Yahweh said to me, “Arise, take your journey before the people; and they shall go in and possess the land which I swore to their fathers to give to them.”

You shall fear Yahweh your God. You shall serve him. You shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.

κυριον τον θεον σου φοβηθηση και αυτω λατρευσεις και προς αυτον κολληθηση και τω ονοματι αυτου ομη

and that you may prolong your days in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey.

ινα μακροημερευσητε επι της γης ης ωμοσεν κυριος τοις πατρασιν υμων δουναι αυτοις και τω σπερματι αυτων μετ αυτους γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι

that your days and your children’s days may be multiplied in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

εαν δε εμπλατυνη κυριος ο θεος σου τα ορια σου ον τροπον ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν σου και δω σοι κυριος πασαν την γην ην ειπεν δουναι τοις πατρασιν σου

You shall come to the priest who shall be in those days, and tell him, “I profess today to Yahweh your God, that I have come to the land which Yahweh swore to our fathers to give us.”

Look down from your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the ground which you have given us, as you swore to our fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey.”

αναστησαι σε κυριος ο θεος σου εαυτω λαον αγιον ον τροπον ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν σου εαν εισακουσης της φωνης κυριου του θεου σου και πορευθης εν ταις οδοις αυτου

Yahweh will grant you abundant prosperity in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give you.

Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which Yahweh has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it.

και εκαλεσεν μωυσης ιησουν και ειπεν αυτω εναντι παντος ισραηλ ανδριζου και ισχυε συ γαρ εισελευση προ προσωπου του λαου τουτου εις την γην ην ωμοσεν κυριος τοις πατρασιν ημων δουναι αυτοις και συ κατακληρονομησεις αυτην αυτοις

For when I have brought them into the land which I swore to their fathers, flowing with milk and honey, and they have eaten and filled themselves, and grown fat, then they will turn to other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant.

εισαξω γαρ αυτους εις την γην την αγαθην ην ωμοσα τοις πατρασιν αυτων δουναι αυτοις γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι και φαγονται και εμπλησθεντες κορησουσιν και επιστραφησονται επι θεους αλλοτριους και λατρευσουσιν αυτοις και παροξυνουσιν με και διασκεδασουσιν την διαθηκην μου

It will happen, when many evils and troubles have come on them, that this song will testify before them as a witness; for it will not be forgotten out of the mouths of their descendants; for I know their ways and what they are doing today, before I have brought them into the land which I promised them.”

και αντικαταστησεται η ωδη αυτη κατα προσωπον μαρτυρουσα ου γαρ μη επιλησθη απο στοματος αυτων και απο στοματος του σπερματος αυτων εγω γαρ οιδα την πονηριαν αυτων οσα ποιουσιν ωδε σημερον προ του εισαγαγειν με αυτους εις την γην την αγαθην ην ωμοσα τοις πατρασιν αυτων

He commissioned Joshua the son of Nun, and said, “Be strong and courageous; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land which I swore to them. I will be with you.”

And he gave Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126 a charge, H6680 (PielImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Be strong H2388 (QalImpv) and of a good courage: H553 (QalImpv) for thou shalt bring H935 (HiphImpf) the children H1121 of Israel H3478 into the land H776 which I sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto them: and I will be with thee.

και ενετειλατο μωυσης ιησοι και ειπεν αυτω ανδριζου και ισχυε συ γαρ εισαξεις τους υιους ισραηλ εις την γην ην ωμοσεν κυριος αυτοις και αυτος εσται μετα σου

Yahweh said to him, “This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’ I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, This [is] the land H776 which I sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto Abraham, H85 unto Isaac, H3327 and unto Jacob, H3290 saying, H559 (QalInf) I will give H5414 (QalImpf) it unto thy seed: H2233 I have caused thee to see H7200 (HiphPerf) [it] with thine eyes, H5869 but thou shalt not go over H5674 (QalImpf) thither.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην αυτη η γη ην ωμοσα αβρααμ και ισαακ και ιακωβ λεγων τω σπερματι υμων δωσω αυτην και εδειξα αυτην τοις οφθαλμοις σου και εκει ουκ εισελευση

“Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

Be strong H2388 (QalImpv) and of a good courage: H553 (QalImpv) for unto this people H5971 shalt thou divide for an inheritance H5157 (HiphImpf) the land, H776 which I sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto their fathers H1 to give H5414 (QalInf) them.

ισχυε και ανδριζου συ γαρ αποδιαστελεις τω λαω τουτω την γην ην ωμοσα τοις πατρασιν υμων δουναι αυτοις

Now therefore, please swear to me by Yahweh, since I have dealt kindly with you, that you also will deal kindly with my father’s house, and give me a true sign;

Now therefore, I pray you, swear H7650 (NiphImpv) unto me by the Lord, H3068 since H3588 I have shewed H6213 (QalPerf) you kindness, H2617 that ye will also shew H6213 (QalPerf) kindness H2617 unto my father’s H1 house, H1004 and give H5414 (QalPerf) me a true H571 token: H226

και νυν ομοσατε μοι κυριον τον θεον οτι ποιω υμιν ελεος και ποιησετε και υμεις ελεος εν τω οικω του πατρος μου

The men said to her, “We will be guiltless of this your oath which you’ve made us to swear.

και ειπαν οι ανδρες προς αυτην αθωοι εσμεν τω ορκω σου τουτω

But if you talk about this business of ours, then we shall be guiltless of your oath which you’ve made us to swear.”

And if thou utter H5046 (HiphImpf) this our business, H1697 then we will be quit H5355 of thine oath H7621 which thou hast made us to swear. H7650 (HiphPerf)

εαν δε τις ημας αδικηση η και αποκαλυψη τους λογους ημων τουτους εσομεθα αθωοι τω ορκω σου τουτω

For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to Yahweh’s voice. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

τεσσαρακοντα γαρ και δυο ετη ανεστραπται ισραηλ εν τη ερημω τη μαδβαριτιδι διο απεριτμητοι ησαν οι πλειστοι αυτων των μαχιμων των εξεληλυθοτων εκ γης αιγυπτου οι απειθησαντες των εντολων του θεου οις και διωρισεν μη ιδειν αυτους την γην ην ωμοσεν κυριος τοις πατρασιν αυτων δουναι ημιν γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι

Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring the woman and all that she has out from there, as you swore to her.”

και τοις δυσιν νεανισκοις τοις κατασκοπευσασιν ειπεν ιησους εισελθατε εις την οικιαν της γυναικος και εξαγαγετε αυτην εκειθεν και οσα εστιν αυτη

Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn he will lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.”

And Joshua H3091 adjured H7650 (HiphImpf) [them] at that time, H6256 saying, H559 (QalInf) Cursed H779 (QalPasPtc) [be] the man H376 before H6440 the Lord, H3068 that riseth up H6965 (QalImpf) and buildeth H1129 (QalPerf) this city H5892 Jericho: H3405 he shall lay the foundation H3245 (PielImpf) thereof in his firstborn, H1060 and in his youngest H6810 [son] shall he set up H5324 (HiphImpf) the gates H1817 of it.

και ωρκισεν ιησους εν τη ημερα εκεινη εναντιον κυριου λεγων επικαταρατος ο ανθρωπος ος οικοδομησει την πολιν εκεινην εν τω πρωτοτοκω αυτου θεμελιωσει αυτην και εν τω ελαχιστω αυτου επιστησει τας πυλας αυτης και ουτως εποιησεν οζαν ο εκ βαιθηλ εν τω αβιρων τω πρωτοτοκω εθεμελιωσεν αυτην και εν τω ελαχιστω διασωθεντι επεστησεν τας πυλας αυτης

Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to let them live. The princes of the congregation swore to them.

And Joshua H3091 made H6213 (QalImpf) peace H7965 with them, and made H3772 (QalImpf) a league H1285 with them, to let them live: H2421 (PielInf) and the princes H5387 of the congregation H5712 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) unto them.

και εποιησεν ιησους προς αυτους ειρηνην και διεθετο προς αυτους διαθηκην του διασωσαι αυτους και ωμοσαν αυτοις οι αρχοντες της συναγωγης

The children of Israel didn’t strike them, because the princes of the congregation had sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. All the congregation murmured against the princes.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 smote H5221 (HiphPerf) them not, because the princes H5387 of the congregation H5712 had sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) unto them by the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478 And all the congregation H5712 murmured H3885 (NiphImpf) against the princes. H5387

και ουκ εμαχεσαντο αυτοις οι υιοι ισραηλ οτι ωμοσαν αυτοις παντες οι αρχοντες κυριον τον θεον ισραηλ και διεγογγυσαν πασα η συναγωγη επι τοις αρχουσιν

But all the princes said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by Yahweh, the God of Israel. Now therefore we may not touch them.

But all the princes H5387 said H559 (QalImpf) unto all the congregation, H5712 We have sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) unto them by the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel: H3478 now therefore we may H3201 (QalImpf) not touch H5060 (QalInf) them.

και ειπαν οι αρχοντες παση τη συναγωγη ημεις ωμοσαμεν αυτοις κυριον τον θεον ισραηλ και νυν ου δυνησομεθα αψασθαι αυτων

We will do this to them, and let them live; lest wrath be on us, because of the oath which we swore to them.”

This we will do H6213 (QalImpf) to them; we will even let them live, H2421 (HiphInf) lest wrath H7110 be upon us, because of the oath H7621 which we sware H7650 (NiphPerf) unto them.

τουτο ποιησομεν ζωγρησαι αυτους και περιποιησομεθα αυτους και ουκ εσται καθ ημων οργη δια τον ορκον ον ωμοσαμεν αυτοις

Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where you walked shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed Yahweh my God.’

And Moses H4872 sware H7650 (NiphImpf) on that day, H3117 saying, H559 (QalInf) Surely the land H776 whereon thy feet H7272 have trodden H1869 (QalPerf) shall be thine inheritance, H5159 and thy children’s H1121 for H5704 ever, H5769 because thou hast wholly H4390 (PielPerf) followed H310 the Lord H3068 my God. και ωμοσεν μωυσης εν εκεινη τη ημερα λεγων η γη εφ ην επεβης σοι εσται εν κληρω και τοις τεκνοις σου εις τον αιωνα οτι προσετεθης επακολουθησαι οπισω κυριου του θεου ημων

So Yahweh gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give to their fathers. They possessed it, and lived in it.

And the Lord H3068 gave H5414 (QalImpf) unto Israel H3478 all the land H776 which he sware H7650 (NiphPerf) to give H5414 (QalInf) unto their fathers; H1 and they possessed H3423 (QalImpf) it, and dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) therein.

και εδωκεν κυριος τω ισραηλ πασαν την γην ην ωμοσεν δουναι τοις πατρασιν αυτων και κατεκληρονομησαν αυτην και κατωκησαν εν αυτη

Yahweh gave them rest all around, according to all that he swore to their fathers. Not a man of all their enemies stood before them. Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand.

και κατεπαυσεν αυτους κυριος κυκλοθεν καθοτι ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν αυτων ουκ ανεστη ουθεις κατενωπιον αυτων απο παντων των εχθρων αυτων παντας τους εχθρους αυτων παρεδωκεν κυριος εις τας χειρας αυτων

that you not come among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow down yourselves to them;

οπως μη εισελθητε εις τα εθνη τα καταλελειμμενα ταυτα και τα ονοματα των θεων αυτων ουκ ονομασθησεται εν υμιν ουδε μη προσκυνησητε αυτοις ουδε μη λατρευσητε αυτοις

Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you.

και ανεβη αγγελος κυριου απο γαλγαλ επι τον κλαυθμωνα και επι βαιθηλ και επι τον οικον ισραηλ και ειπεν προς αυτους κυριος κυριος ανεβιβασεν υμας εξ αιγυπτου και εισηγαγεν υμας εις την γην ην ωμοσεν τοις πατρασιν υμων του δουναι υμιν και ειπεν υμιν ου διασκεδασω την διαθηκην μου την μεθ υμων εις τον αιωνα

Wherever they went out, Yahweh’s hand was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were very distressed.

εν πασιν οις επορνευον και χειρ κυριου ην αυτοις εις κακα καθως ελαλησεν κυριος και καθως ωμοσεν κυριος και εξεθλιψεν αυτους σφοδρα

They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.”

και ειπαν αυτω του δησαι σε κατεβημεν και παραδουναι σε εις χειρας αλλοφυλων και ειπεν αυτοις σαμψων ομοσατε μοι μη αποκτειναι με υμεις και παραδοτε με αυτοις μηποτε απαντησητε υμεις εν εμοι

Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, “None of us will give his daughter to Benjamin as a wife.”

How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since we have sworn by Yahweh that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?”

However, we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, ‘Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.’ ”

και ημεις ου δυνησομεθα δουναι αυτοις γυναικας απο των θυγατερων ημων οτι ωμοσαμεν οι υιοι ισραηλ λεγοντες επικαταρατος ο διδους γυναικα τω βενιαμιν

Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be removed with sacrifice or offering forever.”

Then one of the people answered, and said, “Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food today.’ ” So the people were faint.

Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan; and Saul swore, “As Yahweh lives, he shall not be put to death.”

David swore moreover, and said, “Your father knows well that I have found favor in your eyes; and he says, ‘Don’t let Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved;’ but truly as Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, there is but a step between me and death.”

και απεκριθη δαυιδ τω ιωναθαν και ειπεν γινωσκων οιδεν ο πατηρ σου οτι ευρηκα χαριν εν οφθαλμοις σου και ειπεν μη γνωτω τουτο ιωναθαν μη ου βουληται αλλα ζη κυριος και ζη η ψυχη σου οτι καθως ειπον εμπεπλησται ανα μεσον μου και του θανατου

Jonathan caused David to swear again, for the love that he had to him; for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

και προσεθετο ετι ιωναθαν ομοσαι τω δαυιδ οτι ηγαπησεν ψυχην αγαπωντος αυτον

Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, because we have both sworn in Yahweh’s name, saying, ‘Yahweh is between me and you, and between my offspring and your offspring, forever.’ ” He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.

και ειπεν ιωναθαν πορευου εις ειρηνην και ως ομωμοκαμεν ημεις αμφοτεροι εν ονοματι κυριου λεγοντες κυριος εσται μαρτυς ανα μεσον εμου και σου και ανα μεσον του σπερματος μου και ανα μεσον του σπερματος σου εως αιωνος ^[21:1] και ανεστη δαυιδ και απηλθεν και ιωναθαν εισηλθεν εις την πολιν

Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”

David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

Saul swore to her by Yahweh, saying, “As Yahweh lives, no punishment will happen to you for this thing.”

και ωμοσεν αυτη σαουλ λεγων ζη κυριος ει απαντησεται σοι αδικια εν τω λογω τουτω

David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this troop?” He said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me and not deliver me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this troop.”

και ειπεν προς αυτον δαυιδ ει καταξεις με επι το γεδδουρ τουτο και ειπεν ομοσον δη μοι κατα του θεου μη θανατωσειν με και μη παραδουναι με εις χειρας του κυριου μου και καταξω σε επι το γεδδουρ τουτο

God do so to Abner, and more also, if, as Yahweh has sworn to David, I don’t do even so to him:
