[1] “Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me! The Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to his temple. Behold, the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, is coming!” says Yahweh of Armies. [2] “But who can endure the day of his coming? And who will stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire, and like launderers’ soap; [3] and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi, and refine them as gold and silver; and they shall offer to Yahweh offerings in righteousness. [4] Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasant to Yahweh as in the days of old and as in ancient years. [5] I will come near to you to judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and don’t fear me,” says Yahweh of Armies. [6] “For I, Yahweh, don’t change; therefore you, sons of Jacob, are not consumed. [7] From the days of your fathers you have turned away from my ordinances and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says Yahweh of Armies. “But you say, ‘How shall we return?’ [8] Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me! But you say, ‘How have we robbed you?’ In tithes and offerings. [9] You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation. [10] Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this,” says Yahweh of Armies, “if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there will not be enough room for. [11] I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast its fruit before its time in the field,” says Yahweh of Armies. [12] “All nations shall call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land,” says Yahweh of Armies. [13] “Your words have been harsh against me,” says Yahweh. “Yet you say, ‘What have we spoken against you?’ [14] You have said, ‘It is vain to serve God,’ and ‘What profit is it that we have followed his instructions and that we have walked mournfully before Yahweh of Armies? [15] Now we call the proud happy; yes, those who work wickedness are built up; yes, they tempt God, and escape.’ [16] Then those who feared Yahweh spoke one with another; and Yahweh listened and heard, and a book of memory was written before him for those who feared Yahweh and who honored his name. [17] They shall be mine,” says Yahweh of Armies, “my own possession in the day that I make. I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him. [18] Then you shall return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him who serves God and him who doesn’t serve him.
King James Version
[1] Behold, I will send H7971 (QalActPtc) my messenger, H4397 and he shall prepare H6437 (PielPerf) the way H1870 before H6440 me: and the Lord, H113 whom ye seek, H1245 (PielPtc) shall suddenly H6597 come H935 (QalImpf) to his temple, H1964 even the messenger H4397 of the covenant, H1285 whom ye delight H2655 in: behold, he shall come, H935 (QalPerf) saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [2] But who may abide H3557 (PilpPtc) the day H3117 of his coming? H935 (QalInf) and who shall stand H5975 (QalActPtc) when he appeareth? H7200 (NiphInf) for he is like a refiner’s H6884 (PielPtc) fire, H784 and like fullers’ H3526 (PielPtc) soap: H1287 [3] and he shall sit H3427 (QalPerf) as a refiner H6884 (PielPtc) and purifier H2891 (PielPtc) of silver: H3701 and he shall purify H2891 (PielPerf) the sons H1121 of Levi, H3878 and purge H2212 (PielPerf) them as gold H2091 and silver, H3701 that they may offer H5066 (HiphPtc) unto the Lord H3068 an offering H4503 in righteousness. H6666 [4] Then shall the offering H4503 of Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389 be pleasant H6149 (QalPerf) unto the Lord, H3068 as in the days H3117 of old, H5769 and as in former H6931§ years. H8141 [5] And I will come near H7126 (QalPerf) to you to judgment; H4941 and I will be a swift H4116 (PielPtc) witness H5707 against the sorcerers, H3784 (PielPtc) and against the adulterers, H5003 (PielPtc) and against false H8267 swearers, H7650 (NiphPtc) and against those that oppress H6231 (QalActPtc)§ the hireling H7916 in his wages, H7939 the widow, H490 and the fatherless, H3490 and that turn aside H5186 (HiphPtc) the stranger H1616 from his right, and fear H3372 (QalPerf) not me, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [6] For I am the Lord, H3068 I change H8138 (QalPerf) not; therefore ye sons H1121 of Jacob H3290 are not consumed. H3615 (QalPerf)

Return Unto Me

[7] Even from the days H3117 of your fathers H1 ye are gone away H5493 (QalPerf) from mine ordinances, H2706 and have not kept H8104 (QalPerf) them. Return H7725 (QalImpv) unto me, and I will return H7725 (QalImpf) unto you, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 But ye said, H559 (QalPerf) Wherein shall we return? H7725 (QalImpf)
[8] Will a man H120 rob H6906 (QalImpf) God? H430 Yet ye have robbed H6906 (QalActPtc) me. But ye say, H559 (QalPerf) Wherein have we robbed H6906 (QalPerf) thee? In tithes H4643 and offerings. H8641 [9] Ye are cursed H779 (NiphPtc) with a curse: H3994 for ye have robbed H6906 (QalActPtc) me, even this whole nation. H1471 [10] Bring H935 (HiphImpv) ye all the tithes H4643 into the storehouse, H214 that there may be meat H2964 in mine house, H1004 and prove H974 (QalImpv) me now herewith, H2063 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 if I will not open H6605 (QalImpf) you the windows H699 of heaven, H8064 and pour you out H7324 (HiphPerf) a blessing, H1293 that there shall not be room enough H1767 to receive it. [11] And I will rebuke H1605 (QalPerf) the devourer H398 (QalActPtc) for your sakes, and he shall not destroy H7843 (HiphImpf)§ the fruits H6529 of your ground; H127 neither shall your vine H1612 cast her fruit H7921 (PielImpf) before the time in the field, H7704 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635 [12] And all nations H1471 shall call you blessed: H833 (PielPerf) for ye shall be a delightsome H2656 land, H776 saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts. H6635

Final Triumph

[13] Your words H1697 have been stout H2388 (QalPerf) against me, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord. H3068 Yet ye say, H559 (QalPerf) What have we spoken H1696 (NiphPerf) so much against thee?
[14] Ye have said, H559 (QalPerf) It is vain H7723 to serve H5647 (QalInf) God: H430 and what profit H1215 is it that we have kept H8104 (QalPerf) his ordinance, H4931§ and that we have walked H1980 (QalPerf) mournfully H6941§ before H6440 the Lord H3068 of hosts? H6635 [15] And now we call H833 the proud H2086 happy; H833 (PielPtc) yea, they that work H6213 (QalActPtc) wickedness H7564 are set up; H1129 (NiphPerf)§ yea, they that tempt H974 (QalPerf) God H430 are even delivered. H4422 (NiphImpf) [16] Then they that feared H3373 the Lord H3068 spake often H1696 (NiphPerf) one H376 to another: H7453 and the Lord H3068 hearkened, H7181 (HiphImpf) and heard H8085 (QalImpf) it, and a book H5612 of remembrance H2146 was written H3789 (NiphImpf) before H6440 him for them that feared H3373 the Lord, H3068 and that thought H2803 (QalActPtc) upon his name. H8034 [17] And they shall be mine, saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 in that day H3117 when I make up H6213 (QalActPtc) my jewels; H5459§ and I will spare H2550 (QalPerf) them, as a man H376 spareth H2550 (QalImpf) his own son H1121 that serveth H5647 (QalActPtc) him. [18] Then shall ye return, H7725 (QalPerf) and discern H7200 (QalPerf) between the righteous H6662 and the wicked, H7563 between him that serveth H5647 (QalActPtc) God H430 and him that serveth H5647 (QalPerf) him not.
