On the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.

All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, starting according to Yahweh’s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.

και απηρεν πασα συναγωγη υιων ισραηλ εκ της ερημου σιν κατα παρεμβολας αυτων δια ρηματος κυριου και παρενεβαλοσαν εν ραφιδιν ουκ ην δε υδωρ τω λαω πιειν

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

και ελοιδορειτο ο λαος προς μωυσην λεγοντες δος ημιν υδωρ ινα πιωμεν και ειπεν αυτοις μωυσης τι λοιδορεισθε μοι και τι πειραζετε κυριον

The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

εδιψησεν δε εκει ο λαος υδατι και εγογγυζεν εκει ο λαος προς μωυσην λεγοντες ινα τι τουτο ανεβιβασας ημας εξ αιγυπτου αποκτειναι ημας και τα τεκνα ημων και τα κτηνη τω διψει

Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

εβοησεν δε μωυσης προς κυριον λεγων τι ποιησω τω λαω τουτω ετι μικρον και καταλιθοβολησουσιν με

Yahweh said to Moses, “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην προπορευου του λαου τουτου λαβε δε μετα σεαυτου απο των πρεσβυτερων του λαου και την ραβδον εν η επαταξας τον ποταμον λαβε εν τη χειρι σου και πορευση

Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Jethro said, “Blessed be Yahweh, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

On the next day, Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood around Moses from the morning to the evening.

και ιδων ιοθορ παντα οσα εποιει τω λαω λεγει τι τουτο ο συ ποιεις τω λαω δια τι συ καθησαι μονος πας δε ο λαος παρεστηκεν σοι απο πρωιθεν εως δειλης

Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.

και λεγει μωυσης τω γαμβρω οτι παραγινεται προς με ο λαος εκζητησαι κρισιν παρα του θεου

You will surely wear away, both you, and this people that is with you; for the thing is too heavy for you. You are not able to perform it yourself alone.

φθορα καταφθαρηση ανυπομονητω και συ και πας ο λαος ουτος ος εστιν μετα σου βαρυ σοι το ρημα τουτο ου δυνηση ποιειν μονος

Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.

νυν ουν ακουσον μου και συμβουλευσω σοι και εσται ο θεος μετα σου γινου συ τω λαω τα προς τον θεον και ανοισεις τους λογους αυτων προς τον θεον

Moreover you shall provide out of all the people able men which fear God: men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

και συ σεαυτω σκεψαι απο παντος του λαου ανδρας δυνατους θεοσεβεις ανδρας δικαιους μισουντας υπερηφανιαν και καταστησεις αυτους επ αυτων χιλιαρχους και εκατονταρχους και πεντηκονταρχους και δεκαδαρχους

Let them judge the people at all times. It shall be that every great matter they shall bring to you, but every small matter they shall judge themselves. So shall it be easier for you, and they shall share the load with you.

and let them judge H8199 (QalPerf) the people H5971 at all seasons: H6256 and it shall be, that every great H1419 matter H1697 they shall bring H935 (HiphImpf) unto thee, but every small H6996 matter H1697 they shall judge: H8199 (QalImpf) so shall it be easier H7043 (HiphImpv) for thyself, and they shall bear H5375 (QalPerf) the burden with thee.

και κρινουσιν τον λαον πασαν ωραν το δε ρημα το υπερογκον ανοισουσιν επι σε τα δε βραχεα των κριματων κρινουσιν αυτοι και κουφιουσιν απο σου και συναντιλημψονται σοι

If you will do this thing, and God commands you so, then you will be able to endure, and all these people also will go to their place in peace.”

If thou shalt do H6213 (QalImpf) this thing, H1697 and God H430 command H6680 (PielPerf) thee so, then thou shalt be able H3201 (QalPerf) to endure, H5975 (QalInf) and all this people H5971 shall also go H935 (QalImpf) to their place H4725 in peace. H7965

εαν το ρημα τουτο ποιησης κατισχυσει σε ο θεος και δυνηση παραστηναι και πας ο λαος ουτος εις τον εαυτου τοπον μετ ειρηνης ηξει

Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

And Moses H4872 chose H977 (QalImpf) able H2428 men H582 out of all Israel, H3478 and made H5414 (QalImpf) them heads H7218 over the people, H5971 rulers H8269 of thousands, H505 rulers H8269 of hundreds, H3967 rulers H8269 of fifties, H2572 and rulers H8269 of tens. H6235

και επελεξεν μωυσης ανδρας δυνατους απο παντος ισραηλ και εποιησεν αυτους επ αυτων χιλιαρχους και εκατονταρχους και πεντηκονταρχους και δεκαδαρχους

They judged the people at all times. They brought the hard cases to Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

και εκρινοσαν τον λαον πασαν ωραν παν δε ρημα υπερογκον ανεφεροσαν επι μωυσην παν δε ρημα ελαφρον εκρινοσαν αυτοι

Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;

και νυν εαν ακοη ακουσητε της εμης φωνης και φυλαξητε την διαθηκην μου εσεσθε μοι λαος περιουσιος απο παντων των εθνων εμη γαρ εστιν πασα η γη

Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Yahweh commanded him.

And Moses H4872 came H935 (QalImpf) and called H7121 (QalImpf) for the elders H2205 of the people, H5971 and laid H7760 (QalImpf) before their faces H6440 all these words H1697 which the Lord H3068 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) him.

ηλθεν δε μωυσης και εκαλεσεν τους πρεσβυτερους του λαου και παρεθηκεν αυτοις παντας τους λογους τουτους ους συνεταξεν αυτω ο θεος

All the people answered together, and said, “All that Yahweh has spoken we will do.” Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.

απεκριθη δε πας ο λαος ομοθυμαδον και ειπαν παντα οσα ειπεν ο θεος ποιησομεν και ακουσομεθα ανηνεγκεν δε μωυσης τους λογους του λαου προς τον θεον

Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Lo, I come H935 (QalActPtc) unto thee in a thick H5645 cloud, H6051 that the people H5971 may hear H8085 (QalImpf) when I speak H1696 (PielInf) with thee, and believe H539 (HiphImpf) thee for ever. ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην ιδου εγω παραγινομαι προς σε εν στυλω νεφελης ινα ακουση ο λαος λαλουντος μου προς σε και σοι πιστευσωσιν εις τον αιωνα ανηγγειλεν δε μωυσης τα ρηματα του λαου προς κυριον

Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Go H3212 (QalImpv) unto the people, H5971 and sanctify H6942 (PielPerf) them to day H3117 and to morrow, H4279 and let them wash H3526 (PielPerf) their clothes, H8071

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην καταβας διαμαρτυραι τω λαω και αγνισον αυτους σημερον και αυριον και πλυνατωσαν τα ιματια

and be ready for the third day; for on the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.

and be ready H3559 (NiphPtc) against the third H7992 day: H3117 for the third H7992 day H3117 the Lord H3068 will come down H3381 (QalImpf) in the sight H5869 of all the people H5971 upon mount H2022 Sinai. H5514

και εστωσαν ετοιμοι εις την ημεραν την τριτην τη γαρ ημερα τη τριτη καταβησεται κυριος επι το ορος το σινα εναντιον παντος του λαου

You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.

και αφοριεις τον λαον κυκλω λεγων προσεχετε εαυτοις του αναβηναι εις το ορος και θιγειν τι αυτου πας ο αψαμενος του ορους θανατω τελευτησει

Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Don’t have sexual relations with a woman.”

και ειπεν τω λαω γινεσθε ετοιμοι τρεις ημερας μη προσελθητε γυναικι

On the third day, when it was morning, there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.

Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish.

Exodus 19:21 Heb. contest

και ειπεν ο θεος προς μωυσην λεγων καταβας διαμαρτυραι τω λαω μηποτε εγγισωσιν προς τον θεον κατανοησαι και πεσωσιν εξ αυτων πληθος

Moses said to Yahweh, “The people can’t come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.’”

Yahweh said to him, “Go down! You shall bring Aaron up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break out against them.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Away, H3212 (QalImpv) get thee down, H3381 (QalImpv) and thou shalt come up, H5927 (QalPerf) thou, and Aaron H175 with thee: but let not the priests H3548 and the people H5971 break through H2040 (QalImpf) to come up H5927 (QalInf) unto the Lord, H3068 lest he break forth H6555 (QalImpf) upon them.

So Moses went down to the people, and told them.

κατεβη δε μωυσης προς τον λαον και ειπεν αυτοις

All the people perceived the thunderings, the lightnings, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking. When the people saw it, they trembled, and stayed at a distance.

Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”

και λεγει αυτοις μωυσης θαρσειτε ενεκεν γαρ του πειρασαι υμας παρεγενηθη ο θεος προς υμας οπως αν γενηται ο φοβος αυτου εν υμιν ινα μη αμαρτανητε

The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was.

If she doesn’t please her master, who has married her to himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt deceitfully with her.

Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words.”

Whoever compounds any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, he shall be cut off from his people.’”
