[1] A revelation, Yahweh’s§ word to Israel by Malachi. [2] “I have loved you,” says Yahweh.Yet you say, “How have you loved us?”“Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob; [3] but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.” [4] Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.” [5] Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!” [6] “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’ [7] You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is contemptible.’ [8] When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies. [9] “Now, please entreat the favor of God,§ that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies. [10] “Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand. [11] For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies. [12] “But you profane it when you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’ [13] You say also, ‘Behold,§ what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh. [14] “But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord§ a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.”

[1] The burden H4853 of the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 to Israel H3478 by H3027 Malachi. H4401§ [2] I have loved H157 (QalPerf) you, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. H3068 Yet ye say, H559 (QalPerf) Wherein hast thou loved H157 (QalPerf) us? Was not Esau H6215 Jacob’s H3290 brother? H251 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord: H3068 yet I loved H157 (QalImpf) Jacob, H3290 [3] and I hated H8130 (QalPerf) Esau, H6215 and laid H7760 (QalImpf) his mountains H2022 and his heritage H5159 waste H8077 for the dragons H8568 of the wilderness. H4057 [4] Whereas Edom H123 saith, H559 (QalImpf) We are impoverished, H7567 (PualPerf) but we will return H7725 (QalImpf) and build H1129 (QalImpf) the desolate places; H2723 thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 They shall build, H1129 (QalImpf) but I will throw down; H2040 (QalImpf) and they shall call H7121 (QalPerf) them, The border H1366 of wickedness, H7564 and, The people H5971 against whom the Lord H3068 hath indignation H2194 (QalPerf) for H5704 ever. H5769 [5] And your eyes H5869 shall see, H7200 (QalImpf) and ye shall say, H559 (QalImpf) The Lord H3068 will be magnified H1431 (QalImpf) from§ the border H1366 of Israel. H3478 [6] A son H1121 honoureth H3513 (PielImpf) his father, H1 and a servant H5650 his master: H113 if then I be a father, H1 where is mine honour? H3519 and if I be a master, H113 where is my fear? H4172 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 unto you, O priests, H3548 that despise H959 (QalActPtc) my name. H8034 And ye say, H559 (QalPerf) Wherein have we despised H959 (QalPerf) thy name? H8034 [7] Ye offer H5066 (HiphPtc)§ polluted H1351 (PualPtc) bread H3899 upon mine altar; H4196 and ye say, H559 (QalPerf) Wherein have we polluted H1351 (PielPerf) thee? In that ye say, H559 (QalInf) The table H7979 of the Lord H3068 is contemptible. H959 (NiphPtc) [8] And if ye offer H5066 (HiphImpf) the blind H5787 for sacrifice, H2076 (QalInf)§ is it not evil? H7451 and if ye offer H5066 (HiphImpf) the lame H6455 and sick, H2470 (QalActPtc) is it not evil? H7451 offer H7126 (HiphImpv) it now unto thy governor; H6346 will he be pleased H7521 (QalImpf) with thee, or accept H5375 (QalImpf) thy person? H6440 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [9] And now, I pray you, beseech H2470 (PielImpv) God H410§ that he will be gracious H2603 (QalImpf) unto us: this hath been by your means: H3027§ will he regard H5375 (QalImpf) your persons? H6440 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [10] Who is there even among you that would shut H5462 (QalImpf) the doors H1817 for nought? neither do ye kindle H215 (HiphImpf) fire on mine altar H4196 for nought. H2600 I have no pleasure H2656 in you, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 neither will I accept H7521 (QalImpf) an offering H4503 at your hand. H3027 [11] For from the rising H4217 of the sun H8121 even unto the going down H3996 of the same my name H8034 shall be great H1419 among the Gentiles; H1471 and in every place H4725 incense H6999 (HophPtc) shall be offered H5066 (HophPtc) unto my name, H8034 and a pure H2889 offering: H4503 for my name H8034 shall be great H1419 among the heathen, H1471 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [12] But ye have profaned H2490 (PielPtc) it, in that ye say, H559 (QalInf) The table H7979 of the Lord H3068 is polluted; H1351 (PualPtc) and the fruit H5108 thereof, even his meat, H400 is contemptible. H959 (NiphPtc) [13] Ye said H559 (QalPerf) also, Behold, what a weariness H4972 is it! and ye have snuffed H5301 (HiphPerf) at it,§ saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 and ye brought H935 (HiphPerf) that which was torn, H1497 (QalPasPtc) and the lame, H6455 and the sick; H2470 (QalActPtc) thus ye brought H935 (HiphPerf) an offering: H4503 should I accept H7521 (QalImpf) this of your hand? H3027 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord. H3068 [14] But cursed H779 (QalPasPtc) be the deceiver, H5230 (QalActPtc) which H3426 hath in his flock H5739§ a male, H2145 and voweth, H5087 (QalActPtc) and sacrificeth H2076 (QalActPtc) unto the Lord H136 a corrupt thing: H7843 (HophPtc) for I am a great H1419 King, H4428 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 and my name H8034 is dreadful H3372 (NiphPtc) among the heathen.
