“You shall perform the duty of the sanctuary and the duty of the altar, that there be no more wrath on the children of Israel.

“But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma to Yahweh.

However, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of Yahweh, in which Yahweh’s tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us; but don’t rebel against Yahweh, nor rebel against us, in building an altar other than Yahweh our God’s altar.

God forbid H2486 that we should rebel H4775 (QalInf) against the Lord, H3068 and turn H7725 (QalInf) this day H3117 from following H310 the Lord, H3068 to build H1129 (QalInf) an altar H4196 for burnt offerings, H5930 for meat offerings, H4503 or for sacrifices, H2077 beside the altar H4196 of the Lord H3068 our God H430 that is before H6440 his tabernacle. The children of Reuben and the children of Gad named the altar “A Witness Between Us that Yahweh is God.”

Joshua 22:34 That is, a witness

και ωρθρισαν οι ανδρες της πολεως το πρωι και ιδου κατεσκαμμενον το θυσιαστηριον του βααλ και το αλσος το επ αυτω εκκεκομμενον και ο μοσχος ο σιτευτος ανηνεγμενος εις ολοκαυτωμα επι το θυσιαστηριον το ωκοδομημενον

Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”

Then the men H582 of the city H5892 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joash, H3101 Bring out H3318 (HiphImpv) thy son, H1121 that he may die: H4191 (QalImpf) because he hath cast down H5422 (QalPerf) the altar H4196 of Baal, H1168 and because he hath cut down H3772 (QalPerf) the grove H842 that was by it.

και ειπαν οι ανδρες της πολεως προς ιωας εξαγαγε τον υιον σου και αποθανετω οτι κατεσκαψεν το θυσιαστηριον του βααλ και οτι εκοψεν το αλσος το επ αυτω

Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar!”

And Joash H3101 said H559 (QalImpf) unto all that stood H5975 (QalPerf) against him, Will ye plead H7378 (QalImpf) for Baal? H1168 will ye save H3467 (HiphImpf) him? he that will plead H7378 (QalImpf) for him, let him be put to death H4191 (HophImpf) whilst it is yet morning: H1242 if he be a god, H430 let him plead H7378 (QalImpf) for himself, because one hath cast down H5422 (QalPerf) his altar. H4196

και ειπεν ιωας προς τους ανδρας τους εσταμενους επ αυτον μη υμεις νυν δικαζεσθε περι του βααλ η υμεις σωζετε αυτον ος αντεδικησεν αυτον αποθανειται εως πρωι ει εστιν θεος αυτος εκδικησει αυτον οτι κατεσκαψεν το θυσιαστηριον αυτου

Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal,° saying, “Let Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”

Judges 6:32 “Jerub-Baal” means “Let Baal contend”.

Therefore on that day H3117 he called H7121 (QalImpf) him Jerubbaal, H3378 saying, H559 (QalInf) Let Baal H1168 plead H7378 (QalImpf) against him, because he hath thrown down H5422 (QalPerf) his altar. H4196

και εκαλεσεν αυτο εν τη ημερα εκεινη δικαστηριον του βααλ οτι κατεσκαψεν το θυσιαστηριον αυτου

For when the flame went up toward the sky from off the altar, Yahweh’s angel ascended in the flame of the altar. Manoah and his wife watched; and they fell on their faces to the ground.

For it came to pass, when the flame H3851 went up H5927 (QalInf) toward heaven H8064 from off the altar, H4196 that the angel H4397 of the Lord H3068 ascended H5927 (QalImpf) in the flame H3851 of the altar. και εγενετο εν τω αναβηναι την φλογα επανωθεν του θυσιαστηριου εις τον ουρανον και ανεβη ο αγγελος κυριου εν τη φλογι και μανωε και η γυνη αυτου εθεωρουν και επεσον επι προσωπον αυτων επι την γην

On the next day, the people rose early and built an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.

And it came to pass on the morrow, H4283 that the people H5971 rose early, H7925 (HiphImpf) and built H1129 (QalImpf) there an altar, H4196 and offered H5927 (HiphImpf) burnt offerings H5930 and peace offerings. H8002

και εγενετο εν τη επαυριον και ωρθρισεν ο λαος και ωκοδομησαν εκει θυσιαστηριον και ανηνεγκαν ολοκαυτωματα σωτηριου

Didn’t I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? Didn’t I give to the house of your father all the offerings of the children of Israel made by fire?

And did I choose H977 (QalInf) him out of all the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 to be my priest, H3548 to offer H5927 (QalInf) upon mine altar, H4196 to burn H6999 (HiphInf) incense, H7004 to wear H5375 (QalInf) an ephod H646 before H6440 me? and did I give H5414 (QalImpf) unto the house H1004 of thy father H1 all the offerings made by fire H801 of the children H1121 of Israel? H3478

και εξελεξαμην τον οικον του πατρος σου εκ παντων των σκηπτρων ισραηλ εμοι ιερατευειν και αναβαινειν επι θυσιαστηριον μου και θυμιαν θυμιαμα και αιρειν εφουδ και εδωκα τω οικω του πατρος σου τα παντα του πυρος υιων ισραηλ εις βρωσιν

The man of yours whom I don’t cut off from my altar will consume your eyes^§ and grieve your heart. All the increase of your house will die in the flower of their age.

και ανδρα ουκ εξολεθρευσω σοι απο του θυσιαστηριου μου εκλιπειν τους οφθαλμους αυτου και καταρρειν την ψυχην αυτου και πας περισσευων οικου σου πεσουνται εν ρομφαια ανδρων

His return was to Ramah, for his house was there, and he judged Israel there; and he built an altar to Yahweh there.

And his return H8666 was to Ramah; H7414 for there was his house; H1004 and there he judged H8199 (QalPerf) Israel; H3478 and there he built H1129 (QalImpf) an altar H4196 unto the Lord. H3068

η δε αποστροφη αυτου εις αρμαθαιμ οτι εκει ην ο οικος αυτου και εδικαζεν εκει τον ισραηλ και ωκοδομησεν εκει θυσιαστηριον τω κυριω

Saul built an altar to Yahweh. This was the first altar that he built to Yahweh.

And Saul H7586 built H1129 (QalImpf) an altar H4196 unto the Lord: H3068 the same was the first H2490 (HiphPerf) altar^§ H4196 that he built H1129 (QalInf) unto the Lord. H3068

Gad came that day to David and said to him, “Go up, build an altar to Yahweh on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

και ηλθεν γαδ προς δαυιδ εν τη ημερα εκεινη και ειπεν αυτω αναβηθι και στησον τω κυριω θυσιαστηριον εν τω αλωνι ορνα του ιεβουσαιου

Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” David said, “To buy your threshing floor, to build an altar to Yahweh, that the plague may be stopped from afflicting the people.”

And Araunah H728 said, H559 (QalImpf) Wherefore is my lord H113 the king H4428 come H935 (QalPerf) to his servant? H5650 And David H1732 said, H559 (QalImpf) To buy H7069 (QalInf) the threshingfloor H1637 of thee, to build H1129 (QalInf) an altar H4196 unto the Lord, H3068 that the plague H4046 may be stayed H6113 (NiphImpf) from the people. και ειπεν ορνα τι οτι ηλθεν ο κυριος μου ο βασιλευς προς τον δουλον αυτου και ειπεν δαυιδ κτησασθαι παρα σου τον αλωνα του οικοδομησαι θυσιαστηριον τω κυριω και συσχεθη η θραυσις επανω του λαου

David built an altar to Yahweh there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was removed from Israel.

And David H1732 built H1129 (QalImpf) there an altar H4196 unto the Lord, H3068 and offered H5927 (HiphImpf) burnt offerings H5930 and peace offerings. H8002 So the Lord H3068 was intreated H6279 (NiphImpf) for the land, H776 and the plague H4046 was stayed H6113 (NiphImpf) from Israel. H3478

και ωκοδομησεν εκει δαυιδ θυσιαστηριον κυριω και ανηνεγκεν ολοκαυτωσεις και ειρηνικας και προσεθηκεν σαλωμων επι το θυσιαστηριον επ εσχατω οτι μικρον ην εν πρωτοις και επηκουσεν κυριος τη γη και συνεσχεθη η θραυσις επανωθεν ισραηλ

Adonijah was afraid because of Solomon; and he arose, and went, and hung onto the horns of the altar.

And Adonijah H138 feared H3372 (QalPerf) because H6440 of Solomon, H8010 and arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went, H3212 (QalImpf) and caught hold H2388 (HiphImpf) on the horns H7161 of the altar. H4196

και αδωνιας εφοβηθη απο προσωπου σαλωμων και ανεστη και απηλθεν και επελαβετο των κερατων του θυσιαστηριου

Solomon was told, “Behold, Adonijah fears King Solomon; for, behold, he is hanging onto the horns of the altar, saying, ‘Let King Solomon swear to me first that he will not kill his servant with the sword.’ ”

και ανηγγελη τω σαλωμων λεγοντες ιδου αδωνιας εφοβηθη τον βασιλεα σαλωμων και κατεχει των κερατων του θυσιαστηριου λεγων ομοσατω μοι σημερον ο βασιλευς σαλωμων ει ου θανατωσει τον δουλον αυτου εν ρομφαια

So King Solomon sent, and they brought him down from the altar. He came and bowed down to King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, “Go to your house.”

και απεστειλεν ο βασιλευς σαλωμων και κατηνεγκεν αυτον απανωθεν του θυσιαστηριου και εισηλθεν και προσεκυνησεν τω βασιλει σαλωμων και ειπεν αυτω σαλωμων δευρο εις τον οικον σου

This news came to Joab; for Joab had followed Adonijah, although he didn’t follow Absalom. Joab fled to Yahweh’s Tent, and held onto the horns of the altar.

Then tidings H8052 came H935 (QalPerf) to Joab: H3097 for Joab H3097 had turned H5186 (QalPerf) after H310 Adonijah, H138 though he turned H5186 (QalPerf) not after H310 Absalom. και η ακοη ηλθεν εως ιωαβ του υιου σαρουιας οτι ιωαβ ην κεκλικως οπισω αδωνιου και οπισω σαλωμων ουκ εκλινεν και εφυγεν ιωαβ εις το σκηνωμα του κυριου και κατεσχεν των κερατων του θυσιαστηριου
