Where then are your wise men? Let them tell you now; and let them know what Yahweh of Armies has purposed concerning Egypt.

που εισιν νυν οι σοφοι σου και αναγγειλατωσαν σοι και ειπατωσαν τι βεβουλευται κυριος σαβαωθ επ αιγυπτον

In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will tremble and fear because of the shaking of Yahweh of Armies’s hand, which he shakes over them.

In that day H3117 shall Egypt H4714 be like unto women: H802 and it shall be afraid H2729 (QalPerf) and fear H6342 (QalPerf) because H6440 of the shaking H8573 of the hand H3027 of the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 which he shaketh H5130 (HiphPtc) over it.

τη δε ημερα εκεινη εσονται οι αιγυπτιοι ως γυναικες εν φοβω και εν τρομω απο προσωπου της χειρος κυριου σαβαωθ ην αυτος επιβαλει αυτοις

The land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt. Everyone to whom mention is made of it will be afraid, because of the plans of Yahweh of Armies, which he determines against it.

And the land H127 of Judah H3063 shall be a terror H2283 unto Egypt, H4714 every one that maketh mention H2142 (HiphImpf) thereof shall be afraid H6342 (QalImpf) in himself, because H6440 of the counsel H6098 of the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 which he hath determined H3289 (QalActPtc) against it.

και εσται η χωρα των ιουδαιων τοις αιγυπτιοις εις φοβητρον πας ος εαν ονομαση αυτην αυτοις φοβηθησονται δια την βουλην ην βεβουλευται κυριος επ αυτην

Yahweh said, “As my servant Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and a wonder concerning Egypt and concerning Ethiopia,

και ειπεν κυριος ον τροπον πεπορευται ησαιας ο παις μου γυμνος και ανυποδετος τρια ετη εσται σημεια και τερατα τοις αιγυπτιοις και αιθιοψιν

Therefore my thighs are filled with anguish. Pains have seized me, like the pains of a woman in labor. I am in so much pain that I can’t hear. I am so dismayed that I can’t see.

δια τουτο ενεπλησθη η οσφυς μου εκλυσεως και ωδινες ελαβον με ως την τικτουσαν ηδικησα το μη ακουσαι εσπουδασα το μη βλεπειν

Therefore I said, “Look away from me. I will weep bitterly. Don’t labor to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

δια τουτο ειπα αφετε με πικρως κλαυσομαι μη κατισχυσητε παρακαλειν με επι το συντριμμα της θυγατρος του γενους μου

The Lord, Yahweh of Armies says, “Go, get yourself to this treasurer, even to Shebna, who is over the house, and say,

ταδε λεγει κυριος σαβαωθ πορευου εις το παστοφοριον προς σομναν τον ταμιαν και ειπον αυτω

Who has planned this against Tyre, the giver of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are the honorable of the earth?

Who hath taken this counsel H3289 (QalPerf) against Tyre, H6865 the crowning H5849 (HiphPtc) [city], whose merchants H5503 (QalActPtc) [are] princes, H8269 whose traffickers H3667 [are] the honourable H3513 (NiphPtc) of the earth? H776

τις ταυτα εβουλευσεν επι τυρον μη ησσων εστιν η ουκ ισχυει οι εμποροι αυτης ενδοξοι αρχοντες της γης

He has stretched out his hand over the sea. He has shaken the kingdoms. Yahweh has ordered the destruction of Canaan’s strongholds.

η δε χειρ σου ουκετι ισχυει κατα θαλασσαν η παροξυνουσα βασιλεις κυριος σαβαωθ ενετειλατο περι χανααν απολεσαι αυτης την ισχυν

Therefore the curse has devoured the earth, and those who dwell therein are found guilty. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men are left.

δια τουτο αρα εδεται την γην οτι ημαρτοσαν οι κατοικουντες αυτην δια τουτο πτωχοι εσονται οι ενοικουντες εν τη γη και καταλειφθησονται ανθρωποι ολιγοι

There is a crying in the streets because of the wine. All joy is darkened. The mirth of the land is gone.

Fear, the pit, and the snare are on you who inhabit the earth.

Therefore a strong people will glorify you. A city of awesome nations will fear you.

δια τουτο ευλογησει σε ο λαος ο πτωχος και πολεις ανθρωπων αδικουμενων ευλογησουσιν σε

He will destroy in this mountain the surface of the covering that covers all peoples, and the veil that is spread over all nations.

εν τω ορει τουτω παραδος ταυτα παντα τοις εθνεσιν η γαρ βουλη αυτη επι παντα τα εθνη

In that day, Yahweh with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan, the fleeing serpent, and leviathan, the twisted serpent; and he will kill the dragon that is in the sea.

τη ημερα εκεινη επαξει ο θεος την μαχαιραν την αγιαν και την μεγαλην και την ισχυραν επι τον δρακοντα οφιν φευγοντα επι τον δρακοντα οφιν σκολιον και ανελει τον δρακοντα

When its boughs are withered, they will be broken off. The women will come and set them on fire, for they are a people of no understanding. Therefore he who made them will not have compassion on them, and he who formed them will show them no favor.

I will encamp against you all around you, and will lay siege against you with posted troops. I will raise siege works against you.

και εσται ως ο ενυπνιαζομενος εν υπνω ο πλουτος των εθνων παντων οσοι επεστρατευσαν επι αριηλ και παντες οι στρατευσαμενοι επι ιερουσαλημ και παντες οι συνηγμενοι επ αυτην και θλιβοντες αυτην

It will be like when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he eats; but he awakes, and his hunger isn’t satisfied; or like when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he drinks; but he awakes, and behold, he is faint, and he is still thirsty. The multitude of all the nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like that.

It shall even be as when an hungry H7457 [man] dreameth, H2492 (QalImpf) and, behold, he eateth; H398 (QalActPtc) but he awaketh, H6974 (HiphPerf) and his soul H5315 is empty: H7386 or as when H834 a thirsty man H6771 dreameth, H2492 (QalImpf) and, behold, he drinketh; H8354 (QalActPtc) but he awaketh, H6974 (HiphPerf) and, behold, [he is] faint, H5889 and his soul H5315 hath appetite: H8264 (QalActPtc) so shall the multitude H1995 of all the nations H1471 be, that fight H6633 (QalActPtc) against mount H2022 Zion. For Yahweh has poured out on you a spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes, the prophets; and he has covered your heads, the seers.

οτι πεποτικεν υμας κυριος πνευματι κατανυξεως και καμμυσει τους οφθαλμους αυτων και των προφητων αυτων και των αρχοντων αυτων οι ορωντες τα κρυπτα

They shall all be ashamed because of a people that can’t profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.”

but you said, “No, for we will flee on horses;” therefore you will flee; and, “We will ride on the swift;” therefore those who pursue you will be swift.

Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.

For Yahweh says to me, “As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him, will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for their noise, so Yahweh of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.

For thus hath the Lord H3068 spoken H559 (QalPerf) unto me, Like as the lion H738 and the young lion H3715 roaring H1897 (QalImpf) on his prey, H2964 when a multitude H4393 of shepherds H7462 (QalActPtc) is called forth H7121 (NiphImpf) against him, [he] will not be afraid H2865 (NiphImpf) of their voice, H6963 nor abase H6031 (QalImpf) himself for the noise H1995 of them: so shall the Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 come down H3381 (QalImpf) to fight H6633 (QalInf) for mount H2022 Zion, H6726 and for the hill H1389 thereof.

οτι ουτως ειπεν μοι κυριος ον τροπον εαν βοηση ο λεων η ο σκυμνος επι τη θηρα η ελαβεν και κεκραξη επ αυτη εως αν εμπλησθη τα ορη της φωνης αυτου και ηττηθησαν και το πληθος του θυμου επτοηθησαν ουτως καταβησεται κυριος σαβαωθ επιστρατευσαι επι το ορος το σιων επι τα ορη αυτης

For days beyond a year you will be troubled, you careless women; for the vintage will fail. The harvest won’t come.

ημερας ενιαυτου μνειαν ποιησασθε εν οδυνη μετ ελπιδος ανηλωται ο τρυγητος πεπαυται ο σπορος και ουκετι μη ελθη

Blessed are you who sow beside all waters, who send out the feet of the ox and the donkey.

For Yahweh is enraged against all the nations, and angry with all their armies. He has utterly destroyed them. He has given them over for slaughter.

But the pelican and the porcupine will possess it. The owl and the raven will dwell in it. He will stretch the line of confusion over it, and the plumb line of emptiness.

και κατοικησουσιν εν αυτη ορνεα και εχινοι και ιβεις και κορακες και επιβληθησεται επ αυτην σπαρτιον γεωμετριας ερημου και ονοκενταυροι οικησουσιν εν αυτη

Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder came out to him.

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

He sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests, covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz.

He heard news concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “He has come out to fight against you.” When he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

εξηλθεν θαρακα βασιλευς αιθιοπων πολιορκησαι αυτον και ακουσας απεστρεψεν και απεστειλεν αγγελους προς εζεκιαν λεγων

this is the word which Yahweh has spoken concerning him: The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

ουτος ο λογος ον ελαλησεν περι αυτου ο θεος εφαυλισεν σε και εμυκτηρισεν σε παρθενος θυγατηρ σιων επι σοι κεφαλην εκινησεν θυγατηρ ιερουσαλημ

Whom have you defied and blasphemed? Against whom have you exalted your voice and lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel.

Whom hast thou reproached H2778 (PielPerf) and blasphemed? H1442 (PielPerf) and against whom hast thou exalted H7311 (HiphPerf) [thy] voice, H6963 and lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) thine eyes H5869 on high? H4791 [even] against the Holy One H6918 of Israel. H3478

τινα ωνειδισας και παρωξυνας η προς τινα υψωσας την φωνην σου και ουκ ηρας εις υψος τους οφθαλμους σου εις τον αγιον του ισραηλ

“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there, neither will he come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 concerning the king H4428 of Assyria, H804 He shall not come H935 (QalImpf) into this city, H5892 nor shoot H3384 (HiphImpf) an arrow H2671 there, nor come before H6923 (PielImpf) it with shields, H4043 nor cast H8210 (QalImpf) a bank H5550 against it.

δια τουτο ουτως λεγει κυριος επι βασιλεα ασσυριων ου μη εισελθη εις την πολιν ταυτην ουδε μη βαλη επ αυτην βελος ουδε μη επιβαλη επ αυτην θυρεον ουδε μη κυκλωση επ αυτην χαρακα

What will I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it. I will walk carefully all my years because of the anguish of my soul.

και αφειλατο μου την οδυνην της ψυχης

Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his precious things, the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures. There was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn’t show them.

και εχαρη επ αυτοις εζεκιας χαραν μεγαλην και εδειξεν αυτοις τον οικον του νεχωθα και της στακτης και των θυμιαματων και του μυρου και του αργυριου και του χρυσιου και παντας τους οικους των σκευων της γαζης και παντα οσα ην εν τοις θησαυροις αυτου και ουκ ην ουθεν ο ουκ εδειξεν εζεκιας εν τω οικω αυτου

It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,

ο κατεχων τον γυρον της γης και οι ενοικουντες εν αυτη ως ακριδες ο στησας ως καμαραν τον ουρανον και διατεινας ως σκηνην κατοικειν

Yahweh will go out like a mighty man. He will stir up zeal like a man of war. He will raise a war cry. Yes, he will shout aloud. He will triumph over his enemies.

The Lord H3068 shall go forth H3318 (QalImpf) as a mighty man, H1368 he shall stir up H5782 (HiphImpf) jealousy H7068 like a man H376 of war: H4421 he shall cry, H7321 (HiphImpf) yea, roar; H6873 (HiphImpf) he shall prevail H1396 (HithImpf) against his enemies. H341 (QalActPtc)

κυριος ο θεος των δυναμεων εξελευσεται και συντριψει πολεμον επεγερει ζηλον και βοησεται επι τους εχθρους αυτου μετα ισχυος

Therefore he poured the fierceness of his anger on him, and the strength of battle. It set him on fire all around, but he didn’t know. It burned him, but he didn’t take it to heart.”

και επηγαγεν επ αυτους οργην θυμου αυτου και κατισχυσεν αυτους πολεμος και οι συμφλεγοντες αυτους κυκλω και ουκ εγνωσαν εκαστος αυτων ουδε εθεντο επι ψυχην

He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself and says, “Aha! I am warm. I have seen the fire.”

ου το ημισυ αυτου κατεκαυσαν εν πυρι και καυσαντες επεψαν αρτους επ αυτων και επ αυτου κρεας οπτησας εφαγεν και ενεπλησθη και θερμανθεις ειπεν ηδυ μοι οτι εθερμανθην και ειδον πυρ

No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, “I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?”

And none considereth H7725 (HiphImpf) in his heart, H3820 neither [is there] knowledge H1847 nor understanding H8394 to say, H559 (QalInf) I have burned H8313 (QalPerf) part H2677 of it in H1119 the fire; H784 yea, also I have baked H644 (QalPerf) bread H3899 upon the coals H1513 thereof; I have roasted H6740 (QalImpf) flesh, H1320 and eaten H398 (QalImpf) [it]: and shall I make H6213 (QalImpf) the residue H3499 thereof an abomination? H8441 shall I fall down H5456 (QalImpf) to the stock H944 of a tree? H6086

και ουκ ελογισατο τη καρδια αυτου ουδε ανελογισατο εν τη ψυχη αυτου ουδε εγνω τη φρονησει οτι το ημισυ αυτου κατεκαυσεν εν πυρι και επεψεν επι των ανθρακων αυτου αρτους και οπτησας κρεας εφαγεν και το λοιπον αυτου εις βδελυγμα εποιησεν και προσκυνουσιν αυτω

Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel and his Maker says: “You ask me about the things that are to come, concerning my sons, and you command me concerning the work of my hands!

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 the Holy One H6918 of Israel, H3478 and his Maker, H3335 (QalActPtc) Ask H7592 (QalImpv) me of things to come H857 (QalActPtc) concerning my sons, H1121 and concerning the work H6467 of my hands H3027 command H6680 (PielImpf) ye me.

οτι ουτως λεγει κυριος ο θεος ο αγιος ισραηλ ο ποιησας τα επερχομενα ερωτησατε με περι των υιων μου και περι των θυγατερων μου και περι των εργων των χειρων μου εντειλασθε μοι

You said, ‘I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.

And thou saidst, H559 (QalImpf) I shall be a lady H1404 for ever: H5769 [so] that thou didst not lay H7760 (QalPerf) these [things] to thy heart, H3820 neither didst remember H2142 (QalPerf) the latter end H319 of it.

και ειπας εις τον αιωνα εσομαι αρχουσα ουκ ενοησας ταυτα εν τη καρδια σου ουδε εμνησθης τα εσχατα
