Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, “Don’t be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it will be well with you.

And Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) unto them and to their men, H582 saying, H559 (QalInf) Fear H3372 (QalImpf) not to serve H5647 (QalInf) the Chaldeans: H3778 dwell in H3427 (QalImpv) the land, H776 and serve H5647 (QalImpv) the king H4428 of Babylon, H894 and it shall be well H3190 (QalImpf) with you.

And swear to them doth Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, and to their men, saying, ‘Be not afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;

Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, “Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man will know it. Why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?”

Then Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah H7143 spake H559 (QalPerf) to Gedaliah H1436 in Mizpah H4709 secretly, H5643 saying, H559 (QalInf) Let me go, H3212 (QalImpf) I pray thee, and I will slay H5221 (HiphImpf) Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 and no man H376 shall know H3045 (QalImpf) [it]: wherefore should he slay H5221 (HiphImpf) H5315 thee, that all the Jews H3064 which are gathered H6908 (NiphPtc) unto thee should be scattered, H6327 (NiphPerf) and the remnant H7611 in Judah H3063 perish? H6 (QalPerf)

And Johanan son of Kareah hath spoken unto Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, ‘Let me go, I pray thee, and I smite Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one doth know; why doth he smite thy soul? and scattered have been all Judah who are gathered unto thee, and perished hath the remnant of Judah.’

Now in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal offspring and one of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and there they ate bread together in Mizpah.

Now it came to pass in the seventh H7637 month, H2320 [that] Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah H5418 the son H1121 of Elishama, H476 of the seed H2233 royal, H4410 and the princes H7227 of the king, H4428 even ten H6235 men H582 with him, came H935 (QalPerf) unto Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 to Mizpah; H4709 and there they did eat H398 (QalImpf) bread H3899 together H3162 in Mizpah. And it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and of the chiefs of the king, and ten men with him, unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and they eat there bread together in Mizpah.

Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men who were with him, and struck Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had made governor over the land.

Then arose H6965 (QalImpf) Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 and the ten H6235 men H582 that were with him, and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 with the sword, H2719 and slew H4191 (HiphImpf) him, whom the king H4428 of Babylon H894 had made governor H6485 (HiphPerf) over the land. And Ishmael son of Nethaniah riseth, and the ten men who have been with him, and they smite Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, with the sword, and he putteth him to death whom the king of Babylon hath appointed over the land.

Ishmael also killed all the Jews who were with Gedaliah at Mizpah, and the Chaldean men of war who were found there.

Ishmael H3458 also slew H5221 (HiphPerf) all the Jews H3064 that were with him, [even] with Gedaliah, H1436 at Mizpah, H4709 and the Chaldeans H3778 that were found H4672 (NiphPerf) there, [and] the men H582 of war. H4421

And all the Jews who have been with him, with Gedaliah, in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who have been found there-the men of war-hath Ishmael smitten.

The second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

And it came to pass the second H8145 day H3117 after he had slain H4191 (HiphInf) Gedaliah, H1436 and no man H376 knew H3045 (QalPerf) [it],

And it cometh to pass, on the second day of the putting of Gedaliah to death, (and no one hath known,)

men came from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, even eighty men, having their beards shaved and their clothes torn, and having cut themselves, with meal offerings and frankincense in their hand, to bring them to Yahweh’s house.

That there came H935 (QalImpf) certain H582 from Shechem, H7927 from Shiloh, H7887 and from Samaria, H8111 [even] fourscore H8084 men, H376 having their beards H2206 shaven, H1548 (PualPtc) and their clothes H899 rent, H7167 (QalPasPtc) and having cut H1413 (HipoPtc) themselves, with offerings H4503 and incense H3828 in their hand, H3027 to bring H935 (HiphInf) [them] to the house H1004 of the Lord. that men come in from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria-eighty men-with shaven beards, and rent garments, and cutting themselves, and an offering and frankincense in their hand, to bring in to the house of Jehovah.

It was so, when they came into the middle of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah killed them, and cast them into the middle of the pit, he, and the men who were with him.

And it was [so], when they came H935 (QalInf) into the midst H8432 of the city, H5892 that Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah H5418 slew H7819 (QalImpf) them, [and cast them] into the midst H8432 of the pit, H953 he, and the men H582 that [were] with him.

And it cometh to pass, at their coming in unto the midst of the city, that Ishmael son of Nethaniah doth slaughter them, at the midst of the pit, he and the men who are with him.

But ten men were found among those who said to Ishmael, “Don’t kill us; for we have stores hidden in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey.” So he stopped, and didn’t kill them among their brothers.

But ten H6235 men H582 were found H4672 (NiphPerf) among them that said H559 (QalImpf) unto Ishmael, H3458 Slay H4191 (HiphImpf) us not: for we have H3426 treasures H4301 in the field, H7704 of wheat, H2406 and of barley, H8184 and of oil, H8081 and of honey. And ten men have been found among them, and they say unto Ishmael, ‘Do not put us to death, for we have things hidden in the field-wheat, and barley, and oil, and honey.’ And he forbeareth, and hath not put them to death in the midst of their brethren.

Now the pit in which Ishmael cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had killed, by the side of Gedaliah (this was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel), Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with those who were killed.

And the pit whither Ishmael hath cast all the carcases of the men whom he hath smitten along with Gedaliah, is that which the king Asa made because of Baasha king of Israel-it hath Ishmael son of Nethaniah filled with the pierced.

then they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are in Gibeon.

Then they took H3947 (QalImpf) all the men, H582 and went H3212 (QalImpf) to fight H3898 (NiphInf) with Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 and found H4672 (QalImpf) him by the great H7227 waters H4325 that [are] in Gibeon. H1391

and they take all the men, and go to fight with Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and they find him at the great waters that are in Gibeon.

But Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

But Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah H5418 escaped H4422 (NiphPerf) from H6440 Johanan H3110 with eight H8083 men, H582 and went H3212 (QalImpf) to the Ammonites. H1121 H5983

And Ishmael son of Nethaniah hath escaped, with eight men, from the presence of Johanan, and he goeth unto the sons of Ammon.

Then Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces who were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam—the men of war, with the women, the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon.

Then took H3947 (QalImpf) Johanan H3110 the son H1121 of Kareah, H7143 and all the captains H8269 of the forces H2428 that [were] with him, all the remnant H7611 of the people H5971 whom he had recovered H7725 (HiphPerf) from Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 from Mizpah, H4709 after H310 [that] he had slain H5221 (HiphPerf) Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam, H296 [even] mighty H1397 men H582 of war, H4421 and the women, H802 and the children, H2945 and the eunuchs, H5631 whom he had brought again H7725 (HiphPerf) from Gibeon: H1391

And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces who are with him, take all the remnant of the people whom he hath brought back from Ishmael son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah-after he had smitten Gedaliah son of Ahikam-mighty ones, men of war, and women, and infants, and eunuchs, whom he had brought back from Gibeon,

So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.’

So shall it be with all the men H582 that set H7760 (QalPerf) their faces H6440 to go H935 (QalInf) into Egypt H4714 to sojourn H1481 (QalInf) there; they shall die H4191 (QalImpf) by the sword, H2719 by the famine, H7458 and by the pestilence: H1698 and none of them shall remain H8300 or escape H6412 from H6440 the evil H7451 that I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) upon them.

‘Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die-by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;

then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely. Yahweh our God has not sent you to say, ‘You shall not go into Egypt to live there;’

that Azariah son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and all the proud men, speak unto Jeremiah, saying, ‘Falsehood thou art speaking; Jehovah our God hath not sent thee to say, Do not enter Egypt to sojourn there;

“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.

Take H3947 (QalImpv) great H1419 stones H68 in thine hand, H3027 and hide H2934 (QalPerf) them in the clay H4423 in the brickkiln, H4404 which [is] at the entry H6607 of Pharaoh’s H6547 house H1004 in Tahpanhes, H8471 in the sight H5869 of the men H582 of Judah; H3064

‘Take in thy hand great stones, and thou hast hidden them, in the clay, in the brick-kiln, that is at the opening of the house of Pharaoh in Tahpanhes, before the eyes of the men of Judah,

“Therefore now Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Why do you commit great evil against your own souls, to cut off from yourselves man and woman, infant and nursing child out of the middle of Judah, to leave yourselves no one remaining,

Therefore now thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 the God H430 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 Wherefore commit H6213 (QalActPtc) ye [this] great H1419 evil H7451 against your souls, H5315 to cut off H3772 (HiphInf) from you man H376 and woman, H802 child H5768 and suckling, H3243 (QalActPtc) out H8432 of Judah, H3063 to leave H3498 (HiphInf) you none to remain; H7611

‘And, now, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Why are ye doing great evil unto your own souls, to cut off to you man and woman, infant and suckling, from the midst of Judah, so as not to leave to you a remnant:

Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

Then all the men H582 which knew H3045 (QalActPtc) that their wives H802 had burned incense H6999 (PielPtc) unto other H312 gods, H430 and all the women H802 that stood by, H5975 (QalActPtc) a great H1419 multitude, H6951 even all the people H5971 that dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) in the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 in Pathros, H6624 answered H6030 (QalImpf) Jeremiah, H3414 saying, H559 (QalInf)

And they answer Jeremiah-all the men who are knowing that their wives are making perfume to other gods, and all the women who are remaining, a great assembly, even all the people who are dwelling in the land of Egypt, in Pathros-saying:

The women said, “When we burned incense to the queen of the sky and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings to her, without our husbands?”

And when we burned incense H6999 (PielPtc) to the queen H4446 of heaven, H8064 and poured out H5258 (HiphInf) drink offerings H5262 unto her, did we make H6213 (QalPerf) her cakes H3561 to worship H6087 (HiphInf) her, and pour out H5258 (HiphInf) drink offerings H5262 unto her, without H1107 our men? H582

and when we are making perfume to the queen of the heavens, and pouring out to her libations-without our husbands have we made for her cakes to idolize her, and to pour out to her libations?’

“Therefore hear Yahweh’s word, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: ‘Behold, I have sworn by my great name,’ says Yahweh, ‘that my name will no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, “As the Lord Yahweh lives.”

Therefore hear H8085 (QalImpv) ye the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 all Judah H3063 that dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) in the land H776 of Egypt; H4714 Behold, I have sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) by my great H1419 name, H8034 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 that my name H8034 shall no more be named H7121 (NiphPtc) in the mouth H6310 of any man H376 of Judah H3063 in all the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 saying, H559 (QalActPtc) The Lord H136 God H3069 liveth. H2416

‘Therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, all Judah who are dwelling in the land of Egypt: Lo, I-I have sworn by My great name, said Jehovah, My name is no more proclaimed by the mouth of any man of Judah, saying, Live doth the Lord Jehovah-in all the land of Egypt.

Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all gone.

Behold, I will watch H8245 (QalActPtc) over them for evil, H7451 and not for good: H2896 and all the men H376 of Judah H3063 that [are] in the land H776 of Egypt H4714 shall be consumed H8552 (QalPerf) by the sword H2719 and by the famine, H7458 until there be an end H3615 (QalInf) of them.

Lo, I am watching over them for evil, and not for good, and consumed have been all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt, by sword and by famine, till their consumption.

He made many to stumble. Yes, they fell on one another. They said, ‘Arise! Let’s go again to our own people, and to the land of our birth, from the oppressing sword.’

He made many H7235 (HiphPerf) to fall, H3782 (QalActPtc) yea, one H376 fell H5307 (QalPerf) upon another: H7453 and they said, H559 (QalImpf) Arise, H6965 (QalImpv) and let us go again H7725 (QalImpf) to our own people, H5971 and to the land H776 of our nativity, H4138 from H6440 the oppressing H3238 (QalActPtc) sword. H2719

He hath multiplied the stumbling, Yea one hath fallen upon his neighbour, And they say: Rise, and we turn back to our people, And unto the land of our birth, Because of the oppressing sword.

“How do you say, ‘We are mighty men, and valiant men for the war’?

How say H559 (QalImpf) ye, We [are] mighty H1368 and strong H2428 men H582 for the war? H4421

How do ye say, We are mighty, And men of strength for battle?

Therefore I will wail for Moab. Yes, I will cry out for all Moab. They will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.

Therefore will I howl H3213 (HiphImpf) for Moab, H4124 and I will cry out H2199 (QalImpf) for all Moab; H4124 [mine heart] shall mourn H1897 (QalImpf) for the men H582 of Kirheres. H7025

Therefore for Moab I howl, even for Moab-all of it, I cry for men of Kir-Heres, it doth mourn,

Therefore my heart sounds for Moab like flutes, and my heart sounds like flutes for the men of Kir Heres. Therefore the abundance that he has gotten has perished.

Therefore mine heart H3820 shall sound H1993 (QalImpf) for Moab H4124 like pipes, H2485 and mine heart H3820 shall sound H1993 (QalImpf) like pipes H2485 for the men H582 of Kirheres: H7025 because the riches H3502 [that] he hath gotten H6213 (QalPerf) are perished. H6 (QalPerf)

Therefore my heart for Moab as pipes doth sound, And my heart for men of Kir-Heres As pipes doth sound, Therefore the abundance he made did perish.

Behold, I will bring a terror on you,” says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, “from all who are around you. All of you will be driven completely out, and there will be no one to gather together the fugitives.

Behold, I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) a fear H6343 upon thee, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H136 God H3069 of hosts, H6635 from all those that be about H5439 thee; and ye shall be driven out H5080 (NiphPerf) every man H376 right forth; H6440 and none shall gather up H6908 (PielPtc) him that wandereth. H5074 (QalActPtc)

Lo, I am bringing in upon thee a fear, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, From all round about thee, And ye have been driven out each before it, And there is no gatherer of the wandering.

As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities,” says Yahweh, “no man will dwell there, neither will any son of man live therein.

As in the overthrow H4114 of Sodom H5467 and Gomorrah H6017 and the neighbour H7934 [cities] thereof, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 no man H376 shall abide H3427 (QalImpf) there, neither shall a son H1121 of man H120 dwell H1481 (QalImpf) in it.

As the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, And its neighbours, said Jehovah, No one doth dwell there, Nor sojourn in her doth a son of man.

Therefore her young men will fall in her streets, and all the men of war will be brought to silence in that day,” says Yahweh of Armies.

Therefore her young men H970 shall fall H5307 (QalImpf) in her streets, H7339 and all the men H582 of war H4421 shall be cut off H1826 (NiphImpf) in that day, H3117 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635

Therefore fall do her young men in her broad places, And all the men of war are cut off in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts.

Hazor will be a dwelling place of jackals, a desolation forever. No man will dwell there, neither will any son of man live therein.”

And Hazor H2674 shall be a dwelling H4583 for dragons, H8577 [and] a desolation H8077 for H5704 ever: H5769 there shall no man H376 abide H3427 (QalImpf) there, nor [any] son H1121 of man H120 dwell H1481 (QalImpf) in it.

And Hazor hath been for a habitation of dragons, A desolation-unto the age, No one doth dwell there, nor sojourn in it doth a son of man!’

Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword, they will each return to their own people, and they will each flee to their own land.

As overthrown by God with Sodom, And with Gomorrah, and with its neighbours, An affirmation of Jehovah, none doth dwell there, Nor sojourn in her doth a son of man.

They take up bow and spear. They are cruel, and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea. They ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Babylon.

They shall hold H2388 (HiphImpf) the bow H7198 and the lance: H3591 they [are] cruel, H394 and will not shew mercy: H7355 (PielImpf) their voice H6963 shall roar H1993 (QalImpf) like the sea, H3220 and they shall ride H7392 (QalImpf) upon horses, H5483 [every one] put in array, H6186 (QalPasPtc) like a man H376 to the battle, H4421 against thee, O daughter H1323 of Babylon. Bow and halbert they seize, Cruel are they, and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea soundeth, and on horses they ride, Set in array as a man for battle, Against thee, O daughter of Babylon.

“Flee out of the middle of Babylon! Everyone save his own life! Don’t be cut off in her iniquity, for it is the time of Yahweh’s vengeance. He will render to her a recompense.

Flee ye from the midst of Babylon, And deliver ye each his soul, Be not cut off in its iniquity, For a time of vengeance it is to Jehovah, Recompence He is rendering to her.

“We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let’s each go into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

We healed Babylon, and she was not healed, Forsake her, and we go, each to his land, For come unto the heavens hath its judgment, And it hath been lifted up unto the clouds.

With you I will break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein. With you I will break in pieces man and woman. With you I will break in pieces the old man and the youth. With you I will break in pieces the young man and the virgin.

So the passages are seized. They have burned the reeds with fire. The men of war are frightened.”

And the passages have been captured, And the reeds they have burnt with fire, And the men of war have been troubled.

Her cities have become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells. No son of man passes by it.

Then a breach was made in the city, and all the men of war fled, and went out of the city by night by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden. Now the Chaldeans were against the city all around. The men of war went toward the Arabah,

then is the city broken up, and all the men of war flee, and go forth from the city by night, the way of the gate between the two walls, that is by the king’s garden-and the Chaldeans are by the city round about-and they go the way of the plain.

and out of the city he took an officer who was set over the men of war; and seven men of those who saw the king’s face, who were found in the city; and the scribe of the captain of the army, who mustered the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land, who were found in the middle of the city.

and out of the city he hath taken a certain eunuch, who hath been inspector over the men of war, and seven men of those seeing the king’s face, who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who mustereth the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land, who are found in the midst of the city;

For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

Their wings were joined to one another. They didn’t turn when they went. Each one went straight forward.

joining one unto another are their wings, they turn not round in their going, each straight forward they go.

Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out above. Two wings of each one touched another, and two covered their bodies.

And their faces and their wings are separate from above, to each are two joining together, and two are covering their bodies.

Each one went straight forward. Where the spirit was to go, they went. They didn’t turn when they went.

And each straight forward they go, whither the spirit is to go, they go, they turn not round in their going.

Under the expanse, their wings were straight, one toward the other. Each one had two which covered on this side, and each one had two which covered their bodies on that side.

And under the expanse their wings are straight, one toward the other, to each are two covering on this side, and to each are two covering on that side-their bodies.

I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be mute and will not be able to correct them, for they are a rebellious house.

and thy tongue I cause to cleave unto thy palate, and thou hast been dumb, and art not to them for a reprover, for a rebellious house are they.

that they may lack bread and water, be dismayed one with another, and pine away in their iniquity.

so that they lack bread and water, and have been astonished one with another, and been consumed in their iniquity.

For the seller won’t return to that which is sold, although they are still alive; for the vision concerns the whole multitude of it. None will return. None will strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.

For the seller H4376 (QalActPtc) shall not return H7725 (QalImpf) to that which is sold, H4465 although they were yet alive: H2416 for the vision H2377 [is] touching the whole multitude H1995 thereof, [which] shall not return; H7725 (QalImpf) neither shall any H376 strengthen H2388 (HithImpf) himself in the iniquity H5771 of his life. For the seller to the sold thing turneth not, And yet among the living is their life, For the vision is unto all its multitude, It doth not turn back, And none by his iniquity doth strengthen his life.
