Genesis 34 (WEBP)
[1] Dinah, the daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.
[2] Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. He took her, lay with her, and humbled her.
[3] His soul joined to Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young lady, and spoke kindly to the young lady.
[4] Shechem spoke to his father, Hamor, saying, “Get me this young lady as a wife.”
[5] Now Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah, his daughter; and his sons were with his livestock in the field. Jacob held his peace until they came.
[6] Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to talk with him.
[7] The sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it. The men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had done folly in Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, a thing that ought not to be done.
[8] Hamor talked with them, saying, “The soul of my son, Shechem, longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.
[9] Make marriages with us. Give your daughters to us, and take our daughters for yourselves.
[10] You shall dwell with us, and the land will be before you. Live and trade in it, and get possessions in it.”
[11] Shechem said to her father and to her brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you will tell me I will give.
[12] Ask me a great amount for a dowry, and I will give whatever you ask of me, but give me the young lady as a wife.”
[13] The sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with deceit when they spoke, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,
[14] and said to them, “We can’t do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised; for that is a reproach to us.
[15] Only on this condition will we consent to you. If you will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised,
[16] then will we give our daughters to you; and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
[17] But if you will not listen to us and be circumcised, then we will take our sister,° and we will be gone.”
[18] Their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor’s son.
[19] The young man didn’t wait to do this thing, because he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, and he was honored above all the house of his father.
[20] Hamor and Shechem, his son, came to the gate of their city, and talked with the men of their city, saying,
[21] “These men are peaceful with us. Therefore let them live in the land and trade in it. For behold, the land is large enough for them. Let’s take their daughters to us for wives, and let’s give them our daughters.
[22] Only on this condition will the men consent to us to live with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised, as they are circumcised.
[23] Won’t their livestock and their possessions and all their animals be ours? Only let’s give our consent to them, and they will dwell with us.”
[24] All who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor, and to Shechem his son; and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.
[25] On the third day, when they were sore, two of Jacob’s sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, each took his sword, came upon the unsuspecting city, and killed all the males.
[26] They killed Hamor and Shechem, his son, with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and went away.
[27] Jacob’s sons came on the dead, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.
[28] They took their flocks, their herds, their donkeys, that which was in the city, that which was in the field,
[29] and all their wealth. They took captive all their little ones and their wives, and took as plunder everything that was in the house.
[30] Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites. I am few in number. They will gather themselves together against me and strike me, and I will be destroyed, I and my house.”
[31] They said, “Should he deal with our sister as with a prostitute?”

[1] And Dinah H1783 the daughter H1323 of Leah H3812, which she bare H3205 (8804) unto Jacob H3290, went out H3318 (8799) to see H7200 (8800) the daughters H1323 of the land H776.
[2] And when Shechem H7927 the son H1121 of Hamor H2544 the Hivite H2340, prince H5387 of the country H776, saw H7200 (8799) her, he took H3947 (8799) her, and lay H7901 (8799) with her, and defiled her H6031 (8762).
[3] And his soul H5315 clave H1692 (8799) unto Dinah H1783 the daughter H1323 of Jacob H3290, and he loved H157 (8799) the damsel H5291, and spake H1696 (8762) kindly H3820 unto the damsel H5291.
[4] And Shechem H7927 spake H559 (8799) unto his father H1 Hamor H2544, saying H559 (8800), Get H3947 (8798) me this damsel H3207 to wife H802.
[5] And Jacob H3290 heard H8085 (8804) that he had defiled H2930 (8765) Dinah H1783 his daughter H1323: now his sons H1121 were with his cattle H4735 in the field H7704: and Jacob H3290 held his peace H2790 (8689) until they were come H935 (8800).
[6] And Hamor H2544 the father H1 of Shechem H7927 went out H3318 (8799) unto Jacob H3290 to commune H1696 (8763) with H854 him.
[7] And the sons H1121 of Jacob H3290 came H935 (8804) out of the field H7704 when they heard H8085 (8800) [it]: and the men H582 were grieved H6087 (8691), and they were very H3966 wroth H2734 (8799), because he had wrought H6213 (8804) folly H5039 in Israel H3478 in lying H7901 (8800) with Jacob’s H3290 daughter H1323; which thing ought not to be done H6213 (8735).
[8] And Hamor H2544 communed H1696 (8762) with them, saying H559 (8800), The soul H5315 of my son H1121 Shechem H7927 longeth H2836 (8804) for your daughter H1323: I pray you give H5414 (8798) her him to wife H802.
[9] And make ye marriages H2859 (8690) with us, [and] give H5414 (8799) your daughters H1323 unto us, and take H3947 (8799) our daughters H1323 unto you.
[10] And ye shall dwell H3427 (8799) with us: and the land H776 shall be H1961 (8799) before you H6440; dwell H3427 (8798) and trade H5503 (8804) ye therein, and get you possessions H270 (8734) therein.
[11] And Shechem H7927 said H559 (8799) unto her father H1 and unto her brethren H251, Let me find H4672 (8799) grace H2580 in your eyes H5869, and what ye shall say H559 (8799) unto me I will give H5414 (8799).
[12] Ask H7235 (8685) me never so much H3966 dowry H4119 and gift H4976, and I will give H5414 (8799) according as ye shall say H559 (8799) unto me: but give H5414 (8798) me the damsel H5291 to wife H802.
[13] And the sons H1121 of Jacob H3290 answered H6030 (8799) Shechem H7927 and Hamor H2544 his father H1 deceitfully H4820, and said H1696 (8762), because he had defiled H2930 (8765) Dinah H1783 their sister H269:
[14] And they said H559 (8799) unto them, We cannot H3808 H3201 (8799) do H6213 (8800) this thing H1697, to give H5414 (8800) our sister H269 to one H376 that is uncircumcised H6190; for that [were] a reproach H2781 unto us:
[15] But in this H2063 will we consent H225 (8735) unto you: If ye will be as we [be], that every male H2145 of you be circumcised H4135 (8736);
[16] Then will we give H5414 (8804) our daughters H1323 unto you, and we will take H3947 (8799) your daughters H1323 to us, and we will dwell H3427 (8804) with you, and we will become one H259 people H5971.
[17] But if ye will not hearken H8085 (8799) unto us, to be circumcised H4135 (8736); then will we take H3947 (8804) our daughter H1323, and we will be gone H1980 (8804).
[18] And their words H1697 pleased H3190 (8799) H5869 Hamor H2544, and Shechem H7927 Hamor’s H2544 son H1121.
[19] And the young man H5288 deferred H309 (8765) not to do H6213 (8800) the thing H1697, because he had delight H2654 (8804) in Jacob’s H3290 daughter H1323: and he [was] more honourable H3513 (8737) than all the house H1004 of his father H1.
[20] And Hamor H2544 and Shechem H7927 his son H1121 came H935 (8799) unto the gate H8179 of their city H5892, and communed H1696 (8762) with the men H582 of their city H5892, saying H559 (8800),
[21] These men H582 [are] peaceable H8003 with H854 us; therefore let them dwell H3427 (8799) in the land H776, and trade H5503 (8799) therein; for the land H776, behold, [it is] large H7342 enough H3027 for them H6440; let us take H3947 (8799) their daughters H1323 to us for wives H802, and let us give H5414 (8799) them our daughters H1323.
[22] Only herein H2063 will the men H582 consent H225 (8735) unto us for to dwell H3427 (8800) with us, to be one H259 people H5971, if every male H2145 among us be circumcised H4135 (8736), as they [are] circumcised H4135 (8737).
[23] [Shall] not their cattle H4735 and their substance H7075 and every beast H929 of theirs [be] ours? only let us consent H225 (8735) unto them, and they will dwell H3427 (8799) with us.
[24] And unto Hamor H2544 and unto Shechem H7927 his son H1121 hearkened H8085 (8799) all that went out H3318 (8802) of the gate H8179 of his city H5892; and every male H2145 was circumcised H4135 (8735), all that went out H3318 (8802) of the gate H8179 of his city H5892.
[25] And it came to pass on the third H7992 day H3117, when they were sore H3510 (8802), that two H8147 of the sons H1121 of Jacob H3290, Simeon H8095 and Levi H3878, Dinah’s H1783 brethren H251, took H3947 (8799) each man H376 his sword H2719, and came H935 (8799) upon the city H5892 boldly H983, and slew H2026 (8799) all the males H2145.
[26] And they slew H2026 (8804) Hamor H2544 and Shechem H7927 his son H1121 with the edge H6310 of the sword H2719, and took H3947 Dinah H1783 out H3947 (8799) of Shechem’s H7927 house H1004, and went out H3318 (8799).
[27] The sons H1121 of Jacob H3290 came H935 (8804) upon the slain H2491, and spoiled H962 (8799) the city H5892, because they had defiled H2930 (8765) their sister H269.
[28] They took H3947 (8804) their sheep H6629, and their oxen H1241, and their asses H2543, and that which [was] in the city H5892, and that which [was] in the field H7704,
[29] And all their wealth H2428, and all their little ones H2945, and their wives H802 took they captive H7617 (8804), and spoiled H962 (8799) even all that [was] in the house H1004.
[30] And Jacob H3290 said H559 (8799) to Simeon H8095 and Levi H3878, Ye have troubled H5916 (8804) me to make me to stink H887 (8687) among the inhabitants H3427 (8802) of the land H776, among the Canaanites H3669 and the Perizzites H6522: and I [being] few H4962 in number H4557, they shall gather themselves together H622 (8738) against me, and slay me H5221 (8689); and I shall be destroyed H8045 (8738), I and my house H1004.
[31] And they said H559 (8799), Should he deal H6213 (8799) with our sister H269 as with an harlot H2181 (8802)?
Young’s Literal Translation
Genesis 34 (YLT)
[1] And Dinah, daughter of Leah, whom she hath borne to Jacob, goeth out to look on the daughters of the land,
[2] and Shechem, son of Hamor the Hivite, a prince of the land, seeth her, and taketh her, and lieth with her, and humbleth her;
[3] and his soul cleaveth to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and he loveth the young person, and speaketh unto the heart of the young person.
[4] And Shechem speaketh unto Hamor his father, saying, ‘Take for me this damsel for a wife.’
[5] And Jacob hath heard that he hath defiled Dinah his daughter, and his sons were with his cattle in the field, and Jacob kept silent till their coming.
[6] And Hamor, father of Shechem, goeth out unto Jacob to speak with him;
[7] and the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard, and the men grieve themselves, and it is very displeasing to them, for folly he hath done against Israel, to lie with the daughter of Jacob-and so it is not done.
[8] And Hamor speaketh with them, saying, ‘Shechem, my son, his soul hath cleaved to your daughter; give her, I pray you, to him for a wife,
[9] and join ye in marriage with us; your daughters ye give to us, and our daughters ye take to yourselves,
[10] and with us ye dwell, and the land is before you; dwell ye and trade in it, and have possessions in it.’
[11] And Shechem saith unto her father, and unto her brethren, ‘Let me find grace in your eyes, and that which ye say unto me, I give;
[12] multiply on me exceedingly dowry and gift, and I give as ye say unto me, and give to me the young person for a wife.’
[13] And the sons of Jacob answer Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and they speak (because he defiled Dinah their sister),
[14] and say unto them, ‘We are not able to do this thing, to give our sister to one who hath a foreskin: for it is a reproach to us.
[15] ‘Only for this we consent to you; if ye be as we, to have every male of you circumcised,
[16] then we have given our daughters to you, and your daughters we take to ourselves, and we have dwelt with you, and have become one people;
[17] and if ye hearken not unto us to be circumcised, then we have taken our daughter, and have gone.’
[18] And their words are good in the eyes of Hamor, and in the eyes of Shechem, Hamor’s son;
[19] and the young man delayed not to do the thing, for he had delight in Jacob’s daughter, and he is honourable above all the house of his father.
[20] And Hamor cometh-Shechem his son also-unto the gate of their city, and they speak unto the men of their city, saying,
[21] ‘These men are peaceable with us; then let them dwell in the land, and trade in it; and the land, lo, is wide before them; their daughters let us take to ourselves for wives, and our daughters give to them.
[22] ‘Only for this do the men consent to us, to dwell with us, to become one people, in every male of us being circumcised, as they are circumcised;
[23] their cattle, and their substance, and all their beasts-are they not ours? only let us consent to them, and they dwell with us.’
[24] And unto Hamor, and unto Shechem his son, hearken do all those going out of the gate of his city, and every male is circumcised, all those going out of the gate of his city.
[25] And it cometh to pass, on the third day, in their being pained, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brethren, take each his sword, and come in against the city confidently, and slay every male;
[26] and Hamor, and Shechem his son, they have slain by the mouth of the sword, and they take Dinah out of Shechem’s house, and go out.
[27] Jacob’s sons have come in upon the wounded, and they spoil the city, because they had defiled their sister;
[28] their flock and their herd, and their asses, and that which is in the city, and that which is in the field, have they taken;
[29] and all their wealth, and all their infants, and their wives they have taken captive, and they spoil also all that is in the house.
[30] And Jacob saith unto Simeon and unto Levi, ‘Ye have troubled me, by causing me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanite, and among the Perizzite: and I am few in number, and they have been gathered against me, and have smitten me, and I have been destroyed, I and my house.’
[31] And they say, ‘As a harlot doth he make our sister?’
