Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

^[35:12] και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς ιερεμιαν μετα το συντριψαι ανανιαν τους κλοιους απο του τραχηλου αυτου λεγων

therefore Yahweh says, “Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his offspring. He will not have a man to dwell among this people. He won’t see the good that I will do to my people,” says Yahweh, “because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh.” ’ ”

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Behold, I will punish H6485 (QalActPtc) Shemaiah H8098 the Nehelamite, H5161 and his seed: H2233 he shall not have a man H376 to dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) among H8432 this people; H5971 neither shall he behold H7200 (QalImpf) the good H2896 that I will do H6213 (QalActPtc) for my people, H5971 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord; H3068 because he hath taught H1696 (PielPerf) rebellion H5627 against the Lord. ^[36:32] δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος ιδου εγω επισκεψομαι επι σαμαιαν και επι το γενος αυτου και ουκ εσται αυτων ανθρωπος εν μεσω υμων του ιδειν τα αγαθα α εγω ποιησω υμιν ουκ οψονται

It will come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds. Strangers will no more make them their bondservants;

For it shall come to pass in that day, H3117 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 [that] I will break H7665 (QalImpf) his yoke H5923 from off thy neck, H6677 and will burst H5423 (PielImpf) thy bonds, H4147 and strangers H2114 (QalPtc) shall no more serve H5647 (QalImpf) themselves of him:

^[37:8] εν τη ημερα εκεινη ειπεν κυριος συντριψω τον ζυγον απο του τραχηλου αυτων και τους δεσμους αυτων διαρρηξω και ουκ εργωνται αυτοι ετι αλλοτριοις

All your lovers have forgotten you. They don’t seek you. For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.

All thy lovers H157 (PielPtc) have forgotten H7911 (QalPerf) thee; they seek H1875 (QalImpf) thee not; for I have wounded H5221 (HiphPerf) thee with the wound H4347 of an enemy, H341 (QalActPtc) with the chastisement H4148 of a cruel one, H394 for the multitude H7230 of thine iniquity; H5771 [because] thy sins H2403 were increased. ^[37:14] παντες οι φιλοι σου επελαθοντο σου ου μη επερωτησουσιν οτι πληγην εχθρου επαισα σε παιδειαν στερεαν επι πασαν αδικιαν σου επληθυναν αι αμαρτιαι σου

Why do you cry over your injury? Your pain is incurable. For the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins have increased, I have done these things to you.

Why criest H2199 (QalImpf) thou for thine affliction? H7667 thy sorrow H4341 [is] incurable H605 (QalPasPtc) for the multitude H7230 of thine iniquity: H5771 [because] thy sins H2403 were increased, H6105 (QalPerf) I have done H6213 (QalPerf) these things unto thee.

Yahweh appeared of old to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore I have drawn you with loving kindness.

The Lord H3068 hath appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) of old H7350 unto me, [saying], Yea, I have loved H157 (QalPerf) thee with an everlasting H5769 love: H160 therefore with lovingkindness H2617 have I drawn H4900 (QalPerf) thee.

^[38:3] κυριος πορρωθεν ωφθη αυτω αγαπησιν αιωνιαν ηγαπησα σε δια τουτο ειλκυσα σε εις οικτιρημα

They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd. Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.

Therefore they shall come H935 (QalPerf) and sing H7442 (PielPerf) in the height H4791 of Zion, H6726 and shall flow together H5102 (QalPerf) to the goodness H2898 of the Lord, H3068 for wheat, H1715 and for wine, H8492 and for oil, H3323 and for the young H1121 of the flock H6629 and of the herd: H1241 and their soul H5315 shall be as a watered H7302 garden; H1588 and they shall not sorrow H1669 (QalInf) any more H3254 (HiphImpf) at all.

^[38:12] και ηξουσιν και ευφρανθησονται εν τω ορει σιων και ηξουσιν επ αγαθα κυριου επι γην σιτου και οινου και καρπων και κτηνων και προβατων και εσται η ψυχη αυτων ωσπερ ξυλον εγκαρπον και ου πεινασουσιν ετι

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I still earnestly remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him. I will surely have mercy on him,” says Yahweh.

^[38:20] υιος αγαπητος εφραιμ εμοι παιδιον εντρυφων οτι ανθ ων οι λογοι μου εν αυτω μνεια μνησθησομαι αυτου δια τουτο εσπευσα επ αυτω ελεων ελεησω αυτον φησιν κυριος

It will happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” says Yahweh.

And it shall come to pass, [that] like as I have watched over H8245 (QalPerf) them, to pluck up, H5428 (QalInf) and to break down, H5422 (QalInf) and to throw down, H2040 (QalInf) and to destroy, H6 (HiphInf) and to afflict; H7489 (HiphInf) so will I watch over H8245 (QalImpf) them, to build, H1129 (QalInf) and to plant, H5193 (QalInf) saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. ^[38:28] και εσται ωσπερ εγρηγορουν επ αυτους καθαιρειν και κακουν ουτως γρηγορησω επ αυτους του οικοδομειν και καταφυτευειν φησιν κυριος

Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

For then the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 army H2428 besieged H6696 (QalActPtc) Jerusalem: H3389 and Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 was shut up H3607 (QalPasPtc) in the court H2691 of the prison, H4307 which [was] in the king H4428 of Judah’s H3063 house. H1004

^[39:2] και δυναμις βασιλεως βαβυλωνος εχαρακωσεν επι ιερουσαλημ και ιερεμιας εφυλασσετο εν αυλη της φυλακης η εστιν εν οικω του βασιλεως

“Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.

Behold the mounts, H5550 they are come H935 (QalPerf) unto the city H5892 to take H3920 (QalInf) it; and the city H5892 is given H5414 (NiphPerf) into the hand H3027 of the Chaldeans, H3778 that fight H3898 (NiphPtc) against it, because H6440 of the sword, H2719 and of the famine, H7458 and of the pestilence: H1698 and what thou hast spoken H1696 (PielPerf) is come to pass; and, behold, thou seest H7200 (QalActPtc) [it].

^[39:24] ιδου οχλος ηκει εις την πολιν ταυτην συλλαβειν αυτην και η πολις εδοθη εις χειρας χαλδαιων των πολεμουντων αυτην απο προσωπου μαχαιρας και του λιμου ως ελαλησας ουτως εγενετο

The Chaldeans, who fight against this city, will come and set this city on fire, and burn it with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

And the Chaldeans, H3778 that fight H3898 (NiphPtc) against this city, H5892 shall come H935 (QalPerf) and set H3341 (HiphPerf) fire H784 on this city, H5892 and burn H8313 (QalPerf) it with the houses, H1004 upon whose roofs H1406 they have offered incense H6999 (PielPerf) unto Baal, H1168 and poured out H5258 (HiphPerf) drink offerings H5262 unto other H312 gods, H430 to provoke me to anger. H3707 (HiphInf)

^[39:29] και ηξουσιν οι χαλδαιοι πολεμουντες επι την πολιν ταυτην και καυσουσιν την πολιν ταυτην εν πυρι και κατακαυσουσιν τας οικιας εν αις εθυμιωσαν επι των δωματων αυτων τη βααλ και εσπενδον σπονδας θεοις ετεροις προς το παραπικραναι με

For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, so that I should remove it from before my face,

For this city H5892 hath been to me [as] a provocation of mine anger H639 and of my fury H2534 from the day H3117 that they built H1129 (QalPerf) it even unto this day; H3117 that I should remove H5493 (HiphInf) it from before my face, H6440

^[39:31] οτι επι την οργην μου και επι τον θυμον μου ην η πολις αυτη αφ ης ημερας ωκοδομησαν αυτην και εως της ημερας ταυτης απαλλαξαι αυτην απο προσωπου μου

because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Because of all the evil H7451 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 and of the children H1121 of Judah, H3063 which they have done H6213 (QalPerf) to provoke me to anger, H3707 (HiphInf) they, their kings, H4428 their princes, H8269 their priests, H3548 and their prophets, H5030 and the men H376 of Judah, H3063 and the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jerusalem. ^[39:32] δια πασας τας πονηριας των υιων ισραηλ και ιουδα ων εποιησαν πικραναι με αυτοι και οι βασιλεις αυτων και οι αρχοντες αυτων και οι ιερεις αυτων και οι προφηται αυτων ανδρες ιουδα και οι κατοικουντες ιερουσαλημ

Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.”

^[39:41] και επισκεψομαι του αγαθωσαι αυτους και φυτευσω αυτους εν τη γη ταυτη εν πιστει και εν παση καρδια και εν παση ψυχη

For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says concerning the houses of this city and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are broken down to make a defense against the mounds and against the sword:

For thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 the God H430 of Israel, H3478 concerning the houses H1004 of this city, H5892 and concerning the houses H1004 of the kings H4428 of Judah, H3063 which are thrown down H5422 (QalPasPtc) by the mounts, H5550 and by the sword; H2719

^[40:4] οτι ουτως ειπεν κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ περι οικων της πολεως ταυτης και περι οικων βασιλεως ιουδα των καθηρημενων εις χαρακας και προμαχωνας

‘While men come to fight with the Chaldeans, and to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have killed in my anger and in my wrath, and for all whose wickedness I have hidden my face from this city,

^[40:5] του μαχεσθαι προς τους χαλδαιους και πληρωσαι αυτην των νεκρων των ανθρωπων ους επαταξα εν οργη μου και εν θυμω μου και απεστρεψα το προσωπον μου απ αυτων περι πασων των πονηριων αυτων

This city will be to me for a name of joy, for praise, and for glory, before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do to them, and will fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I provide to it.’ ”

And it shall be to me a name H8034 of joy, H8342 a praise H8416 and an honour H8597 before all the nations H1471 of the earth, H776 which shall hear H8085 (QalImpf) all the good H2896 that I do H6213 (QalActPtc) unto them: and they shall fear H6342 (QalPerf) and tremble H7264 (QalPerf) for all the goodness H2896 and for all the prosperity H7965 that I procure H6213 (QalActPtc) unto it.

^[40:9] και εσται εις ευφροσυνην και εις αινεσιν και εις μεγαλειοτητα παντι τω λαω της γης οιτινες ακουσονται παντα τα αγαθα α εγω ποιησω και φοβηθησονται και πικρανθησονται περι παντων των αγαθων και περι πασης της ειρηνης ης εγω ποιησω αυτοις

In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the lowland, in the cities of the South, in the land of Benjamin, in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flocks will again pass under the hands of him who counts them,” says Yahweh.

In the cities H5892 of the mountains, H2022 in the cities H5892 of the vale, H8219 and in the cities H5892 of the south, H5045 and in the land H776 of Benjamin, H1144 and in the places about H5439 Jerusalem, H3389 and in the cities H5892 of Judah, H3063 shall the flocks H6629 pass again H5674 (QalImpf) under the hands H3027 of him that telleth H4487 (QalActPtc) [them], saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord. ^[40:13] εν πολεσιν της ορεινης και εν πολεσιν της σεφηλα και εν πολεσιν της ναγεβ και εν γη βενιαμιν και εν ταις κυκλω ιερουσαλημ και εν πολεσιν ιουδα ετι παρελευσεται προβατα επι χειρα αριθμουντος ειπεν κυριος

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, with all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying:

The word H1697 which came unto Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord, H3068 when Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon, H894 and all his army, H2428 and all the kingdoms H4467 of the earth H776 of his dominion, H3027 H4475 and all the people, H5971 fought H3898 (NiphPtc) against Jerusalem, H3389 and against all the cities H5892 thereof, saying, H559 (QalInf)

^[41:1] ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου και ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλευς βαβυλωνος και παν το στρατοπεδον αυτου και πασα η γη αρχης αυτου επολεμουν επι ιερουσαλημ και επι πασας τας πολεις ιουδα λεγων

“Yet hear Yahweh’s word, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Yahweh says concerning you, ‘You won’t die by the sword.

Yet hear H8085 (QalImpv) the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 O Zedekiah H6667 king H4428 of Judah; H3063 Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of thee, Thou shalt not die H4191 (QalImpf) by the sword: H2719

^[41:4] αλλα ακουσον τον λογον κυριου σεδεκια βασιλευ ιουδα ουτως λεγει κυριος

when the king of Babylon’s army was fighting against Jerusalem and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities.

When the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 army H2428 fought H3898 (NiphPtc) against Jerusalem, H3389 and against all the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 that were left, H3498 (NiphPtc) against Lachish, H3923 and against Azekah: H5825 for these defenced H4013 cities H5892 remained H7604 (NiphPerf) of the cities H5892 of Judah. H3063

^[41:7] και η δυναμις βασιλεως βαβυλωνος επολεμει επι ιερουσαλημ και επι τας πολεις ιουδα επι λαχις και επι αζηκα οτι αυται κατελειφθησαν εν πολεσιν ιουδα πολεις οχυραι

Behold, I will command,” says Yahweh, “and cause them to return to this city. They will fight against it, take it, and burn it with fire. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”

Behold, I will command, H6680 (PielPtc) saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 and cause them to return H7725 (HiphPerf) to this city; H5892 and they shall fight H3898 (NiphPerf) against it, and take H3920 (QalPerf) it, and burn H8313 (QalPerf) it with fire: H784 and I will make H5414 (QalImpf) the cities H5892 of Judah H3063 a desolation H8077 without an inhabitant. ^[41:22] ιδου εγω συντασσω φησιν κυριος και επιστρεψω αυτους εις την γην ταυτην και πολεμησουσιν επ αυτην και λημψονται αυτην και κατακαυσουσιν αυτην εν πυρι και τας πολεις ιουδα και δωσω αυτας ερημους απο κατοικουντων

“Therefore Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them, because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.’ ”

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of hosts, H6635 the God H430 of Israel; H3478 Behold, I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) upon Judah H3063 and upon all the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jerusalem H3389 all the evil H7451 that I have pronounced H1696 (PielPerf) against them: because I have spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto them, but they have not heard; H8085 (QalPerf) and I have called H7121 (QalImpf) unto them, but they have not answered. H6030 (QalPerf)

^[42:17] δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος ιδου εγω φερω επι ιουδαν και επι τους κατοικουντας ιερουσαλημ παντα τα κακα α ελαλησα επ αυτους

“Take a scroll of a book, and write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah even to this day.

Take H3947 (QalImpv) thee a roll H4039 of a book, H5612 and write H3789 (QalPerf) therein all the words H1697 that I have spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto thee against Israel, H3478 and against Judah, H3063 and against all the nations, H1471 from the day H3117 I spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto thee, from the days H3117 of Josiah, H2977 even unto this day. ^[43:2] λαβε σεαυτω χαρτιον βιβλιου και γραψον επ αυτου παντας τους λογους ους εχρηματισα προς σε επι ιερουσαλημ και επι ιουδαν και επι παντα τα εθνη αφ ης ημερας λαλησαντος μου προς σε αφ ημερων ιωσια βασιλεως ιουδα και εως της ημερας ταυτης

So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the hearing of the king, and in the hearing of all the princes who stood beside the king.

So the king H4428 sent H7971 (QalImpf) Jehudi H3065 to fetch H3947 (QalInf) the roll: H4039 and he took H3947 (QalImpf) it out of Elishama H476 the scribe’s H5608 (QalActPtc) chamber. H3957 And Jehudi H3065 read H7121 (QalImpf) it in the ears H241 of the king, H4428 and in the ears H241 of all the princes H8269 which stood H5975 (QalActPtc) beside H5921 the king. H4428

^[43:21] και απεστειλεν ο βασιλευς τον ιουδιν λαβειν το χαρτιον και ελαβεν αυτο εξ οικου ελισαμα και ανεγνω ιουδιν εις τα ωτα του βασιλεως και εις τα ωτα παντων των αρχοντων των εστηκοτων περι τον βασιλεα

Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, ‘Yahweh says: “You have burned this scroll, saying, ‘Why have you written therein, saying, “The king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cause to cease from there man and animal”?’ ”

And thou shalt say H559 (QalImpf) to Jehoiakim H3079 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Thou hast burned H8313 (QalPerf) this roll, H4039 saying, H559 (QalInf) Why hast thou written H3789 (QalPerf) therein, saying, H559 (QalInf) The king H4428 of Babylon H894 shall certainly H935 (QalInf) come H935 (QalImpf) and destroy H7843 (HiphPerf) this land, H776 and shall cause to cease H7673 (HiphPerf) from thence man H120 and beast? H929

^[43:29] και ερεις ουτως ειπεν κυριος συ κατεκαυσας το χαρτιον τουτο λεγων δια τι εγραψας επ αυτω λεγων εισπορευομενος εισπορευσεται ο βασιλευς βαβυλωνος και εξολεθρευσει την γην ταυτην και εκλειψει απ αυτης ανθρωπος και κτηνη

Therefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: “He will have no one to sit on David’s throne. His dead body will be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of Jehoiakim H3079 king H4428 of Judah; H3063 He shall have none to sit H3427 (QalActPtc) upon the throne H3678 of David: H1732 and his dead body H5038 shall be cast out H7993 (HophPtc) in the day H3117 to the heat, H2721 and in the night H3915 to the frost. ^[43:30] δια τουτο ουτως ειπεν κυριος επι ιωακιμ βασιλεα ιουδα ουκ εσται αυτω καθημενος επι θρονου δαυιδ και το θνησιμαιον αυτου εσται ερριμμενον εν τω καυματι της ημερας και εν τω παγετω της νυκτος

Pharaoh’s army had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.

Then Pharaoh’s H6547 army H2428 was come forth H3318 (QalPerf) out of Egypt: H4714 and when the Chaldeans H3778 that besieged H6696 (QalActPtc) Jerusalem H3389 heard H8085 (QalImpf) tidings H8088 of them, they departed H5927 (NiphImpf) from Jerusalem. H3389

^[44:5] και δυναμις φαραω εξηλθεν εξ αιγυπτου και ηκουσαν οι χαλδαιοι την ακοην αυτων και ανεβησαν απο ιερουσαλημ

The Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city. They will take it and burn it with fire.” ’

And the Chaldeans H3778 shall come again, H7725 (QalPerf) and fight H3898 (NiphPerf) against this city, H5892 and take H3920 (QalPerf) it, and burn H8313 (QalPerf) it with fire. H784

^[44:8] και αναστρεψουσιν αυτοι οι χαλδαιοι και πολεμησουσιν επι την πολιν ταυτην και συλλημψονται αυτην και καυσουσιν αυτην εν πυρι

^[44:19] και που εισιν οι προφηται υμων οι προφητευσαντες υμιν λεγοντες οτι ου μη ελθη βασιλευς βαβυλωνος επι την γην ταυτην

Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”

Because you have burned incense and because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed Yahweh’s voice, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is today.”

^[51:23] απο προσωπου ων εθυμιατε και ων ημαρτετε τω κυριω και ουκ ηκουσατε της φωνης κυριου και εν τοις προσταγμασιν αυτου και εν τω νομω αυτου και εν τοις μαρτυριοις αυτου ουκ επορευθητε και επελαβετο υμων τα κακα ταυτα

Behold, I watch over them for evil, and not for good; and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt will be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until they are all gone.

“ ‘This will be the sign to you,’ says Yahweh, ‘that I will punish you in this place, that you may know that my words will surely stand against you for evil.’

“Moab has been at ease from his youth, and he has settled on his dregs, and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither has he gone into captivity; therefore his taste remains in him, and his scent is not changed.

Judgment has come on the plain country— on Holon, on Jahzah, on Mephaath,
