And they have gone forth, And looked on the carcases of the men Who are transgressing against me, For their worm dieth not, And their fire is not quenched, And they have been an abhorrence to all flesh!

For behold, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says Yahweh. “They will come, and they will each set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Judah.

For, lo, I am calling for all families of the kingdoms of the north,-an affirmation of Jehovah-and they have come, and put each his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and by its walls round about, and by all cities of Judah.

They didn’t say, ‘Where is Yahweh who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that no one passed through, and where no man lived?’

Neither said H559 (QalPerf) they, Where [is] the Lord H3068 that brought us up H5927 (HiphPtc) out of the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 that led H3212 (HiphPtc) us through the wilderness, H4057 through a land H776 of deserts H6160 and of pits, H7745 through a land H776 of drought, H6723 and of the shadow of death, H6757 through a land H776 that no man H376 passed through, H5674 (QalPerf) and where no man H120 dwelt? And have not said, Where is Jehovah, Who bringeth us up out of the land of Egypt, Who leadeth us in a wilderness, In a land of deserts and pits, In a dry land, and of death-shade, In a land-none hath passed through it, Nor dwelt hath man there?’

“They say, ‘If a man puts away his wife, and she goes from him, and becomes another man’s, should he return to her again?’ Wouldn’t that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the prostitute with many lovers; yet return again to me,” says Yahweh.

Saying, ‘Lo, one sendeth away his wife, And she hath gone from him, And she hath been to another man, Doth he turn back unto her again? Greatly defiled is not that land? And thou hast committed whoredom with many lovers, And turn again to Me, an affirmation of Jehovah.

For Yahweh says to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, “Break up your fallow ground, and don’t sow among thorns.

For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 to the men H376 of Judah H3063 and Jerusalem, H3389 Break up H5214 (QalImpv) your fallow ground, H5215 and sow H2232 (QalImpf) not among thorns. H6975

For thus said Jehovah, To the man of Judah, and to Jerusalem: Till for yourselves tillage, And do not sow unto the thorns.

Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh, and take away the foreskins of your heart, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my wrath go out like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Be circumcised to Jehovah, And turn aside the foreskins of your heart, O man of Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, Lest My fury go out as fire, and hath burned, And there is none quenching, Because of the evil of your doings.

Every city flees for the noise of the horsemen and archers. They go into the thickets and climb up on the rocks. Every city is forsaken, and not a man dwells therein.

From the voice of the horseman, And of him shooting with the bow, all the city is fleeing, They have come into thickets, And on cliffs they have gone up, All the city is forsaken, And there is no one dwelling in them.

“Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its wide places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who does justly, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her.

Go to and fro in streets of Jerusalem, And see, I pray you, and know, And seek in her broad places, if ye find a man, If there be one doing judgment, seeking stedfastness- Then am I propitious to her.

They were as fed horses roaming at large. Everyone neighed after his neighbor’s wife.

Fed horses-they have been early risers, Each to the wife of his neighbour they neigh.

For wicked men are found among my people. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men.

For the wicked have been found among My people. It looketh about the covering of snares, They have set up a trap-men they capture.

Shepherds with their flocks will come to her. They will pitch their tents against her all around. They will feed everyone in his place.”

Unto her come do shepherds and their droves, They have stricken tents by her round about, They have fed each in his own station.

Therefore I am full of Yahweh’s wrath. I am weary with holding it in. “Pour it out on the children in the street, and on the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife will be taken, the aged with him who is full of days.

And with the fury of Jehovah I have been filled, (I have been weary of containing,) To pour it on the suckling in the street, And on the assembly of youths together, For even husband with wife are captured, An elder with one full of days,

They take hold of bow and spear. They are cruel, and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Zion.”

Bow and javelin they take hold of, Fierce it is, and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea doth sound, And on horses they ride, set in array as a man of war, Against thee, O daughter of Zion.

For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbor;

For, if ye do thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, If ye do judgment thoroughly Between a man and his neighbour,

I listened and heard, but they didn’t say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying, “What have I done?” Everyone turns to his course, as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.

I have given attention, yea, I hearken, They do not speak right, No man hath repented of his wickedness, Saying, What have I done? Every one hath turned to his courses, As a horse is rushing into battle.

“Everyone beware of his neighbor, and don’t trust in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go around like a slanderer.

Take ye heed H8104 (NiphImpv) every one H376 of his neighbour, H7453 and trust H982 (QalImpf) ye not in any brother: H251 for every brother H251 will utterly H6117 (QalInf) supplant, H6117 (QalImpf) and every neighbour H7453 will walk H1980 (QalImpf) with slanders. H7400

Each of his friend-beware ye, And on any brother, do not trust, For every brother doth utterly supplant, For every friend slanderously doth walk,

Friends deceive each other, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves committing iniquity.

And they will deceive H2048 (PielImpf) every one H376 his neighbour, H7453 and will not speak H1696 (PielImpf) the truth: H571 they have taught H3925 (PielPerf) their tongue H3956 to speak H1696 (PielInf) lies, H8267 [and] weary H3811 (NiphPerf) themselves to commit iniquity. H5753 (HiphInf)

And each at his friend they mock, And truth they do not speak, They taught their tongue to speak falsehood, To commit iniquity they have laboured.

I will weep and wail for the mountains, and lament for the pastures of the wilderness, because they are burned up, so that no one passes through; Men can’t hear the voice of the livestock. Both the birds of the sky and the animals have fled. They are gone.

For the mountains I lift up weeping and wailing, And for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, For they have been burnt up without any passing over, Nor have they heard the voice of cattle, From the fowl of the heavens unto the beast they have fled, they have gone.

Who is wise enough to understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of Yahweh has spoken, that he may declare it? Why has the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?

Who [is] the wise H2450 man, H376 that may understand H995 (QalImpf) this? and [who is he] to whom the mouth H6310 of the Lord H3068 hath spoken, H1696 (PielPerf) that he may declare H5046 (HiphImpf) it, for what the land H776 perisheth H6 (QalPerf) [and] is burned up H3341 (NiphPerf) like a wilderness, H4057 that none passeth through? H5674 (QalActPtc)

Who is the wise man? and he understandeth this, And he to whom the mouth of Jehovah spake? And he doth declare it, For what hath the land perished? It hath been burnt up as a wilderness, Without any passing through.

Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

O Lord, H3068 I know H3045 (QalPerf) that the way H1870 of man H120 [is] not in himself: [it is] not in man H376 that walketh H1980 (QalActPtc) to direct H3559 (HiphInf) his steps. H6806

I have known, O Jehovah, that not of man is his way, Not of man the going and establishing of his step.

“Hear the words of this covenant, and speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

‘Hear ye the words of this covenant, and ye have spoken unto the men of Judah, and unto the inhabitants of Jerusalem,

and say to them, Yahweh, the God of Israel says: ‘Cursed is the man who doesn’t hear the words of this covenant,

Yet they didn’t obey, nor turn their ear, but everyone walked in the stubbornness of their evil heart. Therefore I brought on them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they didn’t do them.’ ”

And they have not hearkened nor inclined their ear, And they walk each in the stubbornness of their evil heart, And I bring on them all the words of this covenant, That I commanded to do, and they did not.’

Yahweh said to me, “A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto me, A conspiracy H7195 is found H4672 (NiphPerf) among the men H376 of Judah, H3063 and among the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jerusalem. H3389

And Jehovah saith unto me: ‘A conspiracy is found in the men of Judah, And in the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the men of Anathoth, who seek your life, saying, ‘You shall not prophesy in Yahweh’s name, that you not die by our hand’—

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of the men H582 of Anathoth, H6068 that seek H1245 (PielPtc) thy life, H5315 saying, H559 (QalInf) Prophesy H5012 (NiphImpf) not in the name H8034 of the Lord, H3068 that thou die H4191 (QalImpf) not by our hand: H3027

Therefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, who are seeking thy life, saying: Do not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, And thou dost not die by our hands.

There will be no remnant to them, for I will bring evil on the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.’ ”

And there shall be no remnant H7611 of them: for I will bring H935 (HiphImpf) evil H7451 upon the men H582 of Anathoth, H6068 [even] the year H8141 of their visitation. H6486

And they have no remnant, For I bring evil unto the men of Anathoth, The year of their inspection!’

They have made it a desolation. It mourns to me, being desolate. The whole land is made desolate, because no one cares.

They have made H7760 (QalPerf) it desolate, H8076 [and being] desolate H8077 it mourneth H56 (QalPerf) unto me; the whole land H776 is made desolate, H8074 (NiphPerf) because no man H376 layeth H7760 (QalActPtc) [it] to heart. H3820

He hath made it become a desolation, The desolation hath mourned unto Me, Desolated hath been all the land, But there is no one laying it to heart.

It will happen that after I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them. I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

And it shall come to pass, after H310 that I have plucked them out H5428 (QalInf) I will return, H7725 (QalImpf) and have compassion H7355 (PielPerf) on them, and will bring them again, H7725 (HiphPerf) every man H376 to his heritage, H5159 and every man H376 to his land. H776

And it hath been, after My plucking them out, I turn back, and have pitied them, And I have brought them back, Each to his inheritance, and each to his land.

For as the belt clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to me,’ says Yahweh; ‘that they may be to me for a people, for a name, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.’

For, as the girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, So I caused to cleave unto Me The whole house of Israel, And the whole house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah, To be to Me for a people, and for a name, And for praise, and for beauty, And they have not hearkened.

I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says Yahweh: “I will not pity, spare, or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.” ’ ”

And have dashed them one against another, And the fathers and the sons together, An affirmation of Jehovah, I do not pity, nor spare, nor have I mercy, So as not to destroy them.

Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.

Why shouldest thou be as a man H376 astonied, H1724 (NiphPtc) as a mighty man H1368 [that] cannot H3201 (QalImpf) save? H3467 (HiphInf) yet thou, O Lord, H3068 [art] in the midst H7130 of us, and we are called H7121 (NiphPerf) by thy name; H8034 leave H3240 (HiphImpf) us not.

Why art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou art in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.

Woe is me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife, and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have not lent, neither have men lent to me; yet every one of them curses me.

Woe to me, my mother, For thou hast borne me a man of strife, And a man of contention to all the land, I have not lent on usury, Nor have they lent on usury to me- All of them are reviling me.

You have done evil more than your fathers, for behold, you each walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don’t listen to me.

“I, Yahweh, search the mind. I try the heart, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.”

then there will enter in by the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on David’s throne, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their princes, the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city will remain forever.

Then entered by the gates of this city have kings and princes, Sitting on the throne of David, Riding in a chariot, and on horses, They, and their princes, the man of Judah, And inhabitants of Jerusalem, And this city hath remained to the age.

“Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Yahweh says: “Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a plan against you. Everyone return from his evil way now, and amend your ways and your doings.” ’

And now, speak, I pray thee, unto men of Judah, And against inhabitants of Jerusalem, Saying: Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am framing against you evil, And devising against you a device, Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way And amend your ways and your doings.

But they say, ‘It is in vain; for we will walk after our own plans, and we will each follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.’ ”

And they have said, It is incurable, For after our own devices we do go, And each the stubbornness of his evil heart we do.

Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword. Let their wives become childless and widows. Let their men be killed and their young men struck by the sword in battle.

Let that man be as the cities which Yahweh overthrew, and didn’t repent. Let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime,

I will prepare destroyers against you, everyone with his weapons, and they will cut down your choice cedars, and cast them into the fire.

And many nations have passed by this city, And they have said, each to his neighbour, For what hath Jehovah done thus to this great city?

Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel? Is he a vessel in which no one delights? Why are they cast out, he and his offspring, and cast into a land which they don’t know?

[Is] this man H376 Coniah H3659 a despised H959 (NiphPtc) broken H5310 (QalPasPtc) idol? H6089 [is he] a vessel H3627 wherein [is] no pleasure? A grief-a despised broken thing-is this man Coniah? A vessel in which there is no pleasure? Wherefore have they been cast up and down, He and his seed, Yea, they were cast on to a land that they knew not?

Yahweh says, “Record this man as childless, a man who will not prosper in his days; for no more will a man of his offspring prosper, sitting on David’s throne and ruling in Judah.”

Thus said Jehovah: Write ye this man childless, A man-he doth not prosper in his days, For none of his seed doth prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling again in Judah!

Concerning the prophets: My heart within me is broken. All my bones shake. I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine has overcome, because of Yahweh, and because of his holy words.

In the prophets of Jerusalem I have also seen a horrible thing: they commit adultery and walk in lies. They strengthen the hands of evildoers, so that no one returns from his wickedness. They have all become to me as Sodom, and its inhabitants as Gomorrah.”

Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” says Yahweh. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.

Is any one hidden in secret places, And I see him not? an affirmation of Jehovah, Do not I fill the heavens and the earth? An affirmation of Jehovah.
