He took up his parable, and said, “Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor.

He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, but his latter end shall come to destruction.”

He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

και ιδων τον ωγ και αναλαβων την παραβολην αυτου ειπεν ω ω τις ζησεται οταν θη ταυτα ο θεος

You will become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where Yahweh will lead you away.

And thou shalt become an astonishment, H8047 a proverb, H4912 and a byword, H8148 among all nations H5971 whither the Lord H3068 shall lead H5090 (PielImpf) thee.

και εση εκει εν αινιγματι και παραβολη και διηγηματι εν πασιν τοις εθνεσιν εις ους αν απαγαγη σε κυριος εκει

One from the same place answered, “Who is their father?” Therefore it became a proverb, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand will not be on you.

then I will pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, “How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”

και λημψη τον θρηνον τουτον επι τον βασιλεα βαβυλωνος και ερεις εν τη ημερα εκεινη πως αναπεπαυται ο απαιτων και αναπεπαυται ο επισπουδαστης

I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil, to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I will drive them.

“Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, ‘The days are prolonged, and every vision fails’?

υιε ανθρωπου τι υμιν η παραβολη αυτη εν τοις υιοις ισραηλ λεγοντες οι πατερες εφαγον ομφακα και οι οδοντες των τεκνων εγομφιασαν

“As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “you shall not use this proverb any more in Israel.

[As] I live, H2416 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H136 God, H3069 ye shall not have [occasion] any more to use H4911 (QalInf) this proverb H4912 in Israel. H3478

Then I said, “Ah Lord Yahweh! They say of me, ‘Isn’t he a speaker of parables?’ ”

Utter a parable to the rebellious house, and tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says, “Put the cauldron on the fire. Put it on, and also pour water into it.

Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, “Spare your people, Yahweh, and don’t give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’ ”

ανα μεσον της κρηπιδος του θυσιαστηριου κλαυσονται οι ιερεις οι λειτουργουντες κυριω και ερουσιν φεισαι κυριε του λαου σου και μη δως την κληρονομιαν σου εις ονειδος του καταρξαι αυτων εθνη οπως μη ειπωσιν εν τοις εθνεσιν που εστιν ο θεος αυτων

In that day they will take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, saying, ‘We are utterly ruined! My people’s possession is divided up. Indeed he takes it from me and assigns our fields to traitors!’ ”

εν τη ημερα εκεινη λημφθησεται εφ υμας παραβολη και θρηνηθησεται θρηνος εν μελει λεγων ταλαιπωρια εταλαιπωρησαμεν μερις λαου μου κατεμετρηθη εν σχοινιω και ουκ ην ο κωλυσων αυτον του αποστρεψαι οι αγροι ημων διεμερισθησαν

Won’t all these take up a parable against him, and a taunting proverb against him, and say, ‘Woe to him who increases that which is not his, and who enriches himself by extortion! How long?’
