Ezekiel 40 (WEBP)
[1] In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was struck, in the same day, Yahweh’s hand was on me, and he brought me there.
[2] In the visions of God he brought me into the land of Israel, and set me down on a very high mountain, on which was something like the frame of a city to the south.
[3] He brought me there; and, behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze, with a line of flax in his hand and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate.
[4] The man said to me, “Son of man, see with your eyes, and hear with your ears, and set your heart on all that I will show you; for you have been brought here so that I may show them to you. Declare all that you see to the house of Israel.”
[5] Behold, there was a wall on the outside of the house all around, and in the man’s hand a measuring reed six cubits° long, of a cubit and a hand width each. So he measured the thickness of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.
[6] Then he came to the gate which looks toward the east, and went up its steps. He measured the threshold of the gate, one reed wide; and the other threshold, one reed wide.
[7] Every lodge was one reed long and one reed wide. Between the lodges was five cubits. The threshold of the gate by the porch of the gate toward the house was one reed.
[8] He measured also the porch of the gate toward the house, one reed.
[9] Then he measured the porch of the gate, eight cubits; and its posts, two cubits; and the porch of the gate was toward the house.
[10] The side rooms of the gate eastward were three on this side, and three on that side. The three of them were of one measure. The posts had one measure on this side and on that side.
[11] He measured the width of the opening of the gate, ten cubits; and the length of the gate, thirteen cubits;
[12] and a border before the lodges, one cubit on this side, and a border, one cubit on that side; and the side rooms, six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
[13] He measured the gate from the roof of the one side room to the roof of the other, a width of twenty-five cubits, door against door.
[14] He also made posts, sixty cubits; and the court reached to the posts, around the gate.
[15] From the forefront of the gate at the entrance to the forefront of the inner porch of the gate were fifty cubits.
[16] There were closed windows to the side rooms, and to their posts within the gate all around, and likewise to the arches. Windows were around inward. Palm trees were on each post.
[17] Then he brought me into the outer court. Behold, there were rooms and a pavement made for the court all around. Thirty rooms were on the pavement.
[18] The pavement was by the side of the gates, corresponding to the length of the gates, even the lower pavement.
[19] Then he measured the width from the forefront of the lower gate to the forefront of the inner court outside, one hundred cubits, both on the east and on the north.
[20] He measured the length and width of the gate of the outer court which faces toward the north.
[21] The lodges of it were three on this side and three on that side. Its posts and its arches were the same as the measure of the first gate: its length was fifty cubits, and the width twenty-five cubits.
[22] Its windows, its arches, and its palm trees were the same as the measure of the gate which faces toward the east. They went up to it by seven steps. Its arches were before them.
[23] There was a gate to the inner court facing the other gate, on the north and on the east. He measured one hundred cubits from gate to gate.
[24] He led me toward the south; and behold, there was a gate toward the south. He measured its posts and its arches according to these measurements.
[25] There were windows in it and in its arches all around, like the other windows: the length was fifty cubits, and the width twenty-five cubits.
[26] There were seven steps to go up to it, and its arches were before them. It had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, on its posts.
[27] There was a gate to the inner court toward the south. He measured one hundred cubits from gate to gate toward the south.
[28] Then he brought me to the inner court by the south gate. He measured the south gate according to these measurements;
[29] with its lodges, its posts, and its arches, according to these measurements. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long, and twenty-five cubits wide.
[30] There were arches all around, twenty-five cubits long and five cubits wide.
[31] Its arches were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts. The ascent to it had eight steps.
[32] He brought me into the inner court toward the east. He measured the gate according to these measurements;
[33] with its lodges, its posts, and its arches, according to these measurements. There were windows in it and in its arches all around. It was fifty cubits long, and twenty-five cubits wide.
[34] Its arches were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts on this side and on that side. The ascent to it had eight steps.
[35] He brought me to the north gate, and he measured it according to these measurements—
[36] its lodges, its posts, and its arches. There were windows in it all around. The length was fifty cubits and the width twenty-five cubits.
[37] Its posts were toward the outer court. Palm trees were on its posts on this side and on that side. The ascent to it had eight steps.
[38] A room with its door was by the posts at the gates. They washed the burnt offering there.
[39] In the porch of the gate were two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which to kill the burnt offering, the sin offering, and the trespass offering.
[40] On the one side outside, as one goes up to the entry of the gate toward the north, were two tables; and on the other side, which belonged to the porch of the gate, were two tables.
[41] Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate: eight tables, on which they killed the sacrifices.
[42] There were four cut stone tables for the burnt offering, a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide, and one cubit high. They laid the instruments with which they killed the burnt offering and the sacrifice on them.
[43] The hooks, a hand width long, were fastened within all around. The meat of the offering was on the tables.
[44] Outside of the inner gate were rooms for the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate. They faced toward the south. One at the side of the east gate faced toward the north.
[45] He said to me, “This room, which faces toward the south, is for the priests who perform the duty of the house.
[46] The room which faces toward the north is for the priests who perform the duty of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, who from among the sons of Levi come near to Yahweh to minister to him.”
[47] He measured the court, one hundred cubits long and one hundred cubits wide, square. The altar was before the house.
[48] Then he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side. The width of the gate was three cubits on this side and three cubits on that side.
[49] The length of the porch was twenty cubits and the width eleven cubits, even by the steps by which they went up to it. There were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
Ezekiel 40:5 A normal cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters. A handbreadth is about 4.3 inches or 11 centimeters, so the long cubit described here would be about 22.3 inches or 57 centimeters long. Thus, a 6 long cubit measuring reed would have been about 3 yards 26.6 inches or about 3.42 meters long.

Ezekiel 40 (KJVS)
[1] In the five H2568 and twentieth H6242 year H8141 of our captivity H1546, in the beginning H7218 of the year H8141, in the tenth H6218 [day] of the month H2320, in the fourteenth H702 H6240 year H8141 after H310 that the city H5892 was smitten H5221 (8717), in the selfsame H6106 day H3117 the hand H3027 of the LORD H3068 was upon me, and brought H935 (8686) me thither.
[2] In the visions H4759 of God H430 brought H935 (8689) he me into the land H776 of Israel H3478, and set H5117 (8686) me upon a very H3966 high H1364 mountain H2022, by which [was] as the frame H4011 of a city H5892 on the south H5045.
[3] And he brought H935 (8686) me thither, and, behold, [there was] a man H376, whose appearance H4758 [was] like the appearance H4758 of brass H5178, with a line H6616 of flax H6593 in his hand H3027, and a measuring H4060 reed H7070; and he stood H5975 (8802) in the gate H8179.
[4] And the man H376 said H1696 (8762) unto me, Son H1121 of man H120, behold H7200 (8798) with thine eyes H5869, and hear H8085 (8798) with thine ears H241, and set H7760 (8798) thine heart H3820 upon all that I shall shew H7200 (8688) thee; for to the intent H4616 that I might shew H7200 (8687) [them] unto thee [art] thou brought H935 (8717) hither: declare H5046 (8685) all that thou seest H7200 (8802) to the house H1004 of Israel H3478.
[5] And behold a wall H2346 on the outside H2351 of the house H1004 round about H5439, and in the man’s H376 hand H3027 a measuring H4060 reed H7070 of six H8337 cubits H520 [long] by the cubit H520 and an hand breadth H2948: so he measured H4058 (8799) the breadth H7341 of the building H1146, one H259 reed H7070; and the height H6967, one H259 reed H7070.
[6] Then came H935 (8799) he unto the gate H8179 which looketh H6440 toward H1870 the east H6921, and went up H5927 (8799) the stairs H4609 thereof, and measured H4058 (8799) the threshold H5592 of the gate H8179, [which was] one H259 reed H7070 broad H7341; and the other H259 threshold H5592 [of the gate, which was] one H259 reed H7070 broad H7341.
[7] And [every] little chamber H8372 [was] one H259 reed H7070 long H753, and one H259 reed H7070 broad H7341; and between the little chambers H8372 [were] five H2568 cubits H520; and the threshold H5592 of the gate H8179 by H681 the porch H197 of the gate H8179 within H1004 [was] one H259 reed H7070.
[8] He measured H4058 (8799) also the porch H197 of the gate H8179 within H1004, one H259 reed H7070.
[9] Then measured H4058 (8799) he the porch H197 of the gate H8179, eight H8083 cubits H520; and the posts H352 thereof, two H8147 cubits H520; and the porch H197 of the gate H8179 [was] inward H1004.
[10] And the little chambers H8372 of the gate H8179 eastward H1870 H6921 [were] three H7969 on this side H6311, and three H7969 on that side H6311; they three H7969 [were] of one H259 measure H4060: and the posts H352 had one H259 measure H4060 on this side and on that side.
[11] And he measured H4058 (8799) the breadth H7341 of the entry H6607 of the gate H8179, ten H6235 cubits H520; [and] the length H753 of the gate H8179, thirteen H7969 H6240 cubits H520.
[12] The space H1366 also before H6440 the little chambers H8372 [was] one H259 cubit H520 [on this side], and the space H1366 [was] one cubit H520 on that side: and the little chambers H8372 [were] six H8337 cubits H520 on this side, and six H8337 cubits H520 on that side.
[13] He measured H4058 (8799) then the gate H8179 from the roof H1406 of [one] little chamber H8372 to the roof H1406 of another: the breadth H7341 [was] five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520, door H6607 against door H6607.
[14] He made H6213 (8799) also posts H352 of threescore H8346 cubits H520, even unto the post H352 of the court H2691 round about H5439 the gate H8179.
[15] And from the face H6440 of the gate H8179 of the entrance H2978 unto the face H6440 of the porch H197 of the inner H6442 gate H8179 [were] fifty H2572 cubits H520.
[16] And [there were] narrow H331 (8801) windows H2474 to the little chambers H8372, and to their posts H352 within H6441 the gate H8179 round about H5439, and likewise to the arches H361: and windows H2474 [were] round about H5439 inward H6441: and upon [each] post H352 [were] palm trees H8561.
[17] Then brought H935 (8686) he me into the outward H2435 court H2691, and, lo, [there were] chambers H3957, and a pavement H7531 made H6213 (8803) for the court H2691 round about H5439: thirty H7970 chambers H3957 [were] upon the pavement H7531.
[18] And the pavement H7531 by the side H3802 of the gates H8179 over against H5980 the length H753 of the gates H8179 [was] the lower H8481 pavement H7531.
[19] Then he measured H4058 (8799) the breadth H7341 from the forefront H6440 of the lower H8481 gate H8179 unto the forefront H6440 of the inner H6442 court H2691 without H2351, an hundred H3967 cubits H520 eastward H6921 and northward H6828.
[20] And the gate H8179 of the outward H2435 court H2691 that looked H6440 toward H1870 the north H6828, he measured H4058 (8804) the length H753 thereof, and the breadth H7341 thereof.
[21] And the little chambers H8372 thereof [were] three H7969 on this side and three H7969 on that side; and the posts H352 thereof and the arches H361 thereof were after the measure H4060 of the first H7223 gate H8179: the length H753 thereof [was] fifty H2572 cubits H520, and the breadth H7341 five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520.
[22] And their windows H2474, and their arches H361, and their palm trees H8561, [were] after the measure H4060 of the gate H8179 that looketh H6440 toward H1870 the east H6921; and they went up H5927 (8799) unto it by seven H7651 steps H4609; and the arches H361 thereof [were] before H6440 them.
[23] And the gate H8179 of the inner H6442 court H2691 [was] over against the gate H8179 toward the north H6828, and toward the east H6921; and he measured H4058 (8799) from gate H8179 to gate H8179 an hundred H3967 cubits H520.
[24] After that he brought H3212 (8686) me toward H1870 the south H1864, and behold a gate H8179 toward H1870 the south H1864: and he measured H4058 (8804) the posts H352 thereof and the arches H361 thereof according to these measures H4060.
[25] And [there were] windows H2474 in it and in the arches H361 thereof round about H5439, like those windows H2474: the length H753 [was] fifty H2572 cubits H520, and the breadth H7341 five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520.
[26] And [there were] seven H7651 steps H4609 to go up H5930 to it, and the arches H361 thereof [were] before H6440 them: and it had palm trees H8561, one H259 on this side, and another H259 on that side, upon the posts H352 thereof.
[27] And [there was] a gate H8179 in the inner H6442 court H2691 toward H1870 the south H1864: and he measured H4058 (8799) from gate H8179 to gate H8179 toward H1870 the south H1864 an hundred H3967 cubits H520.
[28] And he brought H935 (8686) me to the inner H6442 court H2691 by the south H1864 gate H8179: and he measured H4058 (8799) the south H1864 gate H8179 according to these measures H4060;
[29] And the little chambers H8372 thereof, and the posts H352 thereof, and the arches H361 thereof, according to these measures H4060: and [there were] windows H2474 in it and in the arches H361 thereof round about H5439: [it was] fifty H2572 cubits H520 long H753, and five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520 broad H7341.
[30] And the arches H361 round about H5439 [were] five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520 long H753, and five H2568 cubits H520 broad H7341.
[31] And the arches H361 thereof [were] toward the utter H2435 court H2691; and palm trees H8561 [were] upon the posts H352 thereof: and the going up H4608 to it [had] eight H8083 steps H4609.
[32] And he brought H935 (8686) me into the inner H6442 court H2691 toward H1870 the east H6921: and he measured H4058 (8799) the gate H8179 according to these measures H4060.
[33] And the little chambers H8372 thereof, and the posts H352 thereof, and the arches H361 thereof, [were] according to these measures H4060: and [there were] windows H2474 therein and in the arches H361 thereof round about H5439: [it was] fifty H2572 cubits H520 long H753, and five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520 broad H7341.
[34] And the arches H361 thereof [were] toward the outward H2435 court H2691; and palm trees H8561 [were] upon the posts H352 thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up H4608 to it [had] eight H8083 steps H4609.
[35] And he brought H935 (8686) me to the north H6828 gate H8179, and measured H4058 (8804) [it] according to these measures H4060;
[36] The little chambers H8372 thereof, the posts H352 thereof, and the arches H361 thereof, and the windows H2474 to it round about H5439: the length H753 [was] fifty H2572 cubits H520, and the breadth H7341 five H2568 and twenty H6242 cubits H520.
[37] And the posts H352 thereof [were] toward the utter H2435 court H2691; and palm trees H8561 [were] upon the posts H352 thereof, on this side, and on that side: and the going up H4608 to it [had] eight H8083 steps H4609.
[38] And the chambers H3957 and the entries H6607 thereof [were] by the posts H352 of the gates H8179, where they washed H1740 (8686) the burnt offering H5930.
[39] And in the porch H197 of the gate H8179 [were] two H8147 tables H7979 on this side, and two tables H7979 on that side, to slay H7819 (8800) thereon the burnt offering H5930 and the sin offering H2403 and the trespass offering H817.
[40] And at the side H3802 without H2351, as one goeth up H5927 (8802) to the entry H6607 of the north H6828 gate H8179, [were] two H8147 tables H7979; and on the other H312 side H3802, which [was] at the porch H197 of the gate H8179, [were] two H8147 tables H7979.
[41] Four H702 tables H7979 [were] on this side, and four H702 tables H7979 on that side, by the side H3802 of the gate H8179; eight H8083 tables H7979, whereupon they slew H7819 (8799) [their sacrifices].
[42] And the four H702 tables H7979 [were] of hewn H1496 stone H68 for the burnt offering H5930, of a cubit H520 and an half H2677 long H753, and a cubit H520 and an half H2677 broad H7341, and one H259 cubit H520 high H1363: whereupon also they laid H3240 (8686) the instruments H3627 wherewith they slew H7819 (8799) the burnt offering H5930 and the sacrifice H2077.
[43] And within H1004 [were] hooks H8240, an H259 hand H2948 broad, fastened H3559 (8716) round about H5439: and upon the tables H7979 [was] the flesh H1320 of the offering H7133.
[44] And without H2351 the inner H6442 gate H8179 [were] the chambers H3957 of the singers H7891 (8802) in the inner H6442 court H2691, which [was] at the side H3802 of the north H6828 gate H8179; and their prospect H6440 [was] toward H1870 the south H1864: one H259 at the side H3802 of the east H6921 gate H8179 [having] the prospect H6440 toward H1870 the north H6828.
[45] And he said H1696 (8762) unto me, This H2090 chamber H3957, whose prospect H6440 [is] toward H1870 the south H1864, [is] for the priests H3548, the keepers H8104 (8802) of the charge H4931 of the house H1004.
[46] And the chamber H3957 whose prospect H6440 [is] toward H1870 the north H6828 [is] for the priests H3548, the keepers H8104 (8802) of the charge H4931 of the altar H4196: these [are] the sons H1121 of Zadok H6659 among the sons H1121 of Levi H3878, which come near H7131 to the LORD H3068 to minister H8334 (8763) unto him.
[47] So he measured H4058 (8799) the court H2691, an hundred H3967 cubits H520 long H753, and an hundred H3967 cubits H520 broad H7341, foursquare H7251 (8794); and the altar H4196 [that was] before H6440 the house H1004.
[48] And he brought H935 (8686) me to the porch H197 of the house H1004, and measured H4058 (8799) [each] post H352 of the porch H197, five H2568 cubits H520 on this side, and five H2568 cubits H520 on that side: and the breadth H7341 of the gate H8179 [was] three H7969 cubits H520 on this side, and three H7969 cubits H520 on that side.
[49] The length H753 of the porch H197 [was] twenty H6242 cubits H520, and the breadth H7341 eleven H6249 H6240 cubits H520; and [he brought me] by the steps H4609 whereby they went up H5927 (8799) to it: and [there were] pillars H5982 by the posts H352, one H259 on this side, and another H259 on that side.
Young’s Literal Translation
Ezekiel 40 (YLT)
[1] In the twenty and fifth year of our removal, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in this self-same day hath a hand of Jehovah been upon me, and He bringeth me in thither;
[2] in visions of God He hath brought me in unto the land of Israel, and causeth me to rest on a very high mountain, and upon it is as the frame of a city on the south.
[3] And He bringeth me in thither, and lo, a man, his appearance as the appearance of brass, and a thread of flax in his hand, and a measuring-reed, and he is standing at the gate,
[4] and the man speaketh unto me: ‘Son of man, see with thine eyes, And with thine ears hear, And set thy heart to all that I am shewing thee, For, in order to shew it thee, Thou hast been brought in hither, Declare all that thou art seeing to the house of Israel.’
[5] And lo, a wall on the outside of the house all round about, and in the hand of the man a measuring-reed, six cubits by a cubit and a handbreadth, and he measureth the breadth of the building one reed, and the height one reed.
[6] And he cometh in unto the gate whose front is eastward, and he goeth up by its steps, and he measureth the threshold of the gate one reed broad, even the one threshold one reed broad,
[7] and the little chamber one reed long and one reed broad, and between the little chambers five cubits, and the threshold of the gate, from the side of the porch of the gate from within, one reed.
[8] And he measureth the porch of the gate from within one reed,
[9] and he measureth the porch of the gate eight cubits, and its posts two cubits, and the porch of the gates from within,
[10] and the little chambers of the gate eastward, three on this side, and three on that side; one measure is to them three, and one measure is to the posts, on this side and on that side.
[11] And he measureth the breadth of the opening of the gate ten cubits, the length of the gate thirteen cubits;
[12] and a border before the little chambers, one cubit, and one cubit is the border on this side, and the little chamber is six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.
[13] And he measureth the gate from the roof of the one little chamber to the roof of another; the breadth twenty and five cubits, opening over-against opening.
[14] And he maketh the posts of sixty cubits, even unto the post of the court, the gate all round about;
[15] and by the front of the gate of the entrance, by the front of the porch of the inner gate, fifty cubits;
[16] and narrow windows are unto the little chambers, and unto their posts at the inside of the gate all round about-and so to the arches-and windows all round about are at the inside, and at the post are palm-trees.
[17] And he bringeth me in unto the outer court, and lo, chambers and a pavement made for the court all round about-thirty chambers on the pavement-
[18] and the pavement unto the side of the gates over-against the length of the gates is the lower pavement;
[19] and he measureth the breadth from before the lower gate, to the front of the inner court, on the outside, a hundred cubits, eastward and northward.
[20] As to the gate of the outer court whose front is northward, he hath measured its length and its breadth;
[21] and its little chambers, three on this side, and three on that side, and its posts and its arches have been according to the measure of the first gate, fifty cubits its length, and the breadth five and twenty by the cubit;
[22] and its windows, and its arches, and its palm-trees are according to the measure of the gate whose face is eastward, and by seven steps they go up on it, and its arches are before them.
[23] And the gate of the inner court is over-against the gate at the north and at the east; and he measureth from gate unto gate, a hundred cubits.
[24] And he causeth me to go southward, and lo, a gate southward, and he hath measured its posts and its arches according to these measures;
[25] and windows are to it and to its arches all round about, like these windows, fifty cubits the length, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;
[26] and seven steps are its ascent, and its arches are before them, and palm-trees are to it, one on this side, and one on that side, at its posts;
[27] and the gate of the inner court is southward, and he measureth from gate unto gate southward, a hundred cubits.
[28] And he bringeth me in unto the inner court by the south gate, and he measureth the south gate according to these measures;
[29] and its little chambers, and its posts, and its arches are according to these measures, and windows are to it and to its arches all round about; fifty cubits the length, and the breadth twenty and five cubits.
[30] As to the arches all round about, the length is five and twenty cubits, and the breadth five cubits;
[31] and its arches are unto the outer court, and palm-trees are unto its posts, and eight steps are its ascent.
[32] And he bringeth me in unto the inner court eastward, and he measureth the gate according to these measures;
[33] and its little chambers, and its posts, and its arches are according to these measures: and windows are to it and to its arches all round about, the length fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;
[34] and its arches are toward the outer court, and palm-trees are toward its posts, on this side and on that side, and eight steps are its ascent.
[35] And he bringeth me in unto the north gate, and hath measured according to these measures;
[36] its little chambers, its posts, and its arches; and windows are to it all round about: the length fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;
[37] and its posts are to the outer court, and palm-trees are unto its posts, on this side and on that side, and eight steps are its ascent.
[38] And the chamber and its opening is by the posts of the gates, there they purge the burnt-offering.
[39] And in the porch of the gate are two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slaughter on them the burnt-offering, and the sin-offering, and the guilt-offering;
[40] and at the side without, at the going up to the opening of the north gate, are two tables; and at the other side that is at the porch of the gate, are two tables;
[41] four tables are on this side, and four tables on that side, at the side of the gate, eight tables on which they slaughter.
[42] And the four tables for burnt-offering are of hewn stone: the length one cubit and a half, and the breadth one cubit and a half, and the height one cubit: on them they place the instruments with which they slaughter the burnt-offering and the sacrifice.
[43] And the boundaries are one handbreadth, prepared within all round about: and on the tables is the flesh of the offering.
[44] And on the outside of the inner gate are chambers of the singers, in the inner court, that are at the side of the north gate, and their fronts are southward, one at the side of the east gate hath the front northward.
[45] And he speaketh unto me: ‘This chamber, whose front is southward, is for priests keeping charge of the house;
[46] and the chamber, whose front is northward, is for priests keeping charge of the altar: they are sons of Zadok, who are drawing near of the sons of Levi unto Jehovah, to serve Him.’
[47] And he measureth the court: the length a hundred cubits, and the breadth a hundred cubits, square, and the altar is before the house.
[48] And he bringeth me in unto the porch of the house, and he measureth the post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side, and the breadth of the gate, three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side;
[49] the length of the porch twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits; and by the steps whereby they go up unto it: and pillars are at the posts, one on this side, and one on that side.
