Yahweh says, “What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after worthless vanity, and have become worthless?

ταδε λεγει κυριος τι ευροσαν οι πατερες υμων εν εμοι πλημμελημα οτι απεστησαν μακραν απ εμου και επορευθησαν οπισω των ματαιων και εματαιωθησαν

who tell wood, ‘You are my father,’ and a stone, ‘You have given birth to me,’ for they have turned their back to me, and not their face, but in the time of their trouble they will say, ‘Arise, and save us!’

τω ξυλω ειπαν οτι πατηρ μου ει συ και τω λιθω συ εγεννησας με και εστρεψαν επ εμε νωτα και ου προσωπα αυτων και εν τω καιρω των κακων αυτων ερουσιν αναστα και σωσον ημας

Will you not from this time cry to me, ‘My Father, you are the guide of my youth!’?

ουχ ως οικον με εκαλεσας και πατερα και αρχηγον της παρθενιας σου

In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together out of the land of the north to the land that I gave for an inheritance to your fathers.

εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις συνελευσονται οικος ιουδα επι τον οικον του ισραηλ και ηξουσιν επι το αυτο απο γης βορρα και απο πασων των χωρων επι την γην ην κατεκληρονομησα τους πατερας αυτων

“But I said, ‘How I desire to put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the armies of the nations!’ and I said, ‘You shall call me “My Father”, and shall not turn away from following me.’

και εγω ειπα γενοιτο κυριε οτι ταξω σε εις τεκνα και δωσω σοι γην εκλεκτην κληρονομιαν θεου παντοκρατορος εθνων και ειπα πατερα καλεσετε με και απ εμου ουκ αποστραφησεσθε

But the shameful thing has devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

η δε αισχυνη καταναλωσεν τους μοχθους των πατερων ημων απο νεοτητος ημων τα προβατα αυτων και τους μοσχους αυτων και τους υιους αυτων και τας θυγατερας αυτων

Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Yahweh our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. We have not obeyed Yahweh our God’s voice.”

εκοιμηθημεν εν τη αισχυνη ημων και επεκαλυψεν ημας η ατιμια ημων διοτι εναντι του θεου ημων ημαρτομεν ημεις και οι πατερες ημων απο νεοτητος ημων εως της ημερας ταυτης και ουχ υπηκουσαμεν της φωνης κυριου του θεου ημων

Therefore Yahweh says, “Behold, I will lay stumbling blocks before this people. The fathers and the sons together will stumble against them. The neighbor and his friend will perish.”

For I didn’t speak to your fathers or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices;

Yet they didn’t listen to me or incline their ear, but made their neck stiff. They did worse than their fathers.

επεστραφησαν επι τας αδικιας των πατερων αυτων των προτερον οι ουκ ηθελον εισακουσαι των λογων μου και ιδου αυτοι βαδιζουσιν οπισω θεων αλλοτριων του δουλευειν αυτοις και διεσκεδασαν οικος ισραηλ και οικος ιουδα την διαθηκην μου ην διεθεμην προς τους πατερας αυτων

For even your brothers, and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you! Even they have cried aloud after you! Don’t believe them, though they speak beautiful words to you.

I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together,” says Yahweh: “I will not pity, spare, or have compassion, that I should not destroy them.” ’ ”

For Yahweh says concerning the sons and concerning the daughters who are born in this place, and concerning their mothers who bore them, and concerning their fathers who became their father in this land:

For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 concerning the sons H1121 and concerning the daughters H1323 that are born H3205 (HiphPtc) in this place, H4725 and concerning their mothers H517 that bare H3205 (QalActPtc) them, and concerning their fathers H1 that begat H3209 them in this land; H776

οτι ταδε λεγει κυριος περι των υιων και περι των θυγατερων των γεννωμενων εν τω τοπω τουτω και περι των μητερων αυτων των τετοκυιων αυτους και περι των πατερων αυτων των γεγεννηκοτων αυτους εν τη γη ταυτη

Men won’t break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead. Men won’t give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

και ου μη κλασθη αρτος εν πενθει αυτων εις παρακλησιν επι τεθνηκοτι ου ποτιουσιν αυτον ποτηριον εις παρακλησιν επι πατρι και μητρι αυτου

then you shall tell them, ‘Because your fathers have forsaken me,’ says Yahweh, ‘and have walked after other gods, have served them, have worshiped them, have forsaken me, and have not kept my law.

και ερεις αυτοις ανθ ων εγκατελιπον με οι πατερες υμων λεγει κυριος και ωχοντο οπισω θεων αλλοτριων και εδουλευσαν αυτοις και προσεκυνησαν αυτοις και εμε εγκατελιπον και τον νομον μου ουκ εφυλαξαντο

You have done evil more than your fathers, for behold, you each walk after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that you don’t listen to me.

Therefore I will cast you out of this land into the land that you have not known, neither you nor your fathers. There you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’

και απορριψω υμας απο της γης ταυτης εις την γην ην ουκ ηδειτε υμεις και οι πατερες υμων και δουλευσετε εκει θεοις ετεροις οι ου δωσουσιν υμιν ελεος

but, ‘As Yahweh lives, who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries where he had driven them.’ I will bring them again into their land that I gave to their fathers.

αλλα ζη κυριος ος ανηγαγεν τον οικον ισραηλ απο γης βορρα και απο πασων των χωρων ου εξωσθησαν εκει και αποκαταστησω αυτους εις την γην αυτων ην εδωκα τοις πατρασιν αυτων

Yahweh, my strength, my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations will come to you from the ends of the earth, and will say, “Our fathers have inherited nothing but lies, vanity and things in which there is no profit.

O Lord, H3068 my strength, H5797 and my fortress, H4581 and my refuge H4498 in the day H3117 of affliction, H6869 the Gentiles H1471 shall come H935 (QalImpf) unto thee from the ends H657 of the earth, H776 and shall say, H559 (QalImpf) Surely our fathers H1 have inherited H5157 (QalPerf) lies, H8267 vanity, H1892 and [things] wherein [there is] no profit. κυριε ισχυς μου και βοηθεια μου και καταφυγη μου εν ημερα κακων προς σε εθνη ηξουσιν απ εσχατου της γης και ερουσιν ως ψευδη εκτησαντο οι πατερες ημων ειδωλα και ουκ εστιν εν αυτοις ωφελημα

Don’t carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day. Don’t do any work, but make the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.

και μη εκφερετε βασταγματα εξ οικιων υμων εν τη ημερα των σαββατων και παν εργον ου ποιησετε αγιασατε την ημεραν των σαββατων καθως ενετειλαμην τοις πατρασιν υμων και ουκ ηκουσαν και ουκ εκλιναν το ους αυτων

Because they have forsaken me, and have defiled this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods that they didn’t know—they, their fathers, and the kings of Judah—and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

ανθ ων εγκατελιπον με και απηλλοτριωσαν τον τοπον τουτον και εθυμιασαν εν αυτω θεοις αλλοτριοις οις ουκ ηδεισαν αυτοι και οι πατερες αυτων και οι βασιλεις ιουδα επλησαν τον τοπον τουτον αιματων αθωων

Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, “A boy is born to you,” making him very glad.

επικαταρατος ο ανθρωπος ο ευαγγελισαμενος τω πατρι μου λεγων ετεχθη σοι αρσεν ευφραινομενος

For Yahweh says touching Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, and who went out of this place: “He won’t return there any more.

“Should you reign because you strive to excel in cedar? Didn’t your father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him.

μη βασιλευσεις οτι συ παροξυνη εν αχαζ τω πατρι σου ου φαγονται και ου πιονται βελτιον ην σε ποιειν κριμα και δικαιοσυνην καλην

They intend to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they each tell his neighbor, as their fathers forgot my name because of Baal.

^[37:3] οτι ιδου ημεραι ερχονται φησιν κυριος και αποστρεψω την αποικιαν λαου μου ισραηλ και ιουδα ειπεν κυριος και αποστρεψω αυτους εις την γην ην εδωκα τοις πατρασιν αυτων και κυριευσουσιν αυτης

They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.

You will die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will make a burning for you. They will lament you, saying, “Ah Lord!” for I have spoken the word,’ says Yahweh.”

But they said, “We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, ‘You shall drink no wine, neither you nor your children, forever.
