It will happen that as Yahweh rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Yahweh will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be plucked from the land that you are going in to possess.

He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and courageous; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them. I will be with you.”

You are happy, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by Yahweh, the shield of your help, the sword of your excellency? Your enemies will submit themselves to you. You will tread on their high places.”

Now therefore, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;

Now therefore, I pray you, swear H7650 (NiphImpv) unto me by the Lord, H3068 since H3588 I have shewed H6213 (QalPerf) you kindness, H2617 that ye will also shew H6213 (QalPerf) kindness H2617 unto my father’s H1 house, H1004 and give H5414 (QalPerf) me a true H571 token: H226

και νυν ομοσατε μοι κυριον τον θεον οτι ποιω υμιν ελεος και ποιησετε και υμεις ελεος εν τω οικω του πατρος μου

and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of Yahweh your God’s covenant, and the Levitical priests bearing it, then leave your place and follow it.

και ενετειλαντο τω λαω λεγοντες οταν ιδητε την κιβωτον της διαθηκης κυριου του θεου ημων και τους ιερεις ημων και τους λευιτας αιροντας αυτην απαρειτε απο των τοπων υμων και πορευεσθε οπισω αυτης

You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’”

και νυν εντειλαι τοις ιερευσιν τοις αιρουσιν την κιβωτον της διαθηκης λεγων ως αν εισελθητε επι μερους του υδατος του ιορδανου και εν τω ιορδανη στησεσθε

When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our enemies?”

και εγενετο ως ην ιησους εν ιεριχω και αναβλεψας τοις οφθαλμοις ειδεν ανθρωπον εστηκοτα εναντιον αυτου και η ρομφαια εσπασμενη εν τη χειρι αυτου και προσελθων ιησους ειπεν αυτω ημετερος ει η των υπεναντιων

The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.

And the captain H8269 of the Lord’s H3068 host H6635 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joshua, H3091 Loose H5394 (QalImpv) thy shoe H5275 from off thy foot; H7272 for the place H4725 whereon thou standest H5975 (QalActPtc) is holy. H6944 And Joshua H3091 did H6213 (QalImpf) so.

και λεγει ο αρχιστρατηγος κυριου προς ιησουν λυσαι το υποδημα εκ των ποδων σου ο γαρ τοπος εφ ω συ εστηκας αγιος εστιν

But as for you, only keep yourselves from what is devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.

And ye, in any wise H7535 keep H8104 (QalImpv) yourselves from the accursed thing, H2764 lest ye make yourselves accursed, H2763 (HiphImpf) when ye take H3947 (QalPerf) of the accursed thing, H2764 and make H7760 (QalPerf) the camp H4264 of Israel H3478 a curse, H2764 and trouble H5916 (QalPerf) it.

αλλα υμεις φυλαξασθε σφοδρα απο του αναθεματος μηποτε ενθυμηθεντες υμεις αυτοι λαβητε απο του αναθεματος και ποιησητε την παρεμβολην των υιων ισραηλ αναθεμα και εκτριψητε ημας

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joshua, H3091 Get thee up; H6965 (QalImpv) wherefore liest^§ H5307 (QalActPtc) thou thus upon thy face? H6440

He commanded them, saying, “Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Don’t go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.

και ενετειλατο αυτοις λεγων υμεις ενεδρευσατε οπισω της πολεως μη μακραν γινεσθε απο της πολεως και εσεσθε παντες ετοιμοι

and you shall rise up from the ambush, and take possession of the city; for Yahweh your God will deliver it into your hand.

υμεις δε εξαναστησεσθε εκ της ενεδρας και πορευσεσθε εις την πολιν

The men of Israel said to the Hivites, “What if you live among us? How could we make a covenant with you?”

και ειπαν οι υιοι ισραηλ προς τον χορραιον ορα μη εν εμοι κατοικεις και πως σοι διαθωμαι διαθηκην

They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.” Joshua said to them, “Who are you? Where do you come from?”

και ειπαν προς ιησουν οικεται σου εσμεν και ειπεν προς αυτους ιησους ποθεν εστε και ποθεν παραγεγονατε

Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, “Why have you deceived us, saying, ‘We are very far from you,’ when you live among us?

και συνεκαλεσεν αυτους ιησους και ειπεν αυτοις δια τι παρελογισασθε με λεγοντες μακραν απο σου εσμεν σφοδρα υμεις δε εγχωριοι εστε των κατοικουντων εν ημιν
