Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring the woman and all that she has out from there, as you swore to her.”

And to the two men who are spying the land Joshua said, ‘Go into the house of the woman, the harlot, and bring out thence the woman, and all whom she hath, as ye have sworn to her.’

Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

And Joshua adjureth them at that time, saying, ‘Cursed is the man before Jehovah who raiseth up and hath built this city, even Jericho; in his first-born he doth lay its foundation, and in his youngest he doth set up its doors;’

Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.

And Joshua sendeth men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-Aven, on the east of Bethel, and speaketh unto them, saying, ‘Go up and spy the land;’ and the men go up and spy Ai,

They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”

and they turn back unto Joshua, and say unto him, ‘Let not all the people go up; let about two thousand men, or about three thousand men, go up, and they smite Ai; cause not all the people to labour thither; for they are few.’

So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.

And there go up of the people thither about three thousand men, and they flee before the men of Ai,

The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.

and the men of Ai smite of them about thirty and six men, and pursue them before the gate unto Shebarim, and they smite them in Morad; and the heart of the people is melted, and becometh water.

So Joshua arose, with all the warriors, to go up to Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand men, the mighty men of valor, and sent them out by night.

And Joshua riseth, and all the people of war, to go up to Ai, and Joshua chooseth thirty thousand men, mighty ones of valour, and sendeth them away by night,

He took about five thousand men, and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.

And he taketh about five thousand men, and setteth them an ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west of the city;

When the king of Ai saw it, they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he didn’t know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

And it came to pass, when the king H4428 of Ai H5857 saw H7200 (QalInf) [it], that they hasted H4116 (PielImpf) and rose up early, H7925 (HiphImpf) and the men H582 of the city H5892 went out H3318 (QalImpf) against H7125 (QalInf) Israel H3478 to battle, H4421 he and all his people, H5971 at a time appointed, H4150 before H6440 the plain; H6160 but he wist H3045 (QalPerf) not that [there were] liers in ambush H693 (QalActPtc) against him behind H310 the city. And it cometh to pass, when the king of Ai seeth it, that hasten, and rise early, and go out do the men of the city to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at the appointed season, at the front of the plain, and he hath not known that an ambush is against him, on the rear of the city.

There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who didn’t go out after Israel. They left the city open, and pursued Israel.

And there was not a man H376 left H7604 (NiphPerf) in Ai H5857 or Bethel, H1008 that went not out H3318 (QalPerf) after H310 Israel: H3478 and they left H5800 (QalImpf) the city H5892 open, H6605 (QalPasPtc) and pursued H7291 (QalImpf) after Israel. H3478

and there hath not been left a man in Ai and Bethel who hath not gone out after Israel, and they leave the city open, and pursue after Israel.

When the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven, and they had no power to flee this way or that way. The people who fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.

And when the men H582 of Ai H5857 looked H6437 (QalImpf) behind H310 them, they saw, H7200 (QalImpf) and, behold, the smoke H6227 of the city H5892 ascended up H5927 (QalPerf) to heaven, H8064 and they had no power H3027 to flee H5127 (QalInf) this way or that way: H2008 and the people H5971 that fled H5127 (QalPtc) to the wilderness H4057 turned back H2015 (NiphPerf) upon the pursuers. And the men of Ai look behind them, and see, and lo, the smoke of the city hath gone up unto the heavens, and there hath not been in them power to flee hither and thither-and the people who are fleeing to the wilderness have turned against the pursuer,-

When Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city, and that the smoke of the city ascended, then they turned back and killed the men of Ai.

And when Joshua H3091 and all Israel H3478 saw H7200 (QalPerf) that the ambush H693 (QalActPtc) had taken H3920 (QalPerf) the city, H5892 and that the smoke H6227 of the city H5892 ascended, H5927 (QalPerf) then they turned again, H7725 (QalImpf) and slew H5221 (HiphImpf) the men H582 of Ai. H5857

and Joshua and all Israel have seen that the ambush hath captured the city, and that the smoke of the city hath gone up, and they turn back and smite the men of Ai;

All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the people of Ai.

And [so] it was, [that] all that fell H5307 (QalActPtc) that day, H3117 both of men H376 and women, H802 [were] twelve H8147 H6240 thousand, H505 [even] all the men H582 of Ai. H5857

and all who fall during the day, of men and of women, are twelve thousand-all men of Ai.

They went to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far country. Now therefore make a covenant with us.”

And they went H3212 (QalImpf) to Joshua H3091 unto the camp H4264 at Gilgal, H1537 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, and to the men H376 of Israel, H3478 We be come H935 (QalPerf) from a far H7350 country: H776 now therefore make H3772 (QalImpv) ye a league H1285 with us.

And they go unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, and say unto him, and unto the men of Israel, ‘From a land far off we have come, and now, make with us a covenant;’

The men of Israel said to the Hivites, “What if you live among us? How could we make a covenant with you?”

and the men of Israel say unto the Hivite, ‘It may be in our midst ye are dwelling, and how do we make with thee a covenant?’

The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.

And the men H582 took H3947 (QalImpf) of their victuals, H6718 and asked H7592 (QalPerf) not [counsel] at the mouth H6310 of the Lord. H3068

And the men take of their provision, and the mouth of Jehovah have not asked;

they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

that they are greatly afraid, because Gibeon is a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it is greater than Ai, and all its men-heroes.

The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

And the men of Gibeon send unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, saying, ‘Let not thy hand cease from thy servants; come up unto us with haste, and give safety to us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorite, dwelling in the hill-country, have been assembled against us.’

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”

And Jehovah saith unto Joshua, ‘Be not afraid of them, for into thy hand I have given them, there doth not stand a man of them in thy presence.’

There was no day like that before it or after it, that Yahweh listened to the voice of a man; for Yahweh fought for Israel.

And there was no day H3117 like that before H6440 it or after H310 it, that the Lord H3068 hearkened H8085 (QalInf) unto the voice H6963 of a man: H376 for the Lord H3068 fought H3898 (NiphPtc) for Israel. H3478

And there hath not been like that day before it or after it, for Jehovah’s hearkening to the voice of a man; for Jehovah is fighting for Israel.

Joshua said, “Roll large stones to cover the cave’s entrance, and set men by it to guard them;

And Joshua H3091 said, H559 (QalImpf) Roll H1556 (QalImpv) great H1419 stones H68 upon the mouth H6310 of the cave, H4631 and set H6485 (HiphImpv) men H582 by it for to keep H8104 (QalInf) them:

And Joshua saith, ‘Roll great stones unto the mouth of the cave, and appoint over it men to watch them;

all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

When they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.

And it cometh to pass, when they bring out these kings unto Joshua, that Joshua calleth unto every man of Israel, and saith unto the captains of the men of war, who have gone with him, ‘Draw near, set your feet on the necks of these kings;’ and they draw near, and set their feet on their necks.

Then the children of Judah came near to Joshua in Gilgal. Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know the thing that Yahweh spoke to Moses the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh Barnea.

And the sons of Judah come nigh unto Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite saith unto him, ‘Thou hast known the word that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses the man of God, concerning me and concerning thee in Kadesh-Barnea:

This was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh, for he was the firstborn of Joseph. As for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

There was also a lot H1486 for the tribe H4294 of Manasseh; H4519 for he [was] the firstborn H1060 of Joseph; H3130 [to wit], for Machir H4353 the firstborn H1060 of Manasseh, H4519 the father H1 of Gilead: H1568 because he was a man H376 of war, H4421 therefore he had Gilead H1568 and Bashan. And the lot is for the tribe of Manasseh (for he is first-born of Joseph), for Machir first-born of Manasseh, father of Gilead, for he hath been a man of war, and his are Gilead and Bashan.

Appoint for yourselves three men from each tribe. I will send them, and they shall arise, walk through the land, and describe it according to their inheritance; then they shall come to me.

The men arose and went. Joshua commanded those who went to survey the land, saying, “Go walk through the land, survey it, and come again to me. I will cast lots for you here before Yahweh in Shiloh.”

The men went and passed through the land, and surveyed it by cities into seven portions in a book. They came to Joshua to the camp at Shiloh.

And the men go, and pass over through the land, and describe it by cities, in seven portions, on a book, and they come in unto Joshua, unto the camp, at Shiloh.

Yahweh gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand.

Didn’t Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? That man didn’t perish alone in his iniquity.’ ”

Did not Achan son of Zerah commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and on all the company of Israel there was wrath? and he alone expired not in his iniquity.’

“For Yahweh has driven great and strong nations out from before you. But as for you, no man has stood before you to this day.

For the Lord H3068 hath driven out H3423 (HiphImpf) from before H6440 you great H1419 nations H1471 and strong: H6099 but [as for] you, no man H376 hath been able to stand H5975 (QalPerf) before H6440 you unto this day. H3117

And Jehovah is dispossessing from before you nations great and mighty; as for you, none hath stood in your presence till this day;

One man of you shall chase a thousand; for it is Yahweh your God who fights for you, as he spoke to you.

one man of you doth pursue a thousand, for Jehovah your God is He who is fighting for you, as He hath spoken to you;

So Joshua sent the people away, each to his own inheritance.

Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.

The watchers saw a man come out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”

and the watchers see a man coming out from the city, and say to him, ‘Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance of the city, and we have done with thee kindness.’

He showed them the entrance into the city, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man and all his family go.

The man went into the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.

and the man goeth to the land of the Hittites, and buildeth a city, and calleth its name Luz-it is its name unto this day.

Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land.

And when Joshua H3091 had let the people H5971 go, H7971 (PielImpf) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went H3212 (QalImpf) every man H376 unto his inheritance H5159 to possess H3423 (QalInf) the land. H776

And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;

I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;

But when the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up a savior for them: Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. The children of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab.

And the sons of Israel cry unto Jehovah, and Jehovah raiseth to them a saviour, Ehud son of Gera, a Benjamite (a man-shut of his right hand), and the sons of Israel send by his hand a present to Eglon king of Moab;

He offered the tribute to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man.

and he bringeth near the present to Eglon king of Moab, and Eglon is a very fat man.

He said to them, “Follow me; for Yahweh has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.” They followed him, and took the fords of the Jordan against the Moabites, and didn’t allow any man to pass over.

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Follow H7291 (QalImpv) after H310 me: for the Lord H3068 hath delivered H5414 (QalPerf) your enemies H341 (QalActPtc) the Moabites H4124 into your hand. H3027 And they went down H3381 (QalImpf) after H310 him, and took H3920 (QalImpf) the fords H4569 of Jordan H3383 toward Moab, H4124 and suffered H5414 (QalPerf) not a man H376 to pass over. H5674 (QalInf)

and he saith unto them, ‘Pursue after me, for Jehovah hath given your enemies, the Moabites, into your hand;’ and they go down after him, and capture the passages of the Jordan towards Moab, and have not permitted a man to pass over.

They struck at that time about ten thousand men of Moab, every strong man and every man of valor. No man escaped.

And they slew H5221 (HiphImpf) of Moab H4124 at that time H6256 about ten H6235 thousand H505 men, H376 all lusty, H8082 and all men H376 of valour; H2428 and there escaped H4422 (NiphPerf) not a man. H376

And they smite Moab at that time, about ten thousand men, all robust, and every one a man of valour, and not a man hath escaped,

After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who struck six hundred men of the Philistines with an ox goad. He also saved Israel.

And after H310 him was Shamgar H8044 the son H1121 of Anath, H6067 which slew H5221 (HiphImpf) of the Philistines H6430 six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 with an ox H1241 goad: H4451 and he also delivered H3467 (HiphImpf) Israel. H3478

And after him hath been Shamgar son of Anath, and he smiteth the Philistines-six hundred men-with an ox-goad, and he saveth-he also-Israel.

She sent and called Barak the son of Abinoam out of Kedesh Naphtali, and said to him, “Hasn’t Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded, ‘Go and lead the way to Mount Tabor, and take with you ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and of the children of Zebulun?

And she sent H7971 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) Barak H1301 the son H1121 of Abinoam H42 out of Kedeshnaphtali, H6943 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Hath not the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478 commanded, H6680 (PielPerf) [saying], Go H3212 (QalImpv) and draw H4900 (QalPerf) toward mount H2022 Tabor, H8396 and take H3947 (QalPerf) with thee ten H6235 thousand H505 men H376 of the children H1121 of Naphtali H5321 and of the children H1121 of Zebulun? H2074

And she sendeth and calleth for Barak son of Abinoam, out of Kedesh-Naphtali, and saith unto him, ‘Hath not Jehovah, God of Israel, commanded? go, and thou hast drawn towards mount Tabor, and hast taken with thee ten thousand men, out of the sons of Naphtali, and out of the sons of Zebulun,

Barak called Zebulun and Naphtali together to Kedesh. Ten thousand men followed him; and Deborah went up with him.

And Barak H1301 called H2199 (HiphImpf) Zebulun H2074 and Naphtali H5321 to Kedesh; H6943 and he went up H5927 (QalImpf) with ten H6235 thousand H505 men H376 at his feet: H7272 and Deborah H1683 went up H5927 (QalImpf) with him.

And Barak calleth Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he goeth up-at his feet are ten thousand men-and Deborah goeth up with him.

Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which Yahweh has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t Yahweh gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

And Deborah H1683 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Barak, H1301 Up; H6965 (QalImpv) for this [is] the day H3117 in which the Lord H3068 hath delivered H5414 (QalPerf) Sisera H5516 into thine hand: H3027 is not the Lord H3068 gone out H3318 (QalPerf) before H6440 thee? So Barak H1301 went down H3381 (QalImpf) from mount H2022 Tabor, H8396 and ten H6235 thousand H505 men H376 after H310 him.

And Deborah saith unto Barak, ‘Rise, for this is the day in which Jehovah hath given Sisera into thy hand; hath not Jehovah gone out before thee?’ And Barak goeth down from mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.

He said to her, “Stand in the door of the tent, and if any man comes and inquires of you, and says, ‘Is there any man here?’ you shall say, ‘No.’ ”

Again he said H559 (QalImpf) unto her, Stand in H5975 (QalImpv) the door H6607 of the tent, H168 and it shall be, when any man H376 doth come H935 (QalImpf) and enquire H7592 (QalPerf) of thee, and say, H559 (QalPerf) Is there H3426 any man H376 here? H3426 that thou shalt say, H559 (QalPerf) No.

And he saith unto her, ‘Stand at the opening of the tent, and it hath been, if any doth come in, and hath asked thee, and said, Is there a man here? that thou hast said, There is not.’

Behold, as Barak pursued Sisera, Jael came out to meet him, and said to him, “Come, and I will show you the man whom you seek.” He came to her; and behold, Sisera lay dead, and the tent peg was in his temples.

And, behold, as Barak H1301 pursued H7291 (QalActPtc) Sisera, H5516 Jael H3278 came out H3318 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) him, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Come, H3212 (QalImpv) and I will shew H7200 (HiphImpf) thee the man H376 whom thou seekest. H1245 (PielPtc) And when he came H935 (QalImpf) into her [tent], behold, Sisera H5516 lay H5307 (QalActPtc) dead, H4191 (QalPtc) and the nail H3489 [was] in his temples. H7541

And lo, Barak is pursuing Sisera, and Jael cometh out to meet him, and saith to him, ‘Come, and I shew thee the man whom thou art seeking;’ and he cometh in unto her, and lo, Sisera is fallen-dead, and the pin in his temples.
