The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

And the king H4428 of Assyria H804 sent H7971 (QalImpf) Tartan H8661 and Rabsaris H7249 and Rabshakeh H7262 from Lachish H3923 to king H4428 Hezekiah H2396 with a great H3515 host H2426 against Jerusalem. And the king of Asshur sendeth Tartan, and the chief of the eunuchs, and the chief of the butlers, from Lachish, unto king Hezekiah, with a heavy force, to Jerusalem, and they go up and come in to Jerusalem, and they go up, and come in and stand by the conduit of the upper pool that is in the highway of the fuller’s field.

Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

‘Now, lo, thou hast trusted for thee on the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; which a man leaneth on, and it hath gone into his hand, and pierced it!-so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all those trusting on him.

until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “Yahweh will deliver us.”

Until I come H935 (QalInf) and take you away H3947 (QalPerf) to a land H776 like your own land, H776 a land H776 of corn H1715 and wine, H8492 a land H776 of bread H3899 and vineyards, H3754 a land H776 of oil H3323 olive H2132 and of honey, H1706 that ye may live, H2421 (QalImpv) and not die: H4191 (QalImpf) and hearken H8085 (QalImpf) not unto Hezekiah, H2396 when he persuadeth H5496 (HiphImpf) you, saying, H559 (QalInf) The Lord H3068 will deliver H5337 (HiphImpf) us.

till my coming in, and I have taken you unto a land like your own land, a land of corn and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of oil olive, and honey, and live, and die not; and do not hearken unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, Jehovah doth deliver us.

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him Rabshakeh’s words.

Then came H935 (QalImpf) Eliakim H471 the son H1121 of Hilkiah, H2518 which [was] over the household, H1004 and Shebna H7644 the scribe, H5608 (QalActPtc) and Joah H3098 the son H1121 of Asaph H623 the recorder, H2142 (HiphPtc) to Hezekiah H2396 with [their] clothes H899 rent, H7167 (QalPasPtc) and told H5046 (HiphImpf) him the words H1697 of Rabshakeh. And Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who is over the house, cometh in, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the remembrancer, unto Hezekiah, with rent garments, and they declare to him the words of the chief of the butlers.

When King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into Yahweh’s house.

And it came to pass, when king H4428 Hezekiah H2396 heard H8085 (QalInf) [it], that he rent H7167 (QalImpf) his clothes, H899 and covered H3680 (HithImpf) himself with sackcloth, H8242 and went H935 (QalImpf) into the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068

And it cometh to pass, at king Hezekiah’s hearing, that he rendeth his garments, and covereth himself with sackcloth, and entereth the house of Jehovah,

They said to him, “Hezekiah says, ‘Today is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them.

And they said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) Hezekiah, H2396 This day H3117 [is] a day H3117 of trouble, H6869 and of rebuke, H8433 and blasphemy: H5007 for the children H1121 are come H935 (QalPerf) to the birth, H4866 and [there is] not strength H3581 to bring forth. and they say unto him, ‘Thus said Hezekiah-A day of distress, and rebuke, and despising is this day; for come have sons unto the birth, and power there is not to bring forth.

So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

So the servants H5650 of king H4428 Hezekiah H2396 came H935 (QalImpf) to Isaiah. H3470

And the servants of king Hezekiah come in unto Isaiah,

By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

By the hand of thy messengers Thou hast reproached the Lord, and sayest: In the multitude of my chariots I have come up to a high place of mountains- The sides of Lebanon, And I cut down the height of its cedars, The choice of its firs, And I enter the lodging of its extremity, The forest of its Carmel.

Haven’t you heard how I have done it long ago, and formed it of ancient times? Now I have brought it to pass, that it should be yours to lay waste fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

Hast thou not heard H8085 (QalPerf) long ago H7350 [how] I have done H6213 (QalPerf) it, [and] of ancient H6924 times H3117 that I have formed H3335 (QalPerf) it? now have I brought H935 (HiphPerf) it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste H7582 (HiphInf) fenced H1219 (QalPasPtc) cities H5892 [into] ruinous H5327 (NiphPtc) heaps. Hast thou not heard from afar, it I made, From days of old that I formed it? Now I have brought it in, And it becometh a desolation, Ruinous heaps are fenced cities,

But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.

But I know H3045 (QalPerf) thy abode, H3427 (QalInf) and thy going out, H3318 (QalInf) and thy coming in, H935 (QalInf) and thy rage H7264 (HithInf) against me.

And thy sitting down, and thy going out, And thy coming in, I have known, And thine anger towards Me;

Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.’

Because thy rage H7264 (HithInf) against me and thy tumult H7600 is come up H5927 (QalPerf) into mine ears, H241 therefore I will put H7760 (QalPerf) my hook H2397 in thy nose, H639 and my bridle H4964 in thy lips, H8193 and I will turn thee back H7725 (HiphPerf) by the way H1870 by which thou camest. Because of thine anger towards Me, And thy noise-it came up into Mine ears, I have put My hook in thy nose, And My bridle in thy lips, And have caused thee to turn back, In the way in which thou camest.

“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 concerning the king H4428 of Assyria, H804 He shall not come H935 (QalImpf) into this city, H5892 nor shoot H3384 (HiphImpf) an arrow H2671 there, nor come before H6923 (PielImpf) it with shield, H4043 nor cast H8210 (QalImpf) a bank H5550 against it.

Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Concerning the king of Asshur: He doth not come in unto this city, Nor doth he shoot there an arrow, Nor doth he come before it with shield. Nor doth he pour out against it a mount.

He will return the same way that he came, and he will not come to this city,’ says Yahweh.

By the way H1870 that he came, H935 (QalImpf) by the same shall he return, H7725 (QalImpf) and shall not come H935 (QalImpf) into this city, H5892 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. H3068

In the way that he cometh in- In it he turneth back, And unto this city he doth not come in, The affirmation of Jehovah-

In those days Hezekiah was sick and dying. Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order; for you will die, and not live.’ ”

In those days H3117 was Hezekiah H2396 sick H2470 (QalPerf) unto death. In those days hath Hezekiah been sick unto death, and come unto him doth Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, and saith unto him, ‘Thus said Jehovah: Give a charge to thy house, for thou art dying, and dost not live.’

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? From where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, even from Babylon.”

Then came H935 (QalImpf) Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030 unto king H4428 Hezekiah, H2396 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, What said H559 (QalPerf) these men? And Isaiah the prophet cometh in unto king Hezekiah, and saith unto him, ‘What said these men? and whence come they unto thee?’ And Hezekiah saith, ‘From a land afar off they have come-from Babylon.’

‘Behold, the days come that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says Yahweh.

Behold, the days H3117 come, H935 (QalActPtc) that all that [is] in thine house, H1004 and that which thy fathers H1 have laid up in store H686 (QalPerf) unto this day, H3117 shall be carried H5375 (NiphPerf) into Babylon: H894 nothing H1697 shall be left, H3498 (NiphImpf) saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord. Lo, days are coming, and borne hath been all that is in thy house, and that thy father have treasured up till this day, to Babylon; there is not left a thing, said Jehovah;

Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

And the rest of the matters of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and bringeth in the waters to the city, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

therefore Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Behold, I will bring such evil on Jerusalem and Judah that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle.

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 Behold, I [am] bringing H935 (HiphPtc) [such] evil H7451 upon Jerusalem H3389 and Judah, H3063 that whosoever heareth H8085 (QalActPtc) of it, both H8147 his ears H241 shall tingle. H6750 (QalImpf)

therefore thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Lo, I am bringing in evil on Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever heareth of it, tingle do his two ears.

“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which is brought into Yahweh’s house, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”

And Shaphan the scribe cometh in unto the king, and bringeth the king back word, and saith, ‘Thy servants have poured out the silver that hath been found in the house, and give it into the hand of the doers of the work, the inspectors, in the house of Jehovah.’

“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Behold, I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) evil H7451 upon this place, H4725 and upon the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) thereof, [even] all the words H1697 of the book H5612 which the king H4428 of Judah H3063 hath read: H7121 (QalPerf)

Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am bringing in evil unto this place and on its inhabitants, all the words of the book that the king of Judah hath read,

‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’ ” ’ ” So they brought this message back to the king.

Behold therefore, I will gather H622 (QalActPtc) thee unto thy fathers, H1 and thou shalt be gathered H622 (NiphPerf) into thy grave H6913 in peace; H7965 and thine eyes H5869 shall not see H7200 (QalImpf) all the evil H7451 which I will bring H935 (HiphPtc) upon this place. H4725 And they brought H7725 the king H4428 word H1697 again. H7725 (HiphImpf)

therefore, lo, I am gathering thee unto thy fathers, and thou hast been gathered unto thy grave in peace, and thine eyes do not look on any of the evil that I am bringing in on this place;’ and they bring the king back word.

He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.

And he bringeth in all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defileth the high places where the priests have made perfume, from Geba unto Beer-Sheba, and hath broken down the high places of the gates that are at the opening of the gate of Joshua, head of the city, that is on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city;

He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance of Yahweh’s house, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

And he took away H7673 (HiphImpf) the horses H5483 that the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 had given H5414 (QalPerf) to the sun, H8121 at the entering in H935 (QalInf) of the house H1004 of the Lord, H3068 by the chamber H3957 of Nathanmelech H5419 the chamberlain, H5631 which [was] in the suburbs, H6503 and burned H8313 (QalPerf) the chariots H4818 of the sun H8121 with fire. And he causeth to cease the horses that the kings of Judah have given to the sun from the entering in of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech the eunuch, that is in the suburbs, and the chariots of the sun he hath burnt with fire.

Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Then he said, H559 (QalImpf) What title H6725 [is] that H1975 that I see? H7200 (QalActPtc) And the men H582 of the city H5892 told H559 (QalImpf) him, [It is] the sepulchre H6913 of the man H376 of God, H430 which came H935 (QalPerf) from Judah, H3063 and proclaimed H7121 (QalImpf) these things H1697 that thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 of Bethel. And he saith, ‘What is this sign that I see?’ and the men of the city say unto him, ‘The grave of the man of God who hath come from Judah, and proclaimeth these things that thou hast done concerning the altar of Beth-El.’

He said, “Let him be! Let no one move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Let him alone; H3240 (HiphImpv) let no man H376 move H5128 (HiphImpf) his bones. H6106 So they let his bones H6106 alone, H4422 (PielImpf) with the bones H6106 of the prophet H5030 that came out H935 (QalPerf) of Samaria. H8111

And he saith, ‘Let him alone, let no man touch his bones;’ and they let his bones escape, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

His servants carried him dead in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.

And his servants H5650 carried him in a chariot H7392 (HiphImpf) dead H4191 (QalPtc) from Megiddo, H4023 and brought H935 (HiphImpf) him to Jerusalem, H3389 and buried H6912 (QalImpf) him in his own sepulchre. H6900 And the people H5971 of the land H776 took H3947 (QalImpf) Jehoahaz H3059 the son H1121 of Josiah, H2977 and anointed H4886 (QalImpf) him, and made him king H4427 (HiphImpf) in his father’s H1 stead.

And his servants cause him to ride dying from Megiddo, and bring him in to Jerusalem, and bury him in his own grave, and the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and anoint him, and cause him to reign instead of his father.

Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim; but he took Jehoahaz away, and he came to Egypt and died there.

And Pharaohnechoh H6549 made Eliakim H471 the son H1121 of Josiah H2977 king H4427 (HiphImpf) in the room of Josiah H2977 his father, H1 and turned H5437 (HiphImpf) his name H8034 to Jehoiakim, H3079 and took H3947 Jehoahaz H3059 away: H3947 (QalPerf) and he came H935 (QalImpf) to Egypt, H4714 and died H4191 (QalImpf) there.

And Pharaoh-Nechoh causeth Eliakim son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turneth his name to Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz he hath taken away, and he cometh in to Egypt, and dieth there.

At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up to Jerusalem, and the city was besieged.

At that time H6256 the servants H5650 of Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 came up H5927 (QalPerf) against Jerusalem, H3389 and the city H5892 was besieged. H935 (QalImpf) H4692

At that time come up have servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Jerusalem, and the city goeth into siege,

Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to the city while his servants were besieging it,

And Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 came H935 (QalImpf) against the city, H5892 and his servants H5650 did besiege H6696 (QalActPtc) it.

and Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon cometh against the city, and his servants are laying siege to it,

All the men of might, even seven thousand, and the craftsmen and the smiths one thousand, all of them strong and fit for war, even them the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon.

And all the men H582 of might, H2428 [even] seven H7651 thousand, H505 and craftsmen H2796 and smiths H4525 a thousand, H505 all [that were] strong H1368 [and] apt H6213 (QalActPtc) for war, H4421 even them the king H4428 of Babylon H894 brought H935 (HiphImpf) captive H1473 to Babylon. H894

and all the men of valour seven thousand, and the artificers and the smiths a thousand, the whole are mighty men, warriors; and the king of Babylon bringeth them in a captivity to Babylon.

In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it around it.

And it came to pass in the ninth H8671 year H8141 of his reign, H4427 (QalInf) in the tenth H6224 month, H2320 in the tenth H6218 [day] of the month, H2320 [that] Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 came, H935 (QalPerf) he, and all his host, H2428 against Jerusalem, H3389 and pitched H2583 (QalImpf) against it; and they built H1129 (QalImpf) forts H1785 against it round about. H5439

And it cometh to pass, in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, come hath Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, he and all his force, against Jerusalem, and encampeth against it, and buildeth against it a fortification round about.

So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah.

And the city H5892 was besieged H935 (QalImpf) H4692 unto the eleventh H6249 H6240 year H8141 of king H4428 Zedekiah. H6667

And the city entereth into siege till the eleventh year of king Zedekiah,

They killed Zedekiah’s sons before his eyes, then put out Zedekiah’s eyes, bound him in fetters, and carried him to Babylon.

And the sons of Zedekiah they have slaughtered before his eyes, and the eyes of Zedekiah he hath blinded, and bindeth him with brazen fetters, and they bring him to Babylon.

Now in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem.

And in the fifth month, on the seventh of the month (it is the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), hath Nebuzaradan chief of the executioners, servant of the king of Babylon, come to Jerusalem,

Now when all the captains of the forces, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Kareah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

And all the heads of the forces hear-they and the men-that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah, and they come in unto Gedaliah, to Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah son of the Maachathite-they and their men;

But in the seventh month, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal offspring came, and ten men with him, and struck Gedaliah so that he died, with the Jews and the Chaldeans that were with him at Mizpah.

But it came to pass in the seventh H7637 month, H2320 that Ishmael H3458 the son H1121 of Nethaniah, H5418 the son H1121 of Elishama, H476 of the seed H2233 royal, H4410 came, H935 (QalPerf) and ten H6235 men H582 with him, and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) Gedaliah, H1436 that he died, H4191 (QalImpf) and the Jews H3064 and the Chaldees H3778 that were with him at Mizpah. And it cometh to pass, in the seventh month, come hath Ishmael son of Nathaniah, son of Elishama of the seed of the kingdom, and ten men with him, and they smite Gedaliah, and he dieth, and the Jews and the Chaldeans who have been with him in Mizpah.

All the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces arose and came to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

And afterwards hath Hezron gone in unto a daughter of Machir father of Gilead, and he hath taken her, and he is a son of sixty years, and she beareth to him Segub.

The families of scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, and the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.

And the families H4940 of the scribes H5608 (QalActPtc) which dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) (Qere) H3427 (QalPerf) at Jabez; H3258 the Tirathites, H8654 the Shimeathites, H8101 [and] Suchathites. H7756 These H1992 [are] the Kenites H7017 that came H935 (QalActPtc) of Hemath, H2574 the father H1 of the house H1004 of Rechab. H7394

and the families of the scribes the inhabitants of Jabez: Tirathites, Shimeathites, Suchathites. They are the Kenites, those coming of Hammath father of the house of Rechab.

Jabez called on the God^§ of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless me indeed, and enlarge my border! May your hand be with me, and may you keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” God granted him that which he requested.

And Jabez calleth to the God of Israel, saying, ‘If blessing Thou dost bless me, then Thou hast made great my border, and Thy hand hath been with me, and Thou hast kept me from evil-not to grieve me;’ and God bringeth in that which he asked.

these mentioned by name were princes in their families. Their fathers’ houses increased greatly.

And these who are written by name come in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smite their tents, and the habitations that have been found there, and devote them to destruction unto this day, and dwell in their stead, because pasture for their flock is there.

and he lived eastward even to the entrance of the wilderness from the river Euphrates, because their livestock were multiplied in the land of Gilead.

and stir up doth the God of Israel the spirit of Pul king of Asshur, and the spirit of Tilgath-Pilneser king of Asshur, and he removeth them-even the Reubenite, and the Gadite, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh-and bringeth them in to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and the river of Gozan unto this day.

Ephraim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.

He went in to his wife, and she conceived and bore a son, and he named him Beriah,° because there was trouble with his house.

Their brothers, in their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them,

And their brethren in their villages are to come in for seven days from time to time with these.

Certain of them were in charge of the vessels of service, for these were brought in by count, and these were taken out by count.

And some of them are over the vessels of service, for by number they bring them in, and by number they take them out.

Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.

and Saul saith unto the bearer of his weapons, ‘Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come-and have abused me.’ And the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he feareth exceedingly, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it;
