Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.

and Joab seeth that the front of the battle hath been unto him before and behind, and he chooseth of all the chosen in Israel, and setteth in array to meet Aram,

When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.

And when the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 saw H7200 (QalPerf) that the Syrians H758 were fled, H5127 (QalPerf) then fled H5127 (QalImpf) they also before H6440 Abishai, H52 and entered H935 (QalImpf) into the city. H5892 So Joab H3097 returned H7725 (QalImpf) from the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and came H935 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem. H3389

and the Bene-Ammon have seen that Aram hath fled, and they flee from the presence of Abishai, and go in to the city; and Joab turneth back from the Bene-Ammon, and cometh in to Jerusalem.

When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.

And when the Syrians H758 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they were smitten H5062 (NiphPerf) before H6440 Israel, H3478 they gathered H622 (NiphImpf) themselves together. H3162

And Aram seeth that it is smitten before Israel, and they are gathered together;

When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.

And when all the kings H4428 [that were] servants H5650 to Hadarezer H1928 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they were smitten H5062 (NiphPerf) before H6440 Israel, H3478 they made peace H7999 (HiphImpf) with Israel, H3478 and served H5647 (QalImpf) them. So the Syrians H758 feared H3372 (QalImpf) to help H3467 (HiphInf) the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 any more.

And all the kings-servants of Hadadezer-see that they have been smitten before Israel, and make peace with Israel, and serve them; and Aram is afraid to help any more the Bene-Ammon.

At evening, David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. From the roof, he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to look at.

and it cometh to pass, at evening-time, that David riseth from off his couch, and walketh up and down on the roof of the king’s house, and seeth from the roof a woman bathing, and the woman is of very good appearance,

But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”

And David seeth that his servants are whispering, and David understandeth that the lad is dead, and David saith unto his servants, ‘Is the lad dead?’ and they say, ‘Dead.’

Jonadab said to him, “Lay down on your bed and pretend to be sick. When your father comes to see you, tell him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me bread to eat, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’ ”

And Jonadab saith to him, ‘Lie down on thy couch, and feign thyself sick, and thy father hath come in to see thee, and thou hast said unto him, ‘Let, I pray thee, Tamar my sister come in and give me bread to eat; and she hath made the food before mine eyes so that I see it, and have eaten from her hand.’

So Amnon lay down and faked being sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”

And Amnon lieth down, and feigneth himself sick, and the king cometh in to see him, and Amnon saith unto the king, ‘Let, I pray thee, Tamar my sister come, and she maketh before mine eyes two cakes, and I eat from her hand.’

Absalom commanded his servants, saying, “Mark now, when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, ‘Strike Amnon,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!”

And Absalom commandeth his young men, saying, ‘See, I pray thee, when the heart of Amnon is glad with wine, and I have said unto you, Smite Amnon, that ye have put him to death; fear not; is it not because I have commanded you? be strong, yea, become sons of valour.’

But Absalom fled. The young man who kept the watch lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming by way of the hillside behind him.

And Absalom fleeth, and the young man who is watching lifteth up his eyes and looketh, and lo, much people are coming by the way behind him, on the side of the hill.

The king said, “Let him return to his own house, but let him not see my face.” So Absalom returned to his own house, and didn’t see the king’s face.

And the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Let him turn H5437 (NiphImpf) to his own house, H1004 and let him not see H7200 (QalImpf) my face. H6440 So Absalom H53 returned H5437 (NiphImpf) to his own house, H1004 and saw H7200 (QalPerf) not the king’s H4428 face. H6440

and the king saith, ‘Let him turn round unto his house, and my face he doth not see.’ And Absalom turneth round unto his house, and the face of the king he hath not seen.

Absalom lived two full years in Jerusalem, and he didn’t see the king’s face.

So Absalom H53 dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) two full H3117 years H8141 in Jerusalem, H3389 and saw H7200 (QalPerf) not the king’s H4428 face. H6440

And Absalom dwelleth in Jerusalem two years of days, and the face of the king he hath not seen;

Therefore he said to his servants, “Behold, Joab’s field is near mine, and he has barley there. Go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

And he saith unto his servants, ‘See, the portion of Joab is by the side of mine, and he hath barley there; go, and burn it with fire;’ and the servants of Absalom burn the portion with fire.

Absalom answered Joab, “Behold, I sent to you, saying, ‘Come here, that I may send you to the king, to say, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still. Now therefore, let me see the king’s face; and if there is iniquity in me, let him kill me.” ’ ”

And Absalom saith unto Joab, ‘Lo, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, and I send thee unto the king to say, Why have I come in from Geshur?-good for me while I am there-and now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is in me iniquity then thou hast put me to death.’

Absalom said to him, “Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you.”

And Absalom saith unto him, ‘See, thy matters are good and straightforward-and there is none hearkening to thee from the king.’

The king said to Zadok, “Carry God’s ark back into the city. If I find favor in Yahweh’s eyes, he will bring me again, and show me both it and his habitation;

And the king saith to Zadok, ‘Take back the ark of God to the city; if I find grace in the eyes of Jehovah, then He hath brought me back, and shewn me it and His habitation;

The king said also to Zadok the priest, “Aren’t you a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.

And the king saith unto Zadok the priest, ‘Art thou a seer? turn back to the city in peace, and Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan son of Abiathar, your two sons with you;

Behold, I will stay at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”

See, H7200 (QalImpv) I will tarry H4102 (HippPtc) in the plain H6160 (Qere) H5679 of the wilderness, H4057 until there come H935 (QalInf) word H1697 from you to certify H5046 (HiphInf) me.

see ye, I am tarrying in the plains of the wilderness till the coming in of a word from you to declare to me.’

It may be that Yahweh will look on the wrong done to me, and that Yahweh will repay me good for the cursing of me today.”

It may be that the Lord H3068 will look H7200 (QalImpf) on mine affliction, H5869 (Qere) H6040 and that the Lord H3068 will requite H7725 (HiphPerf) me good H2896 for his cursing H7045 this day. H3117

it may be Jehovah doth look on mine affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to me good for his reviling this day.’

Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En Rogel; and a female servant used to go and report to them, and they went and told King David; for they couldn’t risk being seen coming into the city.

Now Jonathan H3083 and Ahimaaz H290 stayed H5975 (QalActPtc) by Enrogel; H5883 for they might H3201 (QalImpf) not be seen H7200 (NiphInf) to come H935 (QalInf) into the city: H5892 and a wench H8198 went H1980 (QalPerf) and told H5046 (HiphPerf) them; and they went H3212 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphPerf) king H4428 David. And Jonathan and Ahimaaz are standing at En-Rogel, and the maid-servant hath gone and declared to them-and they go and have declared it to king David-for they are not able to be seen to go in to the city.

But a boy saw them, and told Absalom. Then they both went away quickly and came to the house of a man in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down there.

Nevertheless a lad H5288 saw H7200 (QalImpf) them, and told H5046 (HiphImpf) Absalom: H53 but they went H3212 (QalImpf) both H8147 of them away quickly, H4120 and came H935 (QalImpf) to a man’s H376 house H1004 in Bahurim, H980 which had a well H875 in his court; H2691 whither H8033 they went down. And a youth seeth them, and declareth to Absalom; and they go on both of them hastily, and come in unto the house of a man in Bahurim, and he hath a well in his court, and they go down there,

When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, arose, and went home to his city, set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

And Ahithophel hath seen that his counsel was not done, and he saddleth the ass, and riseth and goeth unto his house, unto his city, and giveth charge unto his household, and strangleth himself, and dieth, and he is buried in the burying-place of his father.

A certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, “Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.”

And one man seeth, and declareth to Joab, and saith, ‘Lo, I saw Absalom hanged in an oak.’

Joab said to the man who told him, “Behold, you saw it, and why didn’t you strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver and a sash.”

And Joab saith to the man who is declaring it to him, ‘And lo, thou hast seen-and wherefore didst thou not smite him there to the earth-and on me to give to thee ten silverlings and one girdle?’

Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen!” The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.

And Joab saith to Cushi, ‘Go, declare to the king that which thou hast seen;’ and Cushi boweth himself to Joab, and runneth.

Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.

And David is sitting between the two gates, and the watchman goeth unto the roof of the gate, unto the wall, and lifteth up his eyes, and looketh, and lo, a man running by himself.

The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, “Behold, a man running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”

And the watchman H6822 (QalActPtc) saw H7200 (QalImpf) another H312 man H376 running: H7323 (QalPtc) and the watchman H6822 (QalActPtc) called H7121 (QalImpf) unto the porter, H7778 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold [another] man H376 running H7323 (QalPtc) alone. And the watchman seeth another man running, and the watchman calleth unto the gatekeeper, and saith, ‘Lo, a man running by himself;’ and the king saith, ‘Also this one is bearing tidings.’

The watchman said, “I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” The king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.”

And the watchman H6822 (QalActPtc) said, H559 (QalImpf) Me thinketh H7200 (QalActPtc) the running H4794 of the foremost H7223 is like the running H4794 of Ahimaaz H290 the son H1121 of Zadok. And the watchman saith, ‘I see the running of the first as the running of Ahimaaz son of Zadok.’ And the king saith, ‘This is a good man, and with good tidings he cometh.’

The king said, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant, even me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I don’t know what it was.”

And the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Is the young man H5288 Absalom H53 safe? H7965 And Ahimaaz H290 answered, H559 (QalImpf) When Joab H3097 sent H7971 (QalInf) the king’s H4428 servant, H5650 and [me] thy servant, H5650 I saw H7200 (QalPerf) a great H1419 tumult, H1995 but I knew H3045 (QalPerf) not what [it was].

And the king saith, ‘Peace to the youth-to Absalom?’ And Ahimaaz saith, ‘I saw the great multitude, at the sending away of the servant of the king, even thy servant by Joab, and I have not known what it is.’

Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the highway. When the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.

And Amasa is rolling himself in blood, in the midst of the highway, and the man seeth that all the people have stood still, and he bringeth round Amasa out of the highway to the field, and casteth over him a garment, when he hath seen that every one who hath come by him-hath stood still.

He rode on a cherub, and flew. Yes, he was seen on the wings of the wind.

And He rideth on a cherub, and doth fly, And is seen on the wings of the wind.

Then the channels of the sea appeared. The foundations of the world were laid bare by Yahweh’s rebuke, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.

And seen are the streams of the sea, Revealed are foundations of the world, By the rebuke of Jehovah, From the breath of the spirit of His anger.

Joab said to the king, “Now may Yahweh your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”

And Joab H3097 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the king, H4428 Now the Lord H3068 thy God H430 add H3254 (HiphImpf) unto the people, H5971 how many soever H1992 they be, an hundredfold, H3967 H6471 and that the eyes H5869 of my lord H113 the king H4428 may see H7200 (QalActPtc) [it]: but why doth my lord H113 the king H4428 delight H2654 (QalPerf) in this thing? H1697

And Joab saith unto the king, ‘Yea, Jehovah thy God doth add unto the people, as they are, a hundred times, and the eyes of my lord the king are seeing; and my lord the king, why is he desirous of this thing?’

So Gad came to David, and told him, saying, “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land? Now answer, and consider what answer I shall return to him who sent me.”

So Gad H1410 came H935 (QalImpf) to David, H1732 and told H5046 (HiphImpf) him, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Shall seven H7651 years H8141 of famine H7458 come H935 (QalImpf) unto thee in thy land? H776 or wilt thou flee H5127 (QalInf) three H7969 months H2320 before H6440 thine enemies, H6862 while they pursue H7291 (QalActPtc) thee? or that there be three H7969 days’ H3117 pestilence H1698 in thy land? H776 now advise, H3045 (QalImpv) and see H7200 (QalImpv) what answer H1697 I shall return H7725 (HiphImpf) to him that sent H7971 (QalActPtc) me.

And Gad cometh in unto David, and declareth to him, and saith to him, ‘Do seven years of famine come in to thee in thy land? or three months art thou fleeing before thine adversary-and he pursuing thee? or are three days’ pestilence in thy land? now, know and see what word I take back to Him sending me.’

David spoke to Yahweh when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, “Behold, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”

And David H1732 spake H559 (QalImpf) unto the Lord H3068 when he saw H7200 (QalInf) the angel H4397 that smote H5221 (HiphPtc) the people, H5971 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Lo, I have sinned, H2398 (QalPerf) and I have done wickedly: H5753 (HiphPerf) but these sheep, H6629 what have they done? H6213 (QalPerf) let thine hand, H3027 I pray thee, be against me, and against my father’s H1 house. H1004

And David speaketh unto Jehovah, when he seeth the messenger who is smiting among the people, and saith, ‘Lo, I have sinned, yea, I have done perversely; and these-the flock-what have they done? Let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father.’

Araunah looked out, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him. Then Araunah went out and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

And Araunah looketh, and seeth the king and his servants passing over unto him, and Araunah goeth out and boweth himself to the king-his face to the earth.

Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him. Behold, the cattle for the burnt offering, and the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood.

And Araunah saith unto David, ‘Let my lord the king take and cause to ascend that which is good in his eyes; see, the oxen for a burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments, and the instruments of the oxen, for wood;’

Also thus said the king, ‘Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, my eyes even seeing it.’ ”

And also thus said H559 (QalPerf) the king, H4428 Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 which hath given H5414 (QalPerf) [one] to sit H3427 (QalActPtc) on my throne H3678 this day, H3117 mine eyes H5869 even seeing H7200 (QalActPtc) [it].

and also thus hath the king said, Blessed is Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath given to-day one sitting on my throne, and mine eyes seeing.’

In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

In Gibeon H1391 the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) to Solomon H8010 in a dream H2472 by night: H3915 and God H430 said, H559 (QalImpf) Ask H7592 (QalImpv) what I shall give H5414 (QalImpf) thee.

In Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, ‘Ask-what do I give to thee?’

All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.

And all Israel H3478 heard H8085 (QalImpf) of the judgment H4941 which the king H4428 had judged; H8199 (QalPerf) and they feared H3372 (QalImpf) the king: H6440 for they saw H7200 (QalPerf) that the wisdom H2451 of God H430 [was] in him, H7130 to do H6213 (QalInf) judgment. H4941

And all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God is in his heart, to do judgment.

There was cedar on the house within, carved with buds and open flowers. All was cedar. No stone was visible.

And the cedar H730 of the house H1004 within H6441 [was] carved H4734 with knops H6497 and open H6362 (QalPasPtc) flowers: H6731 all [was] cedar; H730 there was no stone H68 seen. H7200 (NiphPerf)

And the cedar for the house within is carvings of knobs and openings of flowers; the whole is cedar, there is not a stone seen.

The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they were not seen outside. They are there to this day.

And they drew out H748 (HiphImpf) the staves, H905 that the ends H7218 of the staves H905 were seen out H7200 (NiphImpf) in the holy H6944 [place] before H6440 the oracle, H1687 and they were not seen H7200 (NiphImpf) without: H2351 and there they are unto this day. H3117

and they lengthen the staves, and the heads of the staves are seen from the holy place on the front of the oracle, and are not seen without, and they are there unto this day.

Yahweh appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

That the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphImpf) to Solomon H8010 the second time, H8145 as he had appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto him at Gibeon. H1391

that Jehovah appeareth unto Solomon a second time, as He appeared unto him in Gibeon,

Hiram came out of Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they didn’t please him.

And Hiram H2438 came out H3318 (QalImpf) from Tyre H6865 to see H7200 (QalInf) the cities H5892 which Solomon H8010 had given H5414 (QalPerf) him; and they pleased H3474 (QalPerf) H5869 him not.

And Hiram cometh out from Tyre to see the cities that Solomon hath given to him, and they have not been right in his eyes,

When the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built,

And when the queen H4436 of Sheba H7614 had seen H7200 (QalImpf) all Solomon’s H8010 wisdom, H2451 and the house H1004 that he had built, H1129 (QalPerf)

And the queen of Sheba seeth all the wisdom of Solomon, and the house that he built,

However, I didn’t believe the words until I came and my eyes had seen it. Behold, not even half was told me! Your wisdom and prosperity exceed the fame which I heard.

Howbeit I believed H539 (HiphPerf) not the words, H1697 until I came, H935 (QalPerf) and mine eyes H5869 had seen H7200 (QalImpf) [it]: and, behold, the half H2677 was not told H5046 (HophPerf) me: thy wisdom H2451 and prosperity H2896 exceedeth H3254 (HiphPerf) the fame H8052 which I heard. and I gave no credence to the words till that I have come, and my eyes see, and lo, it was not declared to me-the half; thou hast added wisdom and goodness unto the report that I heard.

The king made of the almug trees pillars for Yahweh’s house and for the king’s house, harps also and stringed instruments for the singers; no such almug trees came or were seen to this day.

And the king H4428 made H6213 (QalImpf) of the almug H484 trees H6086 pillars H4552 for the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 and for the king’s H4428 house, H1004 harps H3658 also and psalteries H5035 for singers: H7891 (QalActPtc) there came H935 (QalPerf) no such almug H484 trees, H6086 nor were seen H7200 (NiphPerf) unto this day. H3117

and the king maketh the almug-trees a support for the house of Jehovah, and for the house of the king, and harps and psalteries for singers; there have not come such almug-trees, nor have there been seen such unto this day.

Yahweh was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from Yahweh, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

And the Lord H3068 was angry H599 (HithImpf) with Solomon, H8010 because his heart H3824 was turned H5186 (QalPerf) from the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 which had appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto him twice, H6471

And Jehovah sheweth Himself angry with Solomon, for his heart hath turned aside from Jehovah, God of Israel, who had appeared unto him twice,

The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon saw the young man that he was industrious, and he put him in charge of all the labor of the house of Joseph.

And the man H376 Jeroboam H3379 [was] a mighty man H1368 of valour: H2428 and Solomon H8010 seeing H7200 (QalImpf) the young man H5288 that he was industrious, H6213 (QalActPtc) H4399 he made him ruler H6485 (HiphImpf) over all the charge H5447 of the house H1004 of Joseph. H3130

and the man Jeroboam is mighty in valour, and Solomon seeth the young man that he is doing business, and appointeth him over all the burden of the house of Joseph.

When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

So H7725 (HiphImpf) when all Israel H3478 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that the king H4428 hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) not unto them, the people H5971 answered H1697 the king, H4428 saying, H559 (QalInf) What portion H2506 have we in David? And all Israel see that the king hath not hearkened unto them, and the people send the king back word, saying, ‘What portion have we in David? yea, there is no inheritance in the son of Jesse; to thy tents, O Israel; now see thy house, O David!’ and Israel goeth to its tents.
