When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck.

And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,

When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped.

And when Judah H3063 came H935 (QalPerf) toward the watch tower H4707 (QK) H4708 in the wilderness, H4057 they looked H6437 (QalImpf) unto the multitude, H1995 and, behold, they [were] dead bodies H6297 fallen H5307 (QalActPtc) to the earth, H776 and none escaped. H6413

And Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they are carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,

When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their plunder, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies with precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away. They took plunder for three days, it was so much.

And when Jehoshaphat H3092 and his people H5971 came H935 (QalImpf) to take away H962 (QalInf) the spoil H7998 of them, they found H4672 (QalImpf) among them in abundance H7230 both riches H7399 with the dead bodies, H6297 and precious H2532 jewels, H3627 which they stripped off H5337 (PielImpf) for themselves, more than H369 they could carry away: H4853 and they were three H7969 days H3117 in gathering H962 (QalActPtc) of the spoil, H7998 it was so much. and Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it is abundant.

They came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments, harps, and trumpets to Yahweh’s house.

And they came H935 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem H3389 with psalteries H5035 and harps H3658 and trumpets H2689 unto the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068

And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.

A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Yahweh, the God of David your father, says, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

And there cometh in unto him a writing from Elijah the prophet, saying, ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of David thy father, Because that thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, and in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

The inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, because the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the oldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

And the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jerusalem H3389 made H4427 Ahaziah H274 his youngest H6996 son H1121 king H4427 (HiphImpf) in his stead: for the band of men H1416 that came H935 (QalActPtc) with the Arabians H6163 to the camp H4264 had slain H2026 (QalPerf) all the eldest. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem cause Ahaziah his youngest son to reign in his stead, (for all the elder had the troop slain that came in with the Arabians to the camp,) and Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah reigneth.

Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram; for when he had come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off Ahab’s house.

And the destruction H8395 of Ahaziah H274 was of God H430 by coming H935 (QalInf) to Joram: H3141 for when he was come, H935 (QalInf) he went out H3318 (QalPerf) with Jehoram H3088 against Jehu H3058 the son H1121 of Nimshi, H5250 whom the Lord H3068 had anointed H4886 (QalPerf) to cut off H3772 (HiphInf) the house H1004 of Ahab. and from God hath been the destruction of Ahaziah, to come unto Joram: and in his coming he hath gone out with Jehoram unto Jehu son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

He sought Ahaziah, and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria), and they brought him to Jehu and killed him; and they buried him, for they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” The house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom.

And he seeketh Ahaziah, and they capture him, (and he is hiding himself in Samaria), and bring him in unto Jehu, and put him to death, and bury him, for they said, ‘He is son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Jehovah with all his heart;’ and there is none to the house of Ahaziah to retain power for the kingdom.

They went around in Judah and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers’ households of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

And they went about H5437 (QalImpf) in Judah, H3063 and gathered H6908 (QalImpf) the Levites H3881 out of all the cities H5892 of Judah, H3063 and the chief H7218 of the fathers H1 of Israel, H3478 and they came H935 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem. H3389

And they go round about in Judah, and gather the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and heads of the fathers of Israel, and come in unto Jerusalem,

This is the thing that you must do: a third part of you, who come in on the Sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be gatekeepers of the thresholds.

This [is] the thing H1697 that ye shall do; H6213 (QalImpf) A third part H7992 of you entering H935 (QalActPtc) on the sabbath, H7676 of the priests H3548 and of the Levites, H3881 [shall be] porters H7778 of the doors; H5592

‘This is the thing that ye do: The third of you, going in on the sabbath, of the priests, and of the Levites, are for gatekeepers of the thresholds,

But let no one come into Yahweh’s house except the priests and those who minister of the Levites. They shall come in, for they are holy, but all the people shall follow Yahweh’s instructions.

But let none come H935 (QalImpf) into the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 save the priests, H3548 and they that minister H8334 (PielPtc) of the Levites; H3881 they shall go in, H935 (QalImpf) for they [are] holy: H6944 but all the people H5971 shall keep H8104 (QalImpf) the watch H4931 of the Lord. ‘And none doth enter the house of Jehovah except the priests, and those ministering of the Levites (they go in for they are holy), and all the people keep the watch of Jehovah:

The Levites shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever comes into the house, let him be slain. Be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.”

And the Levites H3881 shall compass H5362 (HiphPerf) the king H4428 round about, H5439 every man H376 with his weapons H3627 in his hand; H3027 and whosoever [else] cometh H935 (QalActPtc) into the house, H1004 he shall be put to death: H4191 (HophImpf) but be ye with the king H4428 when he cometh in, H935 (QalInf) and when he goeth out. H3318 (QalInf)

and the Levites have compassed the king round about, each with his weapon in his hand, and he who hath gone in unto the house is put to death; and be ye with the king in his coming in and in his going out.’

So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. They each took his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath, with those who were to go out on the Sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest didn’t dismiss the shift.

So the Levites H3881 and all Judah H3063 did H6213 (QalImpf) according to all things that Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 had commanded, H6680 (PielPerf) and took H3947 (QalImpf) every man H376 his men H582 that were to come in H935 (QalActPtc) on the sabbath, H7676 with them that were to go H3318 (QalActPtc) [out] on the sabbath: H7676 for Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 dismissed H6358 (QalPerf) not the courses. H4256

And the Levites and all Judah do according to all that Jehoiada the priest hath commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, for Jehoiada the priest hath not let away the courses.

When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into Yahweh’s house.

Now when Athaliah H6271 heard H8085 (QalImpf) the noise H6963 of the people H5971 running H7323 (QalPtc) and praising H1984 (PielPtc) the king, H4428 she came H935 (QalImpf) to the people H5971 into the house H1004 of the Lord: H3068

And Athaliah heareth the voice of the people who are running, and who are praising the king, and she cometh in unto the people in the house of Jehovah,

Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks; and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t kill her in Yahweh’s house.”

Then Jehoiada H3077 the priest H3548 brought out H3318 (HiphImpf) the captains H8269 of hundreds H3967 that were set over H6485 (QalPasPtc) the host, H2428 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Have her forth H3318 (HiphImpv) of the ranges: H1004 H7713 and whoso followeth H935 (QalActPtc) H310 her, let him be slain H4191 (HophImpf) with the sword. H2719 For the priest H3548 said, H559 (QalPerf) Slay H4191 (HiphImpf) her not in the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068

And Jehoiada the priest bringeth out the heads of the hundreds, inspectors of the force, and saith unto them, ‘Take her out from within the rows, and he who hath gone after her is put to death by the sword;’ for the priest said, ‘Put her not to death in the house of Jehovah.’

So they made way for her. She went to the entrance of the horse gate to the king’s house; and they killed her there.

So they laid H7760 (QalImpf) hands H3027 on her; and when she was come H935 (QalImpf) to the entering H3996 of the horse H5483 gate H8179 by the king’s H4428 house, H1004 they slew H4191 (HiphImpf) her there.

And they make for her sides, and she cometh in unto the entrance of the gate of the horses at the house of the king, and they put her to death there.

All the people went to the house of Baal, broke it down, broke his altars and his images in pieces, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

Then all the people H5971 went H935 (QalImpf) to the house H1004 of Baal, H1168 and brake it down, H5422 (QalImpf) and brake H7665 his altars H4196 and his images H6754 in pieces, H7665 (PielPerf) and slew H2026 (QalPerf) Mattan H4977 the priest H3548 of Baal H1168 before H6440 the altars. H4196

and all the people enter the house of Baal, and break it down, yea, his altars and his images they have broken, and Mattan priest of Baal they have slain before the altars.

He set the gatekeepers at the gates of Yahweh’s house, that no one who was unclean in anything should enter in.

And he set H5975 (HiphImpf) the porters H7778 at the gates H8179 of the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 that none [which was] unclean H2931 in any thing H1697 should enter in. H935 (QalImpf)

and he stationeth the gatekeepers over the gates of the house of Jehovah, and the unclean in anything doth not go in.

He took the captains of hundreds, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought the king down from Yahweh’s house. They came through the upper gate to the king’s house, and set the king on the throne of the kingdom.

And he took H3947 (QalImpf) the captains H8269 of hundreds, H3967 and the nobles, H117 and the governors H4910 (QalActPtc) of the people, H5971 and all the people H5971 of the land, H776 and brought down H3381 (HiphImpf) the king H4428 from the house H1004 of the Lord: H3068 and they came H935 (QalImpf) through H8432 the high H5945 gate H8179 into the king’s H4428 house, H1004 and set H3427 (HiphImpf) the king H4428 upon the throne H3678 of the kingdom. H4467

And he taketh the heads of the hundreds, and the honourable ones, and the rulers among the people, and all the people of the land, and bringeth down the king from the house of Jehovah, and they come in through the high gate to the house of the king, and cause the king to sit on the throne of the kingdom.

The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the Tent of the Testimony?”

And the king H4428 called H7121 (QalImpf) for Jehoiada H3077 the chief, H7218 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Why hast thou not required H1875 (QalPerf) of the Levites H3881 to bring in H935 (HiphInf) out of Judah H3063 and out of Jerusalem H3389 the collection, H4864 [according to the commandment] of Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the Lord, H3068 and of the congregation H6951 of Israel, H3478 for the tabernacle H168 of witness? H5715

And the king calleth for Jehoiada the head, and saith to him, ‘Wherefore hast thou not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the tribute of Moses, servant of Jehovah, and of the assembly of Israel, for the tent of the testimony?

They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

And they made H5414 (QalImpf) a proclamation H6963 through Judah H3063 and Jerusalem, H3389 to bring in H935 (HiphInf) to the Lord H3068 the collection H4864 [that] Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of God H430 [laid] upon Israel H3478 in the wilderness. H4057

and give an intimation in Judah and in Jerusalem to bring in to Jehovah the tribute of Moses, servant of God, laid on Israel in the wilderness.

All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had filled it.

And all the princes H8269 and all the people H5971 rejoiced, H8055 (QalImpf) and brought in, H935 (HiphImpf) and cast H7993 (HiphImpf) into the chest, H727 until they had made an end. H3615 (PielInf)

And all the heads, and all the people rejoice, and they bring in, and cast into the chest, unto completion.

Whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

Now it came to pass, that at what time H6256 the chest H727 was brought H935 (HiphImpf) unto the king’s H4428 office H6486 by the hand H3027 of the Levites, H3881 and when they saw H7200 (QalInf) that [there was] much H7227 money, H3701 the king’s H4428 scribe H5608 (QalActPtc) and the high H7218 priest’s H3548 officer H6496 came H935 (QalPerf) and emptied H6168 (PielImpf) the chest, H727 and took H5375 (QalImpf) it, and carried H7725 it to his place H4725 again. H7725 (HiphImpf) Thus they did H6213 (QalPerf) day H3117 by day, H3117 and gathered H622 (QalImpf) money H3701 in abundance. H7230

And it cometh to pass, at the time one bringeth in the chest for the inspection of the king by the hand of the Levites, and at their seeing that the money is abundant, that a scribe of the king hath come in, and an officer of the head-priest, and they empty the chest, and take it up and turn it back unto its place; thus they have done day by day, and gather money in abundance.

When they had finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, from which were made vessels for Yahweh’s house, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, including spoons and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in Yahweh’s house continually all the days of Jehoiada.

And when they had finished H3615 (PielInf) [it], they brought H935 (HiphPerf) the rest H7605 of the money H3701 before H6440 the king H4428 and Jehoiada, H3077 whereof were made H6213 (QalImpf) vessels H3627 for the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 [even] vessels H3627 to minister, H8335 and to offer H5927 (HiphInf) [withal], and spoons, H3709 and vessels H3627 of gold H2091 and silver. H3701 And they offered H5927 (HiphPtc) burnt offerings H5930 in the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 continually H8548 all the days H3117 of Jehoiada. H3077

And at their completing it, they have brought in before the king and Jehoiada the rest of the money, and they make it vessels for the house of Jehovah, vessels of serving, and of offering up, and spoons, even vessels of gold and silver; and they are causing burnt-offerings to ascend in the house of Jehovah continually, all the days of Jehoiada.

Now after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and bowed down to the king. Then the king listened to them.

Now after H310 the death H4194 of Jehoiada H3077 came H935 (QalPerf) the princes H8269 of Judah, H3063 and made obeisance H7812 (HithImpf) to the king. H4428 Then the king H4428 hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) unto them.

And after the death of Jehoiada come in have heads of Judah, and bow themselves to the king; then hath the king hearkened unto them,

At the end of the year, the army of the Syrians came up against him. They came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.

And it came to pass at the end H8622 of the year, H8141 [that] the host H2428 of Syria H758 came up H5927 (QalPerf) against him: and they came H935 (QalImpf) to Judah H3063 and Jerusalem, H3389 and destroyed H7843 (HiphImpf) all the princes H8269 of the people H5971 from among the people, H5971 and sent H7971 (PielPerf) all the spoil H7998 of them unto the king H4428 of Damascus. H1834

And it cometh to pass, at the turn of the year, come up hath the force of Aram against him, and they come in unto Judah and Jerusalem, and destroy all the heads of the people from the people, and all their spoil they have sent to the king of Damascus,

For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

For the army H2428 of the Syrians H758 came H935 (QalPerf) with a small H4705 company of men, H582 and the Lord H3068 delivered H5414 (QalPerf) a very H3966 great H7230 host H2428 into their hand, H3027 because they had forsaken H5800 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of their fathers. H1 So they executed H6213 (QalPerf) judgment H8201 against Joash. H3101

for with few men have the force of Aram come in, and Jehovah hath given into their hand a mighty force for multitude, because they have forsaken Jehovah, God of their fathers; and with Joash they have executed judgments.

A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you, for Yahweh is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.

But there came H935 (QalPerf) a man H376 of God H430 to him, saying, H559 (QalInf) O king, H4428 let not the army H6635 of Israel H3478 go H935 (QalImpf) with thee; for the Lord H3068 [is] not with Israel, H3478 [to wit, with] all the children H1121 of Ephraim. H669

and a man of God hath come in unto him, saying, ‘O king, the host of Israel doth not go with thee; for Jehovah is not with Israel-all the sons of Ephraim;

But if you will go, take action, and be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”

But if thou wilt go, H935 (QalImpv) do H6213 (QalImpv) [it], be strong H2388 (QalImpv) for the battle: H4421 God H430 shall make thee fall H3782 (HiphImpf) before H6440 the enemy: H341 (QalActPtc) for God H430 hath H3426 power H3581 to help, H5826 (QalInf) and to cast down. H3782 (HiphInf)

but if thou art going-do it, be strong for battle, God doth cause thee to stumble before an enemy, for there is power in God to help, and to cause to stumble.’

Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again. Therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

Then Amaziah H558 separated H914 (HiphImpf) them, [to wit], the army H1416 that was come H935 (QalPerf) to him out of Ephraim, H669 to go H3212 home H4725 again: H3212 (QalInf) wherefore their anger H639 was greatly H3966 kindled H2734 (QalImpf) against Judah, H3063 and they returned H7725 (QalImpf) home H4725 in great H2750 anger. And Amaziah separateth them-for the troop that hath come in unto him from Ephraim to go to their own place, and their anger doth burn mightily against Judah, and they turn back to their place in the heat of anger.

The children of Judah carried away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.

And [other] ten H6235 thousand H505 [left] alive H2416 did the children H1121 of Judah H3063 carry away captive, H7617 (QalPerf) and brought H935 (HiphImpf) them unto the top H7218 of the rock, H5553 and cast them down H7993 (HiphImpf) from the top H7218 of the rock, H5553 that they all were broken in pieces. H1234 (NiphPerf)

And ten thousand alive have the sons of Judah taken captive, and they bring them to the top of the rock, and cast them from the top of the rock, and all of them have been broken.

Now after Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them and burned incense to them.

Now it came to pass, after H310 that Amaziah H558 was come H935 (QalInf) from the slaughter H5221 (HiphInf) of the Edomites, H130 that he brought H935 (HiphImpf) the gods H430 of the children H1121 of Seir, H8165 and set them up H5975 (HiphImpf) [to be] his gods, H430 and bowed down H7812 (HithImpf) himself before H6440 them, and burned incense H6999 (PielImpf) unto them.

And it cometh to pass, after the coming in of Amaziah from smiting the Edomites, that he bringeth in the gods of the sons of Seir, and establisheth them to him for gods, and before them doth bow himself, and to them he maketh perfume.

Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.°

And Amaziah king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, hath Joash king of Israel caught in Beth-Shemesh, and bringeth him in to Jerusalem, and breaketh down in the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the gate of the corner, four hundred cubits,

The Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah. His name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt, for he grew exceedingly strong.

And the Ammonites H5984 gave H5414 (QalImpf) gifts H4503 to Uzziah: H5818 and his name H8034 spread abroad H3212 (QalImpf) [even] to the entering H935 (QalInf) in of Egypt; H4714 for he strengthened H2388 (HiphPerf) [himself] exceedingly. H4605

And the Ammonites give a present to Uzziah, and his name goeth unto the entering in of Egypt, for he strengthened himself greatly.

But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly and he trespassed against Yahweh his God, for he went into Yahweh’s temple to burn incense on the altar of incense.

H7004

And at his being strong his heart hath been high unto destruction, and he trespasseth against Jehovah his God, and goeth in unto the temple of Jehovah to make perfume upon the altar of perfume.

Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of Yahweh, who were valiant men.

And Azariah H5838 the priest H3548 went in H935 (QalImpf) after H310 him, and with him fourscore H8084 priests H3548 of the Lord, H3068 [that were] valiant H2428 men: H1121

And Azariah the priest goeth in after him, and with him priests of Jehovah eighty, sons of valour,

He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, according to all that his father Uzziah had done. However he didn’t enter into Yahweh’s temple. The people still acted corruptly.

And he did H6213 (QalImpf) [that which was] right H3477 in the sight H5869 of the Lord, H3068 according to all that his father H1 Uzziah H5818 did: H6213 (QalPerf) howbeit he entered H935 (QalPerf) not into the temple H1964 of the Lord. H3068 And the people H5971 did yet corruptly. H7843 (HiphPtc)

And he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that Uzziah his father did; only, he hath not come in unto the temple of Jehovah; and again are the people doing corruptly.

Therefore Yahweh his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria. They struck him, and carried away from him a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. He was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with a great slaughter.

Wherefore the Lord H3068 his God H430 delivered H5414 (QalImpf) him into the hand H3027 of the king H4428 of Syria; H758 and they smote H5221 (HiphImpf) him, and carried away H7617 (QalImpf) a great multitude H1419 of them captives, H7633 and brought H935 (HiphImpf) [them] to Damascus. And Jehovah his God giveth him into the hand of the king of Aram, and they smite him, and take captive from him a great captivity, and bring them in to Damascus, and also into the hand of the king of Israel he hath been given, and he smiteth him-a great smiting.

The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and also took away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria.

And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 carried away captive H7617 (QalImpf) of their brethren H251 two hundred H3967 thousand, H505 women, H802 sons, H1121 and daughters, H1323 and took also away H962 (QalPerf) much H7227 spoil H7998 from them, and brought H935 (HiphImpf) the spoil H7998 to Samaria. And the sons of Israel take captive of their brethren, two hundred thousand, wives, sons and daughters, and also much spoil they have seized from them, and they bring in the spoil to Samaria.

But a prophet of Yahweh was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, “Behold, because Yahweh, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven.

And there hath been there a prophet of Jehovah (Oded is his name), and he goeth out before the host that hath come in to Samaria, and saith to them, ‘Lo, in the fury of Jehovah God of your fathers against Judah, He hath given them into your hand, and ye slay among them in rage-unto the heavens it hath come;

Then some of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who came from the war,

And certain of the heads of the sons of Ephraim (Azariah son of Johanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai), rise up against those coming in from the host,

and said to them, “You must not bring in the captives here, for you intend that which will bring on us a trespass against Yahweh, to add to our sins and to our guilt; for our guilt is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

And said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Ye shall not bring in H935 (HiphImpf) the captives H7633 hither: for whereas we have offended H819 against the Lord H3068 [already], ye intend H559 (QalActPtc) to add H3254 (HiphInf) [more] to our sins H2403 and to our trespass: H819 for our trespass H819 is great, H7227 and [there is] fierce H2740 wrath H639 against Israel. and say to them, ‘Ye do not bring in the captives hither, for, to guilt against Jehovah on us, ye are saying to add unto our sin and unto our guilt? for abundant is the guilt we have, and the fierceness of anger on Israel.’

The men who have been mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria.

and the men who have been expressed by name rise and take hold on the captives, and all their naked ones they have clothed from the spoil, yea, they clothe them, and shoe them, and cause them to eat and drink, and anoint them, and lead them on asses, even every feeble one, and bring them in to Jericho, the city of palms, near their brethren, and turn back to Samaria.

For again the Edomites had come and struck Judah, and carried away captives.

For again the Edomites H130 had come H935 (QalPerf) and smitten H5221 (HiphImpf) Judah, H3063 and carried away H7617 (QalImpf) captives. H7628

and again the Edomites have come, and smite in Judah, and take captive a captivity.

Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him and gave him trouble, but didn’t strengthen him.

And Tilgathpilneser H8407 king H4428 of Assyria H804 came H935 (QalImpf) unto him, and distressed H6696 (QalImpf) him, but strengthened H2388 (QalPerf) him not.

And Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur cometh in unto him, and doth distress him, and hath not strengthened him,

Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, because they didn’t bring him into the tombs of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

And Ahaz lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the city, in Jerusalem, but have not brought him in to the graves of the kings of Israel, and reign doth Hezekiah his son in his stead.

He brought in the priests and the Levites and gathered them together into the wide place on the east,

and bringeth in the priests and the Levites, and gathereth them to the broad place to the east.

They gathered their brothers, sanctified themselves, and went in, according to the commandment of the king by Yahweh’s words, to cleanse Yahweh’s house.

And they gathered H622 (QalImpf) their brethren, H251 and sanctified H6942 (HithImpf) themselves, and came, H935 (QalImpf) according to the commandment H4687 of the king, H4428 by the words H1697 of the Lord, H3068 to cleanse H2891 (PielInf) the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068

and they gather their brethren, and sanctify themselves, and come in, according to the command of the king in the matters of Jehovah, to cleanse the house of Jehovah,

The priests went into the inner part of Yahweh’s house to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in Yahweh’s temple into the court of Yahweh’s house. The Levites took it from there to carry it out to the brook Kidron.

And the priests H3548 went H935 (QalImpf) into the inner part H6441 of the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 to cleanse H2891 (PielInf) [it], and brought out H3318 (HiphImpf) all the uncleanness H2932 that they found H4672 (QalPerf) in the temple H1964 of the Lord H3068 into the court H2691 of the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068 And the Levites H3881 took H6901 (PielImpf) [it], to carry [it] out H3318 (HiphInf) abroad H2351 into the brook H5158 Kidron. H6939

and the priests come in to the inner part of the house of Jehovah to cleanse it, and bring out all the uncleanness that they have found in the temple of Jehovah to the court of the house of Jehovah, and the Levites receive it, to take it out to the brook Kidron without.

Now they began on the first day of the first month to sanctify, and on the eighth day of the month they came to Yahweh’s porch. They sanctified Yahweh’s house in eight days, and on the sixteenth day of the first month they finished.
