Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am dying, but God will be with you, and bring you again to the land of your fathers.

αθροισθητε και ακουσατε υιοι ιακωβ ακουσατε ισραηλ του πατρος υμων

Boiling over like water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed, then defiled it. He went up to my couch.

εξυβρισας ως υδωρ μη εκζεσης ανεβης γαρ επι την κοιτην του πατρος σου τοτε εμιανας την στρωμνην ου ανεβης

“Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your father’s sons will bow down before you.

even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my ancestors, above the boundaries of the ancient hills. They will be on the head of Joseph, on the crown of the head of him who is separated from his brothers.

ευλογιας πατρος σου και μητρος σου υπερισχυσεν επ ευλογιαις ορεων μονιμων και επ ευλογιαις θινων αεναων εσονται επι κεφαλην ιωσηφ και επι κορυφης ων ηγησατο αδελφων

Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him.

Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.

‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying. Bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’ ”

Pharaoh said, “Go up, and bury your father, just like he made you swear.”

Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Egypt,

They came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and severe lamentation. He mourned for his father seven days.

Joseph returned into Egypt—he, and his brothers, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will fully pay us back for all the evil which we did to him.”

They sent a message to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before he died, saying,

‘You shall tell Joseph, “Now please forgive the disobedience of your brothers, and their sin, because they did evil to you.” ’ Now, please forgive the disobedience of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

ουτως ειπατε ιωσηφ αφες αυτοις την αδικιαν και την αμαρτιαν αυτων οτι πονηρα σοι ενεδειξαντο και νυν δεξαι την αδικιαν των θεραποντων του θεου του πατρος σου και εκλαυσεν ιωσηφ λαλουντων αυτων προς αυτον

Joseph lived in Egypt, he, and his father’s house. Joseph lived one hundred ten years.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. They came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

Moreover he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” Moses hid his face because he was afraid to look at God.

Moses said to God, “Behold, when I come to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what should I tell them?”

και ειπεν μωυσης προς τον θεον ιδου εγω ελευσομαι προς τους υιους ισραηλ και ερω προς αυτους ο θεος των πατερων υμων απεσταλκεν με προς υμας ερωτησουσιν με τι ονομα αυτω τι ερω προς αυτους

God said moreover to Moses, “You shall tell the children of Israel this, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and this is my memorial to all generations.

και ειπεν ο θεος παλιν προς μωυσην ουτως ερεις τοις υιοις ισραηλ κυριος ο θεος των πατερων υμων θεος αβρααμ και θεος ισαακ και θεος ιακωβ απεσταλκεν με προς υμας τουτο μου εστιν ονομα αιωνιον και μνημοσυνον γενεων γενεαις

Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt.

ελθων ουν συναγαγε την γερουσιαν των υιων ισραηλ και ερεις προς αυτους κυριος ο θεος των πατερων υμων ωπται μοι θεος αβρααμ και θεος ισαακ και θεος ιακωβ λεγων επισκοπη επεσκεμμαι υμας και οσα συμβεβηκεν υμιν εν αιγυπτω

“This is so that they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

That they may believe H539 (HiphImpf) that the Lord H3068 God H430 of their fathers, H1 the God H430 of Abraham, H85 the God H430 of Isaac, H3327 and the God H430 of Jacob, H3290 hath appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto thee.

These are the heads of their fathers’ houses. The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

και ουτοι αρχηγοι οικων πατριων αυτων υιοι ρουβην πρωτοτοκου ισραηλ ενωχ και φαλλους ασρων και χαρμι αυτη η συγγενεια ρουβην

Eleazar Aaron’s son took one of the daughters of Putiel as his wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites according to their families.

And Eleazar H499 Aaron’s H175 son H1121 took H3947 (QalPerf) him [one] of the daughters H1323 of Putiel H6317 to wife; H802 and she bare H3205 (QalImpf) him Phinehas: H6372 these [are] the heads H7218 of the fathers H1 of the Levites H3881 according to their families. H4940

και ελεαζαρ ο του ααρων ελαβεν των θυγατερων φουτιηλ αυτω γυναικα και ετεκεν αυτω τον φινεες αυται αι αρχαι πατριας λευιτων κατα γενεσεις αυτων

Your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’ ” He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth day of this month, they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household;

λαλησον προς πασαν συναγωγην υιων ισραηλ λεγων τη δεκατη του μηνος τουτου λαβετωσαν εκαστος προβατον κατ οικους πατριων εκαστος προβατον κατ οικιαν

It shall be, when Yahweh brings you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

και εσται ηνικα εαν εισαγαγη σε κυριος ο θεος σου εις την γην των χαναναιων και χετταιων και ευαιων και γεργεσαιων και αμορραιων και φερεζαιων και ιεβουσαιων ην ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν σου δουναι σοι γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι και ποιησεις την λατρειαν ταυτην εν τω μηνι τουτω

“It shall be, when Yahweh brings you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and will give it to you,

And it shall be when the Lord H3068 shall bring H935 (HiphImpf) thee into the land H776 of the Canaanites, H3669 as he sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto thee and to thy fathers, H1 and shall give H5414 (QalPerf) it thee,

και εσται ως αν εισαγαγη σε κυριος ο θεος σου εις την γην των χαναναιων ον τροπον ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν σου και δωσει σοι αυτην

Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation. This is my God, and I will praise him; my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

βοηθος και σκεπαστης εγενετο μοι εις σωτηριαν ουτος μου θεος και δοξασω αυτον θεος του πατρος μου και υψωσω αυτον

The name of the other was Eliezer,° for he said, “My father’s God was my help and delivered me from Pharaoh’s sword.”

Exodus 18:4 Eliezer means “God is my helper”.

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.
