There shall be no prostitute of the daughters of Israel, neither shall there be a sodomite of the sons of Israel.

‘There is not a whore among the daughters of Israel, nor is there a whoremonger among the sons of Israel;

You shall not oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the foreigners who are in your land within your gates.

then his brother’s wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his sandal from off his foot, and spit in his face. She shall answer and say, “So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother’s house.”

‘Then hath his brother’s wife drawn nigh unto him, before the eyes of the elders, and drawn his shoe from off his foot, and spat in his face, and answered and said, Thus it is done to the man who doth not build up the house of his brother;

that you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you shall bring in from your land that Yahweh your God gives you. You shall put it in a basket, and shall go to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to cause his name to dwell there.

that thou hast taken of the first of all the fruits of the ground which thou dost bring in out of thy land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee, and hast put it in a basket, and gone unto the place which Jehovah thy God doth choose to cause His name to tabernacle there.

You shall say before Yahweh your God, “I have put away the holy things out of my house, and also have given them to the Levite, to the foreigner, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all your commandment which you have commanded me. I have not transgressed any of your commandments, neither have I forgotten them.

I have not eaten of it in my mourning, neither have I removed any of it while I was unclean, nor given of it for the dead. I have listened to Yahweh my God’s voice. I have done according to all that you have commanded me.

I have not eaten in mine affliction of it, nor have I put away of it for uncleanness, nor have I given of it for the dead; I have hearkened to the voice of Jehovah my God; I have done according to all that Thou hast commanded me;

Yahweh will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.

The Lord H3068 shall send H7971 (PielImpf) upon thee cursing, H3994 vexation, H4103 and rebuke, H4045 in all that thou settest H4916 thine hand H3027 unto for to do, H6213 (QalImpf) until thou be destroyed, H8045 (NiphInf) and until thou perish H6 (QalInf) quickly; H4118 because H6440 of the wickedness H7455 of thy doings, H4611 whereby thou hast forsaken H5800 (QalPerf) me.

‘Jehovah doth send on thee the curse, the trouble, and the rebuke, in every putting forth of thy hand which thou dost, till thou art destroyed, and till thou perish hastily, because of the evil of thy doings by which thou hast forsaken Me.

so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left to him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.

against giving to one of them of the flesh of his sons whom he eateth, because he hath nothing left to him, in the siege, and in the straitness with which thine enemy doth straiten thee in all thy gates.

In the morning you will say, “I wish it were evening!” and at evening you will say, “I wish it were morning!” for the fear of your heart which you will fear, and for the sights which your eyes will see.

in the morning thou sayest, O that it were evening! and in the evening thou sayest, O that it were morning! from the fear of thy heart, with which thou art afraid, and from the sight of thine eyes which thou seest.

These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, in addition to the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

These are the words of the covenant which Jehovah hath commanded Moses to make with the sons of Israel in the land of Moab, apart from the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

The generation to come—your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a far land—will say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses with which Yahweh has made it sick,

‘And the latter generation of your sons who rise after you, and the stranger who cometh in from a land afar off, have said when they have seen the strokes of that land, and its sicknesses which Jehovah hath sent into it,-

Yahweh your God will bring you into the land which your fathers possessed, and you will possess it. He will do you good, and increase your numbers more than your fathers.

And the Lord H3068 thy God H430 will bring H935 (HiphPerf) thee into the land H776 which thy fathers H1 possessed, H3423 (QalPerf) and thou shalt possess H3423 (QalPerf) it; and he will do thee good, H3190 (HiphPerf) and multiply H7235 (HiphPerf) thee above thy fathers. H1

and Jehovah thy God hath brought thee in unto the land which thy fathers have possessed, and thou hast inherited it, and He hath done thee good, and multiplied thee above thy fathers.

For this commandment which I command you today is not too hard for you or too distant.

For this commandment H4687 which I command H6680 (PielPtc) thee this day, H3117 it [is] not hidden H6381 (NiphPtc) from thee, neither [is] it far off. H7350

‘For this command which I am commanding thee to-day, it is not too wonderful for thee, nor is it far off.

Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, “Who will go over the sea for us, bring it to us, and proclaim it to us, that we may do it?”

Neither [is] it beyond H5676 the sea, H3220 that thou shouldest say, H559 (QalInf) Who shall go H5674 (QalImpf) over H5676 the sea H3220 for us, and bring H3947 (QalImpf) it unto us, that we may hear H8085 (HiphImpf) it, and do H6213 (QalImpf) it?

And it is not beyond the sea,-saying, Who doth pass over for us beyond the sea, and doth take it for us, and doth cause us to hear it-that we may do it?

“Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of Yahweh your God’s covenant, that it may be there for a witness against you.

Take H3947 (QalInf) this book H5612 of the law, H8451 and put H7760 (QalPerf) it in the side H6654 of the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the Lord H3068 your God, H430 that it may be there for a witness H5707 against thee.

‘Take this Book of the Law, and thou hast set it on the side of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah your God, and it hath been there against thee for a witness;

Yahweh saw and abhorred, because of the provocation of his sons and his daughters.

And when the Lord H3068 saw H7200 (QalImpf) [it], he abhorred H5006 (QalImpf) [them], because of the provoking H3708 of his sons, H1121 and of his daughters. H1323

And Jehovah seeth and despiseth- For the provocation of His sons and His daughters.

Outside the sword will bereave, and in the rooms, terror on both young man and virgin, the nursing infant with the gray-haired man.

The sword H2719 without, H2351 and terror H367 within, H2315 shall destroy H7921 (PielImpf) both the young man H970 and the virgin, H1330 the suckling H3243 (QalActPtc) [also] with the man H376 of gray hairs. H7872

Without bereave doth the sword, And at the inner-chambers-fear, Both youth and virgin, Suckling with man of grey hair.

For you shall see the land from a distance; but you shall not go there into the land which I give the children of Israel.”

Yet thou shalt see H7200 (QalImpf) the land H776 before [thee]; but thou shalt not go H935 (QalImpf) thither unto the land H776 which I give H5414 (QalActPtc) the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

but over-against thou seest the land, and thither thou dost not go in, unto the land which I am giving to the sons of Israel.’

This is for Judah. He said, “Hear, Yahweh, the voice of Judah. Bring him in to his people. With his hands he contended for himself. You shall be a help against his adversaries.”

And this [is the blessing] of Judah: H3063 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) Hear, H8085 (QalImpv) Lord, H3068 the voice H6963 of Judah, H3063 and bring H935 (HiphImpf) him unto his people: H5971 let his hands H3027 be sufficient H7227 for him; and be thou an help H5828 [to him] from his enemies. H6862

And this is for Judah; and he saith:- Hear, O Jehovah, the voice of Judah, And unto his people do Thou bring him in; His hand hath striven for him, And an help from his adversaries art Thou.

Yahweh, bless his skills. Accept the work of his hands. Strike through the hips of those who rise up against him, of those who hate him, that they not rise again.”

Bless, H1288 (PielImpv) Lord, H3068 his substance, H2428 and accept H7521 (QalImpf) the work H6467 of his hands: H3027 smite H4272 (QalImpv) through the loins H4975 of them that rise H6965 (QalPtc) against him, and of them that hate H8130 (PielPtc) him, that they rise H6965 not H4480 again. Bless, O Jehovah, his strength, And the work of his hands Thou acceptest, Smite the loins of his withstanders, And of those hating him-that they rise not!

About Asher he said, “Asher is blessed with children. Let him be acceptable to his brothers. Let him dip his foot in oil.

And of Asher H836 he said, H559 (QalPerf) [Let] Asher H836 [be] blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) with children; H1121 let him be acceptable H7521 (QalPasPtc) to his brethren, H251 and let him dip H2881 (QalActPtc) his foot H7272 in oil. H8081

And of Asher he said:- Blessed with sons is Asher, Let him be accepted by his brethren, And dipping in oil his foot.

The eternal God is your dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, ‘Destroy!’

The eternal H6924 God H430 [is thy] refuge, H4585 and underneath [are] the everlasting H5769 arms: H2220 and he shall thrust out H1644 (PielImpf) the enemy H341 (QalActPtc) from before H6440 thee; and shall say, H559 (QalImpf) Destroy H8045 (HiphImpv) [them].

A habitation is the eternal God, And beneath are arms age-during. And He casteth out from thy presence the enemy, and saith, ‘Destroy!’

She said to the men, “I know that Yahweh has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

and she saith unto the men, ‘I have known that Jehovah hath given to you the land, and that your terror hath fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted at your presence.

For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt; and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and to Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

‘For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the waters of the Red Sea at your presence, in your going out of Egypt, and that which ye have done to the two kings of the Amorite who are beyond the Jordan; to Sihon and to Og whom ye devoted.

As soon as we had heard it, our hearts melted, and there wasn’t any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Yahweh your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

And as soon as we had heard H8085 (QalImpf) [these things], our hearts H3824 did melt, H4549 (NiphImpf) neither did there remain H6965 (QalPerf) any more courage H7307 in any man, H376 because H6440 of you: for the Lord H3068 your God, H430 he [is] God H430 in heaven H8064 above, H4605 and in earth H776 beneath.

And we hear, and melt doth our heart, and there hath not stood any more spirit in any man, from your presence, for Jehovah your God, He is God in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath.

They said to Joshua, “Truly Yahweh has delivered all the land into our hands. Moreover, all the inhabitants of the land melt away before us.”

Yet there shall be a space between you and it of about two thousand cubits° by measure—don’t come closer to it—that you may know the way by which you must go; for you have not passed this way before.”

Joshua 3:4 A cubit is the length from the tip of the middle finger to the elbow on a man’s arm, or about 18 inches or 46 centimeters, so 2,000 cubits is about 920 meters.

Yet there shall be a space H7350 between you and it, about two thousand H505 cubits H520 by measure: H4060 come not near H7126 (QalImpf) unto it, that ye may know H3045 (QalImpf) the way H1870 by which ye must go: H3212 (QalImpf) for ye have not passed H5674 (QalPerf) [this] way H1870 heretofore. only, a distance is between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure; ye do not come near unto it, so that ye know the way in which ye go, for ye have not passed over in the way heretofore.’

It shall be that when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan will be cut off. The waters that come down from above shall stand in one heap.”

And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles H3709 of the feet H7272 of the priests H3548 that bear H5375 (QalActPtc) the ark H727 of the Lord, H3068 the Lord H113 of all the earth, H776 shall rest H5117 (QalInf) in the waters H4325 of Jordan, H3383 [that] the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 shall be cut off H3772 (NiphImpf) [from] the waters H4325 that come down H3381 (QalActPtc) from above; H4605 and they shall stand H5975 (QalImpf) upon an H259 heap. and it hath been, at the resting of the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of Jehovah, Lord of all the earth, in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan are cut off-the waters which are coming down from above-and they stand-one heap.’

the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off. Then the people passed over near Jericho.

that the waters stand; those coming down from above have risen-one heap, very far above Adam the city, which is at the side of Zaretan; and those going down by the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea, have been completely cut off; and the people have passed through over-against Jericho;

then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant. When it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’ ”

Then ye shall answer H559 (QalPerf) them, That the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 were cut off H3772 (NiphPerf) before H6440 the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the Lord; H3068 when it passed over H5674 (QalInf) Jordan, H3383 the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 were cut off: H3772 (NiphPerf) and these stones H68 shall be for a memorial H2146 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 for H5704 ever. that ye have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; in its passing over into the Jordan were the waters of the Jordan cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel-to the age.’

For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until you had crossed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had crossed over,

For the Lord H3068 your God H430 dried up H3001 (HiphPerf) the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 from before H6440 you, until ye were passed over, H5674 (QalInf) as the Lord H3068 your God H430 did H6213 (QalPerf) to the Red H5488 sea, H3220 which he dried up H3001 (HiphPerf) from before H6440 us, until we were gone over: H5674 (QalInf)

because Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, till your passing over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence till our passing over;

When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.

And it came to pass, when all the kings H4428 of the Amorites, H567 which [were] on the side H5676 of Jordan H3383 westward, H3220 and all the kings H4428 of the Canaanites, H3669 which [were] by the sea, H3220 heard H8085 (QalInf) that the Lord H3068 had dried up H3001 (HiphPerf) the waters H4325 of Jordan H3383 from before H6440 the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 until we were passed over, H5674 (QalInf) that their heart H3824 melted, H4549 (NiphImpf) neither was there spirit H7307 in them any more, because H6440 of the children H1121 of Israel. And it cometh to pass when all the kings of the Amorite which are beyond the Jordan, towards the sea, and all the kings of the Canaanite which are by the sea, hear how that Jehovah hath dried up the waters of the Jordan at the presence of the sons of Israel till their passing over, that their heart is melted, and there hath not been in them any more spirit because of the presence of the sons of Israel.

They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.

And they did eat H398 (QalImpf) of the old corn H5669 of the land H776 on the morrow H4283 after the passover, H6453 unleavened cakes, H4682 and parched H7033 (QalPasPtc) [corn] in the selfsame H6106 day. H3117

and they eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow of the passover, unleavened things and roasted corn, in this self-same day;

The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

And the manna H4478 ceased H7673 (QalImpf) on the morrow H4283 after they had eaten H398 (QalInf) of the old corn H5669 of the land; H776 neither had the children H1121 of Israel H3478 manna H4478 any more; but they did eat H398 (QalImpf) of the fruit H8393 of the land H776 of Canaan H3667 that year. and the manna doth cease on the morrow in their eating of the old corn of the land, and there hath been no more manna to the sons of Israel, and they eat of the increase of the land of Canaan in that year.

Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in.

Now Jericho H3405 was straitly H5462 (QalActPtc) shut up H5462 (PualPtc) because H6440 of the children H1121 of Israel: H3478 none went out, H3318 (QalActPtc) and none came in. H935 (QalActPtc)

(And Jericho shutteth itself up, and is shut up, because of the presence of the sons of Israel-none going out, and none coming in;)

But as for you, only keep yourselves from what is devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so you would make the camp of Israel accursed and trouble it.

And ye, in any wise H7535 keep H8104 (QalImpv) [yourselves] from the accursed thing, H2764 lest ye make [yourselves] accursed, H2763 (HiphImpf) when ye take H3947 (QalPerf) of the accursed thing, H2764 and make H7760 (QalPerf) the camp H4264 of Israel H3478 a curse, H2764 and trouble H5916 (QalPerf) it.

and surely ye have kept from the devoted thing, lest ye devote yourselves, and have taken from the devoted thing, and have made the camp of Israel become a devoted thing, and have troubled it;

They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

and they devote all that is in the city, from man even unto woman, from young even unto aged, even unto ox, and sheep, and ass, by the mouth of the sword.

The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all of her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel.

And the young men H5288 that were spies H7270 (PielPtc) went in, H935 (QalImpf) and brought out H3318 (HiphImpf) Rahab, H7343 and her father, H1 and her mother, H517 and her brethren, H251 and all that she had; and they brought out H3318 (HiphPerf) all her kindred, H4940 and left H3240 (HiphImpf) them without H2351 the camp H4264 of Israel. H3478

And the young man, the spies, go in and bring out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all whom she hath; yea, all her families they have brought out, and place them at the outside of the camp of Israel.

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.

But the children H1121 of Israel H3478 committed H4603 (QalImpf) a trespass H4604 in the accursed thing: H2764 for Achan, H5912 the son H1121 of Carmi, H3756 the son H1121 of Zabdi, H2067 the son H1121 of Zerah, H2226 of the tribe H4294 of Judah, H3063 took H3947 (QalImpf) of the accursed thing: H2764 and the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 was kindled H2734 (QalImpf) against the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

And the sons of Israel commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and Achan, son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, taketh of the devoted thing, and the anger of Jehovah burneth against the sons of Israel.

Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.

Israel H3478 hath sinned, H2398 (QalPerf) and they have also transgressed H5674 (QalPerf) my covenant H1285 which I commanded H6680 (PielPerf) them: for they have even taken H3947 (QalPerf) of the accursed thing, H2764 and have also stolen, H1589 (QalPerf) and dissembled H3584 (PielPerf) also, and they have put H7760 (QalPerf) [it] even among their own stuff. H3627

Israel hath sinned, and also they have transgressed My covenant which I commanded them, and also taken of the devoted thing, and also stolen, and also deceived, and also put it among their vessels,

You shall do to Ai and her king as you did to Jericho and her king, except you shall take its goods and its livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush for the city behind it.”

And thou shalt do H6213 (QalPerf) to Ai H5857 and her king H4428 as thou didst H6213 (QalPerf) unto Jericho H3405 and her king: H4428 only the spoil H7998 thereof, and the cattle H929 thereof, shall ye take for a prey H962 (QalImpf) unto yourselves: lay H7760 (QalImpv) thee an ambush H693 (QalActPtc) for the city H5892 behind H310 it.

and thou hast done to Ai and to her king as thou hast done to Jericho and to her king; only, its spoil and its cattle ye spoil for yourselves; set for thee an ambush for the city at its rear.’

When the king of Ai saw it, they hurried and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he didn’t know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

And it came to pass, when the king H4428 of Ai H5857 saw H7200 (QalInf) [it], that they hasted H4116 (PielImpf) and rose up early, H7925 (HiphImpf) and the men H582 of the city H5892 went out H3318 (QalImpf) against H7125 (QalInf) Israel H3478 to battle, H4421 he and all his people, H5971 at a time appointed, H4150 before H6440 the plain; H6160 but he wist H3045 (QalPerf) not that [there were] liers in ambush H693 (QalActPtc) against him behind H310 the city. H5892

And it cometh to pass, when the king of Ai seeth it, that hasten, and rise early, and go out do the men of the city to meet Israel for battle, he and all his people, at the appointed season, at the front of the plain, and he hath not known that an ambush is against him, on the rear of the city.

All that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the people of Ai.

And [so] it was, [that] all that fell H5307 (QalActPtc) that day, H3117 both of men H376 and women, H802 [were] twelve H8147 H6240 thousand, H505 [even] all the men H582 of Ai. H5857

and all who fall during the day, of men and of women, are twelve thousand-all men of Ai.

All Israel, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of Yahweh had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.

And all Israel, H3478 and their elders, H2205 and officers, H7860 (QalActPtc) and their judges, H8199 (QalActPtc) stood H5975 (QalActPtc) on this side the ark H727 and on that side before the priests H3548 the Levites, H3881 which bare H5375 (QalActPtc) the ark H727 of the covenant H1285 of the Lord, H3068 as well the stranger, H1616 as he that was born H249 among them; half H2677 of them over H413 against H4136 mount H2022 Gerizim, H1630 and half H2677 of them over against H4136 mount H2022 Ebal; H5858 as Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the Lord H3068 had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) before, H7223 that they should bless H1288 (PielInf) the people H5971 of Israel. And all Israel, and its elders, and authorities, and its judges, are standing on this side and on that of the ark, over-against the priests, the Levites, bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, as well the sojourner as the native, half of them over-against mount Gerizim, and the half of them over-against mount Ebal, as Moses servant of Jehovah commanded to bless the people of Israel at the first.

These wine skins, which we filled, were new; and behold, they are torn. These our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey.”

And these bottles H4997 of wine, H3196 which we filled, H4390 (PielPerf) [were] new; H2319 and, behold, they be rent: H1234 (HithPerf) and these our garments H8008 and our shoes H5275 are become old H1086 (QalPerf) by reason of the very H3966 long H7230 journey. H1870

and these are the wine-bottles which we filled, new, and lo, they have rent; and these, our garments and our sandals, have become old, from the exceeding greatness of the way.’

The men sampled their provisions, and didn’t ask counsel from Yahweh’s mouth.

And the men H582 took H3947 (QalImpf) of their victuals, H6718 and asked H7592 (QalPerf) not [counsel] at the mouth H6310 of the Lord. H3068

And the men take of their provision, and the mouth of Jehovah have not asked;

They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were certainly told how Yahweh your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

And they answer Joshua and say, ‘Because it was certainly declared to thy servants, that Jehovah thy God commanded Moses His servant to give to you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing;

they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

That they feared H3372 (QalImpf) greatly, H3966 because Gibeon H1391 [was] a great H1419 city, H5892 as one H259 of the royal H4467 cities, H5892 and because it [was] greater H1419 than Ai, H5857 and all the men H582 thereof [were] mighty. H1368

that they are greatly afraid, because Gibeon is a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it is greater than Ai, and all its men-heroes.

The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

And the men H582 of Gibeon H1391 sent H7971 (QalImpf) unto Joshua H3091 to the camp H4264 to Gilgal, H1537 saying, H559 (QalInf) Slack H7503 (HiphImpf) not thy hand H3027 from thy servants; H5650 come up H5927 (QalImpv) to us quickly, H4120 and save H3467 (HiphImpv) us, and help H5826 (QalImpv) us: for all the kings H4428 of the Amorites H567 that dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) in the mountains H2022 are gathered together H6908 (NiphPerf) against us.

And the men of Gibeon send unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, saying, ‘Let not thy hand cease from thy servants; come up unto us with haste, and give safety to us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorite, dwelling in the hill-country, have been assembled against us.’

As they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, Yahweh hurled down great stones from the sky on them to Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the children of Israel killed with the sword.

And it came to pass, as they fled H5127 (QalInf) from before H6440 Israel, H3478 [and] were in the going down H4174 to Bethhoron, H1032 that the Lord H3068 cast down H7993 (HiphPerf) great H1419 stones H68 from heaven H8064 upon them unto Azekah, H5825 and they died: H4191 (QalImpf) [they were] more H7227 which died H4191 (QalPerf) with hailstones H1259 H68 than [they] whom H834 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 slew H2026 (QalPerf) with the sword. H2719

And it cometh to pass, in their fleeing from the face of Israel-they are in the descent of Beth-Horon-and Jehovah hath cast upon them great stones out of the heavens, unto Azekah, and they die; more are they who have died by the hailstones than they whom the sons of Israel have slain by the sword.
