και εν τω καιρω εκεινω ηλθεν ανανι ο προφητης προς ασα βασιλεα ιουδα και ειπεν αυτω εν τω πεποιθεναι σε επι βασιλεα συριας και μη πεποιθεναι σε επι κυριον θεον σου δια τουτο εσωθη δυναμις συριας απο της χειρος σου

ουχ οι αιθιοπες και λιβυες ησαν εις δυναμιν πολλην εις θαρσος εις ιππεις εις πληθος σφοδρα και εν τω πεποιθεναι σε επι κυριον παρεδωκεν εις τας χειρας σου

He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body° killed him there with the sword.

και μετα ταυτα ωκοδομησεν τειχος εξω της πολεως δαυιδ απο λιβος κατα γιων εν τω χειμαρρω και εκπορευομενων την πυλην την κυκλοθεν και εις το οφλα και υψωσεν σφοδρα και κατεστησεν αρχοντας της δυναμεως εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν ταις τειχηρεσιν εν ιουδα

For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy on the way, because we had spoken to the king, saying, “The hand of our God is on all those who seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all those who forsake him.”

οτι ησχυνθην αιτησασθαι παρα του βασιλεως δυναμιν και ιππεις σωσαι ημας απο εχθρου εν τη οδω οτι ειπαμεν τω βασιλει λεγοντες χειρ του θεου ημων επι παντας τους ζητουντας αυτον εις αγαθον και κρατος αυτου και θυμος αυτου επι παντας εγκαταλειποντας αυτον

Then I came to the governors beyond the River, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.

ως επεταξεν αυτοις χρησθαι τοις νομοις αυτων εν παση πολει βοηθησαι τε αυτοις και χρησθαι τοις αντιδικοις αυτων και τοις αντικειμενοις αυτων ως βουλονται

whose harvest the hungry eat up, and take it even out of the thorns. The snare gapes for their substance.

α γαρ εκεινοι συνηγαγον δικαιοι εδονται αυτοι δε εκ κακων ουκ εξαιρετοι εσονται εκσιφωνισθειη αυτων η ισχυς

He will not be rich, neither will his substance continue, neither will their possessions be extended on the earth.

He shall not be rich, H6238 (QalImpf) neither shall his substance H2428 continue, H6965 (QalImpf) neither shall he prolong H5186 (QalImpf) the perfection H4512 thereof upon the earth. H776

ουτε μη πλουτισθη ουτε μη μεινη αυτου τα υπαρχοντα ου μη βαλη επι την γην σκιαν

He has swallowed down riches, and he will vomit them up again. God will cast them out of his belly.

πλουτος αδικως συναγομενος εξεμεσθησεται εξ οικιας αυτου εξελκυσει αυτον αγγελος

He will restore that for which he labored, and will not swallow it down. He will not rejoice according to the substance that he has gotten.

εις κενα και ματαια εκοπιασεν πλουτον εξ ου ου γευσεται ωσπερ στριφνος αμασητος ακαταποτος

“Why do the wicked live, become old, yes, and grow mighty in power?

δια τι ασεβεις ζωσιν πεπαλαιωνται δε και εν πλουτω

If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

ει δε και ευφρανθην πολλου πλουτου μοι γενομενου ει δε και επ αναριθμητοις εθεμην χειρα μου

the God who arms me with strength, and makes my way perfect?

^[17:33] ο θεος ο περιζωννυων με δυναμιν και εθετο αμωμον την οδον μου

For you have armed me with strength to the battle. You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.

There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.

Don’t kill them, or my people may forget. Scatter them by your power, and bring them down, Lord our shield.

^[58:12] μη αποκτεινης αυτους μηποτε επιλαθωνται του λαου μου διασκορπισον αυτους εν τη δυναμει σου και καταγαγε αυτους ο υπερασπιστης μου κυριε

Through God we will do valiantly, for it is he who will tread down our adversaries.
