Hero and man of war, judge and prophet, And diviner and elder,

The people will be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor. The child will behave himself proudly against the old man, and the wicked against the honorable.

Indeed a man shall take hold of his brother in the house of his father, saying, “You have clothing, you be our ruler, and let this ruin be under your hand.”

Seven women shall take hold of one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread, and wear our own clothing. Just let us be called by your name. Take away our reproach.”

For the vineyard of Yahweh of Armies is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression, for righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress.

Because the vineyard of Jehovah of Hosts Is the house of Israel, And the man of Judah His pleasant plant, And He waiteth for judgment, and lo, oppression, For righteousness, and lo, a cry.

So man is brought low, mankind is humbled, and the eyes of the arrogant ones are humbled;

And bowed down is the low, and humbled the high, And the eyes of the haughty become low,

Woe to those who are mighty to drink wine, and champions at mixing strong drink;

Woe to the mighty to drink wine, And men of strength to mingle strong drink.

Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips, for my eyes have seen the King, Yahweh of Armies!”

And I say, ‘Woe to me, for I have been silent, For a man-unclean of lips am I, And in midst of a people unclean of lips I am dwelling, Because the King, Jehovah of Hosts, have my eyes seen.’

He said, “Listen now, house of David. Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also?

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Hear H8085 (QalImpv) ye now, O house H1004 of David; H1732 [Is it] a small thing H4592 for you to weary H3811 (HiphInf) men, H582 but will ye weary H3811 (HiphImpf) my God H430 also?

And he saith, ‘Hear, I pray you, O house of David, Is it a little thing for you to weary men, That ye weary also my God?

It shall happen in that day that a man shall keep alive a young cow, and two sheep.

And it hath come to pass, in that day, A man keepeth alive a heifer of the herd, And two of the flock,

Through Yahweh of Armies’ wrath, the land is burned up; and the people are the fuel for the fire. No one spares his brother.

In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts Hath the land been consumed, And the people is as fuel of fire; A man on his brother hath no pity,

One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm:

And cutteth down on the right, and hath been hungry, And he devoureth on the left, And they have not been satisfied, Each the flesh of his own arm they devour.

They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.

And they have been troubled, Pains and pangs they take, As a travailing woman they are pained, A man at his friend they marvel, The appearance of flames-their faces!

It will happen that like a hunted gazelle and like sheep that no one gathers, they will each turn to their own people, and will each flee to their own land.

Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, “Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms,

Thy beholders look to thee, to thee they attend, Is this the man causing the earth to tremble, Shaking kingdoms?

All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, everyone in his own house.

All kings of nations-all of them, Have lain down in honour, each in his house,

I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians, and they will fight everyone against his brother, and everyone against his neighbor; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.

And lo, this, the chariot of a man is coming, A couple of horsemen.’ And he answereth and saith: ‘Fallen, fallen hath Babylon, And all the graven images of her gods He hath broken to the earth.

The Lord said, “Because this people draws near with their mouth and honors me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men which has been taught;

And the Lord saith: Because drawn near hath this people, with its mouth, And with its lips they have honoured Me, And its heart it hath put far off from Me, And their fear of Me is- A precept of men is taught!

For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin which your own hands have made for you.

“The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.

And fallen hath Asshur by sword, not of the high, Yea, a sword-not of the low, doth consume him, And he hath fled for himself from the face of a sword, And his young men become tributary.

A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the storm, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a large rock in a weary land.

And each hath been as a hiding-place from wind, And as a secret hiding-place from inundation, As rivulets of waters in a dry place, As a shadow of a heavy rock in a weary land.

The arrow snake will make her nest there, and lay, hatch, and gather under her shade. Yes, the kites will be gathered there, every one with her mate.

There made her nest hath the bittern, Yea, she layeth, and hath hatched, And hath gathered under her shadow, Only there gathered have been vultures, Each with its companion.

Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.

‘Lo, thou hast trusted on the staff of this broken reed-on Egypt-which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it-so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

But Rabshakeh said, “Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”

And Rabshakeh saith, ‘Unto thy lord, and unto thee, hath my lord sent me to speak these words? is it not for the men-those sitting on the wall to eat their own dung and to drink their own water with you?’

Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says, ‘Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;

Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?

lest Hezekiah doth persuade you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us. ‘Have the gods of the nations delivered each his land out of the hand of the king of Asshur?

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and asked him, “What did these men say? From where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come from a country far from me, even from Babylon.”

Who has directed Yahweh’s Spirit, or has taught him as his counselor?

Who hath meted out the Spirit of Jehovah, And, being His counsellor, doth teach Him!

Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. By the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

Lift up on high your eyes, And see-who hath prepared these? He who is bringing out by number their host, To all of them by name He calleth, By abundance of strength (And he is strong in power) not one is lacking.

Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, “Be strong!”

Each his neighbour they help, And to his brother he saith, ‘Be strong.’

Behold, all those who are incensed against you will be disappointed and confounded. Those who strive with you will be like nothing, and shall perish.

Lo, all those displeased with thee, They are ashamed and blush, They are as nothing, yea, perish Do the men who strive with thee.

You will seek them, and won’t find them, even those who contend with you. Those who war against you will be as nothing, as a nonexistent thing.

Thou shalt seek H1245 (PielImpf) them, and shalt not find H4672 (QalImpf) them, [even] them H582 that contended H4695 with thee: they that war H4421 against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought. H657

Thou seekest them, and findest them not, The men who debate with thee, They are as nothing, yea, as nothing, The men who war with thee.

When I look, there is no man, even among them there is no counselor who, when I ask, can answer a word.

And I see that there is no man, Yea, of these that there is no counsellor, And I ask them, and they return word:

Yahweh will go out like a mighty man. He will stir up zeal like a man of war. He will raise a war cry. Yes, he will shout aloud. He will triumph over his enemies.

Jehovah as a mighty one goeth forth. As a man of war He stirreth up zeal, He crieth, yea, He shrieketh, Against His enemies He showeth Himself mighty.

The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. He marks it out with compasses, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a house.

He hath wrought with wood, He hath stretched out a rule, He doth mark it out with a line, He maketh it with carving tools, And with a compass he marketh it out, And maketh it according to the form of a man, According to the beauty of a man, To remain in the house.

Yahweh says: “The labor of Egypt, and the merchandise of Ethiopia, and the Sabeans, men of stature, will come over to you, and they will be yours. They will go after you. They shall come over in chains. They will bow down to you. They will make supplication to you: ‘Surely God is in you; and there is no one else. There is no other god.

Thus said Jehovah, ‘The labour of Egypt, And the merchandise of Cush, And of the Sebaim-men of measure, Unto thee pass over, and thine they are, After thee they go, in fetters they pass over, And unto thee they bow themselves, Unto thee they pray: Only in thee is God, And there is none else, no other God.

I call a ravenous bird from the east, the man of my counsel from a far country. Yes, I have spoken. I will also bring it to pass. I have planned. I will also do it.

The things that you labored in will be like this: those who have trafficked with you from your youth will each wander in his own way. There will be no one to save you.

Why, when I came, was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can’t redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness. Their fish stink because there is no water, and die of thirst.

Just as many were astonished at you— his appearance was marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men—

As astonished at thee have been many, (So marred by man his appearance, And his form by sons of men.)

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering and acquainted with disease. He was despised as one from whom men hide their face; and we didn’t respect him.

He is despised, and left of men, A man of pains, and acquainted with sickness, And as one hiding the face from us, He is despised, and we esteemed him not.

All we like sheep have gone astray. Everyone has turned to his own way; and Yahweh has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

All of us like sheep have wandered, Each to his own way we have turned, And Jehovah hath caused to meet on him, The punishment of us all.

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Let him return to Yahweh, and he will have mercy on him, to our God, for he will freely pardon.

Let the wicked H7563 forsake H5800 (QalImpf) his way, H1870 and the unrighteous H205 man H376 his thoughts: H4284 and let him return H7725 (QalImpf) unto the Lord, H3068 and he will have mercy H7355 (PielImpf) upon him; and to our God, H430 for he will abundantly H7235 (HiphImpf) pardon. Forsake doth the wicked his way, And the man of iniquity his thoughts, And he returneth to Jehovah, and He pitieth him, And unto our God for He multiplieth to pardon.

Yes, the dogs are greedy. They can never have enough. They are shepherds who can’t understand. They have all turned to their own way, each one to his gain, from every quarter.

Yea, [they are] greedy H5794 H5315 dogs H3611 [which] can H3045 (QalPerf) never have H3045 (QalPerf) enough, H7654 and they [are] shepherds H7462 (QalActPtc) [that] cannot understand: H995 (HiphInf) they all look H6437 (QalPerf) to their own way, H1870 every one H376 for his gain, H1215 from his quarter. And the dogs are strong of desire, They have not known sufficiency, And they are shepherds! They have not known understanding, All of them to their own way they did turn, Each to his dishonest gain from his quarter:

The righteous perish, and no one lays it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil.

The righteous H6662 perisheth, H6 (QalPerf) and no man H376 layeth H7760 (QalActPtc) [it] to heart: H3820 and merciful H2617 men H582 [are] taken away, H622 (NiphPtc) none considering H995 (HiphPtc) that the righteous H6662 is taken away H622 (NiphPerf) from H6440 the evil H7451 [to come].

The righteous hath perished, And there is none laying it to heart, And men of kindness are gathered, Without any considering that from the face of evil Gathered is the righteous one.

He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor. Therefore his own arm brought salvation to him; and his righteousness sustained him.

And He seeth that there is no man, And is astonished that there is no intercessor, And His own arm giveth salvation to Him, And His righteousness-it sustained Him.

“I have trodden the wine press alone. Of the peoples, no one was with me. Yes, I trod them in my anger and trampled them in my wrath. Their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing.

-‘A wine-press I have trodden by myself, And of the peoples there is no one with me, And I tread them in mine anger, And I trample them in my fury, Sprinkled is their strength on my garments, And all my clothing I have polluted.

He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.

He that killeth H7819 (QalActPtc) an ox H7794 [is as if] he slew H5221 (HiphPtc) a man; H376 he that sacrificeth H2076 (QalActPtc) a lamb, H7716 [as if] he cut off H6202 a dog’s H3611 neck; H6202 (QalActPtc) he that offereth H5927 (HiphPtc) an oblation, H4503 [as if he offered] swine’s H2386 blood; H1818 he that burneth H2142 (HiphPtc) incense, H3828 [as if] he blessed H1288 (PielPtc) an idol. H205 Yea, they have chosen H977 (QalPerf) their own ways, H1870 and their soul H5315 delighteth H2654 (QalPerf) in their abominations. H8251

Whoso slaughtereth the ox smiteth a man, Whoso sacrificeth the lamb beheadeth a dog, Whoso is bringing up a present- The blood of a sow, Whoso is making mention of frankincense, Is blessing iniquity. Yea, they have fixed on their own ways, And in their abominations their soul hath delighted.
