Then David the king stood up on his feet and said, “Hear me, my brothers and my people! As for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, and for the footstool of our God; and I had prepared for the building.

και εστη δαυιδ εν μεσω της εκκλησιας και ειπεν ακουσατε μου αδελφοι και λαος μου εμοι εγενετο επι καρδιαν οικοδομησαι οικον αναπαυσεως της κιβωτου διαθηκης κυριου και στασιν ποδων κυριου ημων και ητοιμασα τα εις την κατασκηνωσιν επιτηδεια

But God said to me, ‘You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war and have shed blood.’

He said to me, ‘Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.

Take heed now, for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it.”

Then David gave to Solomon his son the plans for the porch of the temple, for its houses, for its treasuries, for its upper rooms, for its inner rooms, for the place of the mercy seat;

David said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed, for Yahweh God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of Yahweh’s house is finished.

και ειπεν δαυιδ σαλωμων τω υιω αυτου ισχυε και ανδριζου και ποιει μη φοβου μηδε πτοηθης οτι κυριος ο θεος μου μετα σου ουκ ανησει σε και ου μη σε εγκαταλιπη εως του συντελεσαι σε πασαν εργασιαν λειτουργιας οικου κυριου

Behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of God’s house. Every willing man who has skill for any kind of service shall be with you in all kinds of work. Also the captains and all the people will be entirely at your command.”

And, behold, the courses H4256 of the priests H3548 and the Levites, H3881 [even they shall be with thee] for all the service H5656 of the house H1004 of God: H430 and [there shall be] with thee for all manner of workmanship H4399 every willing H5081 skilful man, H2451 for any manner of service: H5656 also the princes H8269 and all the people H5971 [will be] wholly at thy commandment. In addition, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, since I have a treasure of my own of gold and silver, I give it to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house:

People with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of Yahweh’s house, under the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.

κυριε ο θεος ημων παν το πληθος τουτο ο ητοιμακα οικοδομηθηναι οικον τω ονοματι τω αγιω σου εκ χειρος σου εστιν και σοι τα παντα

Now Solomon decided to build a house for Yahweh’s name, and a house for his kingdom.

And Solomon H8010 determined H559 (QalImpf) to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 for the name H8034 of the Lord, H3068 and an house H1004 for his kingdom. H4438

^[1:18] και ειπεν σαλωμων του οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου και οικον τη βασιλεια αυτου

Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, “As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house in which to dwell, so deal with me.

And Solomon H8010 sent H7971 (QalImpf) to Huram H2361 the king H4428 of Tyre, H6865 saying, H559 (QalInf) As thou didst deal H6213 (QalPerf) with David H1732 my father, H1 and didst send H7971 (QalImpf) him cedars H730 to build H1129 (QalInf) him an house H1004 to dwell H3427 (QalInf) therein, [even so deal with me].

^[2:2] και απεστειλεν σαλωμων προς χιραμ βασιλεα τυρου λεγων ως εποιησας μετα του πατρος μου δαυιδ και απεστειλας αυτω κεδρους του οικοδομησαι εαυτω οικον κατοικησαι εν αυτω

Behold,^§ I am about to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, to dedicate it to him, to burn before him incense of sweet spices, for the continual show bread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Yahweh our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.

2 Chronicles 2:4 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

“The house which I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

^[2:5] και τις ισχυσει οικοδομησαι αυτω οικον οτι ο ουρανος και ο ουρανος του ουρανου ου φερουσιν αυτου την δοξαν και τις εγω οικοδομων αυτω οικον οτι αλλ η του θυμιαν κατεναντι αυτου

even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful.

Then Solomon began to build Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where Yahweh appeared to David his father, which he prepared in the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

Now these are the foundations which Solomon laid for the building of God’s house: the length by cubits° after the first measure was sixty cubits, and the width twenty cubits.

2 Chronicles 3:3 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters.

Now these [are the things wherein] Solomon H8010 was instructed H3245 (HophPerf) for the building H1129 (QalInf) of the house H1004 of God. H430 The length H753 by cubits H520 after the first H7223 measure H4060 [was] threescore H8346 cubits, H520 and the breadth H7341 twenty H6242 cubits. H520

The porch that was in front, its length, across the width of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height one hundred twenty; and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

He made the larger room with a ceiling of cypress wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and ornamented it with palm trees and chains.

He decorated the house with precious stones for beauty. The gold was gold from Parvaim.

He also overlaid the house, the beams, the thresholds, its walls, and its doors with gold, and engraved cherubim on the walls.

He made the most holy place. Its length, according to the width of the house, was twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits; and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.°

In the most holy place he made two cherubim by carving, and they overlaid them with gold.

The wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits, joining to the wing of the other cherub.

The wings of these cherubim spread themselves out twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.

Also he made before the house two pillars thirty-five cubits high, and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

It stood on twelve oxen, three looking toward the north, three looking toward the west, three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; and the sea was set on them above, and all their hindquarters were inward.

Huram made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Huram finished doing the work that he did for King Solomon in God’s house:

και εποιησεν χιραμ τας κρεαγρας και τα πυρεια και την εσχαραν του θυσιαστηριου και παντα τα σκευη αυτου και συνετελεσεν χιραμ ποιησαι πασαν την εργασιαν ην εποιησεν σαλωμων τω βασιλει εν οικω του θεου

Huram-abi° also made the pots, the shovels, the forks, and all its vessels for King Solomon, for Yahweh’s house, of bright bronze.

Solomon made all the vessels that were in God’s house: the golden altar, the tables with the show bread on them,

and the snuffers, the basins, the spoons, and the fire pans of pure gold. As for the entry of the house, its inner doors for the most holy place and the doors of the main hall of the temple were of gold.

And the snuffers, H4212 and the basons, H4219 and the spoons, H3709 and the censers, H4289 [of] pure H5462 (QalPasPtc) gold: H2091 and the entry H6607 of the house, H1004 the inner H6442 doors H1817 thereof for the most H6944 holy H6944 [place], and the doors H1817 of the house H1004 of the temple, H1964 [were of] gold. και η θυρα του οικου η εσωτερα εις τα αγια των αγιων εις τας θυρας του οικου του ναου χρυσας

Thus all the work that Solomon did for Yahweh’s house was finished. Solomon brought in the things that David his father had dedicated, even the silver, the gold, and all the vessels, and put them in the treasuries of God’s house.

Thus all the work H4399 that Solomon H8010 made H6213 (QalPerf) for the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 was finished: H7999 (QalImpf) and Solomon H8010 brought H935 (HiphImpf) in [all] the things H6944 that David H1732 his father H1 had dedicated; H6944 and the silver, H3701 and the gold, H2091 and all the instruments, H3627 put H5414 (QalPerf) he among the treasures H214 of the house H1004 of God. και συνετελεσθη πασα η εργασια ην εποιησεν σαλωμων εν οικω κυριου και εισηνεγκεν σαλωμων τα αγια δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου το αργυριον και το χρυσιον και τα σκευη εδωκεν εις θησαυρον οικου κυριου
