Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king sleeps with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be considered criminals.”

David slept with his fathers, and was buried in David’s city.

Solomon sat on David his father’s throne; and his kingdom was firmly established.

To Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are worthy of death. But I will not at this time put you to death, because you bore the Lord^§ Yahweh’s ark before David my father, and because you were afflicted in all in which my father was afflicted.”

The king said to him, “Do as he has said, and fall on him, and bury him, that you may take away the blood, which Joab shed without cause, from me and from my father’s house.

The king said moreover to Shimei, “You know in your heart all the wickedness that you did to David my father. Therefore Yahweh will return your wickedness on your own head.

Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

και ηγαπησεν σαλωμων τον κυριον πορευεσθαι εν τοις προσταγμασιν δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου πλην εν τοις υψηλοις εθυεν και εθυμια

Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

And Solomon H8010 said, H559 (QalImpf) Thou hast shewed H6213 (QalPerf) unto thy servant H5650 David H1732 my father H1 great H1419 mercy, H2617 according as he walked H1980 (QalPerf) before H6440 thee in truth, H571 and in righteousness, H6666 and in uprightness H3483 of heart H3824 with thee; and thou hast kept H8104 (QalImpf) for him this great H1419 kindness, H2617 that thou hast given H5414 (QalImpf) him a son H1121 to sit H3427 (QalActPtc) on his throne, H3678 as [it is] this day. και ειπεν σαλωμων συ εποιησας μετα του δουλου σου δαυιδ του πατρος μου ελεος μεγα καθως διηλθεν ενωπιον σου εν αληθεια και εν δικαιοσυνη και εν ευθυτητι καρδιας μετα σου και εφυλαξας αυτω το ελεος το μεγα τουτο δουναι τον υιον αυτου επι του θρονου αυτου ως η ημερα αυτη

Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

And if thou wilt walk H3212 (QalImpf) in my ways, H1870 to keep H8104 (QalInf) my statutes H2706 and my commandments, H4687 as thy father H1 David H1732 did walk, H1980 (QalPerf) then I will lengthen H748 (HiphPerf) thy days. H3117

και εαν πορευθης εν τη οδω μου φυλασσειν τας εντολας μου και τα προσταγματα μου ως επορευθη δαυιδ ο πατηρ σου και πληθυνω τας ημερας σου

Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father, and Hiram had always loved David.

“You know that David my father could not build a house for the name of Yahweh his God because of the wars which were around him on every side, until Yahweh put his enemies under the soles of his feet.

Thou knowest H3045 (QalPerf) how that David H1732 my father H1 could H3201 (QalPerf) not build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 unto the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 his God H430 for H6440 the wars H4421 which were about him on every side, H5437 (QalPerf) until the Lord H3068 put H5414 (QalInf) them under the soles H3709 of his feet. ^[5:17] συ οιδας δαυιδ τον πατερα μου οτι ουκ εδυνατο οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου μου απο προσωπου των πολεμων των κυκλωσαντων αυτον εως του δουναι κυριον αυτους υπο τα ιχνη των ποδων αυτου

Behold, I intend to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, as Yahweh spoke to David my father, saying, ‘Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place shall build the house for my name.’

And, behold, I purpose H559 (QalActPtc) to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 unto the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 my God, H430 as the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto David H1732 my father, H1 saying, H559 (QalInf) Thy son, H1121 whom I will set H5414 (QalImpf) upon thy throne H3678 in thy room, he shall build H1129 (QalImpf) an house H1004 unto my name. “Concerning this house which you are building, if you will walk in my statutes, and execute my ordinances, and keep all my commandments to walk in them, then I will establish my word with you, which I spoke to David your father.

[Concerning] this house H1004 which thou art in building, H1129 (QalActPtc) if thou wilt walk H3212 (QalImpf) in my statutes, H2708 and execute H6213 (QalImpf) my judgments, H4941 and keep H8104 (QalPerf) all my commandments H4687 to walk H3212 (QalInf) in them; then will I perform H6965 (HiphPerf) my word H1697 with thee, which I spake H1696 (PielPerf) unto David H1732 thy father: H1

He was the son of a widow of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in bronze; and he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill to work all works in bronze. He came to King Solomon and performed all his work.

He [was] a widow’s H802 H490 son H1121 of the tribe H4294 of Naphtali, H5321 and his father H1 [was] a man H376 of Tyre, H6876 a worker H2790 (QalActPtc) in brass: H5178 and he was filled H4390 (NiphImpf) with wisdom, H2451 and understanding, H8394 and cunning H1847 to work H6213 (QalInf) all works H4399 in brass. ^[7:2] υιον γυναικος χηρας και ουτος απο της φυλης νεφθαλι και ο πατηρ αυτου ανηρ τυριος τεκτων χαλκου και πεπληρωμενος της τεχνης και συνεσεως και επιγνωσεως του ποιειν παν εργον εν χαλκω και εισηχθη προς τον βασιλεα σαλωμων και εποιησεν παντα τα εργα

Thus all the work that King Solomon did in Yahweh’s house was finished. Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated—the silver, the gold, and the vessels—and put them in the treasuries of Yahweh’s house.

So was ended H7999 (QalImpf) all the work H4399 that king H4428 Solomon H8010 made H6213 (QalPerf) for the house H1004 of the Lord. ^[7:37] και ανεπληρωθη παν το εργον ο εποιησεν σαλωμων οικου κυριου και εισηνεγκεν σαλωμων τα αγια δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου και παντα τα αγια σαλωμων το αργυριον και το χρυσιον και τα σκευη εδωκεν εις τους θησαυρους οικου κυριου

Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel with all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of Yahweh’s covenant out of David’s city, which is Zion.

και εγενετο εν τω συντελεσαι σαλωμων του οικοδομησαι τον οικον κυριου και τον οικον εαυτου μετα εικοσι ετη τοτε εξεκκλησιασεν ο βασιλευς σαλωμων παντας τους πρεσβυτερους ισραηλ εν σιων του ανενεγκειν την κιβωτον διαθηκης κυριου εκ πολεως δαυιδ αυτη εστιν σιων

He said, “Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David your father, and has with his hand fulfilled it, saying,

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 which spake H1696 (PielPerf) with his mouth H6310 unto David H1732 my father, H1 and hath with his hand H3027 fulfilled H4390 (PielPerf) [it], saying, H559 (QalInf)

και ειπεν ευλογητος κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ σημερον ος ελαλησεν εν τω στοματι αυτου περι δαυιδ του πατρος μου και εν ταις χερσιν αυτου επληρωσεν λεγων

“Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

And it was in the heart H3824 of David H1732 my father H1 to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 for the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478

και εγενετο επι της καρδιας δαυιδ του πατρος μου οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου ισραηλ

But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto David H1732 my father, H1 Whereas H3282 H834 it was in thine heart H3824 to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 unto my name, H8034 thou didst well H2895 (HiphPerf) that it was in thine heart. H3824

και ειπεν κυριος προς δαυιδ τον πατερα μου ανθ ων ηλθεν επι την καρδιαν σου του οικοδομησαι οικον τω ονοματι μου καλως εποιησας οτι εγενηθη επι την καρδιαν σου

Yahweh has established his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

And the Lord H3068 hath performed H6965 (HiphImpf) his word H1697 that he spake, H1696 (PielPerf) and I am risen up H6965 (QalImpf) in the room of David H1732 my father, H1 and sit H3427 (QalImpf) on the throne H3678 of Israel, H3478 as the Lord H3068 promised, H1696 (PielPerf) and have built H1129 (QalImpf) an house H1004 for the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel. και ανεστησεν κυριος το ρημα αυτου ο ελαλησεν και ανεστην αντι δαυιδ του πατρος μου και εκαθισα επι του θρονου ισραηλ καθως ελαλησεν κυριος και ωκοδομησα τον οικον τω ονοματι κυριου θεου ισραηλ

There I have set a place for the ark, in which is Yahweh’s covenant, which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

και εθεμην εκει τοπον τη κιβωτω εν η εστιν εκει διαθηκη κυριου ην διεθετο κυριος μετα των πατερων ημων εν τω εξαγαγειν αυτον αυτους εκ γης αιγυπτου

who has kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is today.

α εφυλαξας τω δουλω σου δαυιδ τω πατρι μου και ελαλησας εν τω στοματι σου και εν χερσιν σου επληρωσας ως η ημερα αυτη

Now therefore, may Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’

Therefore now, Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 keep H8104 (QalImpv) with thy servant H5650 David H1732 my father H1 that thou promisedst H1696 (PielPerf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) There shall not fail H3772 (NiphImpf) thee a man H376 in my sight H6440 to sit H3427 (QalActPtc) on the throne H3678 of Israel; H3478 so H7535 that thy children H1121 take heed H8104 (QalImpf) to their way, H1870 that they walk H3212 (QalInf) before H6440 me as thou hast walked H1980 (QalPerf) before H6440 me.

και νυν κυριε ο θεος ισραηλ φυλαξον τω δουλω σου τω δαυιδ τω πατρι μου α ελαλησας αυτω λεγων ουκ εξαρθησεται σου ανηρ εκ προσωπου μου καθημενος επι θρονου ισραηλ πλην εαν φυλαξωνται τα τεκνα σου τας οδους αυτων του πορευεσθαι ενωπιον εμου καθως επορευθης ενωπιον εμου

“Now therefore, God of Israel, please let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David my father.

και συ εισακουση εκ του ουρανου και ιλεως εση ταις αμαρτιαις του λαου σου ισραηλ και αποστρεψεις αυτους εις την γην ην εδωκας τοις πατρασιν αυτων

that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.

οπως φοβωνται σε πασας τας ημερας ας αυτοι ζωσιν επι της γης ης εδωκας τοις πατρασιν ημων

if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who carried them captive, and pray to you toward their land which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen and the house which I have built for your name,

και επιστρεψωσιν προς σε εν ολη καρδια αυτων και εν ολη ψυχη αυτων εν τη γη εχθρων αυτων ου μετηγαγες αυτους και προσευξονται προς σε οδον γης αυτων ης εδωκας τοις πατρασιν αυτων της πολεως ης εξελεξω και του οικου ου ωκοδομηκα τω ονοματι σου

For you separated them from among all the peoples of the earth to be your inheritance, as you spoke by Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.”

As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, in integrity of heart and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances,

και συ εαν πορευθης ενωπιον εμου καθως επορευθη δαυιδ ο πατηρ σου εν οσιοτητι καρδιας και εν ευθυτητι και του ποιειν κατα παντα α ενετειλαμην αυτω και τα προσταγματα μου και τας εντολας μου φυλαξης

then I will establish the throne of your kingdom over Israel forever, as I promised to David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man on the throne of Israel.’

και αναστησω τον θρονον της βασιλειας σου επι ισραηλ εις τον αιωνα καθως ελαλησα τω δαυιδ πατρι σου λεγων ουκ εξαρθησεται σοι ανηρ ηγουμενος εν ισραηλ

and they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and embraced other gods, and worshiped them, and served them. Therefore Yahweh has brought all this evil on them.’ ”

When Solomon was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with Yahweh his God, as the heart of David his father was.

και εγενηθη εν καιρω γηρους σαλωμων και ουκ ην η καρδια αυτου τελεια μετα κυριου θεου αυτου καθως η καρδια δαυιδ του πατρος αυτου και εξεκλιναν αι γυναικες αι αλλοτριαι την καρδιαν αυτου οπισω θεων αυτων

Solomon did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and didn’t go fully after Yahweh, as David his father did.

And Solomon H8010 did H6213 (QalImpf) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the Lord, H3068 and went not fully H4390 (PielPerf) after H310 the Lord, H3068 as [did] David H1732 his father. H1

Nevertheless, I will not do it in your days, for David your father’s sake; but I will tear it out of your son’s hand.

Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt, when Hadad was still a little child.

και αδερ ηκουσεν εν αιγυπτω οτι κεκοιμηται δαυιδ μετα των πατερων αυτου και οτι τεθνηκεν ιωαβ ο αρχων της στρατιας και ειπεν αδερ προς φαραω εξαποστειλον με και αποστρεψω εις την γην μου

This was the reason why he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breach of his father David’s city.

because they have forsaken me, and have worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of Moab, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon. They have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my statutes and my ordinances, as David his father did.

Because that they have forsaken H5800 (QalPerf) me, and have worshipped H7812 (HithImpf) Ashtoreth H6253 the goddess H430 of the Zidonians, H6722 Chemosh H3645 the god H430 of the Moabites, H4124 and Milcom H4445 the god H430 of the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and have not walked H1980 (QalPerf) in my ways, H1870 to do H6213 (QalInf) [that which is] right H3477 in mine eyes, H5869 and [to keep] my statutes H2708 and my judgments, H4941 as [did] David H1732 his father. ανθ ων κατελιπεν με και εποιησεν τη ασταρτη βδελυγματι σιδωνιων και τω χαμως και τοις ειδωλοις μωαβ και τω βασιλει αυτων προσοχθισματι υιων αμμων και ουκ επορευθη εν ταις οδοις μου του ποιησαι το ευθες ενωπιον εμου ως δαυιδ ο πατηρ αυτου

Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in his father David’s city; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

“Your father made our yoke difficult. Now therefore make the hard service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
