“If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

For calamity from God is a terror to me. Because of his majesty, I can do nothing.

If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand up.

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained.

οιδα οτι παντα δυνασαι αδυνατει δε σοι ουθεν

lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed against him;” lest my adversaries rejoice when I fall.

I will strike them through, so that they will not be able to rise. They shall fall under my feet.

I will silence whoever secretly slanders his neighbor. I won’t tolerate one who is arrogant and conceited.

^[100:5] τον καταλαλουντα λαθρα του πλησιον αυτου τουτον εξεδιωκον υπερηφανω οφθαλμω και απληστω καρδια τουτω ου συνησθιον

many times they have afflicted me from my youth up, yet they have not prevailed against me.

“For three things the earth trembles, and under four, it can’t bear up:

All things are full of weariness beyond uttering. The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

That which is crooked can’t be made straight; and that which is lacking can’t be counted.

Consider the work of God, for who can make that straight which he has made crooked?

then I saw all the work of God, that man can’t find out the work that is done under the sun, because however much a man labors to seek it out, yet he won’t find it. Yes even though a wise man thinks he can comprehend it, he won’t be able to find it.

Many waters can’t quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man would give all the wealth of his house for love, he would be utterly scorned.

νυν μειχθητε τω κυριω μου τω βασιλει ασσυριων και δωσω υμιν δισχιλιαν ιππον ει δυνησεσθε δουναι αναβατας επ αυτους

The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.

Therefore disaster will come on you. You won’t know when it dawns. Mischief will fall on you. You won’t be able to put it away. Desolation will come on you suddenly, which you don’t understand.

και ηξει επι σε απωλεια και ου μη γνως βοθυνος και εμπεση εις αυτον και ηξει επι σε ταλαιπωρια και ου μη δυνηση καθαρα γενεσθαι και ηξει επι σε εξαπινης απωλεια και ου μη γνως

“Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, as if you might profit, as if you might prevail.

His watchmen are blind. They are all without knowledge. They are all mute dogs. They can’t bark— dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.

ιδετε οτι παντες εκτετυφλωνται ουκ εγνωσαν φρονησαι παντες κυνες ενεοι ου δυνησονται υλακτειν ενυπνιαζομενοι κοιτην φιλουντες νυσταξαι

But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it can’t rest and its waters cast up mire and mud.

οι δε αδικοι ουτως κλυδωνισθησονται και αναπαυσασθαι ου δυνησονται

Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has fallen in the street, and uprightness can’t enter.

και απεστησαμεν οπισω την κρισιν και η δικαιοσυνη μακραν αφεστηκεν οτι καταναλωθη εν ταις οδοις αυτων η αληθεια και δι ευθειας ουκ ηδυναντο διελθειν

They will fight against you, but they will not prevail against you; for I am with you”, says Yahweh, “to rescue you.”
