[1] Dead flies cause the oil of the perfumer to produce an evil odor;
so does a little folly outweigh wisdom and honor.
[2] A wise man’s heart is at his right hand,
but a fool’s heart at his left. [3] Yes also when the fool walks by the way, his understanding fails him, and he says to everyone that he is a fool. [4] If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, don’t leave your place; for gentleness lays great offenses to rest. [5] There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, the sort of error which proceeds from the ruler. [6] Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in a low place. [7] I have seen servants on horses, and princes walking like servants on the earth. [8] He who digs a pit may fall into it; and whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. [9] Whoever carves out stones may be injured by them. Whoever splits wood may be endangered by it. [10] If the ax is blunt, and one doesn’t sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but skill brings success. [11] If the snake bites before it is charmed, then is there no profit for the charmer’s tongue. [12] The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but a fool is swallowed by his own lips. [13] The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness; and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. [14] A fool also multiplies words.Man doesn’t know what will be; and that which will be after him, who can tell him? [15] The labor of fools wearies every one of them; for he doesn’t know how to go to the city.
[16] Woe to you, land, when your king is a child,
and your princes eat in the morning!
[17] Happy are you, land, when your king is the son of nobles,
and your princes eat in due season,
for strength, and not for drunkenness!
[18] By slothfulness the roof sinks in;
and through idleness of the hands the house leaks.
[19] A feast is made for laughter,
and wine makes the life glad;
and money is the answer for all things.
[20] Don’t curse the king, no, not in your thoughts;
and don’t curse the rich in your bedroom,
for a bird of the sky may carry your voice,
and that which has wings may tell the matter.
so does a little folly outweigh wisdom and honor.

King James Version
[1] DeadH4194 fliesH2070 cause the ointmentH8081 of the apothecaryH7543(QalActPtc) to send forthH5042(HiphImpf) a stinking savour:H887(HiphImpf) [so doth] a littleH4592 follyH5531 him that is in reputationH3368 for wisdomH2451 [and] honour.H3519 [2] A wise man’sH2450 heartH3820 [is] at his right hand;H3225 but a fool’sH3684 heartH3820 at his left.H8040 [3] Yea also, when he that is a foolH5530 walkethH1980(QalActPtc) by the way,H1870 his wisdomH3820 failethH2638 [him], and he saithH559(QalPerf) to every one [that] he [is] a fool.H5530 [4] If the spiritH7307 of the rulerH4910(QalActPtc) rise upH5927(QalImpf) against thee, leaveH3240(HiphImpf) not thy place;H4725 for yieldingH4832 pacifiethH3240(HiphImpf) greatH1419 offences.H2399 [5] There isH3426 an evilH7451 [which] I have seenH7200(QalPerf) under the sun,H8121 as an errorH7684 [which] proceedethH3318(QalActPtc) fromH6440 the ruler:H7989 [6] FollyH5529 is setH5414(NiphPerf) in greatH7227 dignity,H4791 and the richH6223 sitH3427(QalImpf) in low place.H8216 [7] I have seenH7200(QalPerf) servantsH5650 upon horses,H5483 and princesH8269 walkingH1980(QalActPtc) as servantsH5650 upon the earth.H776 [8] He that diggethH2658(QalActPtc) a pitH1475 shall fallH5307(QalImpf) into it; and whoso breakethH6555(QalActPtc) an hedge,H1447 a serpentH5175 shall biteH5391(QalImpf) him. [9] Whoso removethH5265(HiphPtc) stonesH68 shall be hurtH6087(NiphImpf) therewith; [and] he that cleavethH1234(QalActPtc) woodH6086 shall be endangeredH5533(NiphImpf) thereby. [10] If the ironH1270 be blunt,H6949(PielPerf) and he do not whetH7043(PilpPerf) the edge,H6440 then must he putH1396(PielImpf) to more strength:H2428 but wisdomH2451 [is] profitableH3504 to direct.H3787(HiphInf) [11] Surely the serpentH5175 will biteH5391(QalImpf) without enchantment;H3908 and a babblerH3956 is no better.H3504 [12] The wordsH1697 of a wise man’sH2450 mouthH6310 [are] gracious;H2580 but the lipsH8193 of a foolH3684 will swallow upH1104(PielImpf) himself. [13] The beginningH8462 of the wordsH1697 of his mouthH6310 [is] foolishness:H5531 and the endH319 of his talkH6310 [is] mischievousH7451 madness.H1948 [14] A foolH5530 also is fullH7235(HiphImpf) of words:H1697 a manH120 cannot tellH3045(QalImpf) what shall be; and what shall be afterH310 him, who can tellH5046(HiphImpf) him? [15] The labourH5999 of the foolishH3684 weariethH3021(PielImpf) every one of them, because he knowethH3045(QalPerf) not how to goH3212(QalInf) to the city.H5892 [16] WoeH337 to thee, O land,H776 when thy kingH4428 [is] a child,H5288 and thy princesH8269 eatH398(QalImpf) in the morning!H1242 [17] BlessedH835 [art] thou, O land,H776 when thy kingH4428 [is] the sonH1121 of nobles,H2715 and thy princesH8269 eatH398(QalImpf) in due season,H6256 for strength,H1369 and not for drunkenness!H8358 [18] By much slothfulnessH6103 the buildingH4746 decayeth;H4355(NiphImpf) and through idlenessH8220 of the handsH3027 the houseH1004 droppeth through.H1811(QalImpf) [19] A feastH3899 is madeH6213(QalActPtc) for laughter,H7814 and wineH3196 maketh merry:H8055(PielImpf) but moneyH3701 answerethH6030(QalImpf) all [things]. [20] CurseH7043(PielImpf) not the king,H4428 no not in thy thought;H4093 and curseH7043(PielImpf) not the richH6223 in thy bedchamber:H2315 for a birdH5775 of the airH8064 shall carryH3212(HiphImpf) the voice,H6963 and that which hathH1167 wingsH3671 shall tellH5046(HiphImpf) the matter.H1697
