Isaiah 7:4 Heb. let not thine heart be tender

και ερεις αυτω φυλαξαι του ησυχασαι και μη φοβου μηδε η ψυχη σου ασθενειτω απο των δυο ξυλων των δαλων των καπνιζομενων τουτων οταν γαρ οργη του θυμου μου γενηται παλιν ιασομαι

Because Syria, Ephraim, and the son of Remaliah, have plotted evil against you, saying,

This is what the Lord Yahweh says: “It shall not stand, neither shall it happen.”

Isaiah 7:10 Heb. and the Lord added to speak

και προσεθετο κυριος λαλησαι τω αχαζ λεγων

But Ahaz said, “I won’t ask. I won’t tempt Yahweh.”

και ειπεν αχαζ ου μη αιτησω ουδ ου μη πειρασω κυριον

He said, “Listen now, house of David. Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also?

Yahweh said to me, “Take a large tablet, and write on it with a man’s pen, ‘For Maher Shalal Hash Baz’;°

Isaiah 8:1 “Maher Shalal Hash Baz” means “quick to the plunder, swift to the prey”.

Moreover the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto me, Take H3947 (QalImpv) thee a great H1419 roll, H1549 and write H3789 (QalImpv) in it with a man’s H582 pen H2747 concerning Mahershalalhashbaz.^§ H4122

Isaiah 8:1 Heb. In making speed to the spoil he hasteneth the prey. Or, make speed, etc

και ειπεν κυριος προς με λαβε σεαυτω τομον καινου μεγαλου και γραψον εις αυτον γραφιδι ανθρωπου του οξεως προνομην ποιησαι σκυλων παρεστιν γαρ

I went to the prophetess, and she conceived, and bore a son. Then Yahweh said to me, “Call his name ‘Maher Shalal Hash Baz.’

Isaiah 8:3 Heb. approached unto

και προσηλθον προς την προφητιν και εν γαστρι ελαβεν και ετεκεν υιον και ειπεν κυριος μοι καλεσον το ονομα αυτου ταχεως σκυλευσον οξεως προνομευσον

Yahweh spoke to me yet again, saying,

και προσεθετο κυριος λαλησαι μοι ετι

For Yahweh spoke this to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

For the Lord H3068 spake H559 (QalPerf) thus to me with a strong H2393 hand,^§ H3027 and instructed H3256 (PielPerf) me that I should not walk H3212 (QalInf) in the way H1870 of this people, H5971 saying, H559 (QalInf)

Isaiah 8:11 Heb. in strength of hand

ουτως λεγει κυριος τη ισχυρα χειρι απειθουσιν τη πορεια της οδου του λαου τουτου λεγοντες

“Don’t call a conspiracy all that this people call a conspiracy. Don’t fear their threats or be terrorized.

When they tell you, “Consult with those who have familiar spirits and with the wizards, who chirp and who mutter,” shouldn’t a people consult with their God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

και εαν ειπωσιν προς υμας ζητησατε τους απο της γης φωνουντας και τους εγγαστριμυθους τους κενολογουντας οι εκ της κοιλιας φωνουσιν ουκ εθνος προς θεον αυτου τι εκζητουσιν περι των ζωντων τους νεκρους

Turn to the law and to the covenant! If they don’t speak according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

To the law H8451 and to the testimony: H8584 if they speak H559 (QalImpf) not according to this word, H1697 it is because there is no light^§ H7837 in them.

νομον γαρ εις βοηθειαν εδωκεν ινα ειπωσιν ουχ ως το ρημα τουτο περι ου ουκ εστιν δωρα δουναι περι αυτου

All the people will know, including Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart,

For he has said, “By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding. I have removed the boundaries of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures. Like a valiant man I have brought down their rulers.

In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Yahweh of Armies. One will be called “The city of destruction.”
