When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel,° saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

1 Samuel 1:20 Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for “heard by God.”

Wherefore it came to pass, when the time H3117 was come H8622 about after Hannah H2584 had conceived, H2029 (QalImpf) that she bare H3205 (QalImpf) a son, H1121 and called H7121 (QalImpf) his name H8034 Samuel, H8050 [saying], Because I have asked H7592 (QalPerf) him of the Lord. H3068

και συνελαβεν και εγενηθη τω καιρω των ημερων και ετεκεν υιον και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου σαμουηλ και ειπεν οτι παρα κυριου θεου σαβαωθ ητησαμην αυτον

But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, clothed with a linen ephod.

But Samuel H8050 ministered H8334 (PielPtc) before H6440 the Lord, H3068 [being] a child, H5288 girded H2296 (QalPasPtc) with a linen H906 ephod. H646

και σαμουηλ ην λειτουργων ενωπιον κυριου παιδαριον περιεζωσμενον εφουδ βαρ

Yahweh visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. The child Samuel grew before Yahweh.

And H3588 the Lord H3068 visited H6485 (QalPerf) Hannah, H2584 so that she conceived, H2029 (QalImpf) and bare H3205 (QalImpf) three H7969 sons H1121 and two H8147 daughters. H1323 And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 grew H1431 (QalImpf) before H5973 the Lord. H3068

και επεσκεψατο κυριος την ανναν και ετεκεν ετι τρεις υιους και δυο θυγατερας και εμεγαλυνθη το παιδαριον σαμουηλ ενωπιον κυριου

The child Samuel grew on, and increased in favor both with Yahweh and also with men.

And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 grew H1432 on, H1980 (QalActPtc) and was in favour H2896 both with the Lord, H3068 and also with men. H582

και το παιδαριον σαμουηλ επορευετο και εμεγαλυνετο και αγαθον και μετα κυριου και μετα ανθρωπων

The child Samuel ministered to Yahweh before Eli. Yahweh’s word was rare in those days. There were not many visions, then.

And the child H5288 Samuel H8050 ministered H8334 (PielPtc) unto the Lord H3068 before H6440 Eli. H5941 And the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 was precious H3368 in those days; H3117 [there was] no open H6555 (NiphPtc) vision. H2377

και το παιδαριον σαμουηλ ην λειτουργων τω κυριω ενωπιον ηλι του ιερεως και ρημα κυριου ην τιμιον εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις ουκ ην ορασις διαστελλουσα

and God’s lamp hadn’t yet gone out, and Samuel had laid down in Yahweh’s temple where God’s ark was,

And ere the lamp H5216 of God H430 went out H3518 (QalImpf) in the temple H1964 of the Lord, H3068 where the ark H727 of God H430 [was], and Samuel H8050 was laid down H7901 (QalActPtc) [to sleep];

και ο λυχνος του θεου πριν επισκευασθηναι και σαμουηλ εκαθευδεν εν τω ναω ου η κιβωτος του θεου

Yahweh called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”

That the Lord H3068 called H7121 (QalImpf) Samuel: H8050 and he answered, H559 (QalImpf) Here [am] I.

και εκαλεσεν κυριος σαμουηλ σαμουηλ και ειπεν ιδου εγω

Yahweh called yet again, “Samuel!” Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” He answered, “I didn’t call, my son. Lie down again.”

And the Lord H3068 called H7121 (QalInf) yet again, H3254 (HiphImpf) Samuel. H8050 And Samuel H8050 arose H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to Eli, H5941 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Here [am] I; for thou didst call H7121 (QalPerf) me. And he answered, H559 (QalImpf) I called H7121 (QalPerf) not, my son; H1121 lie down H7901 (QalImpv) again. H7725 (QalImpv)

και προσεθετο κυριος και εκαλεσεν σαμουηλ σαμουηλ και επορευθη προς ηλι το δευτερον και ειπεν ιδου εγω οτι κεκληκας με και ειπεν ου κεκληκα σε αναστρεφε καθευδε

Now Samuel didn’t yet know Yahweh, neither was Yahweh’s word yet revealed to him.

Now Samuel H8050 did not yet H2962 know H3045 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 neither was the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 yet revealed H1540 (NiphImpf) unto him.

και σαμουηλ πριν η γνωναι θεον και αποκαλυφθηναι αυτω ρημα κυριου

Yahweh called Samuel again the third time. He arose and went to Eli and said, “Here I am; for you called me.” Eli perceived that Yahweh had called the child.

And the Lord H3068 called H7121 (QalInf) Samuel H8050 again H3254 (HiphImpf) the third time. H7992 And he arose H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to Eli, H5941 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Here [am] I; for thou didst call H7121 (QalPerf) me. And Eli H5941 perceived H995 (QalImpf) that the Lord H3068 had called H7121 (QalActPtc) the child. H5288

και προσεθετο κυριος καλεσαι σαμουηλ εν τριτω και ανεστη και επορευθη προς ηλι και ειπεν ιδου εγω οτι κεκληκας με και εσοφισατο ηλι οτι κυριος κεκληκεν το παιδαριον

Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down. It shall be, if he calls you, that you shall say, ‘Speak, Yahweh; for your servant hears.’ ” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Therefore Eli H5941 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 Go, H3212 (QalImpv) lie down: H7901 (QalImpv) and it shall be, if he call H7121 (QalImpf) thee, that thou shalt say, H559 (QalPerf) Speak, H1696 (PielImpv) Lord; H3068 for thy servant H5650 heareth. H8085 (QalActPtc) So Samuel H8050 went H3212 (QalImpf) and lay down H7901 (QalImpf) in his place. H4725

και ειπεν αναστρεφε καθευδε τεκνον και εσται εαν καλεση σε και ερεις λαλει κυριε οτι ακουει ο δουλος σου και επορευθη σαμουηλ και εκοιμηθη εν τω τοπω αυτου

Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak; for your servant hears.”

And the Lord H3068 came, H935 (QalImpf) and stood, H3320 (HithImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) as at other times, H6471 Samuel, H8050 Samuel. H8050 Then Samuel H8050 answered, H559 (QalImpf) Speak; H1696 (PielImpv) for thy servant H5650 heareth. H8085 (QalActPtc)

και ηλθεν κυριος και κατεστη και εκαλεσεν αυτον ως απαξ και απαξ και ειπεν σαμουηλ λαλει οτι ακουει ο δουλος σου

Yahweh said to Samuel, “Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) to Samuel, H8050 Behold, I will do H6213 (QalActPtc) a thing H1697 in Israel, H3478 at which both H8147 the ears H241 of every one that heareth H8085 (QalActPtc) it shall tingle. H6750 (QalImpf)

και ειπεν κυριος προς σαμουηλ ιδου εγω ποιω τα ρηματα μου εν ισραηλ ωστε παντος ακουοντος αυτα ηχησει αμφοτερα τα ωτα αυτου

Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of Yahweh’s house. Samuel was afraid to show Eli the vision.

And Samuel H8050 lay H7901 (QalImpf) until the morning, H1242 and opened H6605 (QalImpf) the doors H1817 of the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068 And Samuel H8050 feared H3372 (QalPerf) to shew H5046 (HiphInf) Eli H5941 the vision. H4759

και κοιμαται σαμουηλ εως πρωι και ωρθρισεν το πρωι και ηνοιξεν τας θυρας οικου κυριου και σαμουηλ εφοβηθη απαγγειλαι την ορασιν τω ηλι

Then Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son!” He said, “Here I am.”

Then Eli H5941 called H7121 (QalImpf) Samuel, H8050 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Samuel, H8050 my son. H1121 And he answered, H559 (QalImpf) Here [am] I.

και ειπεν ηλι προς σαμουηλ σαμουηλ τεκνον και ειπεν ιδου εγω

Samuel told him every bit, and hid nothing from him. He said, “It is Yahweh. Let him do what seems good to him.”

And Samuel H8050 told H5046 (HiphImpf) him every whit, H1697 and hid H3582 (PielPerf) nothing from him. And he said, H559 (QalImpf) It [is] the Lord: H3068 let him do H6213 (QalImpf) what seemeth H5869 him good. H2896

και απηγγειλεν σαμουηλ παντας τους λογους και ουκ εκρυψεν απ αυτου και ειπεν ηλι κυριος αυτος το αγαθον ενωπιον αυτου ποιησει

Samuel grew, and Yahweh was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.

And Samuel H8050 grew, H1431 (QalImpf) and the Lord H3068 was with him, and did let none of his words H1697 fall H5307 (HiphPerf) to the ground. H776

και εμεγαλυνθη σαμουηλ και ην κυριος μετ αυτου και ουκ επεσεν απο παντων των λογων αυτου επι την γην

All Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Yahweh.

And all Israel H3478 from Dan H1835 even to Beersheba H884 knew H3045 (QalImpf) that Samuel H8050 [was] established H539 (NiphPtc) [to be] a prophet H5030 of the Lord. H3068

και εγνωσαν πας ισραηλ απο δαν και εως βηρσαβεε οτι πιστος σαμουηλ εις προφητην τω κυριω

Yahweh appeared again in Shiloh; for Yahweh revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by Yahweh’s word.

And the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphInf) again H3254 (HiphImpf) in Shiloh: H7887 for the Lord H3068 revealed H1540 (NiphPerf) himself to Samuel H8050 in Shiloh H7887 by the word H1697 of the Lord. H3068

και προσεθετο κυριος δηλωθηναι εν σηλωμ οτι απεκαλυφθη κυριος προς σαμουηλ και επιστευθη σαμουηλ προφητης γενεσθαι τω κυριω εις παντα ισραηλ απ ακρων της γης και εως ακρων και ηλι πρεσβυτης σφοδρα και οι υιοι αυτου πορευομενοι επορευοντο και πονηρα η οδος αυτων ενωπιον κυριου

The word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and encamped beside Ebenezer; and the Philistines encamped in Aphek.

And the word H1697 of Samuel H8050 came to all Israel. H3478 Now Israel H3478 went out H3318 (QalImpf) against H7125 (QalInf) the Philistines H6430 to battle, H4421 and pitched H2583 (QalImpf) beside Ebenezer: H72 and the Philistines H6430 pitched H2583 (QalPerf) in Aphek. H663

και εγενηθη εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις και συναθροιζονται αλλοφυλοι εις πολεμον επι ισραηλ και εξηλθεν ισραηλ εις απαντησιν αυτοις εις πολεμον και παρεμβαλλουσιν επι αβενεζερ και οι αλλοφυλοι παρεμβαλλουσιν εν αφεκ

Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, “If you are returning to Yahweh with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you, and direct your hearts to Yahweh, and serve him only; and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.”

And Samuel H8050 spake H559 (QalImpf) unto all the house H1004 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) If ye do return H7725 (QalActPtc) unto the Lord H3068 with all your hearts, H3824 [then] put away H5493 (HiphImpv) the strange H5236 gods H430 and Ashtaroth H6252 from among H8432 you, and prepare H3559 (HiphImpv) your hearts H3824 unto the Lord, H3068 and serve H5647 (QalImpv) him only: and he will deliver H5337 (HiphImpf) you out of the hand H3027 of the Philistines. H6430

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς παντα οικον ισραηλ λεγων ει εν ολη καρδια υμων υμεις επιστρεφετε προς κυριον περιελετε τους θεους τους αλλοτριους εκ μεσου υμων και τα αλση και ετοιμασατε τας καρδιας υμων προς κυριον και δουλευσατε αυτω μονω και εξελειται υμας εκ χειρος αλλοφυλων

Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to Yahweh for you.”

And Samuel H8050 said, H559 (QalImpf) Gather H6908 (QalImpv) all Israel H3478 to Mizpeh, H4708 and I will pray H6419 (HithImpf) for you unto the Lord. H3068

και ειπεν σαμουηλ αθροισατε παντα ισραηλ εις μασσηφαθ και προσευξομαι περι υμων προς κυριον

They gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Yahweh, and fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against Yahweh.” Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.

And they gathered together H6908 (NiphImpf) to Mizpeh, H4709 and drew H7579 (QalImpf) water, H4325 and poured [it] out H8210 (QalImpf) before H6440 the Lord, H3068 and fasted H6684 (QalImpf) on that day, H3117 and said H559 (QalImpf) there, We have sinned H2398 (QalPerf) against the Lord. H3068 And Samuel H8050 judged H8199 (QalImpf) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 in Mizpeh. H4708

και συνηχθησαν εις μασσηφαθ και υδρευονται υδωρ και εξεχεαν ενωπιον κυριου επι την γην και ενηστευσαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη και ειπαν ημαρτηκαμεν ενωπιον κυριου και εδικαζεν σαμουηλ τους υιους ισραηλ εις μασσηφαθ

The children of Israel said to Samuel, “Don’t stop crying to Yahweh our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.”

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 said H559 (QalImpf) to Samuel, H8050 Cease H2790 (HiphImpf) not to cry H2199 (QalInf) unto the Lord H3068 our God H430 for us, that he will save H3467 (HiphImpf) us out of the hand H3027 of the Philistines. H6430

και ειπαν οι υιοι ισραηλ προς σαμουηλ μη παρασιωπησης αφ ημων του μη βοαν προς κυριον θεον σου και σωσει ημας εκ χειρος αλλοφυλων

Samuel took a suckling lamb, and offered it for a whole burnt offering to Yahweh. Samuel cried to Yahweh for Israel, and Yahweh answered him.

And Samuel H8050 took H3947 (QalImpf) a H259 sucking H2461 lamb, H2924 and offered H5927 (HiphImpf) [it for] a burnt offering H5930 wholly H3632 unto the Lord: H3068 and Samuel H8050 cried H2199 (QalImpf) unto the Lord H3068 for Israel; H3478 and the Lord H3068 heard H6030 (QalImpf) him.

και ελαβεν σαμουηλ αρνα γαλαθηνον ενα και ανηνεγκεν αυτον ολοκαυτωσιν συν παντι τω λαω τω κυριω και εβοησεν σαμουηλ προς κυριον περι ισραηλ και επηκουσεν αυτου κυριος

As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

And as Samuel H8050 was offering up H5927 (HiphPtc) the burnt offering, H5930 the Philistines H6430 drew near H5066 (NiphPerf) to battle H4421 against Israel: H3478 but the Lord H3068 thundered H7481 (HiphImpf) with a great H1419 thunder H6963 on that day H3117 upon the Philistines, H6430 and discomfited H2000 (QalImpf) them; and they were smitten H5062 (NiphImpf) before H6440 Israel. H3478

και ην σαμουηλ αναφερων την ολοκαυτωσιν και αλλοφυλοι προσηγον εις πολεμον επι ισραηλ και εβροντησεν κυριος εν φωνη μεγαλη εν τη ημερα εκεινη επι τους αλλοφυλους και συνεχυθησαν και επταισαν ενωπιον ισραηλ

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer,° saying, “Yahweh helped us until now.”

1 Samuel 7:12 “Ebenezer” means “stone of help”.

Then Samuel H8050 took H3947 (QalImpf) a H259 stone, H68 and set H7760 (QalImpf) [it] between Mizpeh H4709 and Shen, H8129 and called H7121 (QalImpf) the name H8034 of it Ebenezer, H72 saying, H559 (QalImpf) Hitherto hath the Lord H3068 helped H5826 (QalPerf) us.

και ελαβεν σαμουηλ λιθον ενα και εστησεν αυτον ανα μεσον μασσηφαθ και ανα μεσον της παλαιας και εκαλεσεν το ονομα αυτου αβενεζερ λιθος του βοηθου και ειπεν εως ενταυθα εβοηθησεν ημιν κυριος

So the Philistines were subdued, and they stopped coming within the border of Israel. Yahweh’s hand was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

So the Philistines H6430 were subdued, H3665 (NiphImpf) and they came H935 (QalInf) no more H3254 (QalPerf) into the coast H1366 of Israel: H3478 and the hand H3027 of the Lord H3068 was against the Philistines H6430 all the days H3117 of Samuel. H8050

και εταπεινωσεν κυριος τους αλλοφυλους και ου προσεθεντο ετι προσελθειν εις οριον ισραηλ και εγενηθη χειρ κυριου επι τους αλλοφυλους πασας τας ημερας του σαμουηλ

Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

And Samuel H8050 judged H8199 (QalImpf) Israel H3478 all the days H3117 of his life. H2416

και εδικαζεν σαμουηλ τον ισραηλ πασας τας ημερας της ζωης αυτου

When Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.

And it came to pass, when Samuel H8050 was old, H2204 (QalPerf) that he made H7760 (QalImpf) his sons H1121 judges H8199 (QalActPtc) over Israel. H3478

και εγενετο ως εγηρασεν σαμουηλ και κατεστησεν τους υιους αυτου δικαστας τω ισραηλ

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel to Ramah.

Then all the elders H2205 of Israel H3478 gathered themselves together, H6908 (HithImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) to Samuel H8050 unto Ramah, H7414

και συναθροιζονται ανδρες ισραηλ και παραγινονται εις αρμαθαιμ προς σαμουηλ

But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” Samuel prayed to Yahweh.

But the thing H1697 displeased H3415 (QalImpf) H5869 Samuel, H8050 when they said, H559 (QalPerf) Give H5414 (QalImpv) us a king H4428 to judge H8199 (QalInf) us. And Samuel H8050 prayed H6419 (HithImpf) unto the Lord. H3068

και ην πονηρον το ρημα εν οφθαλμοις σαμουηλ ως ειπαν δος ημιν βασιλεα δικαζειν ημας και προσηυξατο σαμουηλ προς κυριον

Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me as the king over them.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 Hearken H8085 (QalImpv) unto the voice H6963 of the people H5971 in all that they say H559 (QalImpf) unto thee: for they have not rejected H3988 (QalPerf) thee, but they have rejected H3988 (QalPerf) me, that I should not reign H4427 (QalInf) over them.

και ειπεν κυριος προς σαμουηλ ακουε της φωνης του λαου καθα αν λαλησωσιν σοι οτι ου σε εξουθενηκασιν αλλ η εμε εξουδενωκασιν του μη βασιλευειν επ αυτων

Samuel told all Yahweh’s words to the people who asked him for a king.

And Samuel H8050 told H559 (QalImpf) all the words H1697 of the Lord H3068 unto the people H5971 that asked H7592 (QalActPtc) of him a king. H4428

και ειπεν σαμουηλ παν το ρημα κυριου προς τον λαον τους αιτουντας παρ αυτου βασιλεα

But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us,

Nevertheless the people H5971 refused H3985 (PielImpf) to obey H8085 (QalInf) the voice H6963 of Samuel; H8050 and they said, H559 (QalImpf) Nay; but we will have a king H4428 over us;

και ουκ ηβουλετο ο λαος ακουσαι του σαμουηλ και ειπαν αυτω ουχι αλλ η βασιλευς εσται εφ ημας

Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of Yahweh.

And Samuel H8050 heard H8085 (QalImpf) all the words H1697 of the people, H5971 and he rehearsed H1696 (PielImpf) them in the ears H241 of the Lord. H3068

και ηκουσεν σαμουηλ παντας τους λογους του λαου και ελαλησεν αυτους εις τα ωτα κυριου

Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to their voice, and make them a king.” Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Everyone go to your own city.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) to Samuel, H8050 Hearken H8085 (QalImpv) unto their voice, H6963 and make H4427 (HiphPerf) them a king. H4428 And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the men H582 of Israel, H3478 Go H3212 (QalImpv) ye every man H376 unto his city. H5892

και ειπεν κυριος προς σαμουηλ ακουε της φωνης αυτων και βασιλευσον αυτοις βασιλεα και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς ανδρας ισραηλ αποτρεχετω εκαστος εις την πολιν αυτου

They went up to the city. As they came within the city, behold, Samuel came out toward them to go up to the high place.

And they went up H5927 (QalImpf) into H8432 the city: H5892 [and] when they were come H935 (QalActPtc) into the city, H5892 behold, Samuel H8050 came out H3318 (QalActPtc) against H7125 (QalInf) them, for to go up H5927 (QalInf) to the high place. H1116

και αναβαινουσιν την πολιν αυτων εισπορευομενων εις μεσον της πολεως και ιδου σαμουηλ εξηλθεν εις απαντησιν αυτων του αναβηναι εις βαμα

Now Yahweh had revealed to Samuel a day before Saul came, saying,

Now the Lord H3068 had told H1540 (QalPerf) Samuel H8050 in his ear H241 a H259 day H3117 before H6440 Saul H7586 came, H935 (QalInf) saying, H559 (QalInf)

και κυριος απεκαλυψεν το ωτιον σαμουηλ ημερα μια εμπροσθεν του ελθειν προς αυτον σαουλ λεγων

When Samuel saw Saul, Yahweh said to him, “Behold, the man of whom I spoke to you! He will have authority over my people.”

And when Samuel H8050 saw H7200 (QalPerf) Saul, H7586 the Lord H3068 said H6030 (QalPerf) unto him, Behold the man H376 whom I spake H559 (QalPerf) to thee of! this same shall reign H6113 (QalImpf) over my people. H5971

και σαμουηλ ειδεν τον σαουλ και κυριος απεκριθη αυτω ιδου ο ανθρωπος ον ειπα σοι ουτος αρξει εν τω λαω μου

Then Saul approached Samuel in the gateway, and said, “Please tell me where the seer’s house is.”

Then Saul H7586 drew near H5066 (QalImpf) to Samuel H8050 in H8432 the gate, H8179 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Tell H5046 (HiphImpv) me, I pray thee, where H335 the seer’s H7200 (QalActPtc) house H1004 [is].

Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you are to eat with me today. In the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.

And Samuel H8050 answered H6030 (QalImpf) Saul, H7586 and said, H559 (QalImpf) I [am] the seer: H7200 (QalActPtc) go up H5927 (QalImpv) before H6440 me unto the high place; H1116 for ye shall eat H398 (QalPerf) with me to day, H3117 and to morrow H1242 I will let thee go, H7971 (PielPerf) and will tell H5046 (HiphImpf) thee all that [is] in thine heart. H3824

και απεκριθη σαμουηλ τω σαουλ και ειπεν εγω ειμι αυτος αναβηθι εμπροσθεν μου εις βαμα και φαγε μετ εμου σημερον και εξαποστελω σε πρωι και παντα τα εν τη καρδια σου απαγγελω σοι

Samuel took Saul and his servant and brought them into the guest room, and made them sit in the best place among those who were invited, who were about thirty persons.

And Samuel H8050 took H3947 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 and his servant, H5288 and brought H935 (HiphImpf) them into the parlour, H3957 and made them sit H5414 (QalImpf) in the chiefest H7218 place H4725 among them that were bidden, H7121 (QalPasPtc) which [were] about thirty H7970 persons. H376

και ελαβεν σαμουηλ τον σαουλ και το παιδαριον αυτου και εισηγαγεν αυτους εις το καταλυμα και εθετο αυτοις τοπον εν πρωτοις των κεκλημενων ωσει εβδομηκοντα ανδρων

Samuel said to the cook, “Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I said to you, ‘Set it aside.’ ”

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the cook, H2876 Bring H5414 (QalImpv) the portion H4490 which I gave H5414 (QalPerf) thee, of which I said H559 (QalPerf) unto thee, Set H7760 (QalImpv) it by thee.

και ειπεν σαμουηλ τω μαγειρω δος μοι την μεριδα ην εδωκα σοι ην ειπα σοι θειναι αυτην παρα σοι

The cook took up the thigh, and that which was on it, and set it before Saul. Samuel said, “Behold, that which has been reserved! Set it before yourself and eat; because it has been kept for you for the appointed time, for I said, ‘I have invited the people.’ ” So Saul ate with Samuel that day.

And the cook H2876 took up H7311 (HiphImpf) the shoulder, H7785 and [that] which [was] upon it, and set H7760 (QalImpf) [it] before H6440 Saul. H7586 And [Samuel] said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold that which is left! και υψωσεν ο μαγειρος την κωλεαν και παρεθηκεν αυτην ενωπιον σαουλ και ειπεν σαμουηλ τω σαουλ ιδου υπολειμμα παραθες αυτο ενωπιον σου και φαγε οτι εις μαρτυριον τεθειται σοι παρα τους αλλους αποκνιζε και εφαγεν σαουλ μετα σαμουηλ εν τη ημερα εκεινη

They arose early; and about daybreak, Samuel called to Saul on the housetop, saying, “Get up, that I may send you away.” Saul arose, and they both went outside, he and Samuel, together.

And they arose early: H7925 (HiphImpf) and it came to pass about the spring H5927 (QalInf) of the day, H7837 that Samuel H8050 called H7121 (QalImpf) Saul H7586 to the top of the house, H1406 saying, H559 (QalInf) Up, H6965 (QalImpv) that I may send thee away. και εκοιμηθη και εγενετο ως ανεβαινεν ο ορθρος και εκαλεσεν σαμουηλ τον σαουλ επι τω δωματι λεγων αναστα και εξαποστελω σε και ανεστη σαουλ και εξηλθεν αυτος και σαμουηλ εως εξω

As they were going down at the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, “Tell the servant to go on ahead of us.” He went ahead, then Samuel said, “But stand still first, that I may cause you to hear God’s message.”

αυτων καταβαινοντων εις μερος της πολεως και σαμουηλ ειπεν τω σαουλ ειπον τω νεανισκω και διελθετω εμπροσθεν ημων και συ στηθι ως σημερον και ακουσον ρημα θεου

Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, then kissed him and said, “Hasn’t Yahweh anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?

Then Samuel H8050 took H3947 (QalImpf) a vial H6378 of oil, H8081 and poured H3332 (QalImpf) [it] upon his head, H7218 and kissed H5401 (QalImpf) him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) [Is it] not because the Lord H3068 hath anointed H4886 (QalPerf) thee [to be] captain H5057 over his inheritance? H5159

και ελαβεν σαμουηλ τον φακον του ελαιου και επεχεεν επι την κεφαλην αυτου και εφιλησεν αυτον και ειπεν αυτω ουχι κεχρικεν σε κυριος εις αρχοντα επι τον λαον αυτου επι ισραηλ και συ αρξεις εν λαω κυριου και συ σωσεις αυτον εκ χειρος εχθρων αυτου κυκλοθεν και τουτο σοι το σημειον οτι εχρισεν σε κυριος επι κληρονομιαν αυτου εις αρχοντα

It was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart; and all those signs happened that day.

And it was [so], that when he had turned H6437 (HiphInf) his back H7926 to go H3212 (QalInf) from Samuel, H8050 God H430 gave H2015 (QalImpf) him another H312 heart: H3820 and all those signs H226 came H935 (QalImpf) to pass that day. H3117

και εγενηθη ωστε επιστραφηναι τω ωμω αυτου απελθειν απο σαμουηλ μετεστρεψεν αυτω ο θεος καρδιαν αλλην και ηλθεν παντα τα σημεια εν τη ημερα εκεινη
