Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them;

and the king doth appoint inspectors in all provinces of his kingdom, and they gather every young woman-virgin, of good appearance-unto Shushan the palace, unto the house of the women, unto the hand of Hege eunuch of the king, keeper of the women, and to give their purifications,

Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth, but he didn’t receive it.
So Esther’s H635 maids H5291 and her chamberlains H5631 came H935 (8799) and told H5046 (8686) [it] her. Then was the queen H4436 exceedingly H3966 grieved H2342 (8698); and she sent H7971 (8799) raiment H899 to clothe H3847 (8687) Mordecai H4782, and to take away H5493 (8687) his sackcloth H8242 from him: but he received H6901 (8765) [it] not.
And young women of Esther come in and her eunuchs, and declare it to her, and the queen is exceedingly pained, and sendeth garments to clothe Mordecai, and to turn aside his sackcloth from off him, and he hath not received them.

So, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to the citadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, Esther was taken into the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
So it came to pass, when the king’s H4428 commandment H1697 and his decree H1881 was heard H8085 (8736), and when many H7227 maidens H5291 were gathered together H6908 (8736) unto Shushan H7800 the palace H1002, to the custody H3027 of Hegai H1896, that Esther H635 was brought H3947 (8735) also unto the king’s H4428 house H1004, to the custody H3027 of Hegai H1896, keeper H8104 (8802) of the women H802.
And it cometh to pass, in the word of the king, even his law, being heard, and in many young women being gathered unto Shushan the palace, unto the hand of Hegai, that Esther is taken unto the house of the king, unto the hand of Hegai, keeper of the women,

He brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.
And he brought up H539 (8802) Hadassah H1919, that [is], Esther H635, his uncle’s H1730 daughter H1323: for she had neither father H1 nor mother H517, and the maid H5291 [was] fair H3303 H8389 and beautiful H2896 H4758; whom Mordecai H4782, when her father H1 and mother H517 were dead H4194, took H3947 (8804) for his own daughter H1323.
and he is supporting Hadassah-she is Esther-daughter of his uncle, for she hath neither father nor mother, and the young woman is of fair form, and of good appearance, and at the death of her father and her mother hath Mordecai taken her to him for a daughter.

The young woman then came to the king like this: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the women’s house to the king’s house.

“Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

and let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” The thing pleased the king, and he did so.

and the young woman who is good in the eyes of the king doth reign instead of Vashti;’ and the thing is good in the eyes of the king, and he doth so.

The maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness from him. He quickly gave her cosmetics and her portions of food, and the seven choice maidens who were to be given her out of the king’s house. He moved her and her maidens to the best place in the women’s house.
And the maiden H5291 pleased H3190 (8799) H5869 him, and she obtained H5375 (8799) kindness H2617 of him H6440; and he speedily H926 (8762) gave H5414 (8800) her her things for purification H8562, with such things as belonged H4490 to her, and seven H7651 maidens H5291, [which were] meet H7200 (8803) to be given H5414 (8800) her, out of the king’s H4428 house H1004: and he preferred H8138 (8762) her and her maids H5291 unto the best H2896 [place] of the house H1004 of the women H802.
and the young woman is good in his eyes, and she receiveth kindness before him, and he hasteneth her purifications and her portions-to give to her, and the seven young women who are provided-to give to her, from the house of the king, and he changeth her and her young women to a good place in the house of the women.
