και ην τουτω παις θρεπτη θυγατηρ αμιναδαβ αδελφου πατρος αυτου και ονομα αυτη εσθηρ εν δε τω μεταλλαξαι αυτης τους γονεις επαιδευσεν αυτην εαυτω εις γυναικα και ην το κορασιον καλον τω ειδει

So, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to the citadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, Esther was taken into the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.

So it came to pass, when the king’s H4428 commandment H1697 and his decree H1881 was heard, H8085 (NiphInf) and when many H7227 maidens H5291 were gathered together H6908 (NiphInf) unto Shushan H7800 the palace, H1002 to the custody H3027 of Hegai, H1896 that Esther H635 was brought H3947 (NiphImpf) also unto the king’s H4428 house, H1004 to the custody H3027 of Hegai, H1896 keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the women. και οτε ηκουσθη το του βασιλεως προσταγμα συνηχθησαν κορασια πολλα εις σουσαν την πολιν υπο χειρα γαι και ηχθη εσθηρ προς γαι τον φυλακα των γυναικων

Esther had not made known her people nor her relatives, because Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make it known.

Esther H635 had not shewed H5046 (HiphPerf) her people H5971 nor her kindred: H4138 for Mordecai H4782 had charged H6680 (PielPerf) her that she should not shew H5046 (HiphImpf) it.

και ουχ υπεδειξεν εσθηρ το γενος αυτης ουδε την πατριδα ο γαρ μαρδοχαιος ενετειλατο αυτη μη απαγγειλαι

Mordecai walked every day in front of the court of the women’s house, to find out how Esther was doing, and what would become of her.

And Mordecai H4782 walked H1980 (HithPtc) every day H3117 before H6440 the court H2691 of the women’s H802 house, H1004 to know H3045 (QalInf) how^§ Esther H635 did, H7965 and what should become H6213 (NiphImpf) of her.

Esther 2:11 Heb. to know the peace

καθ εκαστην δε ημεραν ο μαρδοχαιος περιεπατει κατα την αυλην την γυναικειαν επισκοπων τι εσθηρ συμβησεται

Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her.

Now when the turn H8447 of Esther, H635 the daughter H1323 of Abihail H32 the uncle H1730 of Mordecai, H4782 who had taken H3947 (QalPerf) her for his daughter, H1323 was come H5060 (HiphInf) to go in H935 (QalInf) unto the king, H4428 she required H1245 (PielPerf) nothing H1697 but what Hegai H1896 the king’s H4428 chamberlain, H5631 the keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the women, H802 appointed. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

και εισηλθεν εσθηρ προς αρταξερξην τον βασιλεα τω δωδεκατω μηνι ος εστιν αδαρ τω εβδομω ετει της βασιλειας αυτου

The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty.

και εποιησεν ο βασιλευς ποτον πασι τοις φιλοις αυτου και ταις δυναμεσιν επι ημερας επτα και υψωσεν τους γαμους εσθηρ και αφεσιν εποιησεν τοις υπο την βασιλειαν αυτου

Esther had not yet made known her relatives nor her people, as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai, like she did when she was brought up by him.

This thing became known to Mordecai, who informed Esther the queen; and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name.

Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth, but he didn’t receive it.

So Esther’s H635 maids H5291 and her chamberlains^§ H5631 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) it her. και εισηλθον αι αβραι και οι ευνουχοι της βασιλισσης και ανηγγειλαν αυτη και εταραχθη ακουσασα το γεγονος και απεστειλεν στολισαι τον μαρδοχαιον και αφελεσθαι αυτου τον σακκον ο δε ουκ επεισθη

Then Esther called for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend her, and commanded him to go to Mordecai, to find out what this was, and why it was.

Esther 4:5 Heb. whom he had set before her

η δε εσθηρ προσεκαλεσατο αχραθαιον τον ευνουχον αυτης ος παρειστηκει αυτη και απεστειλεν μαθειν αυτη παρα του μαρδοχαιου το ακριβες

He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people.

Also he gave H5414 (QalPerf) him the copy H6572 of the writing H3791 of the decree H1881 that was given H5414 (NiphPerf) at Shushan H7800 to destroy H8045 (HiphInf) them, to shew H7200 (HiphInf) it unto Esther, H635 and to declare H5046 (HiphInf) it unto her, and to charge H6680 (PielInf) her that she should go in H935 (QalInf) unto the king, H4428 to make supplication H2603 (HithInf) unto him, and to make request H1245 (PielInf) before H6440 him for her people. Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.

And Hatach H2047 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) Esther H635 the words H1697 of Mordecai. H4782

εισελθων δε ο αχραθαιος ελαλησεν αυτη παντας τους λογους τουτους

Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai:

Again Esther H635 spake H559 (QalImpf) unto Hatach, H2047 and gave him commandment H6680 (PielImpf) unto Mordecai; H4782

ειπεν δε εσθηρ προς αχραθαιον πορευθητι προς μαρδοχαιον και ειπον οτι

They told Esther’s words to Mordecai.

And they told H5046 (HiphImpf) to Mordecai H4782 Esther’s H635 words. H1697

και απηγγειλεν αχραθαιος μαρδοχαιω παντας τους λογους εσθηρ

Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.

Then Mordecai H4782 commanded H559 (QalImpf) to answer H7725 (HiphInf) Esther, H635 Think H1819 (PielImpf) not with thyself H5315 that thou shalt escape H4422 (NiphInf) in the king’s H4428 house, H1004 more than all the Jews. H3064

Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai,

και εξαπεστειλεν εσθηρ τον ηκοντα προς αυτην προς μαρδοχαιον λεγουσα

So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

So Mordecai H4782 went^§ his way, H5674 (QalImpf) and did H6213 (QalImpf) according to all that Esther H635 had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) him.

Esther 4:17 Heb. passed

και βαδισας μαρδοχαιος εποιησεν οσα ενετειλατο αυτω εσθηρ

Now on the third day, Esther put on her royal clothing and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, next to the king’s house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house.

Now it came to pass on the third H7992 day, H3117 that Esther H635 put on H3847 (QalImpf) her royal H4438 apparel, and stood H5975 (QalImpf) in the inner H6442 court H2691 of the king’s H4428 house, H1004 over against H5227 the king’s H4428 house: H1004 and the king H4428 sat H3427 (QalActPtc) upon his royal H4438 throne H3678 in the royal H4438 house, H1004 over against H5227 the gate H6607 of the house. When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near and touched the top of the scepter.

And it was so, when the king H4428 saw H7200 (QalInf) Esther H635 the queen H4436 standing H5975 (QalActPtc) in the court, H2691 that she obtained H5375 (QalPerf) favour H2580 in his sight: H5869 and the king H4428 held out H3447 (HiphImpf) to Esther H635 the golden H2091 sceptre H8275 that was in his hand. H3027 So Esther H635 drew near, H7126 (QalImpf) and touched H5060 (QalImpf) the top H7218 of the sceptre. H8275

και αρας την χρυσην ραβδον επεθηκεν επι τον τραχηλον αυτης και ησπασατο αυτην και ειπεν λαλησον μοι (5:2Α) και ειπεν αυτω ειδον σε κυριε ως αγγελον θεου και εταραχθη η καρδια μου απο φοβου της δοξης σου οτι θαυμαστος ει κυριε και το προσωπον σου χαριτων μεστον (5:2Β) εν δε τω διαλεγεσθαι αυτην επεσεν απο εκλυσεως αυτης και ο βασιλευς εταρασσετο και πασα η θεραπεια αυτου παρεκαλει αυτην

Then the king asked her, “What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom.”

Then said H559 (QalImpf) the king H4428 unto her, What wilt thou, queen H4436 Esther? H635 and what is thy request? H1246 it shall be even given H5414 (NiphImpf) thee to the half H2677 of the kingdom. H4438

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς τι θελεις εσθηρ και τι σου εστιν το αξιωμα εως του ημισους της βασιλειας μου και εσται σοι

Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”

And Esther H635 answered, H559 (QalImpf) If it seem good H2895 (QalPerf) unto the king, H4428 let the king H4428 and Haman H2001 come H935 (QalImpf) this day H3117 unto the banquet H4960 that I have prepared H6213 (QalPerf) for him.

ειπεν δε εσθηρ ημερα μου επισημος σημερον εστιν ει ουν δοκει τω βασιλει ελθατω και αυτος και αμαν εις την δοχην ην ποιησω σημερον

Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said.” So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

Then the king H4428 said, H559 (QalImpf) Cause Haman H2001 to make haste, H4116 (PielImpv) that he may do H6213 (QalInf) as Esther H635 hath said. H1697 So the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 (QalImpf) to the banquet H4960 that Esther H635 had prepared. H6213 (QalPerf)

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς κατασπευσατε αμαν οπως ποιησωμεν τον λογον εσθηρ και παραγινονται αμφοτεροι εις την δοχην ην ειπεν εσθηρ

The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Esther H635 at the banquet H4960 of wine, H3196 What is thy petition? H7596 and it shall be granted H5414 (NiphImpf) thee: and what is thy request? H1246 even to the half H2677 of the kingdom H4438 it shall be performed. H6213 (NiphImpf)

εν δε τω ποτω ειπεν ο βασιλευς προς εσθηρ τι εστιν βασιλισσα εσθηρ και εσται σοι οσα αξιοις

Then Esther answered and said, “My petition and my request is this.

Then answered H6030 (QalImpf) Esther, H635 and said, H559 (QalImpf) My petition H7596 and my request H1246 is;

και ειπεν το αιτημα μου και το αξιωμα μου

Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

Haman H2001 said H559 (QalImpf) moreover, Yea, Esther H635 the queen H4436 did let no man come in H935 (HiphPerf) with the king H4428 unto the banquet H4960 that she had prepared H6213 (QalPerf) but myself; and to morrow H4279 am I invited H7121 (QalPasPtc) unto her also with the king. H4428

και ειπεν αμαν ου κεκληκεν η βασιλισσα μετα του βασιλεως ουδενα εις την δοχην αλλ η εμε και εις την αυριον κεκλημαι

While they were yet talking with him, the king’s eunuchs came, and hurried to bring Haman to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

And while they were yet talking H1696 (PielPtc) with him, came H5060 (HiphPerf) the king’s H4428 chamberlains, H5631 and hasted H926 (HiphImpf) to bring H935 (HiphInf) Haman H2001 unto the banquet H4960 that Esther H635 had prepared. H6213 (QalPerf)

ετι αυτων λαλουντων παραγινονται οι ευνουχοι επισπευδοντες τον αμαν επι τον ποτον ον ητοιμασεν εσθηρ

So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.

So the king H4428 and Haman H2001 came H935 (QalImpf) to banquet^§ H8354 (QalInf) with Esther H635 the queen. H4436

Esther 7:1 Heb. to drink

εισηλθεν δε ο βασιλευς και αμαν συμπιειν τη βασιλισση

The king said again to Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition, queen Esther? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) again unto Esther H635 on the second H8145 day H3117 at the banquet H4960 of wine, H3196 What is thy petition, H7596 queen H4436 Esther? H635 and it shall be granted H5414 (NiphImpf) thee: and what is thy request? H1246 and it shall be performed, H6213 (NiphImpf) even to the half H2677 of the kingdom. H4438

ειπεν δε ο βασιλευς εσθηρ τη δευτερα ημερα εν τω ποτω τι εστιν εσθηρ βασιλισσα και τι το αιτημα σου και τι το αξιωμα σου και εστω σοι εως του ημισους της βασιλειας μου

Then Esther the queen answered, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request.

Then Esther H635 the queen H4436 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) If I have found H4672 (QalPerf) favour H2580 in thy sight, H5869 O king, H4428 and if it please H2895 (QalPerf) the king, H4428 let my life H5315 be given H5414 (NiphImpf) me at my petition, H7596 and my people H5971 at my request: H1246

και αποκριθεισα ειπεν ει ευρον χαριν ενωπιον του βασιλεως δοθητω η ψυχη μου τω αιτηματι μου και ο λαος μου τω αξιωματι μου

Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, “Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do so?”

Then the king H4428 Ahasuerus H325 answered H559 (QalImpf) and said H559 (QalImpf) unto Esther H635 the queen, H4436 Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume H4390 (QalPerf) in his heart^§ H3820 to do H6213 (QalInf) so?

Esther 7:5 Heb. whose heart hath filled him

ειπεν δε ο βασιλευς τις ουτος οστις ετολμησεν ποιησαι το πραγμα τουτο

Esther said, “An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

ειπεν δε εσθηρ ανθρωπος εχθρος αμαν ο πονηρος ουτος αμαν δε εταραχθη απο του βασιλεως και της βασιλισσης

The king arose in his wrath from the banquet of wine and went into the palace garden. Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen, for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.

And the king H4428 arising H6965 (QalPerf) from the banquet H4960 of wine H3196 in his wrath H2534 went into the palace H1055 garden: H1594 and Haman H2001 stood up H5975 (QalPerf) to make request H1245 (PielInf) for his life H5315 to Esther H635 the queen; H4436 for he saw H7200 (QalPerf) that there was evil H7451 determined H3615 (QalPerf) against him by the king. ο δε βασιλευς εξανεστη εκ του συμποσιου εις τον κηπον ο δε αμαν παρητειτο την βασιλισσαν εωρα γαρ εαυτον εν κακοις οντα

Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman had fallen on the couch where Esther was. Then the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in front of me in the house?” As the word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face.

Then the king H4428 returned H7725 (QalPerf) out of the palace H1055 garden H1594 into the place H1004 of the banquet H4960 of wine; H3196 and Haman H2001 was fallen H5307 (QalActPtc) upon the bed H4296 whereon Esther H635 was. On that day, King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews’ enemy, to Esther the queen. Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was to her.

και εν αυτη τη ημερα ο βασιλευς αρταξερξης εδωρησατο εσθηρ οσα υπηρχεν αμαν τω διαβολω και μαρδοχαιος προσεκληθη υπο του βασιλεως υπεδειξεν γαρ εσθηρ οτι ενοικειωται αυτη

The king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet and begged him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his plan that he had planned against the Jews.

Esther 8:3 Heb. and she wept and besought him

και προσθεισα ελαλησεν προς τον βασιλεα και προσεπεσεν προς τους ποδας αυτου και ηξιου αφελειν την αμαν κακιαν και οσα εποιησεν τοις ιουδαιοις

Then the king held out to Esther the golden scepter. So Esther arose, and stood before the king.

Then King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, “See, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he laid his hand on the Jews.

The king said to Esther the queen, “The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in the citadel of Susa, including the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces! Now what is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your further request? It shall be done.”

ειπεν δε ο βασιλευς προς εσθηρ απωλεσαν οι ιουδαιοι εν σουσοις τη πολει ανδρας πεντακοσιους εν δε τη περιχωρω πως οιει εχρησαντο τι ουν αξιοις ετι και εσται σοι

Then Esther said, “If it pleases the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to do tomorrow also according to today’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged on the gallows.”
