Abimelech was prince over Israel three years.

He sent messengers to Abimelech craftily, saying, “Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brothers have come to Shechem; and behold, they incite the city against you.

και απεστειλεν αγγελους προς αβιμελεχ μετα δωρων λεγων ιδου γααλ υιος αβεδ και οι αδελφοι αυτου παραγεγονασιν εις σικιμα και οιδε πολιορκουσιν την πολιν επι σε

Abimelech rose up, and all the people who were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies.

She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”

Samson took hold of the two middle pillars on which the house rested and leaned on them, the one with his right hand and the other with his left.

His concubine played the prostitute against him, and went away from him to her father’s house to Bethlehem Judah, and was there for four months.

The children of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.

και τουτο το δικαιωμα εμπροσθεν εν τω ισραηλ επι την αγχιστειαν και επι το ανταλλαγμα του στησαι παν λογον και υπελυετο ο ανηρ το υποδημα αυτου και εδιδου τω πλησιον αυτου τω αγχιστευοντι την αγχιστειαν αυτου και τουτο ην μαρτυριον εν ισραηλ

Hannah prayed, and said, “My heart exults in Yahweh! My horn is exalted in Yahweh. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

When he made mention of God’s ark, Eli fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate; and his neck broke, and he died, for he was an old man and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.

και εγενετο ως εμνησθη της κιβωτου του θεου και επεσεν απο του διφρου οπισθιως εχομενος της πυλης και συνετριβη ο νωτος αυτου και απεθανεν οτι πρεσβυτης ο ανθρωπος και βαρυς και αυτος εκρινεν τον ισραηλ εικοσι ετη

δια τουτο ουκ επιβαινουσιν οι ιερεις δαγων και πας ο εισπορευομενος εις οικον δαγων επι βαθμον οικου δαγων εν αζωτω εως της ημερας ταυτης οτι υπερβαινοντες υπερβαινουσιν

As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel; but Yahweh thundered with a great thunder on that day on the Philistines and confused them; and they were struck down before Israel.

και ην σαμουηλ αναφερων την ολοκαυτωσιν και αλλοφυλοι προσηγον εις πολεμον επι ισραηλ και εβροντησεν κυριος εν φωνη μεγαλη εν τη ημερα εκεινη επι τους αλλοφυλους και συνεχυθησαν και επταισαν ενωπιον ισραηλ

Yahweh said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they tell you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me as the king over them.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 Hearken H8085 (QalImpv) unto the voice H6963 of the people H5971 in all that they say H559 (QalImpf) unto thee: for they have not rejected H3988 (QalPerf) thee, but they have rejected H3988 (QalPerf) me, that I should not reign H4427 (QalInf) over them.

και ειπεν κυριος προς σαμουηλ ακουε της φωνης του λαου καθα αν λαλησωσιν σοι οτι ου σε εξουθενηκασιν αλλ η εμε εξουδενωκασιν του μη βασιλευειν επ αυτων

Now therefore, listen to their voice. However, you shall protest solemnly to them, and shall show them the way of the king who will reign over them.”

Now therefore hearken H8085 (QalImpv) unto their voice: H6963 howbeit H389 yet protest H5749 (HiphImpf) solemnly H5749 (HiphInf) unto them, and shew H5046 (HiphPerf) them the manner H4941 of the king H4428 that shall reign H4427 (QalImpf) over them.

και νυν ακουε της φωνης αυτων πλην οτι διαμαρτυρομενος διαμαρτυρη αυτοις και απαγγελεις αυτοις το δικαιωμα του βασιλεως ος βασιλευσει επ αυτους

He said, “This will be the way of the king who shall reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them as his servants, for his chariots and to be his horsemen; and they will run before his chariots.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) This will be the manner H4941 of the king H4428 that shall reign H4427 (QalImpf) over you: He will take H3947 (QalImpf) your sons, H1121 and appoint H7760 (QalPerf) [them] for himself, for his chariots, H4818 and [to be] his horsemen; H6571 and [some] shall run H7323 (QalPerf) before H6440 his chariots. και ειπεν τουτο εσται το δικαιωμα του βασιλεως ος βασιλευσει εφ υμας τους υιους υμων λημψεται και θησεται αυτους εν αρμασιν αυτου και ιππευσιν αυτου και προτρεχοντας των αρματων αυτου

But the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel; and they said, “No, but we will have a king over us,

και ουκ ηβουλετο ο λαος ακουσαι του σαμουηλ και ειπαν αυτω ουχι αλλ η βασιλευς εσται εφ ημας

“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He will save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.”

Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, then kissed him and said, “Hasn’t Yahweh anointed you to be prince over his inheritance?

Then Samuel H8050 took H3947 (QalImpf) a vial H6378 of oil, H8081 and poured H3332 (QalImpf) [it] upon his head, H7218 and kissed H5401 (QalImpf) him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) [Is it] not because the Lord H3068 hath anointed H4886 (QalPerf) thee [to be] captain H5057 over his inheritance? H5159

και ελαβεν σαμουηλ τον φακον του ελαιου και επεχεεν επι την κεφαλην αυτου και εφιλησεν αυτον και ειπεν αυτω ουχι κεχρικεν σε κυριος εις αρχοντα επι τον λαον αυτου επι ισραηλ και συ αρξεις εν λαω κυριου και συ σωσεις αυτον εκ χειρος εχθρων αυτου κυκλοθεν και τουτο σοι το σημειον οτι εχρισεν σε κυριος επι κληρονομιαν αυτου εις αρχοντα

One from the same place answered, “Who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

και απεκριθη τις αυτων και ειπεν και τις πατηρ αυτου δια τουτο εγενηθη εις παραβολην η και σαουλ εν προφηταις

But you have today rejected your God, who himself saves you out of all your calamities and your distresses; and you have said to him, ‘No! Set a king over us!’ Now therefore present yourselves before Yahweh by your tribes and by your thousands.”

And ye have this day H3117 rejected H3988 (QalPerf) your God, H430 who himself saved H3467 (HiphPtc) you out of all your adversities H7451 and your tribulations; H6869 and ye have said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, [Nay], but set H7760 (QalImpf) a king H4428 over us. και υμεις σημερον εξουθενηκατε τον θεον ος αυτος εστιν υμων σωτηρ εκ παντων των κακων υμων και θλιψεων υμων και ειπατε ουχι αλλ η οτι βασιλεα στησεις εφ ημων και νυν καταστητε ενωπιον κυριου κατα τα σκηπτρα υμων και κατα τας φυλας υμων

Then Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabesh Gilead; and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.”

και εγενηθη ως μετα μηνα και ανεβη ναας ο αμμανιτης και παρεμβαλλει επι ιαβις γαλααδ και ειπον παντες οι ανδρες ιαβις προς ναας τον αμμανιτην διαθου ημιν διαθηκην και δουλευσομεν σοι

The people said to Samuel, “Who is he who said, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Bring those men, that we may put them to death!”

And the people H5971 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 Who [is] he that said, H559 (QalActPtc) Shall Saul H7586 reign H4427 (QalImpf) over us? bring H5414 (QalImpv) the men, H582 that we may put them to death. H4191 (HiphImpf)

και ειπεν ο λαος προς σαμουηλ τις ο ειπας οτι σαουλ ου βασιλευσει ημων παραδος τους ανδρας και θανατωσομεν αυτους

Samuel said to all Israel, “Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto all Israel, H3478 Behold, I have hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) unto your voice H6963 in all that ye said H559 (QalPerf) unto me, and have made H4427 (HiphImpf) a king H4428 over you.

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς παντα ανδρα ισραηλ ιδου ηκουσα φωνης υμων εις παντα οσα ειπατε μοι και εβασιλευσα εφ υμας βασιλεα

“When you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when Yahweh your God was your king.

And when ye saw H7200 (QalImpf) that Nahash H5176 the king H4428 of the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 came H935 (QalPerf) against you, ye said H559 (QalImpf) unto me, Nay; but a king H4428 shall reign H4427 (QalImpf) over us: when the Lord H3068 your God H430 [was] your king. H4428

και ειδετε οτι ναας βασιλευς υιων αμμων ηλθεν εφ υμας και ειπατε ουχι αλλ η οτι βασιλευς βασιλευσει εφ ημων και κυριος ο θεος ημων βασιλευς ημων

Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen and whom you have asked for. Behold, Yahweh has set a king over you.

Now therefore behold the king H4428 whom ye have chosen, H977 (QalPerf) [and] whom ye have desired! H7592 (QalPerf) and, behold, the Lord H3068 hath set H5414 (QalPerf) a king H4428 over you.

και νυν ιδου ο βασιλευς ον εξελεξασθε και ιδου δεδωκεν κυριος εφ υμας βασιλεα
