‘If to the king it be good, there goeth forth a royal word from before him, and it is written with the laws of Persia and Media, and doth not pass away, that Vashti doth not come in before the king Ahasuerus, and her royalty doth the king give to her companion who is better than she;

Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after her purification for twelve months (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet fragrances and with preparations for beautifying women).

And in the drawing nigh of the turn of each young woman to come in unto the king Ahasuerus, at the end of there being to her-according to the law of the women-twelve months, for so they fulfil the days of their purifications; six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with spices, and with the purifications of women,

The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.

And the king H4428 loved H157 (QalImpf) Esther H635 above all the women, H802 and she obtained H5375 (QalImpf) grace H2580 and favour H2617 in his sight H6440 more than all the virgins; H1330 so that he set H7760 (QalImpf) the royal H4438 crown H3804 upon her head, H7218 and made her queen H4427 (HiphImpf) instead of Vashti. and the king loveth Esther above all the women, and she receiveth grace and kindness before him above all the virgins, and he setteth a royal crown on her head, and causeth her to reign instead of Vashti,

After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.

Letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to plunder their possessions.

and letters to be sent by the hand of the runners unto all provinces of the king, to cut off, to slay, and to destroy all the Jews, from young even unto old, infant and women, on one day, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month-it is the month of Adar-and their spoil to seize,

“All the king’s servants and the people of the king’s provinces know that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”

‘All servants of the king, and people of the provinces of the king, do know that any man and woman, who cometh in unto the king, unto the inner court, who is not called-one law of his is to put them to death, apart from him to whom the king holdeth out the golden sceptre, then he hath lived; and I-I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.’

Then Mordecai asked them to return this answer to Esther: “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.

and Mordecai speaketh to send back unto Esther: ‘Do not think in thy soul to be delivered in the house of the king, more than all the Jews,

Then Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he didn’t stand up nor move for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.

And Haman goeth forth on that day rejoicing and glad in heart, and at Haman’s seeing Mordecai in the gate of the king, and he hath not risen nor moved for him, then is Haman full of fury against Mordecai.

So Haman came in. The king said to him, “What shall be done to the man whom the king delights to honor?” Now Haman said in his heart, “Who would the king delight to honor more than myself?”

And Haman cometh in, and the king saith to him, ‘What-to do with the man in whose honour the king hath delighted?’ And Haman saith in his heart, ‘To whom doth the king delight to do honour more than myself?’

Esther said, “An adversary and an enemy, even this wicked Haman!” Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

And Esther saith, ‘The man-adversary and enemy-is this wicked Haman;’ and Haman hath been afraid at the presence of the king and of the queen.

In every province and in every city, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had gladness, joy, a feast and a holiday. Many from among the peoples of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews had fallen on them.

and in every province and province, and in every city and city, the place where the word of the king, even his law, is coming, gladness and joy are to the Jews, a banquet, and a good day; and many of the peoples of the land are becoming Jews, for a fear of the Jews hath fallen upon them.

who long for death, but it doesn’t come; and dig for it more than for hidden treasures,

Who are waiting for death, and it is not, And they seek it above hid treasures.

‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? Shall a man be more pure than his Maker?

‘Is mortal man than God more righteous? Than his Maker is a man cleaner?

Between morning and evening they are destroyed. They perish forever without any regarding it.

My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.

My days swifter than a weaving machine, And they are consumed without hope.

so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones.

And my soul chooseth strangling, Death rather than my bones.

I loathe my life. I don’t want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

I have wasted away-not to the age do I live. Cease from me, for my days are vanity.

“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away. They see no good.

My days have been swifter than a runner, They have fled, they have not seen good,

They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol.° What can you know?

Job 11:8 Sheol is the place of the dead.

Heights of the heavens!-what dost thou? Deeper than Sheol!-what knowest thou?

Its measure is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

Longer than earth is its measure, And broader than the sea.

Surely then you will lift up your face without spot. Yes, you will be steadfast, and will not fear,

For then thou liftest up thy face from blemish, And thou hast been firm, and fearest not.

Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.

And above the noon doth age rise, Thou fliest-as the morning thou art.

“Be silent! Leave me alone, that I may speak. Let come on me what will.

Hold your peace, H2790 (HiphImpv) let me alone, that I may speak, H1696 (PielImpf) and let come H5674 (QalImpf) on me what [will].

Keep silent from me, and I speak, And pass over me doth what?

With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than your father.

With us [are] both the grayheaded H7867 (QalActPtc) and very aged H3453 men, much H3524 elder H3117 than thy father. H1

Both the gray-headed And the very aged are among us- Greater than thy father in days.

Are the consolations of God too small for you, even the word that is gentle toward you?

[Are] the consolations H8575 of God H410 small H4592 with thee? is there any secret H328 thing H1697 with thee?

Too few for thee are the comforts of God? And a gentle word is with thee,

My eye also is dim by reason of sorrow. All my members are as a shadow.

And dim from sorrow is mine eye, And my members as a shadow all of them.

His roots will be dried up beneath. His branch will be cut off above.

From beneath his roots are dried up, And from above cut off is his crop.

Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?

Because of thy reverence Doth He reason with thee? He entereth with thee into judgment:

I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

Neither have I gone back H4185 (HiphImpf) from the commandment H4687 of his lips; H8193 I have esteemed H6845 (QalPerf) the words H561 of his mouth H6310 more than my necessary H2706 [food].

The command of His lips, and I depart not. Above my allotted portion I have laid up The sayings of His mouth.

To whom have you uttered words? Whose spirit came out of you?

To whom hast thou uttered H5046 (HiphPerf) words? H4405 and whose spirit H5397 came H3318 (QalPerf) from thee?

With whom hast thou declared words? And whose breath came forth from thee?

I hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go. My heart will not reproach me so long as I live.

“But now those who are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I considered unworthy to put with my sheep dogs.

But now [they that are] younger H6810 H3117 than I have me in derision, H7832 (QalPerf) whose fathers H1 I would have disdained H3988 (QalPerf) to have set H7896 (QalInf) with the dogs H3611 of my flock. H6629

And now, laughed at me, Have the younger in days than I, Whose fathers I have loathed to set With the dogs of my flock.

For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.

For a dread unto me is calamity from God, And because of His excellency I am not able.

this also would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges, for I would have denied the God who is above.

It also is a judicial iniquity, For I had lied to God above.

Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.

Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were older than he.

And Elihu hath waited earnestly beside Job with words, for they are older than he in days.

“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.

Lo, in this thou hast not been righteous, I answer thee, that greater is God than man.

His flesh will be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.

Fresher is his flesh than a child’s, He returneth to the days of his youth.

that the godless man may not reign, that there be no one to ensnare the people.

From the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;

“Do you think this to be your right, or do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s,’

Thinkest H2803 (QalPerf) thou this to be right, H4941 [that] thou saidst, H559 (QalPerf) My righteousness H6664 [is] more than God’s? H410

This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said- ‘My righteousness is more than God’s?’

that you ask, ‘What advantage will it be to you? What profit will I have, more than if I had sinned?’

For thou saidst, H559 (QalImpf) What advantage H5532 (QalImpf) will it be unto thee? [and], What profit H3276 (HiphImpf) shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin? H2403

For thou sayest, ‘What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?’

Look to the skies, and see. See the skies, which are higher than you.

Behold attentively the heavens-and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

“By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out. They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

By reason of the multitude H7230 of oppressions H6217 they make [the oppressed] to cry: H2199 (HiphImpf) they cry out H7768 (PielImpf) by reason of the arm H2220 of the mighty. H7227

Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.
