But God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night, and said to him, “Behold, you are a dead man, because of the woman whom you have taken; for she is a man’s wife.”

Now therefore, restore the man’s wife. For he is a prophet, and he will pray for you, and you will live. If you don’t restore her, know for sure that you will die, you, and all who are yours.”

νυν δε αποδος την γυναικα τω ανθρωπω οτι προφητης εστιν και προσευξεται περι σου και ζηση ει δε μη αποδιδως γνωθι οτι αποθανη συ και παντα τα σα

Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’

Besides, she is indeed my sister, the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

Abimelech took sheep and cattle, male servants and female servants, and gave them to Abraham, and restored Sarah, his wife, to him.

ελαβεν δε αβιμελεχ χιλια διδραχμα προβατα και μοσχους και παιδας και παιδισκας και εδωκεν τω αβρααμ και απεδωκεν αυτω σαρραν την γυναικα αυτου

Abraham prayed to God. So God healed Abimelech, his wife, and his female servants, and they bore children.

For Yahweh had closed up tight all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

οτι συγκλειων συνεκλεισεν κυριος εξωθεν πασαν μητραν εν τω οικω του αβιμελεχ ενεκεν σαρρας της γυναικος αβρααμ

He lived in the wilderness of Paran. His mother got a wife for him out of the land of Egypt.

I will make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

The servant said to him, “What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?”

ειπεν δε προς αυτον ο παις μηποτε ου βουλεται η γυνη πορευθηναι μετ εμου οπισω εις την γην ταυτην αποστρεψω τον υιον σου εις την γην οθεν εξηλθες εκειθεν

Yahweh, the God of heaven—who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your offspring—he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again.”

Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.

Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him.

My master made me swear, saying, ‘You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,

και ωρκισεν με ο κυριος μου λεγων ου λημψη γυναικα τω υιω μου απο των θυγατερων των χαναναιων εν οις εγω παροικω εν τη γη αυτων

but you shall go to my father’s house, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son.’

I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’

He said to me, ‘Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my relatives, and of my father’s house.

then she tells me, “Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,”—let her be the woman whom Yahweh has appointed for my master’s son.’

Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”

Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.

προσθεμενος δε αβρααμ ελαβεν γυναικα η ονομα χεττουρα

the field which Abraham purchased from the children of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife.

Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.

Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

When he had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

εγενετο δε πολυχρονιος εκει παρακυψας δε αβιμελεχ ο βασιλευς γεραρων δια της θυριδος ειδεν τον ισαακ παιζοντα μετα ρεβεκκας της γυναικος αυτου

Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’?” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’ ”

And Abimelech H40 called H7121 (QalImpf) Isaac, H3327 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold, of a surety H389 she [is] thy wife: H802 and how saidst H559 (QalPerf) thou, She [is] my sister? εκαλεσεν δε αβιμελεχ τον ισαακ και ειπεν αυτω αρα γε γυνη σου εστιν τι οτι ειπας αδελφη μου εστιν ειπεν δε αυτω ισαακ ειπα γαρ μηποτε αποθανω δι αυτην

Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

And Abimelech H40 said, H559 (QalImpf) What [is] this thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) unto us? one H259 of the people H5971 might lightly H4592 have lien H7901 (QalPerf) with thy wife, H802 and thou shouldest have brought H935 (HiphPerf) guiltiness H817 upon us.

ειπεν δε αυτω αβιμελεχ τι τουτο εποιησας ημιν μικρου εκοιμηθη τις του γενους μου μετα της γυναικος σου και επηγαγες εφ ημας αγνοιαν

Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

συνεταξεν δε αβιμελεχ παντι τω λαω αυτου λεγων πας ο απτομενος του ανθρωπου τουτου η της γυναικος αυτου θανατου ενοχος εσται

When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

Rebekah said to Isaac, “I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth. If Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these, of the daughters of the land, what good will my life do me?”

ειπεν δε ρεβεκκα προς ισαακ προσωχθικα τη ζωη μου δια τας θυγατερας των υιων χετ ει λημψεται ιακωβ γυναικα απο των θυγατερων της γης ταυτης ινα τι μοι ζην

Isaac called Jacob, blessed him, and commanded him, “You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

And Isaac H3327 called H7121 (QalImpf) Jacob, H3290 and blessed H1288 (PielImpf) him, and charged H6680 (PielImpf) him, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Thou shalt not take H3947 (QalImpf) a wife H802 of the daughters H1323 of Canaan. H3667

Arise, go to Paddan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father. Take a wife from there from the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother.

So Esau went to Ishmael, and took, in addition to the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

και επορευθη ησαυ προς ισμαηλ και ελαβεν την μαελεθ θυγατερα ισμαηλ του υιου αβρααμ αδελφην ναβαιωθ προς ταις γυναιξιν αυτου γυναικα

Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”

And Jacob H3290 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Laban, H3837 Give H3051 (QalImpv) [me] my wife, H802 for my days H3117 are fulfilled, H4390 (QalPerf) that I may go in H935 (QalImpf) unto her.

ειπεν δε ιακωβ προς λαβαν αποδος την γυναικα μου πεπληρωνται γαρ αι ημεραι μου οπως εισελθω προς αυτην

Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.

And Jacob H3290 did H6213 (QalImpf) so, and fulfilled H4390 (PielImpf) her week: H7620 and he gave H5414 (QalImpf) him Rachel H7354 his daughter H1323 to wife H802 also.

εποιησεν δε ιακωβ ουτως και ανεπληρωσεν τα εβδομα ταυτης και εδωκεν αυτω λαβαν ραχηλ την θυγατερα αυτου αυτω γυναικα

She gave him Bilhah her servant as wife, and Jacob went in to her.

And she gave H5414 (QalImpf) him Bilhah H1090 her handmaid H8198 to wife: H802 and Jacob H3290 went in H935 (QalImpf) unto her.

και εδωκεν αυτω βαλλαν την παιδισκην αυτης αυτω γυναικα εισηλθεν δε προς αυτην ιακωβ

When Leah saw that she had finished bearing, she took Zilpah, her servant, and gave her to Jacob as a wife.

When Leah H3812 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that she had left H5975 (QalPerf) bearing, H3205 (QalInf) she took H3947 (QalImpf) Zilpah H2153 her maid, H8198 and gave H5414 (QalImpf) her Jacob H3290 to wife. H802

ειδεν δε λεια οτι εστη του τικτειν και ελαβεν ζελφαν την παιδισκην αυτης και εδωκεν αυτην τω ιακωβ γυναικα

Give me my wives and my children for whom I have served you, and let me go; for you know my service with which I have served you.”

αποδος τας γυναικας μου και τα παιδια περι ων δεδουλευκα σοι ινα απελθω συ γαρ γινωσκεις την δουλειαν ην δεδουλευκα σοι

Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives on the camels,

Then Jacob H3290 rose up, H6965 (QalImpf) and set H5375 (QalImpf) his sons H1121 and his wives H802 upon camels; H1581

αναστας δε ιακωβ ελαβεν τας γυναικας αυτου και τα παιδια αυτου επι τας καμηλους

She said to her father, “Don’t let my lord be angry that I can’t rise up before you; for I’m having my period.” He searched, but didn’t find the teraphim.

και ειπεν τω πατρι αυτης μη βαρεως φερε κυριε ου δυναμαι αναστηναι ενωπιον σου οτι το κατ εθισμον των γυναικων μοι εστιν ηρευνησεν δε λαβαν εν ολω τω οικω και ουχ ευρεν τα ειδωλα

If you afflict my daughters, or if you take wives in addition to my daughters, no man is with us; behold, God is witness between me and you.”

ει ταπεινωσεις τας θυγατερας μου ει λημψη γυναικας επι ταις θυγατρασιν μου ορα ουθεις μεθ ημων εστιν

He rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of the Jabbok.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
