[1] I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called, [2] with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, [3] being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling, [5] one Lord, one faith, one baptism, [6] one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all. [7] But to each one of us, the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. [8] Therefore he says,
“When he ascended on high,
he led captivity captive,
and gave gifts to people.”† [9] Now this, “He ascended”, what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? [10] He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. [11] He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds§ and teachers; [12] for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ, [13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, [14] that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; [15] but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ, [16] from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love. [17] This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, [18] being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts. [19] They, having become callous, gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. [20] But you didn’t learn Christ that way, [21] if indeed you heard him and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus: [22] that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit, [23] and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [24] and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth. [25] Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. [26] “Be angry, and don’t sin.”† Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, [27] and don’t give place§ to the devil. [28] Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need. [29] Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. [30] Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. [31] Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. [32] And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

[1] IG1473 therefore,G3767 the prisonerG1198 ofG1722 the Lord,G2962 beseechG3870(PresActInd) youG5209 that ye walkG4043(AorActInf) worthyG516 of the vocationG2821 wherewithG3739 ye are called,G2564(AorPasInd) [2] WithG3326 allG3956 lowlinessG5012 andG2532 meekness,G4236 withG3326 longsuffering,G3115 forbearingG430(PresMidPasDepPtc) one anotherG240 inG1722 love;G26 [3] EndeavouringG4704(PresActPtc) to keepG5083(PresActInf) the unityG1775 of the SpiritG4151 inG1722 the bondG4886 of peace.G1515 [4] [There is] oneG1520 body,G4983 andG2532 oneG1520 Spirit,G4151 even asG2531 ye are calledG2564(AorPasInd) inG1722 oneG3391 hopeG1680 of yourG5216 calling;G2821 [5] OneG1520 Lord,G2962 oneG1520 faith,G4102 oneG3391 baptism,G908 [6] OneG1520 GodG2316 andG2532 FatherG3962 of all,G3956 whoG3588 [is] aboveG1909 all,G3956 andG2532 throughG1223 all,G3956 andG2532 inG1722 youG5213 all.G3956 [7] ButG1161 unto everyG1538 oneG1520 of usG2257 is givenG1325(AorPasInd) graceG5485 according toG2596 the measureG3358 of the giftG1431 of Christ.G5547 [8] WhereforeG1352 he saith,G3004(PresActInd) When he ascendedG305(Aor2ActPtc) upG1519 on high,G5311 he led captivityG162(AorActInd) captive,G161 andG2532 gaveG1325(AorActInd) giftsG1390 unto men.G444 [9] (NowG1161 that he ascended,G305(Aor2ActInd) whatG5101 is itG2076(PresInd) butG1508 thatG3754 heG2597 alsoG2532 descendedG2597(Aor2ActInd) firstG4412 intoG1519 the lowerG2737 partsG3313 of the earth?G1093 [10] HeG846 that descendedG2597(Aor2ActPtc) isG2076(PresInd) the same alsoG2532 that ascended upG305(Aor2ActPtc) far aboveG5231 allG3956 heavens,G3772 thatG2443 he might fillG4137(AorActSubj) all things.G3956) [11] AndG2532 heG846 gaveG1325(AorActInd) some,G3303 apostles;G652 andG1161 some, prophets;G4396 andG1161 some, evangelists;G2099 andG1161 some, pastorsG4166 andG2532 teachers;G1320 [12] ForG4314 the perfectingG2677 of the saints,G40 forG1519 the workG2041 of the ministry,G1248 forG1519 the edifyingG3619 of the bodyG4983 of Christ:G5547 [13] TillG3360 we allG3956 comeG2658(AorActSubj) inG1519 the unityG1775 of the faith,G4102 andG2532 of the knowledgeG1922 of the SonG5207 of God,G2316 untoG1519 a perfectG5046 man,G435 untoG1519 the measureG3358 of the statureG2244 of the fulnessG4138 of Christ:G5547 [14] ThatG2443 we [henceforth] beG5600(PresSubj) no moreG3371 children,G3516 tossed to and fro,G2831(PresMidPasDepPtc) andG2532 carried about withG4064(PresPasPtc) everyG3956 windG417 of doctrine,G1319 byG1722 the sleightG2940 of men,G444 [and] cunning craftiness,G1722 wherebyG4314 they lie in waitG3180 to deceive;G4106 [15] ButG1161 speaking the truthG226(PresActPtc) inG1722 love,G26 may grow upG837(AorActSubj) intoG1519 himG846 in all things,G3956 whichG3739 isG2076(PresInd) the head,G2776 [even] Christ:G5547 [16] FromG1537 whomG3739 the wholeG3956 bodyG4983 fitly joined togetherG4883(PresPasPtc) andG2532 compactedG4822(PresPasPtc) byG1223 that which everyG3956 jointG860 supplieth,G2024 accordingG2596 to the effectual workingG1753 inG1722 the measureG3358 of everyG1538 part,G1520 makethG4160(PresMidInd) increaseG838 of the bodyG4983 untoG1519 the edifyingG3619 of itselfG1438 inG1722 love.G26 [17] ThisG5124 I sayG3004(PresActInd) therefore,G3767 andG2532 testifyG3143(PresMidPasDepInd) inG1722 the Lord,G2962 that yeG5209 henceforthG3371 walkG4043(PresActInf) notG3371 asG2531 otherG3062 GentilesG1484 walk,G4043(PresActInd) inG1722 the vanityG3153 of theirG846 mind,G3563 [18] Having the understandingG1271 darkened,G4654(PerfPasPtc) beingG5607(PresPtc) alienatedG526(PerfPasPtc) from the lifeG2222 of GodG2316 throughG1223 the ignoranceG52 that isG5607(PresPtc) inG1722 them,G846 becauseG1223 of the blindnessG4457 of theirG846 heart:G2588 [19] WhoG3748 being past feelingG524(PerfActPtc) have givenG3860 themselvesG1438 overG3860(AorActInd) unto lasciviousness,G766 toG1519 workG2039 allG3956 uncleannessG167 withG1722 greediness.G4124 [20] ButG1161 yeG5210 haveG3129 notG3756 soG3779 learnedG3129(Aor2ActInd) Christ;G5547 [21] If so be thatG1489 ye have heardG191(AorActInd) him,G846 andG2532 have been taughtG1321(AorPasInd) byG1722 him,G846 asG2531 the truthG225 isG2076(PresInd) inG1722 Jesus:G2424 [22] That yeG5209 put offG659(Aor2MidInf) concerningG2596 the formerG4387 conversationG391 the oldG3820 man,G444 whichG3588 is corruptG5351(PresPasPtc) accordingG2596 to the deceitfulG539 lusts;G1939 [23] AndG1161 be renewedG365(PresPasInf) in the spiritG4151 of yourG5216 mind;G3563 [24] AndG2532 that ye put onG1746(AorMidInf) the newG2537 man,G444 whichG3588 afterG2596 GodG2316 is createdG2936(AorPasPtc) inG1722 righteousnessG1343 andG2532 trueG225 holiness.G3742 [25] WhereforeG1352 putting awayG659(Aor2MidPtc) lying,G5579 speakG2980(PresActImpr) every manG1538 truthG225 withG3326 hisG846 neighbour:G4139 forG3754 we areG2070(PresInd) membersG3196 one of another.G240 [26] Be ye angry,G3710(PresPasImpr) andG2532 sinG264(PresActImpr) not:G3361 letG1931 notG3361 the sunG2246 go downG1931(PresActImpr) uponG1909 yourG5216 wrath:G3950 [27] NeitherG3383 giveG1325(PresActImpr) placeG5117 to the devil.G1228 [28] LetG2813 him that stoleG2813(PresActPtc) stealG2813(PresActImpr) no more:G3371 butG1161 ratherG3123 let him labour,G2872(PresActImpr) workingG2038(PresMidPasDepPtc) with [his] handsG5495 the thing which is good,G18 thatG2443 he may haveG2192(PresActSubj) to giveG3330(PresActInf) to him that needeth.G5532 [29] LetG4550 noG3361 corruptG4550 communicationG3056 proceedG1607(PresMidPasDepImpr) out ofG1537 yourG5216 mouth,G4750 butG235 that whichG1536 is goodG18 toG4314 the useG5532 of edifying,G3619 thatG2443 it may ministerG1325(Aor2ActSubj) graceG5485 unto the hearers.G191(PresActPtc) [30] AndG2532 grieveG3076(PresActImpr) notG3361 the holyG40 SpiritG4151 of God,G2316 wherebyG1722 ye are sealedG4972(AorPasInd) untoG1519 the dayG2250 of redemption.G629 [31] LetG142 allG3956 bitterness,G4088 andG2532 wrath,G2372 andG2532 anger,G3709 andG2532 clamour,G2906 andG2532 evil speaking,G988 be put awayG142(AorPasImpr) fromG575 you,G5216 withG4862 allG3956 malice:G2549 [32] AndG1161 beG1096(PresMidPasDepImpr) ye kindG5543 one to another,G1519 tenderhearted,G2155 forgivingG5483(PresMidPasDepPtc) one another,G1438 even asG2531 GodG2316 forG1722 Christ’sG5547 sakeG1722 hath forgivenG5483(AorMidDepInd) you.G5213
