in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field from Ephron the Hittite as a burial place.

εν τω σπηλαιω τω διπλω τω απεναντι μαμβρη εν τη γη χανααν ο εκτησατο αβρααμ το σπηλαιον παρα εφρων του χετταιου εν κτησει μνημειου

Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him.

When the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning by the Egyptians.” Therefore its name was called Abel Mizraim, which is beyond the Jordan.

As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.

υμεις εβουλευσασθε κατ εμου εις πονηρα ο δε θεος εβουλευσατο περι εμου εις αγαθα οπως αν γενηθη ως σημερον ινα διατραφη λαος πολυς

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn’t know Joseph.

ανεστη δε βασιλευς ετερος επ αιγυπτον ος ουκ ηδει τον ιωσηφ

Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses.

και επεστησεν αυτοις επιστατας των εργων ινα κακωσωσιν αυτους εν τοις εργοις και ωκοδομησαν πολεις οχυρας τω φαραω την τε πιθωμ και ραμεσση και ων η εστιν ηλιου πολις

Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.

κατεβη δε η θυγατηρ φαραω λουσασθαι επι τον ποταμον και αι αβραι αυτης παρεπορευοντο παρα τον ποταμον και ιδουσα την θιβιν εν τω ελει αποστειλασα την αβραν ανειλατο αυτην

He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

ο δε ειπεν τις σε κατεστησεν αρχοντα και δικαστην εφ ημων μη ανελειν με συ θελεις ον τροπον ανειλες εχθες τον αιγυπτιον εφοβηθη δε μωυσης και ειπεν ει ουτως εμφανες γεγονεν το ρημα τουτο

You shall require from them the number of the bricks which they made before. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let’s go and sacrifice to our God.’

The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and were asked, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”

και εμαστιγωθησαν οι γραμματεις του γενους των υιων ισραηλ οι κατασταθεντες επ αυτους υπο των επιστατων του φαραω λεγοντες δια τι ου συνετελεσατε τας συνταξεις υμων της πλινθειας καθαπερ εχθες και τριτην ημεραν και το της σημερον

But Pharaoh said, “You are idle! You are idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let’s go and sacrifice to Yahweh.’

These are that Aaron and Moses to whom Yahweh said, “Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies.”

ουτος ααρων και μωυσης οις ειπεν αυτοις ο θεος εξαγαγειν τους υιους ισραηλ εκ γης αιγυπτου συν δυναμει αυτων

Yahweh said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Take your rod, and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt, over their rivers, over their streams, and over their pools, and over all their ponds of water, that they may become blood. There will be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood and in vessels of stone.’ ”

Yahweh said to Moses, “Tell Aaron, ‘Stretch out your hand with your rod over the rivers, over the streams, and over the pools, and cause frogs to come up on the land of Egypt.’ ”

Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt.

Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh, and Moses cried to Yahweh concerning the frogs which he had brought on Pharaoh.

And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 went out H3318 (QalImpf) from Pharaoh: H6547 and Moses H4872 cried H6817 (QalImpf) unto the Lord H3068 because of H1697 the frogs H6854 which he had brought H7760 (QalPerf) against Pharaoh. H6547

It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be boils and blisters breaking out on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt.”

και γενηθητω κονιορτος επι πασαν την γην αιγυπτου και εσται επι τους ανθρωπους και επι τα τετραποδα ελκη φλυκτιδες αναζεουσαι εν τε τοις ανθρωποις και εν τοις τετραποσιν και εν παση γη αιγυπτου

Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Stretch forth H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 toward heaven, H8064 that there may be hail H1259 in all the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 upon man, H120 and upon beast, H929 and upon every herb H6212 of the field, H7704 throughout the land H776 of Egypt. ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην εκτεινον την χειρα σου εις τον ουρανον και εσται χαλαζα επι πασαν γην αιγυπτου επι τε τους ανθρωπους και τα κτηνη και επι πασαν βοτανην την επι της γης

Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder and hail; and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt.

And Moses H4872 stretched forth H5186 (QalImpf) his rod H4294 toward heaven: H8064 and the Lord H3068 sent H5414 (QalPerf) thunder H6963 and hail, H1259 and the fire H784 ran along H1980 (QalImpf) upon the ground; H776 and the Lord H3068 rained H4305 (HiphImpf) hail H1259 upon the land H776 of Egypt. εξετεινεν δε μωυσης την χειρα εις τον ουρανον και κυριος εδωκεν φωνας και χαλαζαν και διετρεχεν το πυρ επι της γης και εβρεξεν κυριος χαλαζαν επι πασαν γην αιγυπτου

Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail has left.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Stretch out H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 over the land H776 of Egypt H4714 for the locusts, H697 that they may come up H5927 (QalImpf) upon the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 and eat H398 (QalImpf) every herb H6212 of the land, H776 [even] all that the hail H1259 hath left. Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

και επηρεν μωυσης την ραβδον εις τον ουρανον και κυριος επηγαγεν ανεμον νοτον επι την γην ολην την ημεραν εκεινην και ολην την νυκτα το πρωι εγενηθη και ο ανεμος ο νοτος ανελαβεν την ακριδα

The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, nor will there ever be again.

και ανηγαγεν αυτην επι πασαν γην αιγυπτου και κατεπαυσεν επι παντα τα ορια αιγυπτου πολλη σφοδρα προτερα αυτης ου γεγονεν τοιαυτη ακρις και μετα ταυτα ουκ εσται ουτως

Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Stretch out H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 toward heaven, H8064 that there may be darkness H2822 over the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 even darkness H2822 [which] may be felt. H4959 (HiphImpf)

Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.

εξετεινεν δε μωυσης την χειρα εις τον ουρανον και εγενετο σκοτος γνοφος θυελλα επι πασαν γην αιγυπτου τρεις ημερας

Don’t eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted with fire; with its head, its legs and its inner parts.

Eat H398 (QalImpf) not of it raw, H4995 nor sodden H1310 (PualPtc) H1311 at all with water, H4325 but roast H6748 [with] fire; H784 his head H7218 with his legs, H3767 and with the purtenance H7130 thereof.

ουκ εδεσθε απ αυτων ωμον ουδε ηψημενον εν υδατι αλλ η οπτα πυρι κεφαλην συν τοις ποσιν και τοις ενδοσθιοις

The blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.

And the blood H1818 shall be to you for a token H226 upon the houses H1004 where ye [are]: and when I see H7200 (QalPerf) the blood, H1818 I will pass H6452 (QalPerf) over you, and the plague H5063 shall not be upon you to destroy H4889 [you], when I smite H5221 (HiphInf) the land H776 of Egypt. και εσται το αιμα υμιν εν σημειω επι των οικιων εν αις υμεις εστε εκει και οψομαι το αιμα και σκεπασω υμας και ουκ εσται εν υμιν πληγη του εκτριβηναι οταν παιω εν γη αιγυπτω

For Yahweh will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two door posts, Yahweh will pass over the door, and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to strike you.

For the Lord H3068 will pass through H5674 (QalPerf) to smite H5062 (QalInf) the Egyptians; H4714 and when he seeth H7200 (QalPerf) the blood H1818 upon the lintel, H4947 and on the two H8147 side posts, H4201 the Lord H3068 will pass over H6452 (QalPerf) the door, H6607 and will not suffer H5414 (QalImpf) the destroyer H7843 (HiphPtc) to come H935 (QalInf) in unto your houses H1004 to smite H5062 (QalInf) [you].

και παρελευσεται κυριος παταξαι τους αιγυπτιους και οψεται το αιμα επι της φλιας και επ αμφοτερων των σταθμων και παρελευσεται κυριος την θυραν και ουκ αφησει τον ολεθρευοντα εισελθειν εις τας οικιας υμων παταξαι

that you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of Yahweh’s Passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he struck the Egyptians, and spared our houses.’ ” The people bowed their heads and worshiped.

και ερειτε αυτοις θυσια το πασχα τουτο κυριω ως εσκεπασεν τους οικους των υιων ισραηλ εν αιγυπτω ηνικα επαταξεν τους αιγυπτιους τους δε οικους ημων ερρυσατο και κυψας ο λαος προσεκυνησεν

The Egyptians were urgent with the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We are all dead men.”

και κατεβιαζοντο οι αιγυπτιοι τον λαον σπουδη εκβαλειν αυτους εκ της γης ειπαν γαρ οτι παντες ημεις αποθνησκομεν

When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, Yahweh killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of livestock. Therefore I sacrifice to Yahweh all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’

And it came to pass, when Pharaoh H6547 would hardly H7185 (HiphPerf) let us go, H7971 (PielInf) that the Lord H3068 slew H2026 (QalImpf) all the firstborn H1060 in the land H776 of Egypt, H4714 both the firstborn H1060 of man, H120 and the firstborn H1060 of beast: H929 therefore I sacrifice H2076 (QalActPtc) to the Lord H3068 all that openeth H6363 the matrix, H7358 being males; H2145 but all the firstborn H1060 of my children H1121 I redeem. ηνικα δε εσκληρυνεν φαραω εξαποστειλαι ημας απεκτεινεν παν πρωτοτοκον εν γη αιγυπτω απο πρωτοτοκων ανθρωπων εως πρωτοτοκων κτηνων δια τουτο εγω θυω τω κυριω παν διανοιγον μητραν τα αρσενικα και παν πρωτοτοκον των υιων μου λυτρωσομαι

and he took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt, with captains over all of them.

The Egyptians pursued them. All the horses and chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen, and his army overtook them encamping by the sea, beside Pihahiroth, before Baal Zephon.

και κατεδιωξαν οι αιγυπτιοι οπισω αυτων και ευροσαν αυτους παρεμβεβληκοτας παρα την θαλασσαν και πασα η ιππος και τα αρματα φαραω και οι ιππεις και η στρατια αυτου απεναντι της επαυλεως εξ εναντιας βεελσεπφων

Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. Then the children of Israel shall go into the middle of the sea on dry ground.

But lift thou up H7311 (HiphImpv) thy rod, H4294 and stretch out H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 over the sea, H3220 and divide H1234 (QalImpv) it: and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall go H935 (QalImpf) on dry H3004 [ground] through the midst H8432 of the sea. H3220

και συ επαρον τη ραβδω σου και εκτεινον την χειρα σου επι την θαλασσαν και ρηξον αυτην και εισελθατωσαν οι υιοι ισραηλ εις μεσον της θαλασσης κατα το ξηρον

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.

And Moses H4872 stretched out H5186 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 over the sea; H3220 and the Lord H3068 caused the sea H3220 to go H3212 (HiphImpf) [back] by a strong H5794 east H6921 wind H7307 all that night, H3915 and made H7760 (QalImpf) the sea H3220 dry H2724 [land], and the waters H4325 were divided. εξετεινεν δε μωυσης την χειρα επι την θαλασσαν και υπηγαγεν κυριος την θαλασσαν εν ανεμω νοτω βιαιω ολην την νυκτα και εποιησεν την θαλασσαν ξηραν και εσχισθη το υδωρ

Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come again on the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Stretch out H5186 (QalImpv) thine hand H3027 over the sea, H3220 that the waters H4325 may come again H7725 (QalImpf) upon the Egyptians, H4714 upon their chariots, H7393 and upon their horsemen. H6571

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην εκτεινον την χειρα σου επι την θαλασσαν και αποκαταστητω το υδωρ και επικαλυψατω τους αιγυπτιους επι τε τα αρματα και τους αναβατας

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

And Moses H4872 stretched forth H5186 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 over the sea, H3220 and the sea H3220 returned H7725 (QalImpf) to his strength H386 when the morning H1242 appeared; H6437 (QalInf) and the Egyptians H4714 fled H5127 (QalPtc) against H7125 (QalInf) it; and the Lord H3068 overthrew H5287 (PielImpf) the Egyptians H4714 in the midst H8432 of the sea. εξετεινεν δε μωυσης την χειρα επι την θαλασσαν και απεκατεστη το υδωρ προς ημεραν επι χωρας οι δε αιγυπτιοι εφυγον υπο το υδωρ και εξετιναξεν κυριος τους αιγυπτιους μεσον της θαλασσης

When they came to Marah, they couldn’t drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah.°

Exodus 15:23 Marah means bitter.

And when they came H935 (QalImpf) to Marah, H4785 they could H3201 (QalPerf) not drink H8354 (QalInf) of the waters H4325 of Marah, H4785 for they [were] bitter: H4751 therefore the name H8034 of it was called H7121 (QalPerf) Marah. H4785

ηλθον δε εις μερρα και ουκ ηδυναντο πιειν εκ μερρας πικρον γαρ ην δια τουτο επωνομασθη το ονομα του τοπου εκεινου πικρια

They came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees. They encamped there by the waters.

και ηλθοσαν εις αιλιμ και ησαν εκει δωδεκα πηγαι υδατων και εβδομηκοντα στελεχη φοινικων παρενεβαλον δε εκει παρα τα υδατα

The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

διεγογγυζεν πασα συναγωγη υιων ισραηλ επι μωυσην και ααρων

In the morning, you shall see Yahweh’s glory; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?”

και πρωι οψεσθε την δοξαν κυριου εν τω εισακουσαι τον γογγυσμον υμων επι τω θεω ημεις δε τι εσμεν οτι διαγογγυζετε καθ ημων

Moses said, “Now Yahweh will give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you, because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.”

και ειπεν μωυσης εν τω διδοναι κυριον υμιν εσπερας κρεα φαγειν και αρτους το πρωι εις πλησμονην δια το εισακουσαι κυριον τον γογγυσμον υμων ον υμεις διαγογγυζετε καθ ημων ημεις δε τι εσμεν ου γαρ καθ ημων ο γογγυσμος υμων εστιν αλλ η κατα του θεου

Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.”

ιδετε ο γαρ κυριος εδωκεν υμιν την ημεραν ταυτην τα σαββατα δια τουτο αυτος εδωκεν υμιν τη ημερα τη εκτη αρτους δυο ημερων καθησεσθε εκαστος εις τους οικους υμων μηδεις εκπορευεσθω εκ του τοπου αυτου τη ημερα τη εβδομη

All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, starting according to Yahweh’s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.

και απηρεν πασα συναγωγη υιων ισραηλ εκ της ερημου σιν κατα παρεμβολας αυτων δια ρηματος κυριου και παρενεβαλοσαν εν ραφιδιν ουκ ην δε υδωρ τω λαω πιειν

The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

εδιψησεν δε εκει ο λαος υδατι και εγογγυζεν εκει ο λαος προς μωυσην λεγοντες ινα τι τουτο ανεβιβασας ημας εξ αιγυπτου αποκτειναι ημας και τα τεκνα ημων και τα κτηνη τω διψει

He called the name of the place Massah,° and Meribah,° because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us, or not?”

Exodus 17:7a Massah means testing.
Exodus 17:7b Meribah means quarreling.

And he called H7121 (QalImpf) the name H8034 of the place H4725 Massah, H4532 and Meribah, H4809 because of the chiding H7379 of the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and because they tempted H5254 (PielInf) the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf) Is H3426 the Lord H3068 among H7130 us, or not?

και επωνομασεν το ονομα του τοπου εκεινου πειρασμος και λοιδορησις δια την λοιδοριαν των υιων ισραηλ και δια το πειραζειν κυριον λεγοντας ει εστιν κυριος εν ημιν η ου

He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.’ ”

For he said, H559 (QalImpf) Because the Lord H3050 hath sworn H3027 H3676 [that] the Lord H3068 [will have] war H4421 with Amalek H6002 from generation H1755 to generation. H1755

οτι εν χειρι κρυφαια πολεμει κυριος επι αμαληκ απο γενεων εις γενεας

Moses told his father-in-law all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how Yahweh delivered them.

And Moses H4872 told H5608 (PielImpf) his father in law H2859 (QalActPtc) all that the Lord H3068 had done H6213 (QalPerf) unto Pharaoh H6547 and to the Egyptians H4714 for Israel’s H3478 sake, H182 [and] all the travail H8513 that had come H4672 (QalPerf) upon them by the way, H1870 and [how] the Lord H3068 delivered H5337 (HiphImpf) them.

και διηγησατο μωυσης τω γαμβρω παντα οσα εποιησεν κυριος τω φαραω και τοις αιγυπτιοις ενεκεν του ισραηλ και παντα τον μοχθον τον γενομενον αυτοις εν τη οδω και οτι εξειλατο αυτους κυριος εκ χειρος φαραω και εκ χειρος των αιγυπτιων
