“From on high has he sent fire into my bones, and it prevails against them. He has spread a net for my feet. He has turned me back. He has made me desolate and I faint all day long.

“For these things I weep. My eye, my eye runs down with water, because the comforter who should refresh my soul is far from me. My children are desolate, because the enemy has prevailed.”

He has cut off all the horn of Israel in fierce anger. He has drawn back his right hand from before the enemy. He has burned up Jacob like a flaming fire, which devours all around.

He hath cut off in the heat of anger every horn of Israel, He hath turned backward His right hand From the face of the enemy, And He burneth against Jacob as a flaming fire, It hath devoured round about.

Yahweh has purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out the line. He has not withdrawn his hand from destroying; He has made the rampart and wall lament. They languish together.

Devised hath Jehovah to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion, He hath stretched out a line, He hath not turned His hand from destroying, And He causeth bulwark and wall to mourn, Together-they have been weak.

Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you. They have not uncovered your iniquity, to reverse your captivity, but have seen for you false revelations and causes of banishment.

Thy prophets have seen for thee a false and insipid thing, And have not revealed concerning thine iniquity, To turn back thy captivity, And they see for thee false burdens and causes of expulsion.

Surely he turns his hand against me again and again all day long.

Surely against me He turneth back, He turneth His hand all the day.

This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Yahweh.

“Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he will die. Because you have not given him warning, he will die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done will not be remembered; but I will require his blood at your hand.

‘And in the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, and he hath done perversity, and I have put a stumbling-block before him, he dieth; because thou hast not warned him, in his sin he dieth, and not remembered is his righteousness that he hath done, and his blood from thy hand I require.

For the seller won’t return to that which is sold, although they are still alive; for the vision concerns the whole multitude of it. None will return. None will strengthen himself in the iniquity of his life.

He said also to me, “You will again see more of the great abominations which they do.”

Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? You will again see yet greater abominations than these.”

Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence, and have turned again to provoke me to anger. Behold, they put the branch to their nose.

And He saith unto me, ‘Hast thou seen, son of man? hath it been a light thing to the house of Judah to do the abomination that they have done here, that they have filled the land with violence, and turn back to provoke Me to anger? and lo, they are putting forth the branch unto their nose!

Behold, the man clothed in linen, who had the inkhorn by his side, reported the matter, saying, “I have done as you have commanded me.”

Because with lies you have grieved the heart of the righteous, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, and be saved alive.

Because of paining the heart of the righteous with falsehood, And I have not pained it, And strengthening the hands of the wicked, So as not to turn back from his evil way, To keep him alive,

“Therefore tell the house of Israel, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Return, and turn yourselves from your idols! Turn away your faces from all your abominations.

‘Therefore say unto the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Turn ye back, yea, turn ye back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces,

“ ‘ “I will reverse their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your captives among them;

and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;

And the wicked-when he turneth back From all his sins that he hath done, And he hath kept all My statutes, And hath done judgment and righteousness, He doth surely live, he doth not die.

Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh, “and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

Do I at all desire the death of the wicked? An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Is it not in his turning back from his way- And he hath lived?

“But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, should he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.

But when the righteous H6662 turneth away H7725 (QalInf) from his righteousness, H6666 and committeth H6213 (QalPerf) iniquity, H5766 [and] doeth H6213 (QalImpf) according to all the abominations H8441 that the wicked H7563 [man] doeth, H6213 (QalPerf) shall he live? And in the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, And he hath done perversity, According to all the abominations That the wicked hath done, he doth-thus he liveth, All his righteousnesses that he hath done are not remembered, For his trespass that he hath trespassed, And for his sin that he hath sinned, For them he doth die.

When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in it, then he dies in his iniquity that he has done.

When a righteous H6662 [man] turneth away H7725 (QalInf) from his righteousness, H6666 and committeth H6213 (QalPerf) iniquity, H5766 and dieth H4191 (QalPerf) in them; for his iniquity H5766 that he hath done H6213 (QalPerf) shall he die. H4191 (QalImpf)

In the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, And he hath done perversity, And he is dying by them, for his perversity That he hath done he dieth.

Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive.

Again, when the wicked H7563 [man] turneth away H7725 (QalInf) from his wickedness H7564 that he hath committed, H6213 (QalPerf) and doeth H6213 (QalImpf) that which is lawful H4941 and right, H6666 he shall save H2421 his soul H5315 alive. H2421 (PielImpf)

And in the turning back of the wicked From his wickedness that he hath done, And he doth judgment and righteousness, He his soul doth keep alive.

Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live. He shall not die.

“Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin.

For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Therefore turn yourselves, and live!

Nevertheless I withdrew my hand and worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I brought them out.

And I have turned back My hand, And I do it for My name’s sake, Not to pollute it before the eyes of the nations, Before whose eyes I brought them out.

All flesh will know that I, Yahweh, have drawn my sword out of its sheath. It will not return any more.” ’

And known have all flesh that I, Jehovah, Have brought out My sword from its scabbard, It doth not turn back any more.

Cause it to return into its sheath. In the place where you were created, in the land of your birth, I will judge you.

Shall I cause [it] to return H7725 (HiphImpv) into his sheath? H8593 I will judge H8199 (QalImpf) thee in the place H4725 where thou wast created, H1254 (NiphPerf) in the land H776 of thy nativity. H4351

Turn it back unto its scabbard, In the place where thou wast produced, In the land of thy birth I do judge thee.

“ ‘ “The men of Dedan traded with you. Many islands were the market of your hand. They brought you horns of ivory and ebony in exchange.

I will reverse the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their birth. There they will be a lowly kingdom.

Nevertheless, if thou warn H2094 (HiphPerf) the wicked H7563 of his way H1870 to turn H7725 (QalInf) from it; if he do not turn H7725 (QalPerf) from his way, H1870 he shall die H4191 (QalImpf) in his iniquity; H5771 but thou hast delivered H5337 (HiphPerf) thy soul. H5315

And thou, when thou hast warned the wicked of his way, to turn back from it, And he hath not turned back from his way, He in his iniquity doth die, And thou thy soul hast delivered.

Tell them, ‘ “As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, house of Israel?” ’

Say H559 (QalImpv) unto them, [As] I live, H2416 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H136 God, H3069 I have no pleasure H2654 (QalImpf) in the death H4194 of the wicked; H7563 but that the wicked H7563 turn H7725 (QalInf) from his way H1870 and live: H2421 (QalPerf) turn H7725 (QalImpv) ye, turn H7725 (QalImpv) ye from your evil H7451 ways; H1870 for why will ye die, H4191 (QalImpf) O house H1004 of Israel? Say unto them, I live-an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, I delight not in the death of the wicked, But-in the turning of the wicked from his way, And he hath lived, Turn back, turn back, from your evil ways, Yea, why do ye die, O house of Israel?

“You, son of man, tell the children of your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous will not deliver him in the day of his disobedience. And as for the wickedness of the wicked, he will not fall by it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither will he who is righteous be able to live by it in the day that he sins.

Therefore, thou son H1121 of man, H120 say H559 (QalImpv) unto the children H1121 of thy people, H5971 The righteousness H6666 of the righteous H6662 shall not deliver H5337 (HiphImpf) him in the day H3117 of his transgression: H6588 as for the wickedness H7564 of the wicked, H7563 he shall not fall H3782 (NiphImpf) thereby in the day H3117 that he turneth H7725 (QalInf) from his wickedness; H7562 neither shall the righteous H6662 be able H3201 (QalImpf) to live H2421 (QalInf) for his [righteousness] in the day H3117 that he sinneth. And thou, son of man, say unto the sons of thy people: The righteousness of the righteous doth not deliver him in the day of his transgression, And the wickedness of the wicked, He doth not stumble for it in the day of his turning from his wickedness, And the righteous is not able to live in it in the day of his sinning.

Again, when I say to the wicked, “You will surely die,” if he turns from his sin and does that which is lawful and right,

Again, when I say H559 (QalInf) unto the wicked, H7563 Thou shalt surely H4191 (QalInf) die; H4191 (QalImpf) if he turn H7725 (QalPerf) from his sin, H2403 and do H6213 (QalPerf) that which is lawful H4941 and right; H6666

And in My saying to the wicked: Thou surely diest, And-he hath turned back from his sin, And hath done judgment and righteousness,

if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity, he will surely live. He will not die.

[If] the wicked H7563 restore H7725 (HiphImpf) the pledge, H2258 give again H7999 (PielImpf) that he had robbed, H1500 walk H1980 (QalPerf) in the statutes H2708 of life, H2416 without committing H6213 (QalInf) iniquity; H5766 he shall surely H2421 (QalInf) live, H2421 (QalImpf) he shall not die. H4191 (QalImpf)

(The pledge the wicked restoreth, plunder he repayeth,) In the statutes of life he hath walked, So as not to do perversity, He surely liveth-he doth not die.

When the righteous turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, he will even die therein.

When the righteous H6662 turneth H7725 (QalInf) from his righteousness, H6666 and committeth H6213 (QalPerf) iniquity, H5766 he shall even die H4191 (QalPerf) thereby.

In the turning back of the righteous from his righteousness, And he hath done perversity-he dieth for it.

When the wicked turns from his wickedness and does that which is lawful and right, he will live by it.

But if the wicked H7563 turn H7725 (QalInf) from his wickedness, H7564 and do H6213 (QalPerf) that which is lawful H4941 and right, H6666 he shall live H2421 (QalImpf) thereby.

And in the turning back of the wicked from his wickedness, And he hath done judgment and righteousness, by them he liveth.

You haven’t strengthened the diseased. You haven’t healed that which was sick. You haven’t bound up that which was broken. You haven’t brought back that which was driven away. You haven’t sought that which was lost, but you have ruled over them with force and with rigor.

The diseased H2470 (NiphPtc) have ye not strengthened, H2388 (PielPerf) neither have ye healed H7495 (PielPerf) that which was sick, H2470 (QalActPtc) neither have ye bound up H2280 (QalPerf) [that which was] broken, H7665 (NiphPtc) neither have ye brought again H7725 (HiphPerf) that which was driven away, H5080 (NiphPtc) neither have ye sought H1245 (PielPerf) that which was lost; H6 (QalActPtc) but with force H2394 and with cruelty H6531 have ye ruled H7287 (QalPerf) them.

The weak ye have not strengthened, And the sick one ye have not healed, And the broken ye have not bound up, And the driven away have not brought back, And the lost ye have not sought, And with might ye have ruled them and with rigour.
