, for God is with thee.

“Go down ahead of me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings. Wait seven days, until I come to you and show you what you are to do.”

‘And thou hast gone down before me to Gilgal, and lo, I am going down unto thee, to cause to ascend burnt-offerings, to sacrifice sacrifices of peace-offerings; seven days thou dost wait till my coming in unto thee, and I have made known to thee that which thou dost do.’

Saul said to his uncle, “He told us plainly that the donkeys were found.” But concerning the matter of the kingdom, of which Samuel spoke, he didn’t tell him.

And Saul H7586 said H559 (QalImpf) unto his uncle, H1730 He told H5046 (HiphPerf) us plainly H5046 (HiphInf) that the asses H860 were found. H4672 (NiphPerf) But of the matter H1697 of the kingdom, H4410 whereof Samuel H8050 spake, H559 (QalPerf) he told H5046 (HiphPerf) him not.

And Saul saith unto his uncle, ‘He certainly declared to us that the asses were found;’ and of the matter of the kingdom he hath not declared to him that which Samuel said.

But you have today rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, ‘No! Set a king over us!’ Now therefore present yourselves before Yahweh by your tribes and by your thousands.”

And ye have this day H3117 rejected H3988 (QalPerf) your God, H430 who himself saved H3467 (HiphPtc) you out of all your adversities H7451 and your tribulations; H6869 and ye have said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, [Nay], but set H7760 (QalImpf) a king H4428 over us. and ye to-day have rejected your God, who is Himself your saviour out of all your evils and your distresses, and ye say, ‘Nay, but-a king thou dost set over us; and now, station yourselves before Jehovah, by your tribes, and by your thousands.’

Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him whom Yahweh has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the people?” All the people shouted and said, “Long live the king!”

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) to all the people, H5971 See H7200 (QalPerf) ye him whom the Lord H3068 hath chosen, H977 (QalPerf) that [there is] none like him among all the people? H5971 And all the people H5971 shouted, H7321 (HiphImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) God save H2421 (QalImpf) the king. H4428

And Samuel saith unto all the people, ‘Have ye seen him on whom Jehovah hath fixed, for there is none like him among all the people?’ And all the people shout, and say, ‘Let the king live!’

Saul also went to his house in Gibeah; and the army went with him, whose hearts God had touched.

And Saul H7586 also went H1980 (QalPerf) home H1004 to Gibeah; H1390 and there went H3212 (QalImpf) with him a band of men, H2428 whose hearts H3820 God H430 had touched. H5060 (QalPerf)

And also Saul hath gone to his house, to Gibeah, and the force go with him whose heart God hath touched;

He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, then sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, “Whoever doesn’t come out after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen.” The dread of Yahweh fell on the people, and they came out as one man.

and he taketh a couple of oxen, and cutteth them in pieces, and sendeth through all the border of Israel, by the hand of the messengers, saying, ‘He who is not coming out after Saul and after Samuel-thus it is done to his oxen;’ and the fear of Jehovah falleth on the people, and they come out as one man.

Samuel said to the people, “It is Yahweh who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the people, H5971 [It is] the Lord H3068 that advanced H6213 (QalPerf) Moses H4872 and Aaron, H175 and that brought H5927 your fathers H1 up H5927 (HiphPerf) out of the land H776 of Egypt. H4714

And Samuel saith unto the people, ‘Jehovah-He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!

Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Yahweh concerning all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he did to you and to your fathers.

Now therefore stand still, H3320 (HithImpv) that I may reason H8199 (NiphImpf) with you before H6440 the Lord H3068 of all the righteous acts H6666 of the Lord, H3068 which he did H6213 (QalPerf) to you and to your fathers. H1

and, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.

If you will fear Yahweh, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Yahweh, then both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of Yahweh your God.

If ye will fear H3372 (QalImpf) the Lord, H3068 and serve H5647 (QalPerf) him, and obey H8085 (QalPerf) his voice, H6963 and not rebel H4784 (HiphImpf) against the commandment H6310 of the Lord, H3068 then shall both ye and also the king H4428 that reigneth H4427 (QalPerf) over you continue following H310 the Lord H3068 your God: H430

‘If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been-both ye and the king who hath reigned over you-after Jehovah your God.

“Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Yahweh will do before your eyes.

Now therefore H1571 stand H3320 (HithImpv) and see H7200 (QalImpv) this great H1419 thing, H1697 which the Lord H3068 will do H6213 (QalActPtc) before your eyes. H5869

‘Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;

Isn’t it wheat harvest today? I will call to Yahweh, that he may send thunder and rain; and you will know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in Yahweh’s sight, in asking for a king.”

[Is it] not wheat H2406 harvest H7105 to day? H3117 I will call H7121 (QalImpf) unto the Lord, H3068 and he shall send H5414 (QalImpf) thunder H6963 and rain; H4306 that ye may perceive H3045 (QalImpv) and see H7200 (QalImpv) that your wickedness H7451 [is] great, H7227 which ye have done H6213 (QalPerf) in the sight H5869 of the Lord, H3068 in asking H7592 (QalInf) you a king. H4428

is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.’

Don’t turn away to go after vain things which can’t profit or deliver, for they are vain.

And turn ye not aside: H5493 (QalImpf) for [then should ye go] after H310 vain H8414 [things], which cannot profit H3276 (HiphImpf) nor deliver; H5337 (HiphImpf) for they [are] vain. H8414

and ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they are vain,

Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.

Only fear H3372 (QalImpv) the Lord, H3068 and serve H5647 (QalPerf) him in truth H571 with all your heart: H3824 for consider H7200 (QalImpv) how great [things] he hath done H1431 (HiphPerf) for you.

only, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;

The Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel: thirty thousand chariots, six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the seashore in multitude. They came up and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth Aven.

And the Philistines H6430 gathered themselves together H622 (NiphPerf) to fight H3898 (NiphInf) with Israel, H3478 thirty H7970 thousand H505 chariots, H7393 and six H8337 thousand H505 horsemen, H6571 and people H5971 as the sand H2344 which [is] on the sea H3220 shore H8193 in multitude: H7230 and they came up, H5927 (QalImpf) and pitched H2583 (QalImpf) in Michmash, H4363 eastward H6926 from Bethaven. And the Philistines have been gathered to fight with Israel; thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and a people as the sand which is on the sea-shore for multitude; and they come up and encamp in Michmash, east of Beth-Aven.

He stayed seven days, according to the time set by Samuel; but Samuel didn’t come to Gilgal, and the people were scattering from him.

And he tarried H3176 (HiphImpf) (Qere) H3176 (NiphImpf) seven H7651 days, H3117 according to the set time H4150 that Samuel H8050 [had appointed]: but Samuel H8050 came H935 (QalPerf) not to Gilgal; H1537 and the people H5971 were scattered H6327 (HiphImpf) from him.

And he waiteth seven days, according to the appointment with Samuel, and Samuel hath not come to Gilgal, and the people are scattered from off him.

Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of Yahweh your God, which he commanded you; for now Yahweh would have established your kingdom on Israel forever.

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) to Saul, H7586 Thou hast done foolishly: H5528 (NiphPerf) thou hast not kept H8104 (QalPerf) the commandment H4687 of the Lord H3068 thy God, H430 which he commanded H6680 (PielPerf) thee: for now would the Lord H3068 have established H3559 (HiphPerf) thy kingdom H4467 upon Israel H3478 for H5704 ever. H5769

And Samuel saith unto Saul, ‘Thou hast been foolish; thou hast not kept the command of Jehovah thy God, which He commanded thee, for now had Jehovah established thy kingdom over Israel unto the age;

But now your kingdom will not continue. Yahweh has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and Yahweh has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept that which Yahweh commanded you.”

But now thy kingdom H4467 shall not continue: H6965 (QalImpf) the Lord H3068 hath sought H1245 (PielPerf) him a man H376 after his own heart, H3824 and the Lord H3068 hath commanded H6680 (PielImpf) him [to be] captain H5057 over his people, H5971 because thou hast not kept H8104 (QalPerf) [that] which the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) thee.

and, now, thy kingdom doth not stand, Jehovah hath sought for Himself a man according to His own heart, and Jehovah chargeth him for leader over His people, for thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee.’

So it came to pass in the day of battle that neither sword nor spear was found in the hand of any of the people who were with Saul and Jonathan; but Saul and Jonathan his son had them.

So it came to pass in the day H3117 of battle, H4421 that there was neither sword H2719 nor spear H2595 found H4672 (NiphPerf) in the hand H3027 of any of the people H5971 that [were] with Saul H7586 and Jonathan: H3129 but with Saul H7586 and with Jonathan H3129 his son H1121 was there found. And it hath been, in the day of battle, that there hath not been found sword and spear in the hand of any of the people who are with Saul and with Jonathan-and there is found to Saul and to Jonathan his son.

Saul stayed in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron; and the people who were with him were about six hundred men,

And Saul H7586 tarried H3427 (QalActPtc) in the uttermost H7097 part of Gibeah H1390 under a pomegranate tree H7416 which [is] in Migron: H4051 and the people H5971 that [were] with him [were] about six H8337 hundred H3967 men; H376

And Saul is abiding at the extremity of Gibeah, under the pomegranate which is in Migron, and the people who are with him, about six hundred men,

Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side and a rocky crag on the other side; and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

And between the passages, H4569 by which Jonathan H3129 sought H1245 (PielPerf) to go over H5674 (QalInf) unto the Philistines’ H6430 garrison, H4673 [there was] a sharp H8127 rock H5553 on the one side, H5676 and a sharp H8127 rock H5553 on the other side: H5676 and the name H8034 of the one H259 [was] Bozez, H949 and the name H8034 of the other H259 Seneh. H5573

And between the passages where Jonathan sought to pass over unto the station of the Philistines is the edge of a rock on the one side, and the edge of a rock on the other side, and the name of the one is Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, “Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves!”

And both H8147 of them discovered H1540 (NiphImpf) themselves unto the garrison H4673 of the Philistines: H6430 and the Philistines H6430 said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, the Hebrews H5680 come forth H3318 (QalActPtc) out of the holes H2356 where they had hid H2244 (HithPerf) themselves.

And revealed are both of them unto the station of the Philistines, and the Philistines say, ‘Lo, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hid themselves.’

That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow’s length in an acre of land.

And the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field,

Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Count now, and see who is missing from us.” When they had counted, behold, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 unto the people H5971 that [were] with him, Number H6485 (QalImpv) now, and see H7200 (QalImpv) who is gone H1980 (QalPerf) from us. And Saul saith to the people who are with him, ‘Inspect, I pray you, and see; who hath gone from us?’ and they inspect, and lo, Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons are not.

Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle; and behold, they were all striking each other with their swords in very great confusion.

And Saul H7586 and all the people H5971 that [were] with him assembled H2199 (NiphImpf) themselves, and they came H935 (QalImpf) to the battle: H4421 and, behold, every man’s H376 sword H2719 was against his fellow, H7453 [and there was] a very H3966 great H1419 discomfiture. H4103

And Saul is called, and all the people who are with him, and they come in unto the battle, and, lo, the sword of each hath been against his neighbour-a very great destruction.

Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines before and who went up with them into the camp from all around, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

Moreover the Hebrews H5680 [that] were with the Philistines H6430 before H865 that time, H8032 which went up H5927 (QalPerf) with them into the camp H4264 [from the country] round about, H5439 even they also [turned] to be with the Israelites H3478 that [were] with Saul H7586 and Jonathan. H3129

And the Hebrews who have been for the Philistines as heretofore, who had gone up with them into the camp, have turned round, even they, to be with Israel who are with Saul and Jonathan,

The men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul had adjured the people, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

And the men of Israel have been distressed on that day, and Saul adjureth the people, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eateth food till the evening, and I have been avenged of mine enemies;’ and none of the people hath tasted food.
