“The bramble said to the trees, ‘If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’

And the bramble saith unto the trees, If in truth ye are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not-fire cometh out from the bramble, and devoureth the cedars of Lebanon.

that the violence done to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal might come, and that their blood might be laid on Abimelech their brother who killed them, and on the men of Shechem who strengthened his hands to kill his brothers.

That the cruelty H2555 [done] to the threescore and ten H7657 sons H1121 of Jerubbaal H3378 might come, H935 (QalInf) and their blood H1818 be laid H7760 (QalInf) upon Abimelech H40 their brother, H251 which slew H2026 (QalPerf) them; and upon the men H1167 of Shechem, H7927 which aided H2388 (PielPerf) H3027 him in the killing H2026 (QalInf) of his brethren. for the coming in of the violence to the seventy sons of Jerubbaal, and of their blood to place it on Abimelech their brother, who slew them, and on the masters of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slay his brethren.

Gaal the son of Ebed came with his brothers and went over to Shechem; and the men of Shechem put their trust in him.

And Gaal H1603 the son H1121 of Ebed H5651 came H935 (QalImpf) with his brethren, H251 and went over H5674 (QalImpf) to Shechem: H7927 and the men H1167 of Shechem H7927 put their confidence H982 (QalImpf) in him.

And Gaal son of Ebed cometh-also his brethren-and they pass over into Shechem, and the masters of Shechem trust in him,

They went out into the field, harvested their vineyards, trod the grapes, celebrated, and went into the house of their god and ate and drank, and cursed Abimelech.

and go out into the field, and gather their vineyards, and tread, and make praises, and go into the house of their god, and eat and drink, and revile Abimelech.

He sent messengers to Abimelech craftily, saying, “Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brothers have come to Shechem; and behold, they incite the city against you.

and he sendeth messengers unto Abimelech deceitfully, saying, ‘Lo, Gaal son of Ebed and his brethren are coming into Shechem, and lo, they are fortifying the city against thee;

Gaal spoke again and said, “Behold, people are coming down by the middle of the land, and one company comes by the way of the oak of Meonenim.”

And Gaal addeth yet to speak, and saith, ‘Lo, people are coming down from the high part of the land, and another detachment is coming by the way of the oak of Meonenim.’

When all the men of the tower of Shechem heard of it, they entered into the stronghold of the house of Elberith.

And all the masters of the tower of Shechem hear, and go in unto the high place of the house of the god Berith,

Abimelech came to the tower and fought against it, and came near to the door of the tower to burn it with fire.

And Abimelech cometh unto the tower, and fighteth against it, and draweth nigh unto the opening of the tower to burn it with fire,

and God repaid all the wickedness of the men of Shechem on their heads; and the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal came on them.

and all the evil of the men of Shechem hath God turned back on their head, and come unto them doth the cursing of Jotham son of Jerubbaal.

Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Didn’t you hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”

And Jephthah saith to the elders of Gilead, ‘Have not ye hated me? and ye cast me out from the house of my father, and wherefore have ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?’

Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “What do you have to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”

and he goeth through the wilderness, and compasseth the land of Edom and the land of Moab, and cometh in at the rising of the sun of the land of Moab, and they encamp beyond Arnon, and have not come into the border of Moab, for Arnon is the border of Moab.

He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.

and he smiteth them from Aroer, and unto thy going in to Minnith, twenty cities, and unto the meadow of the vineyards-a very great smiting; and the Bene-Ammon are humbled at the presence of the sons of Israel.

Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.

And Jephthah cometh into Mizpeh, unto his house, and lo, his daughter is coming out to meet him with timbrels, and with choruses, and save her alone, he hath none, son or daughter.

He had thirty sons. He sent his thirty daughters outside his clan, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside his clan for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.

and he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, “A man of God came to me, and his face was like the face of the angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he was from, neither did he tell me his name;

And the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, ‘A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance is as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he is, and his name he hath not declared to me;

Then Manoah entreated Yahweh, and said, “Oh, Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent come again to us, and teach us what we should do to the child who shall be born.”

And Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, ‘O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.’

God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field; but Manoah, her husband, wasn’t with her.

And God H430 hearkened H8085 (QalImpf) to the voice H6963 of Manoah; H4495 and the angel H4397 of God H430 came again H935 (QalImpf) unto the woman H802 as she sat H3427 (QalActPtc) in the field: H7704 but Manoah H4495 her husband H376 [was] not with her.

And God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she is sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

The woman hurried and ran, and told her husband, saying to him, “Behold, the man who came to me that day has appeared to me.”

and the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, ‘Lo, he hath appeared unto me-the man who came on that day unto me.’

Manoah arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” He said, “I am.”

And Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, ‘Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?’ and he saith, ‘I am.’

Manoah said, “Now let your words happen. What shall the child’s way of life and mission be?”

And Manoah H4495 said, H559 (QalImpf) Now let thy words H1697 come to pass. H935 (QalImpf) How shall we order H4941 the child, H5288 and [how] shall we do H4639 unto him?

And Manoah saith, ‘Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth-and his work?’

Manoah said to Yahweh’s angel, “What is your name, that when your words happen, we may honor you?”

And Manoah H4495 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the angel H4397 of the Lord, H3068 What [is] thy name, H8034 that when thy sayings H1697 come to pass H935 (QalImpf) we may do thee honour? H3513 (PielPerf)

And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, ‘What is thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.’

Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and his mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion roared at him.

And Samson goeth down-also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come unto the vineyards of Timnath, and lo, a lion’s whelp roareth at meeting him,

The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”

And the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goeth in:- ‘What is sweeter than honey? And what stronger than a lion?’ And he saith to them: ‘Unless ye had ploughed with my heifer, Ye had not found out my riddle.’

But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a young goat. He said, “I will go in to my wife’s room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.

But it came to pass within a while after, H3117 in the time H3117 of wheat H2406 harvest, H7105 that Samson H8123 visited H6485 (QalImpf) his wife H802 with a kid; H1423 H5795 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) I will go in H935 (QalImpf) to my wife H802 into the chamber. And it cometh to pass, after some days, in the days of wheat-harvest, that Samson looketh after his wife, with a kid of the goats, and saith, ‘I go in unto my wife, to the inner chamber;’ and her father hath not permitted him to go in,

When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burned with fire; and his bands dropped from off his hands.

He hath come unto Lehi-and the Philistines have shouted at meeting him-and the Spirit of Jehovah prospereth over him, and the thick bands which are on his arms are as flax which they burn with fire, and his bands are wasted from off his hands,

Samson went to Gaza, and saw there a prostitute, and went in to her.

Then went H3212 (QalImpf) Samson H8123 to Gaza, H5804 and saw H7200 (QalImpf) there an harlot, H802 H2181 (QalActPtc) and went in H935 (QalImpf) unto her.

And Samson goeth to Gaza, and seeth there a woman, a harlot, and goeth in unto her;

The Gazites were told, “Samson is here!” They surrounded him and laid wait for him all night in the gate of the city, and were quiet all the night, saying, “Wait until morning light; then we will kill him.”

[And it was told] the Gazites, H5841 saying, H559 (QalInf) Samson H8123 is come H935 (QalPerf) hither. it is told to the Gazathites, saying, ‘Samson hath come in hither;’ and they go round and lay wait for him all the night at the gate of the city, and keep themselves silent all the night, saying, ‘Till the light of the morning-then we have slain him.’

The man departed out of the city, out of Bethlehem Judah, to live where he could find a place, and he came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, as he traveled.

And the man goeth out of the city, out of Beth-Lehem-Judah, to sojourn where he doth find, and cometh to the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, to work his way.

Micah said to him, “Where did you come from?” He said to him, “I am a Levite of Bethlehem Judah, and I am looking for a place to live.”

And Micah saith to him, ‘Whence comest thou?’ and he saith unto him, ‘A Levite am I, of Beth-Lehem-Judah, and I am going to sojourn where I do find.’

The children of Dan sent five men of their family from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. They said to them, “Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.

And the sons of Dan send, out of their family, five men of them, men, sons of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to traverse the land, and to search it, and they say unto them, ‘Go, search the land;’ and they come into the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodge there.

When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; so they went over there and said to him, “Who brought you here? What do you do in this place? What do you have here?”

When they [were] by the house H1004 of Micah, H4318 they knew H5234 (HiphPerf) the voice H6963 of the young man H5288 the Levite: H3881 and they turned in H5493 (QalImpf) thither, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Who brought H935 (HiphPerf) thee hither? They are with the household of Micah, and they have discerned the voice of the young man, the Levite, and turn aside there, and say to him, ‘Who hath brought thee hither? and what art thou doing in this place? and what to thee here?’

Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in safety, in the way of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was no one in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with anyone else.

And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which is in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in any thing, possessing restraint, and they are far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with any man.

They came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brothers asked them, “What do you say?”

And they come in unto their brethren, at Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren say to them, ‘What-ye?’

They said, “Arise, and let’s go up against them; for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. Do you stand still? Don’t be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.

And they say, ‘Rise, and we go up against them, for we have seen the land, and lo, very good; and ye are keeping silent! be not slothful to go-to enter to possess the land.

When you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people, and the land is large; for God has given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”

When ye go, H935 (QalInf) ye shall come H935 (QalImpf) unto a people H5971 secure, H982 (QalActPtc) and to a large H7342 land: H776 for God H430 hath given H5414 (QalPerf) it into your hands; H3027 a place H4725 where [there is] no want H4270 of any thing H1697 that [is] in the earth. H776

When ye go, ye come in unto a people confident, and the land is large on both hands, for God hath given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything which is in the land.’

They passed from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.

And they pass over thence to the hill-country of Ephraim, and come in unto the house of Micah.

They went over there and came to the house of the young Levite man, even to the house of Micah, and asked him how he was doing.

And they turned H5493 (QalImpf) thitherward, and came H935 (QalImpf) to the house H1004 of the young man H5288 the Levite, H3881 [even] unto the house H1004 of Micah, H4318 and saluted H7592 (QalImpf) H7965 him.

And they turn aside thither, and come in unto the house of the young man the Levite, the house of Micah, and ask of him of welfare,-

The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men armed with weapons of war.

And the five H2568 men H582 that went H1980 (QalActPtc) to spy out H7270 (PielInf) the land H776 went up, H5927 (QalImpf) [and] came in H935 (QalPerf) thither, [and] took H3947 (QalPerf) the graven image, H6459 and the ephod, H646 and the teraphim, H8655 and the molten image: H4541 and the priest H3548 stood H5324 (NiphPtc) in the entering H6607 of the gate H8179 with the six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 [that were] appointed H2296 (QalPasPtc) with weapons H3627 of war. H4421

yea, the five men, those going to traverse the land, go up-they have come in thither-they have taken the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image-and the priest is standing at the opening of the gate, and the six hundred men who are girded with weapons of war-

When these went into Micah’s house, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”

And these went H935 (QalPerf) into Micah’s H4318 house, H1004 and fetched H3947 (QalImpf) the carved image, H6459 the ephod, H646 and the teraphim, H8655 and the molten image. H4541 Then said H559 (QalImpf) the priest H3548 unto them, What do H6213 (QalActPtc) ye?

yea, these have entered the house of Micah, and take the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest saith unto them, ‘What are ye doing?’

The priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, the teraphim, and the engraved image, and went with the people.

And the priest’s H3548 heart H3820 was glad, H3190 (QalImpf) and he took H3947 (QalImpf) the ephod, H646 and the teraphim, H8655 and the graven image, H6459 and went in H935 (QalImpf) the midst H7130 of the people. H5971

And the heart of the priest is glad, and he taketh the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and goeth into the midst of the people,

They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword; then they burned the city with fire.

And they took H3947 (QalPerf) [the things] which Micah H4318 had made, H6213 (QalPerf) and the priest H3548 which he had, and came H935 (QalImpf) unto Laish, H3919 unto a people H5971 [that were] at quiet H8252 (QalActPtc) and secure: H982 (QalActPtc) and they smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and burnt H8313 (QalPerf) the city H5892 with fire. H784

And they have taken that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and come in against Laish, against a people quiet and confident, and smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the city have burnt with fire,

Her husband arose and went after her to speak kindly to her, to bring her again, having his servant with him and a couple of donkeys. She brought him into her father’s house; and when the father of the young lady saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

And her husband H376 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) after H310 her, to speak H1696 (PielInf) friendly H3820 unto her, [and] to bring her again, H7725 (HiphInf) having his servant H5288 with him, and a couple H6776 of asses: H2543 and she brought H935 (HiphImpf) him into her father’s H1 house: H1004 and when the father H1 of the damsel H5291 saw H7200 (QalImpf) him, he rejoiced H8055 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) him.

And her husband riseth and goeth after her, to speak unto her heart, to bring her back, and his young man is with him, and a couple of asses; and she bringeth him into the house of her father, and the father of the young woman seeth him, and rejoiceth to meet him.

But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.

But the man H376 would H14 (QalPerf) not tarry that night, H3885 (QalInf) but he rose up H6965 (QalImpf) and departed, H3212 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) over against H5227 Jebus, H2982 which [is] Jerusalem; H3389 and [there were] with him two H6776 asses H2543 saddled, H2280 (QalPasPtc) his concubine H6370 also [was] with him.

And the man hath not been willing to lodge all night, and he riseth, and goeth, and cometh in till over-against Jebus (It is Jerusalem), and with him are a couple of asses saddled; and his concubine is with him.

So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.

And they passed on H5674 (QalImpf) and went their way; H3212 (QalImpf) and the sun H8121 went down H935 (QalImpf) upon them [when they were] by H681 Gibeah, H1390 which [belongeth] to Benjamin. H1144

And they pass over, and go on, and the sun goeth in upon them near Gibeah, which is to Benjamin;

They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.

And they turned aside H5493 (QalImpf) thither, to go in H935 (QalInf) [and] to lodge H3885 (QalInf) in Gibeah: H1390 and when he went in, H935 (QalImpf) he sat him down H3427 (QalImpf) in a street H7339 of the city: H5892 for [there was] no man H376 that took H622 (PielPtc) them into his house H1004 to lodging. H3885 (QalInf)

and they turn aside there to go in to lodge in Gibeah, and he goeth in and sitteth in a broad place of the city, and there is no man gathering them into the house to lodge.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

And, behold, there came H935 (QalPerf) an old H2205 man H376 from his work H4639 out of the field H7704 at even, H6153 which [was] also H376 of mount H2022 Ephraim; H669 and he sojourned H1481 (QalPerf) in Gibeah: H1390 but the men H582 of the place H4725 [were] Benjamites. H1145

And lo, a man, an aged one, hath come from his work from the field in the evening, and the man is of the hill-country of Ephraim, and he is a sojourner in Gibeah, and the men of the place are Benjamites.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

And when he had lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) his eyes, H5869 he saw H7200 (QalImpf) a wayfaring H732 (QalActPtc) man H376 in the street H7339 of the city: H5892 and the old H2205 man H376 said, H559 (QalImpf) Whither goest H3212 (QalImpf) thou? and whence H370 comest H935 (QalImpf) thou?

And he lifteth up his eyes, and seeth the man, the traveller, in a broad place of the city, and the aged man saith, ‘Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?’
